I guess this is a pretty good move. O'Sullivan started out the season pretty good, but has gone was downhill since then. JT O'Sullivan has become a turnover machine, and comparable to Rex Grossman.

Shaun Hill isn't that good, but the 49ers are desperate and need some stability and success ASAP. I remind you, that their weak division is still winnable...

Even if the division is winnable, the Niners aren't going anywhere. Hill is accurate, but has no arm. Not good for the Mike Martz offense. The defense has major problems. The offense has problems. Offense can't convert short yardage situation, defense can't stop short yardage. That's maximum failure. Offensive and Defensive line is where the problem starts. Our linebackers are pretty good with Lawson and Willis. Secondary needs new safeties. We really need some kind of wide receiver although Hill and Morgan might develop to be something. Then of course, a quarterback. Haha. We should draft Harrell is we keep Martz as offensive coordinator. Lol.

Lol, O'sullivan did throw 11 interceptions, that's rediculous, even if it was on the receivers part.

This move will greatly improve the 49ers whole team. Hill won't take as many sacks or commit as many turnovers as O'Sullivan and he will convert more 3rd downs because he is smarter. That will keep the offense on the field longer and not keep the defense on the field for 35 minutes a game, playing in the shadow of their own goalposts for most of that, which will make them better. The 49ers should go at least 4-4 in the second half of the season

Starting Hill at QB is the right move, but I doubt that it will "greatly improve" the 49ers as a team. Their defense is still struggling and their committing turnovers. Also, Hill will take just about as many sacks, because pass protection starts with the offensive line. Anyways, 4-4 sounds pretty reasonable. A weak division, but they're playing tough opponents on their non-divisional schedule.

I dont know... O'Sullivan seems like the future of the 49ers from my point of view, I'd prefer to lose games with O'Sullivan but get him some experience, but then again Hill is not that old, the thing is, yeah, the 49ers can win their weak division, but what are they gonna do in playoffs? Its like the thing with the vikings, Tarvaris Jackson did play horrible, but hes the future of the team, and learning from Gus? he might be a veteran, but hes not a great veteran, young QBs should get more chancesn these days.

And now, to contradict myself we have Aaron Rodgers who became the starter QB after being 3 years behind Favre, hes doing damn awesome, and I think thats because he was able to learn from Favre for 3 years.

But your explanations are pretty lopsided, based on these QB situations. At 29 years old, JT O'Sullivan isn' really a young quarterback, and he can't learn much more from his mediocrity. Maybe not forcing the ball, and to hold onto the football differently to reduce the amount of fumbles, but that's just about it. Anyways, Shaun Hill isn't that good of a QB at all, so the learning curve will be very shallow in this case. Tavaris Jackson, on the other hand, is still pretty young, and can learn a lot. Frerotte is a better QB than anyone the 49ers currently has anyways. Also, Aaron Rodgers was able to learn a lot from Favre, because Brett was among the best QBs in the history of the NFL. Of course he'd learn a ton from him. Do notice that Rodgers has a better supporting cast on offense than the 49ers as well.

My bad, somehow I thought that O'Sullivan was 22or 23, but you are totally right, darn, Ive been expecting so much about O'Sullivan, didnt know he was 29 rofl Wonder where I got that idea.

O'Sullivan - Journeyman, been on 8 different teams never starting until he reached the Niners.
Hill - Backup for six years with his first start late last year.

Yeah.....

As for the sacks thing, Hill won't be sacked as much as O'Sullivan. Watch the Niners play. O'Sullivan holds the ball way tooooo long with that bad offensive line. He tries to make plays and he sucks. Hill will throw the ball quicker. He won't hold it as long which will reduce sacks.

Shaun Hill is about the same age as O'Sullivan. Both aren't very good, so their futures will probably be limited for the 49ers. It also may be a bit too late to develop Alex Smith as a good NFL quarterback. With the injuries and lack of success in the past, it's finally time to consider him a bust.

Don't know about this season or next, but it's probably time for San Francisco to start looking towards the draft and player market for their next franchise QB.

I already knew it was to late to develop Alex Smith after his rookie season.

Alex Smith is still very young. He's only 24. Still very young. He can develop into a good quarterback given the chance. Norv Turner helped that. Then Hostler was just.... stupid... That really put Smith back in his development.

Anyway, Alex Smith won't be back with the Niners. They've already said if he's not the starter by the end of the season, he's not going to be back. Seeing as how he's in IR, it's impossible for him to get his job back. He'll have to do it with some other team.

Wow, I never knew about that. Didn't know the Niners would dump him after this season, if he wasn't the starter. San Fran will be taking a lot of heat when they release him, though...

Anyways, I don't know many teams that will take a chance on Alex Smith. Injuries and unsuccessful outings...
