I have just witnessed yet another innocent thread die due to the fact that several people in this guild are quite opinionated, and by opinionated, i mean pigheaded. I'm one of them. It's not neccesarily a bad thing to be that sure in what you beleive in, it just has a tendency to lead to problems.

These opinions and strong wills are not a problem until people vocalize them. And the problem doesn't really start until these firm opinions get rebutted by other firm opinions.

The arguing in this guild is starting to become a major problem. Here's my stab at solving it.

1) Know that your opinion is just that, an opinion. It is not a fact and should not be stated as such.

2) A lot of people in this guild are very set in their ways. No amount of arguing is going to change that. At the end, instead of figuring something out, you will both still think you are right and the other person is an a*****e. So why waste the effort?

3) If someone says something you disagree with, you have the right to state your dissenting opinion. After this, both sides have stated their point and further arguing is pointless.

4) After both sides have stated their points, a lot of arguments tend to end up as attacks on people, not ideas. Instead of a debate, we end up slinging mud and calling each other "stupid" or "assholes." There is simply no point to this. It ends up hurting feelings and doesn't prove any point.

5) Lets try to refrain from stupid, pointless comments that tend to start these things, okay?

6) Stay on the topic that the thread is about. If the thread makes you think of something that you want to have a discussion about, have that discussion in it's own thread.

7) Good God, please trim the quote pyramids.

cool Political discussions are okay, but they should have a point and not simply badmouth any party or person. Saying "Bush is an a*****e" or "Liberals are sissies" really accomplishes nothing except pissing people off. If you want to talk about, say, the xth recount of the governor's race, start a thread and talk about it in a civilized matter.

9) Pick your battles. Some people will act like assholes. You don't need to chew out every one every time.

10) Most of all, be civil! There is absolutly NO reason to be negative and hurtful to one another.

People who are a problem are apt to remain a problem. The people who are good will agree with this, but that won't actually improve anything.

That's what I suspect, anyway. It's like trying to get newbies to read the stickies.
