is there much point in having a goal in life??
i mean, yes, it is nice to know what you are going to do in life.... but, thinking about college and school etc. is there much point to getting good grades??
getting good grades means having a better job but a better job usually means more working hours, so why would we want to have more time working than leisure time??
and we all do die eventually, so why spend life working??
shouldn't we all be having fun instead??
we do only live once....
What do you think??
are goals pointless??

I believe our souls are judged on how much we advanced ourselves and our society. This is our purpose for being here. I have a more detailed description on my site if you feel like reading it.

my goals arent material oriented. the furthest my material goals go is to be sure to be able to pay my rent and bills. devoting 80% of my daily life to my job totally sucks, and I hate it. but that's the way things are and they're not likely to change, so there's no sense in me whining about it. my only real goals.. the big ones.. are to live my life to it's fullest, to be responsible as I do so, and to be the best person I can humanly be. that to me is a full life and one worth living.

I appear material oriented, because I just want enough comfort that I MAY work whereever I want and not HAVE TO work whereerver do not want. A stable life with my girlfriend and something to eat every evening.

And I want to create something historical some day, reminding the world that I existed...

...but that's just me as supremacist, maybe I'll just write a book... >_>

It's funny, because before this point in my life I've really had no life goals to speak of. My interests change far to often for me to pin any one thing down for my whole life, with the exception of making it to the end of said life still pretty happy and not to messed up! In the past couple of months though I've stumbled (mostly by accident) on one life goal. Being the worlds most awsome mom. Which is really funny (at least to me) because I always just figured being the world's coolest mom would just come naturally to me without having to worry about it xd . It's like I'm turning retarded!

I say there is plenty of reason for goals. Without goals, you really do end up working a job you hate at far too many hours. However, getting grades to get a good job means you get a BETTER job. Rather than too many hours as a wal mart drone (my current job) at low pay, you can be something better, that maybe you would actually like to do. Then you may not necisarilly work as much , but still make better pay than before( soon I will be working as a computer tech for less hours and more money, instead) . And if you do work far too much, chances are it is of your own choice(my goal is to work in the video game industry. I have no problem doing that for the rest of my life!!!).

The great thing about goals is that they can change and grow as you do. At one time, my ultimate goal in life was to become Indiana Jones--not just an archaeologist, but the actual person. This goal went out the window when I discovered I was a girl! As I learn new things about myself and about the world, my goals evolve.

As for why we need goals, they give us something to work towards, to aspire to. Nobody's goal is to do something they hate doing, but sometimes you have to do something you hate in order to achieve your goal.

In other words, if your goal is to have more leisure time, you have to work hard to be able to afford it.

true thaty better job means more working hours on a whole, BUT it also means better brak time, as well as vacation time, and the money to go somewhere on a vacation....more money to help you relax when you are home..........but everyone thinks as they believe, and if those thought could be changed, then you don't really believe it in the 1st place.........

@bold.. I dont really think that's true. people change all throughout their lives. it comes with growing. as a teenager my views werent the same as they are now, but that doesnt mean that when I was a teenager I didnt truly believe what it was I thought. I just came to a more expanded view of things.

as far as better job = better opportunity for vacations and relaxation, that's not necessarily the case. some people get so caught up with their work (they become workaholics) that they never really learn to relax, and perform business transactions even on vacation. some people have great jobs outwardly, but work for a sucky company that never gives them the opportunity to use their vacation time. and if you are starting your own business, it could be many years before you can take any kind of real vacation provided the business doesnt go belly up - which most do in the first 5 years.

that's why my goals are simple. to be happy, and have enough money to pay my bills and keep a roof over my head, and feed my kid. once every few years we have the opportunity to go on a vacation, even if it's just for an extended weekend. I just like to keep my life simple. at most, I might want to own my own house someday. the more high flying goals you have, the more complicated and frustrating life can be.

It's a generalization. Of course, there are exceptions, but in general, working harder leads to more opportunity for leisure. Whether people take advantage of that opportunity is up to them or to their situation.

There is no leisure without work; it just can't happen. In fact, leisure didn't even exist until people had worked hard enough to alleviate the need for constant work.

which is why big companies work their drones to the bone. So that THE WORKER'S hard work is enough to give THE OWNERS plenty of leisure.

you can't have much fun without an income.

i tried begging for a living for a couple months, sleeping under park benches; it's wasn't a jolly good time.

i feel goals are helpful even if you change them; it gives your efforts a point.
