As an atheist, I'm just wondering... What gender is God? I've heard people say that God doesn't have a gender, and I've heard people say God is a male.
What do you think?

The Bible never really says he has a gender. although it does refer to him as a him....so if we were to go off that basis he's male. he refers to himself as the Father and that earthly fathers are supposed to be an example of the heavenly father. so with all evidence it points to him being a male gender. we probably couldn't say he has a sex though concidering he isn't a physical being and has no need for reproduction.

I would assume hes male as well, considering he is called "our father who art in heaven" unless they called females their fathers too for some reason thousands of years ago.
but yeah in actuality he could be genderless
in any event im sure its pretty trivial

The bible never really generalizes what gender God is.
However, in the context of the English language, "God" is generally a guy supremity and a "Goddess" is a female supremity. So it is only natural for a person to beleive God is a male.
In all honesty, I don't think he has a gender~

Isaac742 I think she would be a she. Considering people say she created the worls. ??? I don't get it o_O And also *sorry, I forgot your name* and Trinity, you make a very valid point. In the bible it does refer to Him as our "Heavenly Father" and in many other cases, there are points that we would be able to lable Him as a "male." But, if God was always here, and was never reproduced, he could not have any reproduction items on his body~ So while we may call him a male, I think he is genderless~

Well, God is either male or genderless in my opinion. I mean, to my understanding, we only call Him the Father because that is the closest we can get to defining His relationship to us in our terms. However His gender is not really explicitly stated besides that. Also
Jesus = Male Holy Spirit = Genderless (as far as I know)

God obviously has no gender. The only reason we do is for reproduction. God has no need for a gender. As for the reason we say, Father, Him, God (not goddess) is because back in the day, no man would be subjected to a women, no matter who they were, and humans are to stupid to understand that God could be neither.
Just like where God came from? How can something be there forever? It had to come from somewhere? Right? Well, God is not subjected to time because he actually created time. Before that there was no time, just like he is not subjected to gender.

god created man in his figure, going from that, he has no reason to reproduce, but he has male features, thus why he's called the holy father, and not the holy mother.
or any other thing.

I think the being created in His image refers to us having souls and free will as opposed to being physically like Him.

I think God is beyond gender. He has both female and male characteristics. Though referred to in the Bible as He, Father, etc., He is also described as a "mother hen gathering her chicks underwing". The reason the Bible (and I) refer to Him as male is mostly because He is definitely not an IT! And language and society makes the presumption of male when thinking of authority.

In my opinion, by God saying he created us in His image, means we look like him~ It means he has a homosapian like figure, so he doesn't look like a bird, or any other kind of animal. However, there are certain things we have that he doesn't have, most likely, like our reporductive systems and such~ Just my opinion though!
