Not that kind of llama... Today I went to listen to the Dalai Lama (sp?) speak and encountered my first religious fanatics. The first one had a megaphone with a sign that said: "JESUS NEEDS YOU John 3:18" (Not what that verse says, by the way...) on one side, and the other "REPENT: FORNICATORS SODOMITES SPORTS FANATICS BABY-KILLERS" And then cited some verse, don't remember which.
Some guy was having a shouted sarcastic exchange with him; it was a bit amusing. In the end, the Christian zealot yelled out, "There's been thousands of lamas, but only one Christ!" Er... actually, this is the fourteenth dalai lama, I'm pretty sure...
When my mom called me after, she asked if I fit into any of the categories (because she had said, "that's pretty much everyone!"), I said I was a future baby killer. (Unlikely, but that's the category of "should-be repenters" I am most passionate about.)
There were more Christian zealots further down, with an actual microphone and speaker and stuff, and bigger signs. I didn't stop to read it.
Don't get me wrong. I am a Christian, but these people who takes things to the extreme and twist the Bible and Jesus' preachings to fit their ideas sicken me. They preach hate instead of love, which is the exact opposite of what Christ wanted.
But the Dalai Lama was really amazing. Needed subtitles kind of (mostly because of the echo--it was held in a football stadium), but what I did hear from his speech, he's a very enlightened man. Makes sense since he's lived spiritually for thousands of years, apparently. But he talked about how parents are the best teachers, how his mother taught him about compassion more than anyone else, how all nuclear weapons should be destroyed, how all problems we face today are man-made (and generally not woman-made xD) so we must be able to solve them. As an opening to his holiness' speech, a few other people (including a local Native American chief) gave brief messages, one of which being some advocate for foster kids (William C. Bell, I think...), and how each adult should help one foster child for one year and the world would be a better place, that that's the greatest way to use your compassion. My friend turned to me and said she really wanted to do that, but it was too bad we would be only a few years older than most of the foster kids.
If you ever get the opportunity to go hear the Dalai Lama speak, GO. He is an amazing speaker--even has a sense of humor!
Anyway: This was about fanatical zealots (what other kind is there?), baby killers and fornicators and the rest of the lot, the Dalai Lama, varying religious beliefs, and foster kids. So discuss whichever.

"Connect the dots"? You've got to be kidding me. Even the FOX people think it's disgusting and ridiculous.
And God, is her smile creepy as hell.
Oh, but now as I get farther into it... it's just because she was brainwashed as a child by her parents. I mean, how can you not turn out utterly dreadful like that when your father teaches you that Jews are "the real Nazis" and "an abomination"?! And they're dragging even more children into this! Lord, save them, please.

The only annoying thing about the Dhali Lama is the fact that if Tibet does indeed get their country back and all that s**t, the way that their religion works, the warrior-monks will rule the country in a semi-feudalistic way while the rest of the people there live in poverty and must pay money and goods to keeping the Dhali Lama and his group in the best of living conditions.
Of course, it's not exactly great over there right now for anyone, but I thought I should mention that fact, since not many people know much about the Dhali Lama beyond the 20/20 interviews and the media hype.
RE: stupid Christian zealots: Personally, I think it would be much better if people simply understood that screaming and yelling like an idiot only makes THEM look like idiots and that doesn't say much for the religion that THEY are representing.
Come on guys, God isn't going to be too happy that you made him look like a fool with no life.

Even when I was once a christian, I felt like there could be no better testimony than being a *good* example.
To me, that idea has passed on. Practice being a decent person. That is a greater testimony of compassion and ethical living when people can observe you instead of you talking about it. Obviously, I have screwed up here and there over that. Doesn't mean I can't learn from it and move on.
Things would be very different if people practiced by example.
And yea Oni I see what you mean too. That Tibet rule still wasn't that ethical.. but maybe it can be reformed if they can get back to it..

Didn't 90-plus percent of all sexually active Americans have their first sexual experience before marriage? They're all dead, guys. Sodom got destroyed a long time ago. Lawl. Nayva Don't get me wrong. I am a Christian, but these people who takes things to the extreme and twist the Bible and Jesus' preachings to fit their ideas sicken me. They preach hate instead of love, which is the exact opposite of what Christ wanted. Reminds me of the "Jesus was (a bleeding-heart, long-haired, peace-loving, anti-establishment, liberal hippie freak with strange ideas) Everything Conservatives Hate" pic. Also: JesusIsALiberal.org
