This is a question to those of you who have had abortions.

What was it like?
How did it effect you emotionally?
How did it effect you physically?
Did it hurt?
Did you have any health complication afterwards?

I'd like to know so that in the event that I may need an abortion, I'll kinda know what to expect.

What was it like?
The worst part was the weather, really. Goddamn snowstorm.

How did it effect you emotionally?
It didn't affect me at all. I didn't have to deal with bickering, protesters (it's illegal here, I think), drama, etc. My boyfriend was there the whole time, and we had already discussed the issue two years prior to the incident.

How did it effect you physically?
The local anesthesia affected me more than the abortion itself. They don't let you eat anything for many hours before the appointment, but I still threw up from nausea. Other than that, I went to class the next day as usual.

Did it hurt?
I had a surgical abortion, and it was more uncomfortable than a feeling of "hurt." Two numbing shots to the cervix, followed by the vacuum and some scraping. Having my finger pricked for the blood test bothered me more because it stung and bled so much.

Did you have any health complication afterwards?
Nope, although my breasts temporarily swelled up and leaked fluid as a result of pregnancy hormones going away. The cramping and the bleeding were actually lighter than my usual periods.

I regret to say that I do not remember the name of this girl who wrote a really long, drawn out story about her recent abortion. It was very good, she described the thoughts and feelings she went through. Very relevant for this topic. I feel bad about forgetting her name!!

Does anyone of you older members still remember? Let's link her topic here if we can find her...

That'd be me, Grip ^_^.

I lost the link to my journal or else I'd gladly share. In the meantime, I'll be happy to answer your questions.

What was it like?

Well, it was a very long wait which was nerve-wracking but the nurses and the doctor were very kind and very gentle and stood by me and talked me through the whole thing.

How did it effect you emotionally?

At first I was upset because I had never had any kind of surgery before. I was scared of the procedure itself. I think honestly that you need to come to terms with yourself before stepping foot into the clinic. I do not regret what I did.

How did it effect you physically?

Well, I had very very light bleeding for a couple of days and had to wear pads for my first period after. I couldn't take a bath which aggrivated me. Other than that, I came out 100% complication free. In fact, I felt well enough 2 hours after to go get food and clean my bathroom.

Did it hurt?

Yes and no. It was similar to experiencing mild period cramping. It's not a forceful procedure and the medication you take allows your cerevix to soften. The needles for the local anethesia hurt worse than the abortion itself.

Did you have any health complication afterwards?
No.

Haven't seen ya in a while, thanks for showing up October Cross! Thanks for saving the thread Suteko! Now I vaguely knew the name had "October" in it, I just couldn't put the rest together! XD

I haven't had an abortion yet, so I really can't say much about this thread myself. 3nodding But her thread is definitely a classic in this guild. xd

I haven't had an abortion, but a very close friend of mine did, and I spent much of the day on the phone with her. She had a medical abortion, and went in on a Friday afternoon, I think, and felt mostly normal that whole day, Saturday however she had very painful craps, and was essentially bedridden. I think they gave her prescription painkillers, but it was still pretty painful for her.

I could answer all those questions for childbirth though, surprised
They wouldn't be very positive.

I have never had an abortion, but my mother worked at an abortion clinic before she married and her life fell apart.

According to her, the only sort of screaming was from the lifers on Saturday, and the women who went in to get one came out pretty alright, quite a few even relieved after the procedure was finished. (Try telling that to the chanting ^#$@s outside, though...)
