How are you dressing? Just always in black or along with all the symblos and stuff? I hate it when people look at someone who's wearing a "gothy" outfit and think that that person must be a Satanist or something. Most of my shirts are black, but that doesn't mean anything. Just tell your parents that you like the darker colors better and that it's not affecting you in any way. Don't freak out on them though because then it will look like it's having a negititve affect on you.

I'm not sure what to tell you then. My dad still nags me saying I need to add color to my wardrobe. I tell him I do have color: black and blue (jeans). biggrin Then again, my parents are fairly lenient. Best of luck to you with the clothing issue.

You should politely ask your parents what phases they went through. Were they "hippies"? Tell them that you are expressing yourself in a healthy way, at least you aren't walking around naked, and ask them to love and respect who you are. If that doesn't work, ask them what compromises you can make.

I know the feeling, my mother is exactly the same and it makes her a hypocrite, coz she was like me when she was younger. (my dad couldn't care less, it's not like he's ever around though, he'd probaly be proud though). If they do't accept you for it then run away, it works every time. go to a friends house for a couple of days and then go back and they'll either be way mad or really sorry.

this is what I tell my mom, I tell her that I will dress with dress up shirts and kahkis but I'm going to stop going to Church, start smoking and doing drugs, start getting drunk, and start having permiscious sex...she asks "why?", I tell her that it doesn't matter what I do because I "look nice"....yeah, that usually works...

It really bugs my mum what I wear but its peretty normal for parents to freak over little things, my dad's okay with it, but my mum complains about the amount of read and black eye make up, black clothes and the music I listen to but shes gave up trying to make me change now... but still complains.

My parents (even though they are seperated) have not told me that they have a problem with the way I dress. Although, I know they do. Lately I have been adding more color to my wardrobe. Not much, but it does help. Anyways, talk to your parents. Tell them that you are comfortable wearing those clothes.
