Just curious, but what other kinds of books do you guys like to read, besides the Anita books. Not necessarily other vamp books, just other books in general.

Lately, I've been reading a lot of fantasy like Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series (which I love!) at the moment I'm reading Robert's Jorden The Wheel of Time series (is also very good). I read romance (Nora Roberts and such) and mystery like the Stephanie Plum series.

I also dig the Stephanie Plum series 3nodding Janet Evanovich's Full House books aren't bad but I would rather read about Stephanie's misadventures.

I mostly read horror and mystery novels, though if I hear it's a good story I'll try any genre. I'm a big fan of Stephen King and Clive Barker. I enjoy the all round insanity littered within the pages of their stories. I also read a little Patricia Cornwell. The Kay Scarpetta series is one of my favorites to listen to at work. That and the In Death series by J D Robb. Lately I'm trying to break into Nancy Collins and (gasp) various Japanese manga titles.

If you like the Patricia Cornwell books, I highly recommend the Tempe Brennon books by Kathy Reichs! The main character Tempe is a forensic anthropologist who works in Canada and the U.S. I really like them.

I also love the Amelia Peabody Emerson books by Elizabeth Peters. She is one of my favorite authors, but I haven't found anyone on Gaia that likes her, or has even heard of her for that matter. The books have a very dry sense of humor.

I just started reading the Stephanie Plum series myself! Love it so far (especially Rex! blaugh )

I read other vampire books, of course, just because I can't get enough of them, but otherwise my favorite genre tends to be fantasy.
I've read several Xanth books (probably too many, but they're kinda fun).
Jane Yolen wrote several awesome stories, one of my favorites being the Pit Dragon Trilogy, though the Young Merlin Trilogy is also a great series. I've read everything Tamora Pierce has published in paperback so far, and plan to continue reading. I absolutely LOVE her worlds and gods, and all the various cultures she creates. Tolkien, of course. Ella Enchanted was very witty. The Redwall books by Brian Jacques are great, though I love his books about the survivors of the Flying Dutchman even more. All fourteen of the Oz books are enjoyable. Of course, Julie and the Wolves (and the sequels) are a most for a wolf-lover like me. I read all three Artemis Fowl books, with varying levels of enjoyment (the first one was, I think, the best). Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising sequence is an older series that I love because of all the Arthurian/Gaelic legends. I've read the Harry Potter books, though I dunno... the last book kinda made me worry... I got a free copy of On Fire's Wings, by Christie Golden, this summer at ComiCon, and I found it very enjoyable. Eva Ibbotson's books are always a fun read. I also read a duet by Monica Furlong; Juniper and Wise Child. They were very interesting.
Currently, I'm reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's pretty good so far.

*looks at above post* gah... eek I read too much.

I know her! I listen to her at work sometimes. I was going to mention the Amelia Peabody series but I couldn't think of the author's name XD I stumbled upon the books on tape by accident, thinking they were about another character from the first story I read (Don't remember the story's name but the character is Vicki Bliss). First I thought the accents were going to kill me but after a while it wasn't bad.

I am so glad to know you like Amelia Peabody! I listen to the books all the time at work too. I am currently listening to Seeing a Large Cat.

Do you mean, like, favourite books?

'cause I have a few.

My fave fave is Magician by Raymond E Feist. And then any other book by Raymond E Feist just rules.
But other faves are Nightrunner Series by Lynn Flewelling, the Black Jewell Trilogy by Anne Bishop, the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody and many many others. I like authors like Sara Douglass and Trudi Canavan and and I can't continue. It's too much. lol

But for authors along the same lines as Laurell K Hamilton... I like Alice Borchardt (If that's who you spell her name?) and I like Annette Curtis Klause (I hope I got her name right... It's been awhile since I read anything by her).
I haven't much read anything by Anne Rice so I can't comment on that.

I love that trilogy too! Most of my favs are posted on the Books like Anita Blake? thread but that's mostly my paranormal recommendations. Another mystery I like is the Mallory Series by Carol O'Connell.

I love the read the Buffy/Angel crossover series, even though there are only a few. I also enjoy reading books about Troy, like Daughter of Troy by...can't remember her name...oops!

Hey, has anyone ever read the "Forgotten Realms" series? It's a D&D collection and has books based off the computer RPGs like Baldur's Gate 1&2, Neverwinter Nights, and Icewindale.

Did anyone here like Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley? I liked it so much, but the follow up prequels, aren't as good, IMO.
