He sat down at the meal table grateful for the break in chores. Some people hated the chores but they kept him busy without being as dull as passing the shuttle back and forth to weave, though perhaps not as interesting as picking up the basics of healer craft. He'd have to try later and see if they minded him offering to help here the way he had with his master.
He poked at the food he had fetched not quite settled enough to be hungry but grateful never the less for sitting down with something to eat.

"You know its rude to take food and not eat it." She quirked a brown eyebrow as she spotted the boy poking at the food. Not one to chat and run - she sat her lean rump down at the table near the one she just addressed. "A lot of work went into that, so if not totally consumed it would be an insult!" She took a bite out of the plate of food she too had grabbed. As of yet Tila had not spoken to many here, besides a random quip of what she thought here or there who got her odd looks. She was new to this life in the Weyr, she had NO idea what being a candidate entitled honestly. Well, at least not fully. She had already gotten her butt whuuped by the never ending list of chores and jobs and classes that seemed to circle around her. Being a girl born and raised on a farm, she knew how to work herself to the bone.
Looking up now at him, she felt slightly self concious. ONLY slightly- She totally grew up around a herd of 4 brothers so she knew how to handle groups. "Im Tila, By the way." She added as if her previous comments were unspoken.

He blinked affronted by the comment and stared for a moment taking in the new comer. "I only just sat down." He said leaning slightly away as was his habit, a poor one and a rude one perhaps but he had yet to be bothered about it. "Do you want me to eat any bones I find too?" he countered with a small frown that quickly vanished as he turned back to stare at his plate. He wasn't sure he -wanted- to tell her his name but thought it might be best. "Jarest." He replied at last and took the first bite of his food.

"No? why would you eat the bones? You could choke!" She answered back almost innocently - yet who knows what this girl sounded like normally? "Besides i didn't literally mean you had to eat the bones too you know. Just the parts that are, you know, edible?" Tila grew up on the farm with a policy of waste not, want not. She rolled her eyes and sat back in her own chair... a slouch similar to his own. "Pleasure to meet you. How long you been here?"

"Not very long... yourself?" He asked at least in part to be polite, then blinked at her change in posture now similar to his own. He straitened as an experiment and took another bite. "You don't seem especially pleased to meet me though." He added quietly.

Rather unladylike she pulled the plate towards her with her left hand and ate with a fork with her right, while still leaning backwards. "Ack sorry, didn't mean to be rude." She set the plate down again on the table so she could look at him again. "Just arrived today actually... are he days always like this? Classes and chores?" If you looked close her blue eyes probably sparkled a little at the thought. She liked the idea of everyone working hard- it was one thing she really valued.
"...What gave you that idea?" A familiar prickle on the back of her neck reminded her that this situation seemed familiar, it was a similar story with all new people she met. Tila sucked at interacting with people... " Im sorry." She said leaning forward before standing and taking the plate with her. " Im not the best at this sort of thing, i get it." She said turning around looking for a table not that filled.

"Oh you... rolled your eyes." He said sounding apologetic. "But... yes they do seem to be. Everyone seems to keep buisy, well... some people seem to want to not be? But i've kept very busy." he assured her because of that spark in her eye. It was honest but he also didn't want to be thought of that he was one of those whom might be dodging said chores.
"Um... you don't...have to leave?" He added quickly and a little more loudly as she started to go. He winced at the pitch of his voice wondering if people would stare. "It's fine?"

Tila heard him speaking while walking away, she admitted to herself it was good to hear that someone here also liked hard work. From the workload and past experiences she was waiting to meet a few whiners here, which she was afraid that she wouldnt be able to hold herself back from.
"....Really?" She turned her head around, staring at Jarest with a new found interest. Normally people let her walk away...mostly men. She hated the sexism that was ran wildly through her home town, it ran like herdbeast towards the feed stations and she HATED it. Not the herdbeast, the people. She didnt care if people now looked at her weirdly, she just didn't. In her past she never really found someone who would call her back to them. Not willingly, anyways.
"I tend to say what im thinking, say whatever is in my head the second it arrives without wording it differently." She talked while walking back, sitting down right next to Jarest this time. "I cant help it and people normally push me away for it, so ive learned to walk away. I meant no harm."

"Nothing wrong with that?" he said looking nervous again, maybe it wasn't so much her as a girl just...that she was -there-.
"I do to... I mean, I try to just say it when people ask now but I don't always remember, and they still don't really like the answers all the time." he admitted sounding confused as to why they would be upset about honest answers.
"B...besides I had sisters." he said as though that explained everything about ... not minding saying what came strait to a persons head.

She couldn't help but laugh. "Sisters? No wonder your more tolerant." She places her plate back down, and ignored her food for the moment. She leaned back into her chair again, a posture similar from before. It should be apparent now that this was a habit of hers, not her copying him. "I grew up with four brothers and no sisters. I learned to be blunt and honest in my household, you cant keep secrets in a family of 7." She snickered at some sort of unspoken joke.
"Its good to know your honest though... people whom are not make me irritated at times. I mean, why hide things?" She playfully poked his shoulder. "No fun it keeping things hidden. They tend to stew, or something, from what ive heard."

His eyes widened for some reason at the poke on his shoulder and he rubbed at it gingerly before returning to his food and saying nothing more of it. "Just two older sisters, they both liked the family trade though." He said biting at his lip for a moment and wondering at what she had laughed at. "They teased me a lot when they heard I'd been searched while I was out with my master." He shrugged. "But... there seem to be a lot of us whom aren't originally from the wyer, so its really not quite like what they said."

She scoffed a little. "Teased because you were searched? I bet they were just jealous it was not them." She didnt know for sure, this was at least what she kept telling herself. Her parents also were not happy about her decision to become a candidate, they said she enjoyed cooking and should stay with her master. Personally... she got tired of being told what to do, how to act, she was too weak...etc. Tila always heard Weyrs were gender neutral, meaning they didn't care which add-ons you were gifted with.
"I was wondering that myself. My family always told me that Weyrs were horrible places to be... that they were just the leeches of Pern." She felt like the black sheep of her family anyways, she never followed the 'traditional' rules set up for her. "So, What craft are you in? You look a little scrawny...."

He looked at least a little put out by the scrawny comment, it wasn't as though he didn't do his share of things, then again she looked rather like she could drag him across the table if she were so inclined. "Apprentice Healer." He said mustering at least a little pride because he did think it a marvelous craft. "I like helping..." He shrugged a little "Mm... My sister's said that in Wyers if you didn't watch out all the wyer brats would ah...have their way with you by means of greeting." He said embarrassed for the outlandish claim which he had honestly for a short time believed.

"Oh wow, really? My parents sometimes had a healer come out and care for their livestock! He didn't talk much but he was really good at caring for the animals. Must be a difficult job." She really knew nothing about healing, she just was not delicate enough with her toughened hands to do the job. While she did love animals, she was better at raising them then healing them.
His next part though had her blinking at him and tilting her head. "Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Where the heck did they get that from?" Tila was very lively with her movements. She spoke with her hands as much as her mouth. "I have never heard that one before. So has anyone tried to bump boots with you then? Call me old fashioned but if that IS true then ah... sorry hun im off limits." She was not the kind to use her body THAT way as a meanings of saying 'hi im new how are you?'

"Wh...No I didn't mean...I mean no one has either! I'm not into...." He stammered turning a deep crimson enough to match any of the large deep red dragons that some of the riders were bonded to. "Th...they just said that the Wyers were very ah...ah... casual about those things and they were so casual that..." he shook his head looking like he was trying very hard to hide behind the scraggly black fall of hair.
