Winter had come rather unexpectedly for the gray she-wolf. It had seemed such a short time ago when this season was upon her, and now she just felt all out of whack. Memories from a year ago kept flooding back into her mind, tainting her dreams and turning them into nitemares. There were some things she rather regretted doing, now that she was older and looking back on them.

A slight sigh escaped her maw as she sat on the banks of a river, staring down at her reflection. There was some snow on the ground, but she hardly felt its cold yet. Thick, double-layered fur was a wonderful thing when the seasons turned cold.

Suddenly Kal plopped down on her stomach, a slight grunt coming out as a result. Right now, in the early morning, she just wanted to lay there and do nothing. For once, she was depressed.

The first snow of winter had just begun to fall when Leigh made his way out into the wood. It was but an elusive flurry, it would not stick to the ground, but Leigh found himself enlivened. He'd been born in a blizzard back in the wastelands of his home, and cold was, in a way, his element.

The silver wolf had left his dwelling back with Dristi and Harlequinn for an early morning walk. The two females were good company, but every male needed time to roam now and then. Besides, he might even return before they woke.

Icy gray eyes scanned the thinning foliage, gaze sifting through the shadows of morning to land on a ghostly figure at the side of the river, a shewolf hunched over, her form listless, her head low.

Leigh was a bit curious as he padded out of the woods and onto the bank behind her. "Well, hey there, darling." He spoke to catch her attention, a smirk on his lips.

Snow had begun to fall onto her head and back as she lay there, motionless except for her breathing. The cold wind had been harsh and didn't allow Kal to scent the other before he came walking right up to her. Sure, there was the sound that he made, but she was feeling a little too depressed to be paying any attention to the acute sounds of the forest.

So instead of being ready for his approach, the gray she-wolf suddenly spazzed and jumped to her feet. It always bothered her when someone thought it was okay to just sneak up on a total stranger. And it was always a bad move with her.

Instantly her fur was bristled, her fangs exposed. Against the black of her lips they looked fiercely white. A deep growl rose from deep within her throat as she took up a defensive stance.

"Who're you?" Kalia growled out to the other, her head turned slightly so that she could make sure she could see him fully. What was the use of growling and acting fierce if one just looked at another with a blind eye?

Leigh noted Kalia's dead eye, and his mind quickly catalogued it as a potential weakness. His eye completed a cursory sweep over her form as he registered the female's presence. Her coat was a mottled gray, similar in color to his own in places. She looked a little older than Harlequinn and Dristi, but she was certainly no troll. His eyes lingered on her face for a moment as she let out a growl.

The male nonchalantly fell into a languid, almost cat-like stretch. "The name's Leigh." His eyes danced with an odd mixture of humor and beligerence.

"Do all the ladies around here play hard to get?" He let a hissing laugh escape through his teeth, flicking his fox colored tail. "I'm liking these woods more and more."

He narrowed his eyes slightly, appraisingly. "What's your name?

"I never asked for you name," she snapped. Yet for some reason she loosened up a bit as he did. This male didn't seem too threatening to her, so perhaps it was her depressed mood that caused her to just not care at the moment.

Then... hard to get? Hm, this one thought he was some sort of hottie or whatever? Alright... she could go along with that. For the first time in these woods, it seemed her mischevious side was coming out. How interesting...

A second after she growled, she thought of ways to make it seem like it wasn't unusual for her to go from snapping to sitting comfortably and in a relaxed manner. "I apologize, you surprised me and that's why I snapped." Her good eye glinted, a sly grin creeping across her face.

"Hm, some play hard to get, some don't." The glint in her eye flared up. "My name's Kal."

Leigh snorted, a plume of silver exhaust leaving his nose. He glanced suspiciously at Kalia at her sudden mood change, turning his muzzle slightly to face her as he tried to calculate her actions. He flexed his darkened paws, black claws digging into the earth. "No trouble..." He muttered, trailing off uncertainly.

At her next comment, he fixed his cloudy gaze on her good eye, his face in a deadpan. "And which type would you be, Kal?

Kalia paused for a moment after Leigh questioned about which 'type' she was. She looked up and away from him, pretending to be putting some thought into her answer. Really, it was quite simple.

"Well, it ultimately depends if I like the male or not," she replied smoothly, her ears flicking curiously in his direction. Her gaze drifted back in his direction until they finally fixed onto his own orbs.

"Are you any certain type, Leigh?"

"Oh really?" Leigh drawled, arching his brow, and scoffed lightly at her following question.

"I'm hard to classify" He deftly pushed past her, flicking his tail against her shoulder as he made his way to the water and bent down to have a drink.

When he had drunk his fill, he craned his neck to the gray female again, water dripping from his muzzle as he licked droplets of moisture off his whiskers. "What are you doing here? Do you live here?"

Suddenly memoried flooded into the femme's mind. Memories of back home when Koro and Shetani were but strangers and she hadn't met them yet. They were really quite a handsome pair, but their personalities just made the two the most unbearable wolves in her life. Yet before she had figured out their true nature, she had enjoyed flirting with them, playing with their heads a little.

A sly smirk came over her maw to replace the slight frown that had been there a second before because of her train of thought.

"Really?" Kal asked, moving around him slowly, as if looking him over or checking him out or something. Hm, she would find out in due time.

"Nope, I don't live here... quite the opposite actually. My packlands are far from here, but a break every now and then doesn't hurt anyone." She 'forgot' to mention that that break she mentioned was one that was meant to clear her head and get straight some thoughts that had been tugging at her brain.

Leigh obnoxiously quirked an eyebrow as Kalia's own gaze swept over his form. He certainly did the 'look-over' enough to recognize it when it was used on himself. His mouth twisted into a wry smile. This female hadn't faltered yet, which was definitely a plus in his mind. He liked them strong, tough, like good Wastelands girls.

"And what's a lady like yourself need a break for, anyway?" He rumbled.

"Speaking of packs, have you seen a fox-colored wolf anywhere around here? Goes by the name of... Soul?"

Hm, if Leigh really liked his women strong, he'd definitely like this one. Kal, during all of her travels, had made sure she was nice and strong. Most thought that because she was blind in one eye that set her off as weak and gave them a disadvantage over her; she had made sure it was the other way around. Strength was a good quality to have in this cold world.

Or... not so cold world. Something inside of the femme's brain clicked that made her sort of attracted to Leigh, made him hot. ( blaugh )

"Can't a lady just take a break now and then without having a reason?" she threw back at him, rather playfully actually. Then she gave a slight shrug, or what would be a shrug if wolves were capable of such gestures. "There's just this icky female that bothers me quite a bit. But I shut her up whenever she starts up. Sometimes, though, it's more than even I can handle." Lie. It wasn't because of Istas that she left for a slight break, though that was part of the reason.

"Soul?" the gray wolfess echoed. "Hm.. it rings a bell for some reason but I don't believe I've met this... Soul... before." Why did she know that name so well...?

Instantly she began searching through her brain, trying to figure out just where she knew this 'Soul' from. Hm... ah! Catalyst! Hadn't he said something about searching for his daughter? At least, Kalia thought the name of his daughter had been Soul.

"I believe I know her father, though."

"I suppose she can." Leigh said, turning the words slowly over his mouth as he craned his sinouous neck higher. "I didn't think someone like you could be ruffled by an 'icky' female. What's she do to get your goat, so to speak?" His eyes narrowed and another almost malicious smile crossed his lips.

Any trace of humor left the male's face when he heard her next anser, however. "Catalyst..." He hissed the name with loathing, his tail arching behind him reflexively. "He survived too?" Leigh murmured a soft growl. He glanced about him. He didn't have to leave this second, so he could afford to beat about the bush a little more. "And what was your impression of this Catalyst?" He demanded smoothly, as if testing her, leaning tantalizingly closer to her again.

Kalia gave a smile similar to that of Leigh's: malicious and unnatural. "This 'icky' female likes to think she's stronger than she is. She has a puppy bite but a fierce growl... I keep her in her place, but there are times when I feel like killing her." A pause. "I don't want to repeat history." The smile widened to reveal pearly white fangs that were once driven into the bodies of her half-sister's family.

A second later, when the subject was changed again, the smile slipped from her place and her expression turned to that of a serious tone. "Yes, Catalyst..." Kal's fur bristled slightly when the other growled and hissed at the name. It was obvious this one didn't like him. Hm, too bad for Leigh, that just set him on the bad list. Catalyst was her friend.

Another second and she was replying confidently to his question: "This Catalyst is my friend." She stepped away from him when he leaned closer towards her, as if thinking that she would let some handsome male get past her guard. It was obvious that she believed the games over. "He had a heart and manners." This time her voice was almost a growl.
