Well I think I'd like to open up a thread here for people who more mature u could say. I mean the more sophisticated type of people. I walk around gaia all the time and all I here is this sort of stuff...

User1 : Hewwo!!
User2: Hiya! *hugs tight*
User1: *purs!*

I understand that there is a lot of mature conversations here. But I think my overall goal is to just start a quaint group of people and see what everyone's opinions are on various subjects. I think it better for me to open one thread for a large amount of subjects instead of flodding the guild forum front page with many different threads for different issues.

So um I dun know... where to start? Well does anyone find that fate is constantly against them. I'm tired of all this emotional yanking around that inevitably happens... So tell me, in what instances are you screwed around with when it comes to 'fate' ...

Well, I think you'll find that while this Guild has a lot of the silly immature stuff, we also have mature discussions about certain things. We like to have fun here, but neither are we completely lacking in any intellectualism.

As for fate, I don't believe in it. What other people do to me is not guided by some ladies with string or a weirdo with some dice and a sadistic streak or what-have-you. I think that when bad things happen to me, they're the result of the choices of other people and my own choices.

Personally, I think this Guild can be one of the most "mature" places on Gaia (though sometimes not). I mean, we talk about some pretty serious issues here on a very regular basis. I'm not really sure what the point of this thread is. Also, I'm not entirely sure what emoting has to do with maturity or the lack there of...

You're not fat and gross... You're really attractive! *smiles* Yeah I understand there are alot of mature discussions here, but I'd just like to open my own thread if that's alright.

I guess I sort of do believe in fate. I mean I would consider myself budhist and I do believe in re-incarnation. Fate sort of goes in hand with that principle (... sort of...). There are times when I want to believe in fate. I think instances like when I fall in love or such. I always wonder if I push away people or if it happens because of fate (relationship-wise). I guess sometimes I don't want to look at all my faults because let's face it, we all do that way to much.

*smiles at JOVO* what's your take on fate?

Emoting is a crucial part of growing up. To learn to utilize and control your emotions is something that defines you. I think I made it pretty clear the point of this thread. I'd simply like to have a chit chat thread of my own. I'm sorry if that bothers you... xp

And you missed the point. The irony I noted was that you claim this thread to be for the mature, then you deny entry to fat and gross people, as if weight and physical appearance had anything at all to do with maturity.

Concomitantly, I found your first post immature.

ElegantApollo

Along the path we should all behave as if we have free will because our will is our only means of affecting change in the world.

Fate is irrelevant. Whether it exists or not, I will still do what I will. If what I will will has already been decided, then I will will it all the same, and nothing changes. The world remains the same, fate or no. Only will can create change.

Ok fine I'm done with this anyways... xp . Wow it must be a crime not to be politically correct for once... So never mind. I will refrain from making threads again in case I offend people...

He was merely stating that the irony in your first posts contradicted itself a few times. Deal with it. You can still be mature about it...

You didn't offend. It has nothing to do with being politically correct, either. You do know the meaning of irony, yes?

Anyway, you ignored my answer to the fate issue. wink

The flaw with your very distinctly determinist idea, JoVo, is that what if will is, in fact, an illusion that fate provides us to make what comes our way more acceptable, easier to swallow. Thus, it would necessarily be "someone's" fault that said random events happened, not an abstract concept that dictates our lives. True, you will what you will even if it is predetermined, but what offends most people about fate would be that, given it exists, they would be decieved into thinking that they are "...master of [their] ship... captain of [their] soul."

I don't see why that would be a flaw. If will is an illusion, then it is one that I will never be able to grasp, unless I am capable of achieving a level of consciousness that allows me to transcend the caprice of fate. Given that I am unable to know that will is illusory, then to live my life as if I have no will would lead me into a fatalistic worldview wherein I come to see everything as inevitable and accomplish nothing. But fate does not negate my being able to create change and affect the world for the better. It is, therefore, more advantageous for me to believe that I am free to will because then I am propelled toward taking an active rather than a passive role in my own life.

If fate exists, then we who believe in free will have not been deceived but blessed.

So by refusing to make any more threads I'm immature. I think not. It's a simple choice made on a basis on trial and error. I'm not trying to spite anyone. I'm simply making a statement. I think the definition of maturity must be slightly different here. You can still be politically incorrect and still mature... They don't necessarily go hand in hand.

Actually it does have to do with being politically correct in terms that I did not write something that would be offensive to any one group of people (based on any social/political/lifestyle/racial etc. background). And as per your answer to the fate question, I don't necessarily think that fate is irrelevant. So what if fate does exist. It doesn't define the way you might play out your desitny. It's true though. Making your own choices is still very important. But I think the belief and maybe even 'trust' in fate in the right mind, might prove to be maybe a good thing! 3nodding (It's been a while sice I read your post, so don't be mad if I didn't commented acordingly lol) sweatdrop
