Okay, so doing a pair project on an animal and its environment shouldn't be that hard right? You could pick whatever you wanted and could present it how you liked...so why was she so annoyed right now? The library.

Let's meet in the library! Sure, that had seemed simple enough yesterday. But now that she had walked through half of the Liberty Center's grounds Riley was certain either the library did not exist or it was hidden underground like some sort of secret ******** library!" she grumbled, "No one likes books anway." She slouched across the yard past a few more trees, because following sidewalks was for squares, and glowered at the next building she saw. In fact, she didn't read its sign at first, automatically assuming it was against her and was not what she was looking for.

But something must have caught her attention because she did give the place a second look. At the giant fool-proof sign she brightened.

"Bout time," she said, nearly giving the sign a kick before jumping up the stairs and slipping inside. Hopefully she wouldn't get lost inside too.

Lucky for Riley, her designated partner seemed to have a sixth sense about the other girl's feelings about the library and Delilah stood just within the doors. A trendy, slim black briefcase dangled from one hand and she seemed completely neutral over the lateness and Riley's madcap arrival. All she did was nod a bit and bring the briefcase up to hold over her chest. She had grown quite a bit since Riley had last interacted with her.

"You'd think you were carrying top secret documents in there, the way you're hold'n it," Riley commented towards Delilah's briefcase. She hadn't brought anything at all. Just herself and passable clothing in the department of appropriateness. The library had books right? She didn't really think about the fact that she might need some basic supplies. Whatever.

"So what's up, Del?" she asked, almost as if she had completely forgotten their purpose there. Which wouldn't have been surprising if this was a place she came to regularly. But it's alien nature was a reminder in itself that, yes, this was school. Schoolwork, the bane of the existance of fun.

Delilah eyed the other girl with barely concealed concern; clearly, she was starting to worry about her partner's ability to work. "I'm fine," she answered. "How are you? Do you have an animal in mind for our project?"

It was usually common knowledge that schoolwork and Riley did not get along, unless she could be riled up enough to feel she had something to prove. Usually, however, that wasn't the case, since few seemed to use that tactic. She certainly didn't seem to be in that mindset now.

"Hmmm?" she asked, at first seeming as if she had forgotten the project all together, "Oh! Not really...I mean, come on, there are a lot of cool animals...like crocodiles and tigers and sharks and..." Typical she'd mention all the ones with sharp teeth.

"How about we do our project on leopards?" Delilah suggested, interrupting the other girl mildly. She could already see this was going to be a trial and a half. "They're interesting. Very beautiful and dangerous."

Leopards didn't seem nearly as fierce as sharks or man-eating snakes but...she supposed they'd do well enough. She shrugged widely, before agreeing with passive enthusiasm, "Alright, I guess that works."

"They're in the jungle, right?" she asked, finding she had very little knowledge of the subject when she thought of it. It wasn't as easy as going: duh, lion, Africa. All she knew was that they didn't live here. At least, not in the wild.

"Yes, in Africa mostly." Delilah motioned for Riley to follow her as she lead the way towards the computers which housed the databanks of books. "I think they can be found here and there other places, though. They're in a lot of trouble." Her back to Riley, the other girl could not see the sour twist to Delilah's mouth as she added, "Humans have ruined a lot of the places they live."

Riley followed automatically, though she she had very little interest in this report, the datebase, or anything else. Her listening to Delilah was an after thought more than anything. Sure, some animals were really cool and got her excited, but not usually in detail. She'd never watch all those boring parts on animal planet about raising cubs or finding a den or whatever...no, her favorite parts were territory battles or hunts and the like. So, too much information and her ADD mind started to wander.

"They're in trouble?" she parroted, vaguely curious. Her spark of interest game from the thought of some epic, widescale problem that had the leopards fighting tooth and nail for their lives.

"Quite a bit of trouble." Delilah managed to bite back her sigh with great effort and she paused at a table beside the computer terminals. "Why don't you sit here and think of how you want to present this?" she suggested, indicating the table. "I'll go to that computer," she pointed at the one no more than three feet off, "and pull up some books we can find and use."

She still wasn't sure what she had done to deserve someone who was clearly going to stick her with all of the project's work. She would have to ask the teacher.

Riley flopped into a chair with a wrinkle of her nose. Well, someone was being a fun killer today. Del was acting worst than the adults often did; monatone and boring. s**t, was she sick or something? She blew at one of the bangs covering her eyes, put off. Del's lack of response had killed her curiousity about the leopards.

She bet even Liam would be more fun to work with.

She tried to focus on a way to present the project that might be interesting...but all she kept thinking about was how boring this was turning out to be. She doubted a powerpoint or something was going to change that.

"I wonder," came Del's soft voice, breaking into Riley's sulk, "if there's any way to get a leopard for the presentation." She was looking intently at the computer screen so it was hard to tell if she was joking or not.

Riley visably perked, ears and all. Get a dangerous man eating leopard for their presentation? That would be awesome. She immediately snatched out her cellphone and held the speed dial on the number 4. When the other line picked up she blurted expectantly, "Hey Liam, where do you get a leopard?"

The other line was silent for a moment before a flat response asked, "We aren't allowed pets in the apartment complex."

"Not a pet silly! For our project," Riley scoffed taking the time to lean back in her chair while passing Del a sideways glance.

Delilah merely smiled faintly, a bit slyly even, and scribbled down a few more things on the paper next to the computer. Then she tapped the keyboard to reset the database to the home page and sauntered over to sit across from Riley at the table. Idly, she twirled a piece of her bright hair around one finger.

"Google traveling animal performances," Liam replied dryly, "Sometimes you can pay them to do private shows. Otherwise, check the registration database. Those that own them privately here have to have a permit."

"Okay than-" her brother hang up before she could finish. She shrugged, pushing her phone down onto the table as it shut off and she grinned wildly at Del. "Well, we better start search'n! Liam gave us some places to check out. Maybe we can find something." It was that or rob the zoo...which sounded harmless enough in her head, away from reality.
