Ok, here's the concept. I bought a small, (3X5) bright red book with no writing on the spine or cover, and all blank pages.
I'm going to leave that book in the library at my college, in some shelving somewhere. On the first few pages, I'm going to write something along the lines of,
RULES: If you have opened this book, you must write something in it. You may write or draw anything you want. When you are finished writing, place the book back on another shelf. Do not hide the book; it hides in plain sight by being a book in a library. Do not remove this book from the library. You may not keep this book.
I'll include on the next page suggestions for what to write, as well as an entry of my own. Use it to doodle, as a journal, to make an observation, to ask a question, to confess a crime, to proclaim your love for someone, etc.
So. I may or may not see if I can get a security thingie implanted in the book so people can't take it out of the library, but I don't know if that's a good idea. I kinda want it to be a sort of secret, but I kinda want to make sure I can find it again at some point.
So. I need a title. I need something to write on the spine of the book that encompasses the concept of the book and makes you want to pick it up and see what it's about.
The ideas I have are the following: THIS IS NOT A BOOK. THE UNBOOK THIS BOOK DOES NOT EXIST DO NOT READ THIS BOOK
OR I might leave the spine blank and write something on the cover. Would a small, bright red book with nothing written on the spine and no library catalogue thingy catch your attention enough to pick it up?
I'd like some ideas from you guys, as well as some ideas on how to track the book and what to do with it. What title would you pick up? What would you write? What do you think about this? What do you think people would write? Do you think people would be respectful of the book? What can come of this?

Hooray! You made a topic about it. :'D
:for some reason thinks death note:
Uh, (THIS BOOK DOES NOT EXIST) = The Book That Never Was?
I thought a bright white book would also work.
I'd put it in one of the high traffic areas of the library.
I'm sure there's always someone who'd do something bad, but that's just a chance to take. Maybe they'd turn it into a librarian and they'd "WTF" and catalog it. XD

Well... if you can get one IN, you could get a security tag from any retail store...
Just ask the cashier not to deactivate the tags in the stuff you're buying, or something... Works better in small stores, where you won't be messing up teh "flow of business" or so. o.o
But, it's a VERY interesting idea..
Heck, you might be able to go ahead and let the people running the library know... They could help in throwing the book in random places, putting a security tag on it (so you don't have to buy something at a store for one o.o) Claim it's a psychology research project or something if you want... o_o
But yeah... interesting! I likes the idea! ^_^

Yeah, if you say it's a thing for school, they'll probably be more willing to help. You should title it something that makes it seem like it's forbidden, because then everyone will want to take it.

I'd read a book if it were titled, "Book of "HIDDEN" Secrets". Then I'd draw a stick person, because I can't really draw, and my handwriting leaves much to be desired. sweatdrop

I would write an idiosyncrasy. And THIS BOOK IS SUPER SECRET AND JUST FOR YOU maybe? or something.
Awesome idea. It'll probably go in a direction no one would have suspected and probably also end up wonderful. Probably wouldn't be too respectful of it but if you get lucky and enough people find it it'll be a bit more protected and also in worse danger. I think since no one really hardcore goes to a library it will probably be okay.
This book does not exist is my favorite of those.

I would totally notice a book like that. (Working at a library will do that to you.) I'd let it be. Hell, I'd contribute. You could call it The Secret Book of Secrets. xd

If I saw I book like that I'd definitely pull it out and take a look. Very nice.
