It was a main topic of conversation lately...their victories or defeats regarding the plants they all so tenderly tried to grow and of course you could hardly go a few feet without hearing something about the missing riders. Mercy was worried, she happened to know one of those missing, ad talked to her and her crimson several times...but for Aeriths sake she tried not to think about it, the little white - sleeping in the weyr at the moment was far to young yet to have to deal with such stresses as her riders upset.
Or at least that was as good a reason as any for Mercy not to think about it right? Of course it was..and realy there wasn't anything she could do but try her best to plant the samples brought back by the remaining riders and help them grow. To that end she had arrived at the work stations and started to gather what she would need for this shift.

On Shedrawn's break from chores he had decided to have a nap, he needed some sleep catch up, as worrying about the missing riders had shredded his much loved ability to fall under instantly. But after half an hour (which he was lucky to get with two young flits, even if they were freshly oiled before he went to sleep), he was disturbed by his two flits. Isdrayon had been off flying, while Anyang had stayed by his side, curled into the small of his back, having a little lizard-nap as well. She was easily awakened by the arrival of the bronze, and he seriously thought she was the main conductor of their mini-symphony of "Up Up Up Up Up Up." Shedrawn laughed and got out of bed, this was probably the first time in his entire life he had awoken happy. No plots, no gossip, well not much gossip. And yet he soon remembered the dark specter of the missing riders, ever looming, Darkly over the Weyr. "What?" he inquired of the two critters. Saw mercy. Plant. No Aerith Plant! (Image of mystweed and pot with dirt)PLANT!!!The bronze finally acknowledged the green Yes plant. He vigorously nodded his head.
Shedrawn sat there kind of stunned, Over all he had got quite a clear picture of the situation. Ahh the wonders of firelizards, he was a lucky Harper worm to get two bright firelizards. He ran out the door and jogged to the Transplant area. He liked plants, he could just as easily been a Farmer as a Harper. Except plants talked a lot less than harpers and were thus less interesting. He came upon Mercy, his two flits bobbing happily behind on open wings. Isdrayon went right over to her and landed respectfully, giving her the chance to say no, while Anyang, who hadn't met Mercy yet peered at her curiously from Shedrawn's shoulder and chest.

Mercy glanced up as a bronze flit made an appearance in the middle of gathering her supplies "Isdrayon? What are you doing out here hmm?" She asked the little bronze as he landed before catching sight of Shedrawn out of the corner of her eye "Ah! He's not alone I see,good, I was worried for a moment there that he might making you run about looking for him again" he told him with a laugh.
'Are you here to do a transplant too? I thought I might try to get one in while Aerith and Sunny Slept" She told him before catching sight of the second flit "and whose your lovely green?"

"No, he didn't make me look, he just demanded that I come when he saw you. This is Anyang, I found her tied up in seaweed on the beach, she was being snoopy I think and got stuck in it, so now I have two hungry, hungries," he joked. "Yup, I'm here to do the transplant, I like plants." Anyang slithered down his arm and peeped at Mercy. Shedrawn grabbed some supplies and his plant. Anyang installed herself on the empty pot and Isdrayon asked Shedrawn where Sunny was, Queen? "Sleeping," Shedrawn said, "Like I was, but don't you dare go wake HER up."

Mercy smiled and spared a moment to stroke the little bronze flit before studying her plant with a skeptical eye. It was a tiny little thing as they all where and she was struck with the oddity of such a tiny plant being key to the future of the dragons who were so very large.
"Anyang is a pretty name" She commented "And I'm glad your good with plants because honestly I'm terrible with them" She confessed with a slight laugh "I mean I can dry them and mix them after their grown..but actually growing them..not so much"

Seeing Mercy look at her plant, Shedrawn inspected his, it was small and only a little bigger than Mercy's. The fact that they were so small was a good and bad thing, too large and the plant would go into shock, to small and it would be easily stressed by temperature fluctuations and more susceptible to being crushed by the unwary. "Oh well he thought here goes nothing," he filled the pot up, patted the substrate down and watered it, at least it was going to get a lot of water in it's floating bowl.

Mercy watched as Shedrawn worked with his plant - since he had expressed some knowledge with plats, or at least a like of them then she tried to emulate his work with her own plants. She'd only done this once before with Wykla and while the process hadn't changed she hardly considered herself decent at it all.
'So why do you like plants?" She asked simply to make small talk while they worked - chores, any type of chore always seemed to go by faster when you had someone to chat with.

"Well, I like them because they are green, for one thing, and because a faithful plant will grow under almost any condition and bring beauty to an otherwise desolate place. If given the proper care, a plant may give back in the form of friuts, or tubers.Also each plant is unique and curious in its own way, although I would like numbweed more if it didn't smell so bad. Plants if you think about it are the key to life along with water, so they are important and need respect. Herdbeasts eat plants, we eat the herdbeasts and the plants and the dragons eat the herdbeasts, so plants are our support system.That and you can climb trees which I used to enjoy ever so much when I was young."

[Random event!] Dice one = magnitude of event. Dice two = good (even) or bad (odd)
Abruptly, a striped brown firelizard appeared in the air before the pair. After glancing around furtively for a few moments, he took off at high speed amongst the pots. In his wake a couple of pots teetered precariously, looking as though they might fall over at any moment...

"Shards! Mercy! Help me grab the pots!" Shedrawn scrambled over to the tilting pots, unable to save one, thankfully it was empty. Shedrawn sighed, ISrayon meanwhile could get further than him and saved some other pots, Anyang flew over top of the pots, unhelpfully chasing the trouble some brown. She was not helping but she was not hindering either.

"Where did he come from?!" Mercy exclaimed as the brown appeared and proceeded to wreak mayhem in their workspace. "Shoo!...go on get out of here!" She yelled at the wayward brown, mumbling about ill trained firelizards as she rushed to help Shedrawn save the teetering pots as best she could. Steadying all the ones she could get too before they fell over with their precious cargo inside.
If only Aerith was awake she'd get the white to tell the brown flit to buzz off, but a tentative mental check confirmed the dragonet was still fat asleep..sleeping off the remnants of a rather large breakfast.

"Well he is gone now, thank you Mercy we wouldn't have saved as many if it were not for your help. Anyang come back hes been scolded enough. Back to planting I suppose huh?"

Thoroughly chastened, the invading flitt mewled at his pursuer before vanishing once more; one would hope that he went on to curl up and mope rather than to cause more havoc elsewhere.

Anyang fluttered back quite proud of herself. Shedrawn gave her a pet, she at least had been considerate and didn't knock any pots.

"At least he didn't cause to much damage" Mercy remarked as the troublesome brown disappeared "Some people just don't train their flits..and then they get into all sorts of mischief " She remarked to Shedrawn as she returned to the plant she'd left behind so that she could finish.
Patting the dirt up around the little weed she looked at it for a few moments and then put it down in the water - here's hoping this one survived. "I really hope this new method works" she told Shedrawn as she eyes the bobbing plant "Everyone is trying so hard and so much rides on these little plants...plus I think the Weyr could do with some good news what with the missing riders and all..."
