White Oblivion

Snow-colored blinding whiteness. He blinked. White. Too white. Black lines marred the pure white. Still wrong. He kept going at it. He pressed on until tangled black lines finally formed the trunk of a tree, then its branches, naked against the cold wind, the snow resting on them, the few sparrows sitting solemnly at the top, whispering secrets toone another.

The wind took up and he was forced to pull his coat tighter around himself. He yawned softly. His fingers dirtied his coat a little, smudging black here and there. He sighed, Katrin was going to scold him again. Resting his back against the bench he picked up doing what he was doing before.

A bush magically appeared in the scenery, then another one, a trash can covered mostly by snow gave birth to itself next to them and a cat climbed on it, searching for something good to eat. He looked around him for a moment then returned to what he was doing. The lamp post, he shouldn't forget including it. Once it was all there he smilled to himself, relieved almost. He looked at the scenery then his own black and white version of it and his smile widenned.

"Enfin." {finally} he mumbled to himself and closed his eyes, closed his sketchbook and put the single piece of charcoal in its case so it wouldn't dirty anything else. He placed both in his bag -the one sitting next to him on the bench- and cleaned both hands using the towel he carried around just for that purpose. "Que faire maintenant?" {what now?} he questioned, tilting his head back to watch the thick clouds above, drifting peacefully on the darkenned by them sky.

Snowfall. It was beautiful. And it was quiet. And it was rather lonely. Yes. But he was a loner anyway, so little did he care about that.

Kiyoshi was walking through the snow, away from where his Dad was sitting and felt as though he were going to disappear... he was wearing a white coat and between it and his light coloring he felt as though he were about to become one with the white landscape. A bit of a frightening feeling, dizzying, and somehow, strangely he found the idea of being one with everything around him interesting.

It was why he continued forward, trekking through the snow that made him appear to have no feet as he was sinking into the snow a bit.

"Don't get lost!" Hari called after him, "Or... buried! I won't dig you out!" The man was only half serious, mostly because he knew if he actually manage to lose Kiyoshi he would never hear it from his room mate of his room mate's daughter... he refused to refer to her or this one as his kids. They were Baldric's responsibility he only got stuck with the duty of looking after them from time to time.

Kiyoshi turned to walk backward, waving to him to show that he was fine before he gave a squeak, tripping over something in the snow and fell over. The snow caught him, keeping him from getting hurt... and a distance away, upside down from the angle he was at he saw... someone else in the snow. He blinked his silver eyes a couple times before rolling over in the snow to get a better look.

Alin had almost dozed off as he was sitting there, comfortably numb due to the cold which he couldn't feel much right now since he was outside for so long. He had not noticed the other person in the snow until he heard the sound of someone falling. A white person. As white as the snow. Another child. The first person he ever met having white hair at such a young age. Another like himself maybe? He cocked his head to one side, intrigued, it lasted a single moment, just this much, until he remembered the other could have gotten hurt by falling.
He usually didn't give a damn about others, wether they lived or died. They were entities besides his own, entities that should worry for themselves, like he did worry for his own self. It was not his place to worry about them, certaintly not, but still... Something pushed him up from where he was conveniently seated and away from his backpack and personal belongings to walk over to the other person in a fast pace -run almost-, concerned of his weelbeing. It might have been the cold, or that he was feeling good having completed his drawing or maybe it was a faint feeling of kinship towards that other child because of the odd coloration of his hair -and eyes, as he noticed upon comming closer-.

"Tu vas bien? Êtes-vous blessé? Où sont tes parents?" {Are you okay? Are you hurt? Where are your parents?} he spoke quickly before smacking himself. He had spoken in Katrin's mothertongue again. It was the language the two of them used to communicate the most, french, and so it hapenned from time to time, him forgetting to switch to japanese in order to talk with others. Mentally smacking himself he heaved a small sigh of exasperation directed back to himself and directed his words to the other boy again.
"Omu... watashi o imi suru... satesate anata haarimasuka ?" {Uhm... I mean... are you alright?} he asked, leaning down to look closer at the other. His tone of voice was not exactly concerned, he usually spoke in a quite blunt manner, but at least it was quite gentle, as in being careful not to scare the other away.

Kiyoshi sat up slowly as the other boy approached him, looking a little embarrassed by the fact that he had fallen over like that... in front of someone as well. His Dad was bad enough but this person seemed quite concern which made the milk pocky boy's cheeks only get that much brighter.

His silver eyes got wide as he heard the other speaking word he didn't understand, the first thing he asked and the second thing he asked were... different, ask though he had tried two different languages in asking his question. Kiyoshi blinked a couple of times, dazed. He wasn't sure what the other boy was saying but... he sounded concerned so he gave him a smile and got up to his feet, trying to brush away the snow that clung to him.

"Its alright, the snow caught me." He explained, hoping that if nothing else his tone of voice would assure this boy that he was fine. He brushed a bit more of the snow before pointed at him, "I'm Kiyoshi." He would feel foolish if it turned out that this boy knew the language he was using on top of the other two he knew but... best to be careful in case he didn't.

English... right... the one tongue spoken almost everywhere around the world. He remembered having read about this somewhere.
He sighed, pulling five frozen-cold fingers through his hair -he never wore any gloves seeing how they only acted as an obstacle in him drawing or doing mostly anything-.

"This is good." he mumbled, his accent just slightly weird, since he had started to grow accustomed to that as well -being home tutored by his mother and all-. Well... that was the tough luck of moving around so much without settling in one place, not that it was his fault. After all ... he was... he was pretty new...

Bending down to look at the other better he somehow managed to lose his footing and drop face-first into the snow himself. Damn the frozen ground for that, for one, plus his shoes that were not that suited for that kind of terrain. He sighed, blushing a bit in embarassment. He shook his head making the snow that had gotten on his hair fall around in thin flakes.
"I..." he trailed off. "I'm Alin." he finally said. He sighed for yet another time -he did this a lot when stressed or under pressure of any kind-, he really, honestly have not spoken to anyone appart Katrin in a while, seeing how he rarelly even got outside and everything.. he just didn't know if he had that something that attracted people to other people, after all most kids avoided him before Katrin and he moved here, they thought he was weird, which thing he was.. at least a little.

Kiyoshi let out a squeak of surprise when the new boy seemed to hit the same, slippery patch of snow that he had and fell down into it, "OH! Are you alright?" He asked, sounding quite worried even though he had just been through the same experience and came through it just fine.

Not a moment after the other boy seemed to be dragging himself free of the snow, shaking it off... which caused the milk pocky boy to relax. He seemed to have made it through the fall just fine, that was good, "Its nice to meet you Alin." At least now they were on even footing he decided, both of them having them not-so-graceful moment in front of each other.

Kiyoshi held a hand out to the other boy, offering him help up if he needed it.

Alin smiled a little taking the white-haired boy's hand to allow him to help him up. He had a calming voice, he noticed and mentaly shrugged at the idiocy of it, seeing how he was the only person, probably, that noticed such minor things as the hues of voices. He heaved a small sigh, cleaning the snow from his clothes with small, quick movements of his hand. Once done -it didn't take him more than a couple moments- he looked over at Kiyoshi again, as if studying him. He knew most people thought he was just rude because he always stared. He just wanted to make sure he would store everything away safely in his memory. This way he would not forget. He didn't care if others wouldn't remember... as long as he could. He could lay his memory on the papers next, draw it in shades of black, darker than what life was, or maybe depicting the real colors of it so much better than one would have expected.

Reaching his hand out his brushed off some snow from Kiyoshi's shoulder then quickly withdrew his hand and looked away, unsure of the fact if he should be so straightforward. He always seemed to drown in such trivial things even if he was still just a child. It was stupid and yet it was but another part of him. One had good and bad sides, all making them complete by overlapping and entwining together. However if one was to directly ask him, Alin would shake his head and claim there was basically nothing good to him. Even if that wasn't true and Katrin herself made sure to remind him whenever it would come to that. It was just the way they had to move twice and his life... the life before Katrin... that had made him grow prematurely... not that this was a good thing... sometimes he still had episodes.

"Uhm..." he mumbled awkwardly unsure of what to talk about. "You... are not lost, are you?" he asked. "Is zere someone you came with?" he trailed off, his accent slipping a little despite his tries to keep it in place. "I... I can walk you home if you need..." he added hastily.

Kiyoshi starred back at the other boy, curious as to what he was thinking about... the silence was comfortable enough and it gave the milk pocky time to look the other boy over. He was pretty he thought to himself and they shared similar coloring which amused Kiyoshi to no end. Hair and eyes both were pretty close though Alin's skin was much darker then his.

He gave a little smile when the other boy helped him to brush away the snow that was still clinging to him in places after his fall, "No, not lost. Came to play in the snow." He explained quite fascinated by all of it. It was beautiful really even if he felt like he would disappear into it if he stood still to long. He turned then, lifting a gloved hand to point to where a man with reddish colored hair was sitting some distance away on another bench.

"That's my Dad, hes keeping an eye on me." Hard to tell from this far but the man was really watching, was just unfazed by the fact that Kiyoshi was talking to random kids. After all it wasn't as though Alin were some strange adult that he had to worry about.

Alin nodded and looked away. He didn't know what to talk about, what he should talk about. What was he supposed to say? He never had much to do with people, he felt uneasy being around others though that came as no surprise. Heaving a deep sigh he clammed up in himself, not wanting to think anymore. He was cursed with having a brilliant mind, a mind that merely by existing killed him ever since that time.

"Yep, it'll be fine. I'll keep an eye on you so don't worry!" the cheerful voice echoed in the empty park.
"Okay..." the reply came off slowly, as if Alin's self of six years ago was unsure of himself.
"You never talk much" the other male noted teasingly while nudging him slightly.
"No I don't, sorry..." again, the answer came off as if Alin was simply trying to get off the hook.
"It's nothing to worry about, yes?" A hand wrapped itself around his shoulders and he leaned closer to the other person.

Then he found himself drowning.

Alin could feel it comming, that wave of nausea that turned his insides into a tight knot and tormented him so. It was an awful, a really awful feeling. But he had to stop it, for he didn;t want to come off as strange to a person that didn't know him. He wrapped himself better in his coat and hid his stare underneath sliver bangs.

"Do you come here often?" he forced himself to ask in the most steady voice he could. He had to take his mind off of that before he had an attack. He didn't want this, damnit, he wanted to forget. He had to distract himself, just had to. And if all he had on that moment was this strange white-haired child, then he would play the ******** Q&A game already, the one he hated the most.

Kiyoshi was oblivious to the goings on in Alin's mind, though he did look a little concerned as the other boy looked a little... ill. He gave him a smile and before shaking his head, "No, I am kinda new to all things." He explained, not having been born all that long ago, just a few months, "I think... this is my second time at the park. Its a little nicer today then last time."

He gave a shiver just thinking about it. The snow was around today but it wasn't blowing so hard that it was blinding, he didn't have to worry about getting to cold or getting lost. As though to make sure of this he looked over to where his Dad was sitting, waiting and watching... so long as he was there Kiyoshi felt safe.

"What about you?" He asked, figuring it was only polite to turn the question back around for Alin to answer in turn.

"New to things?" Alin blinked at the question. What did the boy mean, really? Why did he mean by 'new'? That helped him sidetrack a little from the grim reality of his thoughts. He heaved a sigh and tapped his fingers together not to let them get numb. It was okay, it was going to be okay, he tried to calm himself down. Alright, just fine. Take a deep breath, a deep breath, count to ten. But ultimately, it wasn't really okay.

He pulled his cellphone from his pocket and nervously looked at it, looked at the time. A part of him wanted to do what it always did and run away. He wanted to run away, yes, but he couldn't run away, couldn't lock himself up. It was unfair. Unfair for himself. Unfair for that younger child that resembled him so much in appearance. Unfair for all the trouble Katrin had been through.

"I..." Alin trailed off unsure of what to say. In the end he decided to merely be honest with the other. "I rarely leave the house at all." he admitted. "I am... my relationships with people..." he didn't know how to state it but neither did he feel like phrasing it. What person actually speaks of things like that?
"I don't like being with other people." he finally stated while looking away. "So, no... I don't really come here often.I came to draw a picture..." he explained.

Kiyoshi gave a nod of his head, "Ah, yes. I came into the world not long ago." He explained, tilting his head to the side as he thought about it, it was near the end of December now... and he'd been born toward the beginning of November, "I'm about... two months old now." Saying it out loud sounded strange but it was the truth of things... he had no idea if the other boy would believe him since it seemed like such a strange story. Then again most of the children of Gaia were strange from what he'd gathered from his Daddy's stories of those he'd met so far.

The milk pocky boy's eyes got quite wide at Alin's words, "O-Oh... I-I'm sorry, I must be bothering you..." He said, lifting his hands to try to hide the flush that brightened his cheeks when the other boy told him that he didn't like being with other people... and here he was being so bothersome to him, trying to force conversation.

"I can... leave you alone to draw if you would rather." He murmured quietly, feeling a little silly now.

Alin blinked. "Y-You look older..." he trailed off. Of all things he never expected to hear 'two months old'. Not that the world wasn't a new thing to himself. Most of his early years were consumed into nothingness and darkness. At the orphanage they had estimated his age as fourteen to sixteen. Even so he didn't remember those years at all. The therapist he was seeing had said it was because he had pushed those memories into his subconscious because they were too traumatic. Alin couldn't say. Really, how worse could it become than what hapenned back then?

Alin mentally smacked himself, he didn't mean it that way, however... it wasn't like it wasn't totally true. Being there made him uneasy but it wasn't as bad. Reaching out to pull the boy's hands away from his face he tried to smile the best he could. He didn't mind, he decided. He could try, like Katrin said. He couldn't be negative towards evreyone for the rest of his life. And this was, somehow, rather true too.

"I don't mind your company." he spoke, still smiling. Of all the people he had met so far, this one was certaintly the most timid, but maybe this was a good thing, for Alin at least.

Kiyoshi gave a little giggle, "Really? Cool. I will take that as a compliment." He wished he was older then he was, would be cool to be older because that meant being taller... being so short had many disadvantages.

His flush seemed only to get deeper when Alin reached out to take hold of his hands, drawing them away so he wasn't hiding behind them anymore. His eyes widened a bit as the other boy told him that he didn't mind his company then gave a happy smile, "Really? Good... I don't want to be bothersome. So long as its alright I would like to hang out with you a bit longer."

Alin was so nice, so pretty! Kiyoshi couldn't help but want to stay near to him for as long as Dad let him.

Alin adopted a thoughtful posture, placing a finger over his lips. "Growing older, certaintly has its pros." he decided "You get to do things you weren't allowed to before and no one complains if you return home after sunset or if you are not in the mood to eat dinner..." he shrugged. "Then again it also means you get to have more responsibilities and less time for you and your friends, right?" he smiled a little. He felt like he could open up, just a bit, if nothing. "I say, let's just grow up in time, no earlier or later, right?"

He almost flinched at his own words. He hadn't talked to anyone like this in a while, he usually tried to avoid giving his opinnion on things. That was something that could make you vulnerable, after all an opinnion isn't as solid as facts, one is under the danger of being laughed upon or even worse taken advantage of someone who can expose the vulnerable spots of one point of view. Not that all people where like that, of course... but an animal that has been abused by a human won't aproach another human out of instict again, and while Alin's situation was rather different it did bear some similarities to that.

"I know!" Alin said, picking his cellphone out. I'll give you my phone number and you can give me yours too if you want. This way you can call me anytime you feel like hanging out, right? I live pretty close by too so it shouldn't be a problem..." and there he was talking and talking and talking, as if someone had just lifted a weight off his shoulders, off his chest and he could go back to being normal, back to the way things were a long time ago.

He took a scrap of paper out of his pocket and quickly scribbled his phone number on it, copying it from the small, lit LCD screen of his cellular. Holding the piece of paper out to Kiyoshi he blushed a little. Wasn't he rushing things...? He became anxious at the thought. He became so excited all of a sudden, he should have known better than expressing his feelings openly, and yet...
