She may not be a wolf, but she's from the same family and she sure has earned her right to be called a hero.

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A family in Canada is recovering from a terrifying ordeal from the weekend.
Their young son was targeted by a cougar in their backyard, but miraculously he was saved by
his golden retriever, Angel.

The incident was the second such cougar attack in Boston Bar, a town about 87 miles northeast
of Vancouver, in less than a week.

"When I first saw the cougar, I thought, 'I'm dead.' I was pretty scared," explained 11-year-old
Austin Forman who was in the backyard gathering firewood.

Austin was able to run into the house while Angel tangled with the cougar. The animals fought
outside the house.

A police officer was nearby and quickly responded to the scene. He fired two shots at the animals
and killed the cougar.

"It was kind of looking at me growling, and I could see that it was chewing down a bit more on
the dog," said Constable Chad Gravell of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. "So at that point,
I fired one more round and hit the cougar again and it seemed to put it down."

Travis Conkin, a relative of the family described what he saw when he arrived in the backyard.
"I walked up to the animals which were totally entwined together as one thing. There was no
sound, no movement. pulled the cougar off of the dog and out of nowhere this miraculous
gasp, and the dog springs up and starts breathing again."

Austin was shaken by the incident, but was very happy that Angel survived the attack. "She
knew she had protected me so she came up the stairs. Even though she was hurting, she came
up and I pet her and she was wagging her tail and I was happy."

"It's a miracle that, just the whole thing was a miracle," said Austin's mother, Sheri Forman.

"Our son was saved by an Angel because I think that's exactly what she is," added dad Jabal Conkin.

"I could see the joy that came to his face once he saw the animal," said Travis Conkin. "They had
already written this animal off in their minds. It was just like, oh my goodness, this sense of relief
on their faces was immaculate."

"That is my best friend now," said Austin. "She's been my best friend since I got her, but now she's
even more special."

It truly is. She protected a member of her family, her pack. I daresay, she's got the heart of a wolf beating in that chest of hers. Not only did she protect her person from a cougar, she survived.

That is an amazing story. She really did act with the resolve of a wolf. I've seen the same type of protective behavior from my dogs ^_^ It's such a great feeling. This one time, this little very mean Shiba mix in my neighborhood came up to me and my dog while walking and started growling and snapping. My dog is very chill and loving, and I was thinking "Crap. This annoying little Shiba is going to bite the crap my good-natured Bernese." Then I hear this rumble, like thunder, and realized it was coming from my buddy. He stepped in front of me and snarled like I've never heard and that little jerk took off yelping with his tail between his legs. Then he looks up to me with this stupid look like, "I do good?" I almost cried. I think it's beautiful that dogs will allow us into their packs/we'll allow them into ours.

Mhm. Go Bernie. heart

My dog's the same way, laid back and all. But this mean neighborhood dog, Refrigerator, broke into our backyard when I was about 5 years old. My dog, sweet boy that he is, had him pinned into submission, away from the family. He really is our family. My brothers and I call him our brother.

Awww, that's awesome! ^_^ Yeah, I call Bernie "Booty" for the most part, but me and my sister's call him our brother as well. My dad calls him Bernard J. , and he gets the last name of the family added too, because he is a part of it. ^_^ My parents call him "the boy" and my mom calls him "your son" to my dad, seeing as he's the only male sibling. It's funny how they really do love each member of their pack. He had some behavior issues for a while, so he got kicked out of my parents' den. He would come to the end of the hall and lay with his paws juuuust inside their door, until my mom forgave him and let him sleep next to the bed again. He was so happy. lol.

Our pets very much are part of the family. It's ridiculous to think of them any other way.

I wish I had a dog. I've only got a cat and shes a pain. I like the pack behavior of dogs and I mean who doesn't love cuddleing with a fluffy dog on a cold winters night?

I cuddle with my Bamboo every night! He's not big and not too fluffy (he looks like the cat from Coraline), nor is he a dog, but he's a sweetie. It's the thought that counts, right!? gonk

I know how that is--most of the cats in existence don't like to be held on anyone's terms except their own.

Really cute story,
my dad has a golden, spoiled to the bone.
I have two beagles, their too spastic to do anything like that.
Maybe I don't give them enough credit, they're my sister's pets.
xD
-nod-

I love my cats!
Though they would watch me being ate by a cougar and regret it later when no one was there to feed and love on them.

It's true. Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.
