yes a Challenge. this challenge is to make a language that has NO consonants. that is the first challenge.

second challenge will be making a con language for an animal (evolved animal of course such as a biped humanoid cat or something)

third and final make a language based on any element!

these are just ideas and I am already doing such. its a good way to build your skills I think^_^

I'm taking on your challenge as a side-project. ninja

I'm curious as to how the evolved animal language would turn out... What kind of language do you think it'd end up as? Say, for a snake, it would be filled with S's?

I have done some research on the anatomy of the snake, and if it was ever to be able to speak a language the tongue would have to evolve as well. though the language would still need to have some sort of trait to their previous way of life yes, including the need to evolve a way to hear in the first place.

I always imagined a snake language more based on the th sounds (from THanks) than a S sound.

so a sample of what I might think the snake language would sound like would be this.:

Zdraveth neom chovest krivoth nenith zadruvenem.
(no translation)

now the snake would have to grow a humanoid body which still being cold blooded would make it a very unique species. though I do think your idea with the S sounds would be a very interesting language and would like to see what you come up with!!

I just made a language for a mice people>_< (tiny little humanoid mice things! so cute>_
well here is some of the language

Tsitsi caruku camenaui tse, tatsi leratsu farunami ne.
kitutsui camintse gacitsalu fei, litsu pip yontsu latsi ta de.

its a little song sung by the children, the translation is difficult due to the irregular grammar and the difficult way of pronouncing every little vowel and other combination of letters.

a easy and rather pathetic translation would be:

"we climb and dig, walk and run.
every little thing we do, is all for fun!

it is not the exact litteral translation but I hope you get the point^_^

Hmm. Well. I have too many languages already to begin another. Although it is tempting. xD

How would a ferret speak? ninja

I tried to start a simple conlang for a songbird once. It had a few consonants (not sure how they pronounced those) and two clicks, used contour and register tones instead of vowels, had accents (the musical type), and had several different tone lengths. Later I decided that wasn't good enough and tried to create a full musical language with the 12-tone scale while keeping the tone length, stress/accents, and clicks from the previous idea. It never got anywhere, but I want to try again... It was kind of hard to create words without a musical instrument though. Maybe someone with perfect pitch could try?
