The Ruins 2008 (movie)

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

Synopsis: 4 friends from America go on a trip to Mexico where they meet some German travelers meeting up with friends at an archeological dig. When they decide go for an adventure, they instead get trapped on the ruin with a creeping enemy.

Review: I liked this movie, which was a surprise, I thought it was going to be another gore fest much like Turistas or Hostel. But instead there is a better enemy at work than just a typical slasher who is out for blood, A sinister plant. It sounds like a dumb idea but the movie really makes it work.

Smart for a horror movie, it actually has some good characters with depth. (I imagine since this movie is based on a book.) Not too many plot holes and rather nice special effects.

On the dvd it has the alternate ending which I like much better than the original one.

Now I want to read the book smile

F.E.A.R. The game.

Overall score: Five flaming piles of s**t out of five.

Plot: An elite solider known only as the 'point man' and 'him' is tasked with the mission of eliminating Paxton Fettel; a telepathic psycopath general with a large distaste for forks and knives. Throughout the game, you encounter and little girl and a teenaged girl who are both the same person, and is named Alma.

This game is ******** awesome. It mixes american 'tension' horror with Japanese 'in your face' horror complete with twitchy movements, hallucinations, insane amounts of blood and gore and a nude chick that tries to burn you to death.

All this in a game for the PC, 360 and PS3.

The graphics are pretty good considering what year it was made, the budget given, the amount of variables in game and most importantly, the physics engine. You'll have fun blowing up countless enemy soldiers with grenades, rocket launchers and conveniently placed explosive barrels throughout the game.

The gameplay is again, great as there are many different ways to react to a situation, as well as how your enemy will react. While some parts are scripted and predictable, when the AI takes over, it catches you off guard.

The story is the best thing about the whole game, and leaves the ending open for a sequel, which does exist, but has nothing to do with the events in this game. *sigh* There was an expansion pack for this game, but it had been discarded by Warners and is now not canon.

Ending note: BUY THIS ******** GAME

Friday the 13th (Part 12) (2009)

Rating: 4.5 out of 10

Synopsis: Usual Friday the 13th plot. College kids + Sex + Alcohol + Jason = lots of death. Ok, real synopsis- College students go partying in a cabin that happens to be near good old Camp Crystal Lake. Of course Jason is in residence and you can guess from there.

Review: Well, it was about what I expected, some soft core porn and a lot of death. There was a good death scene, chick stuck burning in a sleeping bag over the camp fire. And there was lots of death, which I like. (Two sets of stupid drunk a** college kids died) I got the "killer cut" so I assume that was the one not shown in theaters, which probably means there was less sex on the big screen.

It's interesting the differences from the 80's and 2009- the sex is sooo much more explicit smile and the plot was different, surprisingly there was no Jason as a killer in the first one, it was all the mom killing the camp counselors that let Jason drown. But it's just Jason killing the college kids this time, who is of course dead so you can't kill him smile

Horror Inc. Art Contest - Open to All

Diary of the Dead

Rating: 9/10
Synopsis: Diary of the Dead follows a group of college students the night the s**t hits the fan. It takes a more modern approach to the zombie question by putting the cameraman inside the movie, much like Cloverfield.
Review: Overall, I loved it. The characters and story were believable, there were no ridiculous heroics that you would normally see in a zombie movie. It's a very real story presented in a very real way. Diary of the Dead starts out as a bunch of kids making a horror movie, and turns into much much more. The only thing I did not like was how the ending left too many questions, that may never be answered with a sequel.

(I hope my review was okay! If anyone has any pointers, feel free to let me know!)

Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009)

Rating: 9 out of 10

Synopsis: Two guys end up going on a hiking trip in the small town of Cragwich UK after a breakup. There they find there is a curse on the town that turns every girl into a lesbian vampire after their 18th birthday. They run into some hot researchers and the fun vampirism starts there.

Review: It was suprisingly good surprised The humor was whitty like in Shaun of the dead and the characters were amusing. There was very interesting cinematography and hillarious fight scenes. The humor isn't even all that crude (considering the context). Overall rent it, but it is a little sexual.

Lets not forget that Jason runs in this remake.

Synopsis: A former detective takes a job of guarding a department store that has been damaged from a fire years ago. After a few nights, he starts seeing things in the mirrors

Incident At Lake County

Rating: 8/10, 2/10*
Synopsis: A family in a rural town gets together for Thanksgiving. When a few members decide to go out and investigate the woods, they fall upon an alien presence that is determined to get them all.
Review: This is a documentary about the disappearance of an entire family. I liked it overall, but it can get pretty cheesy at some points. There's plenty of suspense though.

*Why I gave it two ratings: *Begin Spoiler*
When my brother and I first watched it, we thought it was a real video so it scared the ******** out of us in broad daylight. The second time we watched it, it was much less scary.*End Spoiler*

Haunting in Conneticutt (200 cool

Rating: 8.5/10
Synopsis: A cancerous teenager and his family move into a beautiful haunted house in Conneticutt, which used to be a funeral home. Bad idea. The cancer kid makes his home in the basment, is haunted and hell breaks loose.
Review: In my opinion, this was a good movie. At the beggining, they show real pictures of dead people, that was kick a**. Then we get emotional ties with the main character, ((insert his name here because I forget)), because he has cancer. When we first got in the basment at night, the ghost made me jump. And when they cut off the corpses eyelids, and carved the curse in them my friend almost threw up. I thought it was cool. The ghosts looked awesome, and the flashback scenes were cool. To nitpick; How do you find out everything you need to know at the library? >.> And the end was great 3nodding

Dead Space (VG) (200 cool and
Dead Space: Downfall (animation) (200 cool

Rating: 7 out of 10 and 5.5 out of 10

Synopsis: A religous group is on an illegal mission to get a artifact off of a dead planet. The crew of Ishimura (the ship) all die and a rescue/investigation team come to find out what happened. (sums up both)

Review: The game is pretty good, but pretty much a ripoff of doom 3 imo. Although it does have interesting things like zero gravity going for it and they way to fight monsters is interesting (cutting off there limbs instead of like a headshot).

I did get a little annoyed at the plot though, telling me: once you fix this we'll be good and ready to get help/live/leave, oh wait looks like this is broken. Now that you fixed the first thing... let's fix another! for like every chapter. Example: Oh you sent the SOS beacon yay! Oh wait it looks like communications is jammed better go fix that so we can talk to help (after of course we get a signal from another ship, didn't think of that before hand.)

I think if you liked Doom 3 you'll like Dead Space. ANd a much better review than mine: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/333-Dead-Space

Now for the movie: supposedly a prequel in which the stories (for game and animation) mesh with each other, except for they don't. The game makes it seem like it was a slow take over, with all of hospital wing full signs every where, but the movie is the kind where everyone dies with in like 24 hours. But it is pretty good and it's good to see an adult american animation movie.

Drag Me to Hell

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

Synopsis: To make a promotion, a young woman goes against her better judgement and denies a loan to an ancient Gypsy. In return, the spited Gypsy curses her and in three days she will be dragged down to the bowels of Hell if she doesn't figure out how to cancel out the curse.

Review: I gotta admit, for a modern movie it was pretty. damn. good. I was kind of hesitant at first, because most of the Horror Movies nowadays are shitty re-makes of old horror legends, but once I sat through the whole thing- having missed the first few minutes because of those damn lines at the concession stand- I rather liked it. And later on I found that it was, in fact, an original movie too! I was tickled pink. You should at least attempt to see this movie some time in the future.

The Cottage

Rating:8/10

Synopsis:Brothers David (Andy Serkis) and Peter, and dim-wit Andrew hole up at a secluded country cottage. Although barely on speaking terms, they have set aside their differences to make a lot of money fast, by kidnapping Tracey, the daughter of mob boss Arnie. With Arnie and his henchmen closing in on the hapless three, things quickly take a turn for the worse when Tracey outwits her captors and, with Peter as her hostage, escapes through the nearby woods to a remote farmhouse. As David and Andrew close in on her trail, they soon discover something far more terrifying is lurking in the darkness and the stage is set for a grotesquely comic battle for survival.

Review: I will be the first to admit that this movie does start out a bit slow in the beginning. At first it seems like your average, everyday kidnap the mob boss' daughter/stepdaughter type of movie. The Kidnappers are comically inadequate and the kidnappee is such a b***h that most will not be able to sympathize with her. The good stuff begins when she escapes and they find the farmhouse. Then it turns into a laughably enjoyable slasher flick. I suggest this movie to anyone who enjoys slasher, dark comedy, and/or Brit films. If you like Shaun of the Dead give this movie a try. (No zombies, though, sorry.)
