So I grew up with the simple belief that if your a good person you will go to a good place. And then these asshats show up at my door and no sooner do I open the door do they tell my Religion is wrong.

the whole conversation went like this:
Ding-dong

Open door.

Asshats: Your religion is wrong.

Close door.

Ding-dong,Ding-dong,Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-dong.
stressed

discuss your experiences.

I'm Shinto and the jinja meets once a month + extras for special days and events.

Being pagan it makes things the door-to-door religious people interesting. Do I have questions anout God or the Bible? Yes. Many.
Will I go to Heaven? No, I have better things to do.

I invte them in or just converse on the street, having a theological discussions. Ny kids love to get involved to. It gives them a chance to test their knowledge and make people uncomfortable (something they really enjoy)

The last two encounters were:

a goup from who know what sect asking me if I would join them celebrating the death of Jesus Christ. WTF?!! How tacky and tastless can you get?! They were throw in Jesus is Dead party in the part and were inviting local families. I had never heard of such a terrible thing and was caught off gaurd, made them repeat it and OMFG they are celebrating the torturous death of the poor guy! I said no thank you to the creepy sickos and closed the door.

Mormons asking me if I had any questions about Mormonism or the Later Day Teachings, so I asked them why underwear?
It was the standard set up: one Temple Elder and one Uninitiated and HAHAAHA the younger one was clueless that there even was Sacred Vestments (aka Holy Undies) that you sew badges on!
It was hillarious. The Elder tried to explain how the underwear was an expression of his special relationship with his god [in his pants].
The Unintiated was so lost and confused rofl He hadn't attained the rank to have knowledge of the Vestements and you could just see the doubt and pour all over his face the Elder talked about his love for God [in his pants] and the importance of underwear.
It was f@cking great

I'm an Atheist to the core, and I'm adamant about my beliefs. I feel that although religion gives some people hope and a sense of community and belonging, that value is far outweighed by it's negative social and political uses.

One liners are amazing aren't they?

@Topic: I have been to church literally twice in my life. The last time was years ago. A friend invited me to go with him, and i was bored so i figured I'd go. For, i don't know how long, the preacher condemned the most evil thing this world can imagine, Robocop. Particularly the scene where the main character gets shot to bits. It was a waste of my time. I don't believe in God, i just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Another time i was walking to a friends house, and me and my friend were wearing all black. We walked up this hill, and this guy stops us and says "God loves all his children, even you". Me and my friend just ignored him. Than the guy yells up the hill "Would you like a Bible?...". At this point i got a little pissed and told him no, my friend than proceeded to flip him the finger and told him to "******** off".

Thats about all the experience i have.

I'm atheist/agnostic, but I sometimes practice different pagan religions for entertainment purposes.
I am currently worshiping the Greek God Eros. ;3

Erm. Well, I'm half atheist. If there is such a thing. I don't go to church, but every once in a while I pray. But I don't believe in heaven. I believe in the afterlife, and I think yin/yang, karma, and stuff are real.

Then by definition you aren't an Atheist...
Atheist basically means you believe in nothing, no unseen forces, no higher powers, no afterlife, no god, when you pray no one hears you, etc.

I only believe that life is precious and that we should be happy about it and not screwing somebody's life.
I made a vow;
I vowed to develop understanding in order to protect the lives of people animals plants and minerals.

What other people believe is their business, as long as others won't be damaged by that.

Is life a higher force?

Life can be wonderful so enjoy it and let others enjoy to.

Here's the thing about Christians: most of them don't read their own Bible.... I don't know what your opinion of the book is, but it doesn't teach hate and intolerance, and it certainly doesn't encourage harassing people to prove a point. I believe there's one way to God, but many different paths that lead to that one way. Since God isn't standing here telling us in person what's right, we only have faith to go on. No one person knows any more than any other, the way I see it.

Eh...some days I'm atheist, some days I'm something else. I just don't touch religion if I can help it, which is really hard because I live in a place so religious, the first unit in one of our classes (it's a public school) was called "Dios y yo", or "God and I".

I think we shouldn't worry about whether you're pleasing some deity. Just be good, be happy when possible. The world is what it is.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. I would never try and push my beliefs on someone who was unwilling to listen, and it frustrates me that most people don't have the courtesy to do the same.

I grew up on Christian morals and beliefs, and up until the age 11, I was in church at least twice a week. I've probably read the Bible more than most Christians, and have a general knowledge of it. Some things happened when I was young, and I have my own reasons for my beliefs, but we won't go into that.

The logical person that I am now won't allow me to believe in magic and miracles. Everything is subject to chance. I believe that if you do good things, then good things will happen to you, but bad things are bound to happen as well. It's science. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Actually, you'd be surprised what the Bible promotes. My favorite video: Mostly to Prove my Point. Lol Because West Wing rocks and when the president stands, nobody sits. <.<

But the Bible is just a book, written by man, and man hasn't exactly proven themselves to be entirely truthful. Now, I'm not saying that the entire thing is a work of fiction, but I'm just pointing out that the fact that it was written by man before the times of references and bibliographies, and cannot be written off as a historical source.

The Bible has good stories, and can teach us good morals upon which to build our lives, but where people went wrong is when they took a good idea and built a belief structure around it.

I honestly don't believe that any religion has quite nailed it yet, because if there really was a god, we'd know which religion was right by now.

Generic Religious Person: *Rapes doorbell* "Have you found Jesus in your life?"

Me: "s**t! He's lost again?!" *Slams door. Now plans on hanging up 'Have you seen this Jesus?' posters with the phone number of the church to call if he is found.*
