Since the end of the NFC championship game loss to the Giants, many Green Bay Packer fans, and the team for that matter, waited to see if the 38 year old great, Brett Favre will come back for one more season, or retire.

That wait has ended, as Favre finally made the decision, and announced that he will retire after 17 years in the NFL.

I wish Brett the best of luck, and a happy retirement. You had a great career, and will go down as one of the greatest Quarterbacks ever to play the game.

No question about it. It's a sad day for the Packer fans, but he's led them through thick and thin and was still standing.

As mentioned on 1st and 10, though, there is some suspicion about the timing. He was pushing strong for the Pack to sign Moss as few as two days ago and now he retires? Hmm...........

Either way, he's still had a heck of a career. Best wishes!

I HATE MY LIFE.
I lit a bunch of candles and wore my Favre jersey for half the day...
I have to switch to black 'cause I have work. Jerks won't let me wear non-unionized attire. Bastards.

Let the mourning begin...

He was an exciting player, and made memories for all fans of the great sport we know and love as football. He deserves to make this decision. I also feel that if he decides he's not done two days before the season opens he will be the starting QB in Green bay. If thats not the case I think he could make a comeback later down the road (i know thats highley unlikely).

Good job Brett! Enjoy retirement.

...A very unexpected event, but his presence will live on forever.

Everybody remembers Favre, one way, or another. One of the greatest NFL players of our time. A sure Hall of Famer on the first ballot. An iron man who is all for winning with his team. A great character on and off the field. An extremely hard worker. A record holder for many categories. Sad to see his great 17 year career come to a close, but I wish him the best.

Favre gave people many memories, and was the face of the NFL, as the true athlete. Many people look up to him, and will be fond of what he's done to our sport.

...Some rule out a comeback into the NFL, and so do I. He's serious, and I do not think he will make a return. But this isn't the last of Favre. You will probably see him as either a coach or NFL football analyst or broadcaster in the near future.

Not to take away from the topic of Brett Favre retiring, but here's another retirement announced today. Warren Sapp has made his retirement official after 13 years in the NFL.

True, after the season finale against the Chargers he said in an interview, "I'm done" But it wasn't made official until today.

Reminds me of the old Favre/Sapp rivalry. I'm sure many people remember the old NFC central division when Tampa Bay and Green Bay were division rivals, and Brett had to face Sapp and the Buccaneers twice a year. Those two really had a love/hate rivalry going on till the re-alignment.

Haha, yes! Favre won't be picking apart the Vikings defense anymore!

As for Warren Sapp, sucks to see him go, but he definately let us know he was ready to retire with the last couple of seasons.

But what you say Sapp did, saying season after season that he may retire, just hurts the franchise and the GM, not to select rookies in the draft or obtain the most strategic replacements in free agency.

I meant the downward spiral in his playing ability.

Maybe this year, but he played at a pretty high level the previous year. No real downward spiral was evident, because he, like Favre, retired unexpectedly.

From the time he was on the Bucs to now, he's shown his age.
