I think that xmas is a corporate ploy to take your money from you...there is no christ, never was...you have all been made a fool.

the instituion on christmas may be a lie, and all of the things we used to believe may be a lie, but just remember when there was a time of the year when nothing else mattered but the sound of carols, and the smell of a fireplace. A time when even the most disfunctional family could seem human. So what if santa is not there, and the story of christ is a load....the feelings we had were real, lets keep that in mind....

yea, that's true, i mean, yea, we have been scammed in a sense, but the emotions we had at the time were worth it, it's just sad how christmas doesn't mean what it used to, it's all just a memory now. i think we all grow up too quickly nowadays. i think less knowledge can be a good thing at times, because of knowledge we now have higher expectations at christmas. xX

christmas is the biggest 'commercial' holiday of the year. all the companies that people buy their gifts from care about is making more money than they did the year before. if they dont, they dont consider themselves 'successful'. if this keeps up, and I believe it will because big corporations are the greediest entities in the world, they should just go ahead and change "christmas" to "giftmas". at least they would stop being hypocrites.

Tell me why I can't have you...
Christmas is meant to be about the birth of Jesus but then materialism, greed and otehr thingshave come too! Well I won't lie and say I still celebrate it solely for what it is. I love the presents and the sale commercials but everybody shouldn't forget what it's really about. The Birth of our Saviour.
...for my lonely Christmas Eve.

heh, technically it's not even that.. it's merely when his birth is *celebrated*. experts (scholars who study this stuff) say that really it was more likely he was born sometime in the spring, not winter.
the real reason christmas is celebrated on dec 25 was to transform the original pagan holiday of the solstice (the holiday of the symbolic birth of the sun god) into something pagans could relate to on christian terms. they sought to replace a so-called 'evil holiday' into a christian one. the gift giving may come from the legend of the gifts of the 3 kings (or wise men, whichever book of the bible you like better), but the tradition of the christmas tree (which is a relatively recent addition to christmas celebrations only a couple of 100 years old brought over to england, and then it spread here to the Americas) was brought over from germany, where it stemmed from their ancient pagan tradition of hanging gifts to the gods (ornaments) on the tree in hopes for good favor. the same with the yule log, another ancient pagan germanic tradition.

I know that is when all the companies make money but i dont really care about that. Its the time that i spend the most time with my family. instead of everyone being at school and work everyone is together giving eachother christmas presents and its pretty fun. I actually like giving presents to see the look on my families face. I am definitely full of christmas spirit. I cant wait!^_^

i still believe you are all missing the point, wether or we beleive what we were once told, or if we have faith in a religion it is based around, the fact still stands that emotions, how ever small they may be now, our stronger around this time of year.....

MenDia i still believe you are all missing the point, wether or we beleive what we were once told, or if we have faith in a religion it is based around, the fact still stands that emotions, how ever small they may be now, our stronger around this time of year..... I dont think anyone is missing the point, it's just that commercialism has overshadowed that point and for some, turned this time of good-will towards men into a time of large profits, and sometimes raving lunacy at the department stores (as when there's a popular toy on the market that EVERYONE wants to get for their kid, and there's only 1 left on the shelf so the parents actually get into fist fights over it). besides, good-will towards men should be a 360 day a year thing. I'm sorry, but a present given to me spontaneously on some obscure average day would mean a WHOLE lot more to me than one received on Xmas, because it seems to be more of an obligation on Xmas... it's expected to give gifts. you HAVE to go out and spend money that you dont really have or else you'll be seen to not care or have no thought for the other person. the thing I like most about Xmas however, is the atmosphere.. the tree, the candles, the spicy scents of hot mulled cider, and weather permitting, the snow.

Hmmm, I love Christmas. No, that's wrong. I really, really LOVE Christmas.
A few years ago I was 18 finishing my first semester of college, and just having a hard time. It was December, and it just didn't "feel" like Christmas. The Grinch the stole Christmas had just come out to theaters, and Faith Hill's song "Where are you Christmas" was playing a whole lot on the radio, and it really resonated with me.
I'm A Christian, and I know Christ was born April 6th, but does technicality matter? If we look for the bad in Christmas, we find find it. But if we look for the Good, we will find that also. I'm annoyed that Christmas songs were playing in the stores before Thanksgiving, but that, to me, isn't Christmas.
I live now where it snows, and it's snowing now, with everything draped in 5 or so inches of white. Beautiful. And I just saw our neighbor decide to shovel the snow off our sidewalk in kindness. That to me, and remembering our Lord Redeemer, is what it's all about. (Cue Peanuts music with Linus's speech:0)
But even if you don't believe in Christ, or whatever you believe, I hope all of you will find a little magic this season, and all year round. This reminds me of Celine Dion's "Don't save it all for Christmas Day."
Merry Christmas!!
