At least there's finally a video that tells black people to do something with their lives besides going to clubs.

the message reminds me of "drop it like it's hot" it's saying be rational and plan for the future

I was going to make a thread about that video. My sister saw it first and was laughing her a** off. I for one saw it as a way to get the message out there. Some guys were trying to kick it to me and my sis and she told them to "buy deoderant *****". They saw it to and that they walked away. The visuals are no different than some of the stuff you see on 106 and Park so I don't understand the big deal. The message is positive.

i dunno what to think of that video. i can't tell if the message is supposed to be positive, or if blacks are being made fun of (wear deoderant, brush your teeth -- like we don't know how to do that??). confused

if it is positive, it's done in such a way to get your attention that it might get taken the wrong way (i really don't need to see white people run in the wrong direction with this one).

i guess i need to put more research into what the artist is trying to tell me...

One word--

AMEN!! scream

I honestly have nothing against people who listen to rap/Hip-hop or what's popular. Same with other trends and what they read. I DO have a problem, though if that's all they do all the time. Sadly, that IS what some folks are all about all the time. I went to school with people like that who honestly couldn't give a flying ******** about Plato or the Three Theban Plays; yet had the nerve to look at me as some kind of odd lame because I knew my way around the hardcore text and had my stuff in order. I still get ragged on about it now...but uh...I have my priorities together. I think that was the message. Get it together, carry yourself in the right direction, expand and open your mind.
Interesting timing, though. It makes me think of the statistic survey done by this educational specialist in Chicago. What she did was question some African-American kids and their parents in a well-to-do area to find out why they were doing poorly in comparison to their White classmates. She found out that....

1-parents (who were lawyers, judges and the like) of the Black students hardly spent time with them or their studies.
2-The kids themselves openly said it was uncool to be smart....yet they wanted to be cool, have all the dough, have all the stuff.
3-What was even worse was that the parents said the educational part was left up to the teacher and no one else. Neither they nor their children were responsible.

That floored me. My father AND my mother (God rest her soul) made sure I kept up with my studies. They were (and my father still is) always asking about school. They were on my case when I got bad grades and nagged my big butt constantly to study. They didn't stand by and let me grow as a weed. They made me feel proud to be smart....proud to flaunt my brains. (despite the fact that some people just think I'm weird...)
I'm glad this video exists. Maybe the message will get through. Maybe not. Nobody was being made fun of. It was a straight up commentary. You'd be surprised at how many people fail to adhere to basic hygiene codes.

I finally saw it. I think it's a good message, but I didn't care for the language so much. However, I feel they were speaking to dumb people, and those who choose to remain ignorant. I don't think it was directed to all black people, or all people in general.

Even if it is a positive message, it is still technically making fun or the stereotype, or those who embrace it atleast.

... Well to be honest as much as I hate negative publicity towards my race... We brought it on ourselves with the whole embracing Southern Rappers.. and letting these ignorant ******** stereotypes parade around on t.v. dirty, grilly, and spraying semen all over the place like dirty moley rabbits... but still.. MAN what the hell...
