I got my bass last Christmas, and I like it a lot, but I get a little dicouraged because a lot of the songs I like are too complicated at first. But then there are some mad easy songs out there that build your confidence that you can learn in like five minutes.
Know any such songs?
Here are a few mad easy songs that you can learn even if you've just touched a bass for the first time:
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals (super easy) Roxanne - The Police (waaaaay easy) The Freshman - The Verve Pipe (I feel like a 12 year old girl playing this) Chick Magnet - MxPx (somewhat complicated, compaired to the other 2) The Ballad of John and Yoko - The Beatles (this one makes my pinky hurt) The Good Life - Weezer (the most complicated song of the bunch, but I had it down after a few hours of practice - after I learned how to tune down my bass that is)
Beatles songs are fun to learn/play, but some of them are really complicated (by my standards, at least). Like "Something"...wtf? One day, man, one day.
So yeah, any other good songs I should learn? I'm kind of stuck in a funk.

I don't know if you are into them but most of Green Day's songs are easy to get down. Although the older ones are almost all in drop D tuning.. And it's picking, so if you have been playing with your fingers it may be harder to get used to.
Oh yeah, and anything by Blink 182.. Because my cat can play bass better then Mark Hoppus. So they're easy to play.. but suck a**. So don't play them.

Try the Beatles song "Come together" It's simple, but you play it for five minutes or so. Keep practicing till you can do it without screwing up once, then throw in some funk.

In all honesty, Beatles is the easiest thing to get. Especially if you start off with 'Yesterday.' Try some Keane, 'somewhere only we know.' Or for something super easy, try out Feel Good Inc. by The Gorillaz. That's just repitition. But the correct tabbed out version is this:
Drop all strings by a half step G---------------------------------- D-----------9-8-6--6-9-8--------- A--6-6-8-9---------------9-6(/12) (Slide every other time you repeat.) E----------------------------------- And then repeat till right before the first time chorus-ish thing is sung (Windmill, windmill for the land...)
then it goes like this (And only this time):
G------------------ D------------------ A------------------ E--8-7-6-4-1-1-1-
Then it goes back to all notes played on the A and D strings. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to learn. But if you don't like tuning things down a half step, what I would suggest, is playing each note a fret down from the tabbing that I have provided. It's pretty accurate, and not many other places include the tab for the part right before the first chorus-ish thing.
I hope this helps you out. And if it only confused you... well I'm sorry...

The Amazing Mr. Tommyos! Twelve bar blues, baby. Easy, fun, and recgnizable.(my spelling sucks) I gotta say, since I learnt how to play that its awsome. Because it gave me the ability to play with some other cats who are more accomplished musicians, and was loads of fun.
