"Where..." Athanase mumbled, pushing the bedroom door open. The apartment was just as empty as the bedroom that he had just searched. He was sure that he hadn't fallen asleep at any point last night. An eye was kept on his human at all times, watching for any further activity from the third.
How had he missed Aurore leaving...?
The imp didn't particularly care for his foolish human, but he wasn't exactly sure of what to do without her. Aurore had been so careful about taking him with her if she went somewhere, and now he was alone in their apartment.
Waddling past the now wide-open door, Atha quickly made a sharp right turn, followed by another, as he headed for his first destination of the day; the kitchen. He could feel his stomach churn uncomfortably, impatience taking over. Hopefully the woman had already restocked their supplies of his food of choice.
Of course, she hadn't. A few leftover lemons lingered at the bottom of the basket, eaten in mere moments. No other lemons were there, not even a bottle of juice. Atha recalled drinking the last of it last night while that demon and his blabbering contractor were there. Whenever Aurore had left, Athanase could only hope that she would return soon; his stomach ached in agreement. He slumped into the produce basket in defeat, basking in the cool air.
There was no telling how long he had been in there before becoming excruciatingly bored. The sweet smells of the human's other foods almost made him sick as he forced himself away and into the warm den.
Athanase could smell the visitors from the night before as their scents lingered peacefully in the circulating air. There was a browning stain on the floor, just a few feet from their front door. He could smell the fading, coppery smell from where he stood next to the couch. He remembered Aurore collapsing at that very spot, fighting Chiet with any strength she could gather with that fragile little body of hers. "Heh... fool," he hummed as he hopped onto the couch, running from one side to the other and plopping himself down.
Directly ahead of his new position was a large, mounted Plasma TV. Athanase had seen Aurore work it once, but only for a minute before having it turn black once again. The remote sat idly on the class coffee table before him, pointed directly at the television. Just waiting for him.
Athanase wasn't exactly sure on how to use this human device, but surely it wasn't too hard if his genius of a contractor could work it, right?
With some self motivation, he reached across the gap between the couch and his desired item. There was a couple of slips, almost falling from the couch as Atha stretched, but it wasn't too long before he had the control seated comfortably beside him. Of course, just as designers intended, the power button was the first to catch the imp's attention, seeing as how it was the only button to be a different color.
The screen on the other side of the room made a strange noise, along with a consistently high pitched frequency that had already begun to annoy him. How did humans tolerate that? The black started to fad into some moving images, but Atha wasn't sure of what was going on. Just a bunch of humans chasing a black and white ball back and forth while another, seemingly invisible human drolled on uselessly. So far, it seemed that the entertainment value of this box was zero. How boring.
Fumbling with it awkwardly between his two flippers, Athanase managed to change the channel; this time on some human blabbing about some accident on some road. Another channel, a bunch of fast moving machines going in the same direction around an oval-shaped track. Changed again... food channel... was this really what humans found entertaining? Now, weird, moving drawings. The colors were definitely eye catching, distracting him for a minute before he became disinterested again. A few more channels surfed, quick flashing of images on the screen.
Pausing on another boring talk channel, Athanase pushed the triangular button facing the opposite direction of the one he had been pushing, stopping on the channel that had caught his attention. There was a naked pair of humans writhing and wiggling together, both making interesting noises similar to the ones Aurore made while fighting with Chiet, but strangely more enjoyable to hear.
Athanase watched, the smile on his face remaining for the duration of however long this lasted. It looked fun and it seemed like the humans liked it. Either that or they were in some strange form of pain. Both sounded pretty awesome.
The imp found himself extremely disappointed once it was over, impatiently flipping channels to find it again. Why was it over? These other programs weren't over! And they weren't nearly as entertaining! What was he going to do to pass the time, now?
There were a few more minutes of fruitless channel changing before defeat and boredom settled in once more. Leaving the television on, Atha hopped off of the couch. There was absolutely nothing to do while he was alone in this place! What could be worse than boredom of this magnitude?
Oh... right.
A growl gurgled from Athanase's stomach; the acids shifting around unpleasantly again now that he was no longer distracted. That woman had better be bringing home some food, he wasn't sure he could handle much more of this.
Anger was beginning to eat up the frustration, the lack of food not mixing well with the lack of entertainment. Acids began to spill from the strange holes in his stomach and back, sizzling against the floor as it attempted to eat through. Where was that damn, useless woman? She shouldn't have let him alone without food! How irresponsible! Were all humans this stupid? That watery demon's human wasn't too bright, but he was a genius compared to Aurore!
Why did the stupid one have to be the interesting one?
Athanase charged into the bedroom, heading straight for his "master's" bed, leaping up on top of it. The nightgown laying on top was thrown onto the floor while the bedding itself smoking in ruin from Atha's acidic discharges. His own bed was next, the sheets strewn and ruined. He only stopped for a moment while in the restroom as a lemony smell wafted through from the cabinets under the sink. Infuriated by the smells of the cleaners; the delicious scent of lemon mixed with the horrid chemicals.
One of the mirrors shattered as Athanase tossed the full bottle of cleaner at the reflective wall. Most of the apartment was turned over, traces of his destruction trailing behind him.
A jingle at the door made him stop his rampage. Was it Aurore? Did that idiot finally come home?
Outside, an unknown voice addressed his human, concerns of what he had heard inside. It must have been a neighbor next door, or possibly the human that owned the place. Not that it mattered, really. The man mentioned something about pets and possibly buying a carrier because of the sounds of glass breaking and the dangers to any animals inside. There was only a brief pause in the one-side conversation, presumably Aurore having to write her response.
The man said something else before leaving Aurore to her own devices. The jingling of keys resumed their beautiful song to Atha's ears... The click of the lock and the door slowly opening, Aurore peeked her head in from the outer hall of the building. Disappointment and shock washed over her face as she stared at the path of her second demon's destruction. His stains burned permanently into the hard-wood floor.
Athanase's first response was to leap at the bags his human carried, searching for his long-awaited meal.
