She had been tricked no other way to look at it. Her mommy had said that they were going to get her new toys at the mall but when they past the toy shop and went into the clothes store she knew that things had gone dreadfully wrong. Digging her heels in she was practically dragged into the store.
"Nooo mommy no clothes!" Whinning never got her anywhere but maybe this time? "You need more clothes and it doesn't make any sense for me to make it when you are going to grow out of it so soon. You will wear them, you can't go around naked honey. Besides remember how hard it was to get that grease out of your fur. This way that won't happen, right?" Ara said pulling the little girl into the store. Honestly the way the girl refused to wear clothes was getting a bit ridiculous she was nearly five. "I promise after we're done we'll go tot he toy store like I said. Ohh look at this one it has ruffles!"
Sonja wasn't having it she pouted, tried to run away, even tried bargaining saying that she would eat all her veggies for a week if her mommy wouldn't make her wear clothes. All she got was a stern talking to and then forced to try on a stupid blue shirt that had a pony on it, blech. Now she was bored as her mother browsed through the racks. Looking around she tried to find anything to do.

There was no trickery involved in getting Luka to the clothing store...the kitten was pretty good about following his caretaker around pretty well. To the small boy-cat, Stephen was the most familiar thing since being removed from D-Corp and so the skittish little kit latched onto the other man with a vengeance. Stephen hoped that with socialization, the clinginess would abate some but...Luka didn't seem incredibly inclined to socialize much. He seemed more than content to sit and play on his own and actually got distressed when around new individuals or lots of people.
Taking the latter into account, Stephen probably should had predicted the toddler's frazzled mood when he hauled the boy to the clothing outlet. Frightened by the sheer amount of people, Luka refused to walk, sitting down in the middle of the aisles, blanket draped around his shoulders as he glanced around nervously until his guardian picked him up again. And getting him to try on clothes...that was even worse.
That brought us to the current scene: Steve hanging on to the boy in the dressing room, desperately trying to get a pair of pants pulled onto a flailing, hissing and wailing child. Turns out that cats- whether they went on four legs or two- could damn near turn about in their skin or make themselves incredibly hard to hang on to. Eventually, the boy's wriggling paid off and Luka managed to slip away, plopping to the floor. He turned and book it under the changing room door, bounding off and away. Stephen opened the door and scanned the store, mouth partly agape. Oh, that did not just happen...
But oh, it did. Finally liberated, Luka scrambled away, darting from clothes rack to clothes rack for cover, finally stopping mid aisle, panting. He was only clad in his underwear at this point and he'd rather like to keep it that way. Clothes were hot and itchy.
He glanced for a new hiding place but was promptly distracted by a certain swishing tail. One that belonged to Sonja. Luka crept up on the unfamiliar girl, paw curiously extended as he gave a few bats to her tail. Oh, he liked swishy things. Swishy things made him forget all about how scared he was for the moment...

Sure she was bored but the last thing was to feel something touching her tail which is why she yipped and spun pulling her tail to her in surprise. A cat boy? Oh he was like her, a d-corp kid. Looking up towards her mother she was relieved to find that she wasn't really paying attention to busy looking at ugh clothes for her. Smiling she turned back to the boy.
"Hi wanna go hide in the racks of clothes?" She said softly as to not draw her mothers attention. "Look over there." Pointing she moved over to a circular rack lined with pants. Pushing some aside she revealed a cave-like hole big enough to fit them both easily.

At the sudden movement, he skittered back quickly and hissed reflexively, startled. He really ought to start expecting this kind of respond when he fidgeted with people's tails. It's not like it was the first time this had happened.
At her question, he glanced away, still rather timid with new people. His ears swiveled and twitched as he heard his father calling, though. He wasn't very fond of the idea of having to try on more clothes...so when the girl offered a hiding place, the boy had to wager it sounded pretty good. He glanced at her again, like he was trying to decide if she was good or bad before finally nodding and toddling back her way, clambering into the jungle of trousers and sitting there happily. He felt much safer inside the little nest, like he was in a fortress that defended against any and all social contact and roving parent-figures that wanted to clothe him again.
He looked at the girl again. "Luka." he said, pointing to himself. Then, he pointed at her curiously. He repeated the gesture a few times until it became clear he was offering his name and was curious about hers in return.

Climbing in and letting the pants fall back in place it was safe and cozy in here, like being under a blanket only better. Watching the boy point to himself and say Luka she caught on pretty quickly.
"Oh my name's Sonja," How embarrassing hiding with someone and not even introducing herself first. "I like your spots, I have spots too. See?" Turning she lifted up her sun dress and showed off a whole back filled with white spots. Relucantly letting the dress fall back down she plucked at it with a grimace. Her mother had figured out a way to secure it so she couldn't take it off by herself anymore. "I don't like clothes," She grumbled more to herself.
Outside of the "den" Ara had found the perfect little jumper for Sonja to try on, looking up she noticed that Sonja wasn't where she left her, nor at the toys the store had for small children. "Sonja? Honey where are you?" A cold feeling developed in her gut.

Luka kept watching her warily, much like he'd regarded Romeo and Jodie when he had first met them. She seemed low-key enough, though, for his liking. He nodded at her name. "Sonja. Sooonja." he repeated, carefully attempting to mimic the sounds she made. He reached over and poked her dress-covered back curiously where he'd seen the spots beneath before quickly withdraw and touching his own little patches uneasily. There were very easy to see given the fact he was so scantly clad. He...he liked his patches. The white-coated men at the Big Place has said they were special. Mr. Stephen said they were special. They made him special and he liked it.
He smiled a little, ear twitching when she started talking again. He nodded a little, he dislike of clothing unknowingly currying favor with the timid kitten.
"Itchy. Itchy, itchy. Hot. Luka not like clothes." he said, though 'clothes' ended up sounding more like 'cwose' when pushed through his undevloped linguistic skills.
Meanwhile, Stephen was experiencing a similar cold state of unease. He couldn't see that kitten anywhere. This...was bad. For a few reasons, in fact. Aside from the obvious 'welfare of a child' sort of ordeal, he was fairly sure D-Corp would not like finding out he accidentally lost one of their children. So he had to find the boy...it would just be tricky. Luka was a hybrid of small child and cat- two creatures well-reknown for their ability to hide.
"You missing a child too?" he remarked as he happened by Ara. "Seems like it's been going around lately."

"You too? It rubs my fur the wrong way, mommy says it's in-indee, it's not right to go out in pub-lick without clothes," She giggled when he poked her back with a finger. "Stop that tickles, I'll tickle you back but we'd get caught. Shhh they're right outside." She covered her mouth to stop the giggles from escaping.
Ara on the other hand was not having such a fun time of it, how did she loose her little girl, she only turned around for a second! Oh not good not good. There could be all kinds of sickos out there looking for a fuzzy little girl to kidnap. No thought was given to what d-corp would do to her though that would probably hit her later. She had checked the front of the store and had stopped near a rack of childrens jeans when a man spoke to her.
"Yes, have you seen her? She's not hard to miss about this high, furry with spots, light blue dress, pink glasses, and a tail. I know it sounds odd but she's a special child, so smart.."Ara was starting to ramble in her fear, picking at her hands she scanned the rest of the shop. It uddenly clicked that he was missing a child too. "Oh, oh i'm so sorry your looking for your child too, maybe we can look together? Whe look like?"

Luka listened intently- even if he had trouble with talking, he was a good listener. The boy had discovered the joy of the TV set thoguh most of the time he left it on not for the colorful pictures, but for the sounds. He liked sound. Well, if the noises weren't too loud and overwhelming, that is.
"Don't got fur." he said, rubbing at himself. It was true- though his skin was odd-colored, it was just that- skin. Oh! But wait! "'cept here-" He indicated his ears. "An' here." He turned around and wiggled his bobbed tail. Fir or not, he still liked the feeling of being free, as it were.
He froze when he heard his father approaching and talking. He didn't want to be found and made to try on clothes again! He didn't need to be told by the other girl to keep quiet. He fell silent and sat very, very still...though at least on his face he wore a tiny, nervous smile at their antics.
Stephen shook his head. He hadn't been paying much attention, but he suspected he'd have noticed another small animal-child romping about. "No, I'm sorry. I haven't seen anyone like that. And trust me...animal-kids don't strike me as odd anymore." he said, giving a laugh. "Anyways, my boy? He's about yea high-" he said, indicating a height around 3 feet or so, "And...well...he looks like a little calico cat. An upright-walking calico cat with brown hair." There was really no better way to describe things, honestly. "Maybe with two of us canvasing the store, we'll find them. Ah, my name is Stephen Moore, by the way."

Anxiously Ara nodded her head. "Alright I'll take the girl's dressing room and the 5 to 10 year old clothing and swing by to alert the staff. Can you take the boys and 1 to 4 clothing?"
Sonja slowly poked her head out after she heard the adults leave, with a small smile and giggle she pulled back in. "They didn't even know we were here. This is the best hiding spot ever," Giggling she looked over at him. He was right he didn't have fur how odd but neither did Ryan and that was ok, maybe he was like one of those naked cats she saw on tv once. "Can I feel?" She motioned at his skin, maybe it was like Ryans and all tough and rubbery feeling. "I'll let you touch my tail again."

Stephen gave a nod. "Alright, sounds like a plan. Good luck!" he said, moving back towards the boy's section. Well, at least he wasn't the only one having trouble with renegade animal-kids. He had to wonder, a moment, if she had a child in the Program too...he'd have to subtly feel her out later. It was always good to make new contacts...
Luka seemed pleased the two had left again, feeling secure with his little hiding place. It was the same feeling he got when he climbed up the bookcase or wedged himself under the bed or in his closet. Hidey-places were the best, oh yes. One could never have too many!
He tilted his head at her question, but nodded slowly. At least when he expected people to touch and poke him, it wasn't too bad. "O-okay..."
Upon touching, she'd find his skin felt like...well, skin. Like people skin. On D-Corp's sliding scale of humanity vs. animality, Luka obviously fell closer to the 'human' side.

"Ooooh it's soft like mommy's, here's my tail just don't pull ok?" Sonja said handing over the great fluffy thing that it was. "Do you like to play hand games. My mommy taught me pattie cake, it's fun. Wanna play?"
Now that she was hiding it was a little boring and there were no toys in here. The boy was nice but not the chattiest kid, maybe a game was in order, eye spy was out as pants and ceiling tiles a game does not make.
Ara was not having a good time of it the girls dressing room was clear, no little girl or boy. "Sonja? Mr. Moore's son? Your daddy's looking for you. " Looking under a few cases she approached the counter. "Excuse me ma'm? Please I need your help."
Giving her a stern look the sales woman shook her head and pointed towards the back of the short line. "I'm sorry but you'll have to go to the back of the line."
"But my child-"
"Back of the line please there are other customers."
With a growl of frustration she pushed her way in front of the woman and slammed her hands on the counter. "Do I look like I want to buy something? My child is missing in your store, and you're wasting time by actually telling me to go to the back of a line? Now do something to help or get me someone who can or so help me I will tear this store apart if I have to. Do you understand?"
Nervously nodding the sales woman called her manager. After getting a brief description, which involved pictures to prove that she wasn't lying that her child was small and furry, he called out over the intercom. "Attention there are two small children missing, a little girl who is brown and furry and a little boy who is white and spotted who are missing, if found please tell a sales associate immediately." Turning to Ara he gave a reassuring smile, "Don't worry we'll post someone at the door to make sure no one leaves with your child and I'll review the tapes now."
"Thank you so much I'm-I'm going to look more alright?" Her apprehension was lessened but it was still there. "That's fine, of course we will be looking as well." With a nod Ara went back to her search.

Luka was tense at the touch but allowed the tentative and gentle caresses. It was so much better when he was expecting it...even if he still wasn't overtly fond of it. He batted and pet at her tail a bit more when it was offered, smiling a bit. He liked tails. They were fun to paw at. He wasn't even sure why he found it fun, only that it seemed like the right thing to do when one was presented.
He quirked a head at the mention of patty-cake though. He had never really played hand games before. He looked at his own hands and the small, pink pads on the palms and fingertips. He held them out, head still tilted. "How?" He might not be good at talking, but he knew the basics at the very least.
It was probably for the best that Ara went to deal with the saleseperson. Stephen, being a more 'soft' individual would likely have not had the aggression to get results or a response quickly. It was why his aunt Jeanette, at almost 80 years old, was able to so easily badger him. He was a kind man, and more than a bit passive at times.
Unfortunately, he was having little luck calling for Luka and Sonja, though he was peeking in racks and trying to see atop the displays- Luka he knew could and would climb up. Oh, why couldn't things be easy?

With a smile that could make even oscar the grouch grin, Sonja readjusted herself to get ready to play. "Ok first you put your hands together like you're clapping and then you put this hand against mine and then back together and then the other hand, like this." She demonstrated by playing with the air. "Now you try ok?"
She liked this game cause the more you did it the sillier it got. "And when you do that you say 'Patty cake patty cake bakers bread'. But you don't have to say it yet if ya don't want to I can until you get it."
Another rack and another not there child, where was she? When she found her daughter she was going to be in so much trouble but that would be after she was smothered to death in hugs and kisses. Passing by Stephen she called out. "Any luck?"
Slowly but surely they were covering the store limiting the number of hiding spots. Ara could only hope that they were in one of them because if not... Oh she was not going to think on it right now that would only cause her to break down and she did not need that now.

Spurred on by Sonja's happiness, Luka grinned as well now. It was small at first but slowly grew. This girl...she was okay. She wasn't loud and didn't move too fast. And she had a soft tail. He didn't mimic her words just yet, still unsure, but he mirrored her hand gestures easily enough. His ears, which had been lowered since the beginning with nervousness, slowly began to perk happily as he played with the other.
Stephen sighed heavily, shaking his head. "Canvased the boy's department and I didn't see anything, top or bottom." He ought to be more angry and ought to be contemplating a good spanking once he found the kitten but Steve...oh, he was too soft for more than an explanation of why running away like this was a bad thing.

Giggling she nodded encouragingly. "Yea like that, now for the next part you keep doing that and I say 'Bake me a cake as fast as you can. Ok ok now this part you do what the song says and p***k it, and pat it and mark it with a B. Put it in the oven for baby and me." She demonstarted by pricking at the air, then patting and drawing the letter 'B' then going back to the previous hand motions. "That's it! Ok wanna try it all together now?"
She didn't know why but when he relaxed she subconciously relaxed too and playing became even more fun. She really enjoyed hiding with Luka.
"Ok I checked about half of the girls so let's comb through the rest, I'll take this side you take the right. Let's pray they are in here," Ara was starting to feel that panic creeping back in. The arguement with the sales woman had snapped her out of it, the fact that something got done gave her a sense of control again but now it was slipping away as each second past. She didn't know how Stephen stayed so calm looking, she knew she was a mess.
