Hey!
I know this is something people tend to have opinions about for a lot of good reasons, so it might encourage some talky-time in the guild! :3
Talk about which bird species you currently have or want to someday have, and why!

Well, to start off, when I was younger and just WANTED birds I was obsessed with getting a lovebird! Obviously the problem being that I wanted ONE. I greatly prefer a bird that I can handle and spend time with as opposed to just a 'Look at the pretty bird!' type of pet!
Since I tend to be a busy gal who moves around a lot, I realize now I wouldn't be able to give a lovebird enough companionship to keep it happy on its own. They're adorable though, and I do hope someday when I'm well off enough to have an aviary that I could get a pair!
I have since wanted to get a Cockatiel, though they were a bit beyond my price range back when I got my first bird (he's a budgie, or parakeet to Amercians). Still I'm holding out hope to get one, they seem very sweet and fun to listen to!
My current birdy is Tatl, my budgie. He's a happy little yellow mutation with a love of bells and a playful, active personality! He loves to come sit on my shoulders while I'm at my laptop and nibble on my earphones or chirp *directly into my ear* XD. But he isn't much of a fan of petting or handling, he likes to come to me. He also adores nibbling on keyboards and chasing my mouse cursor around!

I have always fancied a female Ecelctus. I had seriously considered getting one as a friend for my green cheeked amazon since they are both relatively quiet and of similar size.

Also, a little singing canary. I adore the songs they sing so I'd have the little guy around just to add the music to my house.

Unfortunately since they are comparatively cheap to purchase, many people simply don't feel the need to put in the effort required to hand tame them or even to socialize them.
As for nibblers, my Amazon chewed off several buttons on one of my PSII controllers. My cockatiel is the destroyer of worlds. He somehow got himself into my pantry while I was at work one day and destroyed every single box, package, can label and roll of plastic wrap he could get his beak on. There was easily over $100 worth of food stuffs he ruined. I'm still finding cardboard crumbles in my pasta.

Tatl's not quite so destructive luckily, he isn't strong enough to do much damage either. Phew. I'll have to think about THAT if I ever decide to get a Cockatiel for sure too!

I currently do not own any birds. sad My family used to have a couple parakeets when I was younger, though they probably weren't properly taken care of as my parents aren't into doing research on the proper care of animals. gonk I was really young when we had them and I only remember that we had them, and that's mainly from my parents talking about them. They didn't seem to like them much.
At some point, I would love an African Grey parrot! biggrin

I have 7 budgies, 4 finches, and 1 cockatiel.
One day I might get around to getting a sun conure, maybe after kids and everything when I have time to dedicate to a bird like that.

There are Three Cockatiels in my Family.
The first was adopted out of Charity- his last owner felt they weren't paying enough attention to him. His name is Pirate (his right eye swells up once a year and is infected) he is five, an he's a yellow pearl runt. He used to be classified as a plain grey..but this year when he shed into his summer coat all the feathers grew back in yellow xD He sings, he lands on heads, is a whiskas bird (will sing when I so much as touch his food bag) and will swivel his head like a rave-dancing owl. > _ >
My other two birdies are Plain Grey, and rather large for cockatiels. They are skittish because they spent their entire lives as studs and never received human contact. They are Father and son - their names are Rosie and Murdoc. Murdoc doesn't sing at all, and Daddy (rosie) only ever sings when he gets into the cereal cupboard, where he eats the cereal box, and not the cereal xD

I've never seen such a destructive little bird before in my life. He picks the stucco stuff off the ceiling, he's destroyed a third of my Christmas cactus on a couple of occasions and chewed all the bamboo that has ever entered this house.

I wanted a cockatoo when I was younger but the price of the ones who can talk were just too expensive. But I've got 2 of them now, one of them talks a lot while the other one can only say one sentence. Both are tame. heart

Of late, I've been thinking about getting into falconry, so a red-tailed hawk would be amazing.
I've also thought of owls, but they are not well suited for hunting, and I doubt I can have one in my area.

But damn, I'd be in heaven with a raptor on my wrist.

Between that and golf, I should have an amusing retirement. I know how you feel. I'd love to have a golden eagle. I watched videos of people hunting coyotes from horseback with them. I was jealous.

I came across an old chivalry book and in it was a list of who could own what type of falcon according to class and profession. It was really quite interesting.
I'll type it up after work today.
