A gentle stretch of her front legs helped pull the last edges of sleep from Kianira's mind. Her back arched as she pulled herself forward, stretching out the rear legs as well. Life had bee so quiet here, a refuge from the life she had her mate had had before coming to the Ela'wadiyi. At times it was slow, days could stretch on to weeks if one felt restless. But the near-constant cycle of family, migrating, and sharing joy filled her heart.

She felt like it was due time for her mate to awaken as well. There were no clan plans for this day, only a day of rest and whatever recreation one wanted. And though for the most part the two older lines were rather laid back, Kianira didn't want to waste the day away completely; no! They had a few hours to enjoy some task before the head of the mid-day sun would drive them back under the shade for a spell.

Living in the Ela'wadiyi agreed with Jitokeza, perhaps more than the Swamps ever had. The peace, quiet and steady routine did wonders for the aging lion after a chaotic youth. Not to mention the unexpected joy that came from rediscovering his siblings and really living with them again. Sado had a similarly chaotic youth but he was here, he had his family and Jitokeza got to see that. Tearh was here, they didn't see her often but she had her family too. The only thing he was really missing was his own children, but he'd long made peace with their independence.

And, of course, the most important thing was that Kianira was here with him and it seemed to suit her as much. He was deep in sleep by her side when she stretched out, and try as he might to resist he began to stir as well. He would be perfectly happy staying right here.

Kianira smirked to herself, giving her mate a little firmer of a nudge to see if he would wake up. She didn't quite blame him; sleeping here was easier once they had come to find this place home. There were so few risks here, it was easy to see why its people were so warm, welcoming, and trusting. It made the devastation from the mountain collapsing easier to recover from.

"C'mon silly, or do you want to sleep the day away? We've got time before the next migration, we may as well explore a bit. Keep our joints warm so we don't get still like some of the other oldies here." She attempted to tease him a bit to see if it would help, but she knew that he knew that her teasing was as gentle as she was.

"Or perhaps I could see what the rest of the family is up to, and you can sleep in more."

Jitokeza managed to keep a straight face until she started talking about how old they were, then the frown was impossible for him to hide- and it was only made worse by the half-hearted attempts to stifle the urge to stretch out and wake up. He did feel stiff, stretching was more painful now than it had been before but it made a bigger difference..

So, grumbling, he opened his eyes and started working his way to his feet.

"Alright, alright," he said, getting up and stretching out with a yawn, "I'm up.."

His frown didn't last very long and once he was looking at Kianira properly, he was smiling.

With a small look of victory, Kianira puffed her chest out before offering her mate a warm rub against their shoulders together. "Well, at least I was able to get you up without more teasing." She felt like there was so much love in her heart for Jitokeza, and blessed the stars above that she had found him in her life.

"We could go check out the stream, see if anything new is gracing its shores since last time we were in this area. Or we could try to find some new flowers to dry! I'm sure the alu'nadi wouldn't mind adding to some of her gifts for others. Or we could just take a stroll, see if we see any pretty birds in the sky.... we've got choices."

Frankly, she would be happy with anything. She just wanted to stretch her legs with Jitokeza at her side.

Jitokeza swayed a bit as Kianira listed off their options, careful not to push her too hard as he brushed against her while moving. It was such a pleasant way to start their day, and they were all good options. Migration meant you didn't always have the same choices in a lazy day and being so close to this part of the river had its benefits.

"How about we take that stroll down toward the stream," he said thoughtfully, "Then if the weather is good for it, we'll see about flowers."

Why choose just one thing when you could do them all? Every idea Kianira had was a good one, he was happy to follow her lead.

"A good plan!" She bumped his shoulder again as she pulled ahead, swishing her tail behind her as she brightly stared at the land before them. She wouldn't describe it as green, though it wasn't all solid earth either. A perfect mixture of earth, grass, shrubs, and trees. Paradise.

She led him down towards the stream, though perhaps it was more like a quiet river than a stream. It wasn't the largest one rushing through the Ela'waidyi lands, but it still may have its fair share of surprises. Small bits of bones, bits of shiny things that the ravens had somehow missed. Pieces of the past and potential future could be found along the water's edge, and it was rather amusing that it made her feel so cubbish again.

"Let's see what we can find! I bet there's something new here." She glanced over her shoulder to make sure Jitokeza was still nearby.

"Do you suppose the hippos or crocs come this far down?" he asked as they strolled along, struggling to remember just what the geography around the water was in this area. Kianira calling it a stream meant it was unlikely but you just never knew for sure. They would have just as much cause to wander as the lions did.

Finding something would be better than finding somebody, he thought, especially early in the morning.. but even Jitokeza was getting better at socializing now that he was in a smaller, family-oriented pride.

Kianira froze for a moment mid-step as she thought about the real risk of hippos or crocodiles. Still, she didn't think that the water was deep enough for any of that danger... hopefully?

"Well...no. I don't think so. Besides, I don't really want to go into the water, let's just keep ourselves just a bit over the water's edge. We will be safe here, right?" She kept an eye on the water, but also was looking around the water's edge to see if there was anything interesting. Lots of little bones (probably leftover meals from said crocs), twigs, stones.... it was rather lovely.

"Do you see anything we should possibly gather up for crafting supplies?"

Jitokeza shrugged. Maybe it was because he lived in a swamp for so long but the comparatively clear water confined specific areas of the lands wasn't quite so scary, or maybe he just didn't really think there would be anything bothersome here.. either way, he hadn't intended to put his mate on edge!

"I'm sure we're fine," he said confidently, smiling at her again and scanning the area for anything potentially useful, "I like to use bones, let's see if we can find any good ones."

Feathers and beads were popular here, bones were usually pretty good beads.

"I would very much like to help you as always, Jito." Her attention wander up and down the water's edge, even looking up a bit higher than the shoreline. There had to be other little leftover bits of things from past small floodings of the small river. She started digging around a bit in the softer dirt and sand, using her claws to see what she could find. There were some hits and some misses, but after a bit of time, she had a little pile growing safely away from the water's edge.

"There!" They had been at it for a short while, but it felt like they had made good progress. Jito would have quite the pile of materials to work with in their future. "Perfect," she said with a grin.

"Do you think that's enough for now? Maybe we can go flower hunting now!"

He beamed and then split off from Kianira as she started to search for useful bones. She had a good eye for this but Jitokeza did well about keeping up with her, it wasn't long before they had an excellent pile of usable bone fragments.. which just left the flowers that Kianira favoured.

Jitokeza looked up in the sky, noting how far the sun had risen.

"Looks like it'll be a good day for drying them," he said, "Let's see what we can find around here."

Accomplishment still filling her heart, she nodded excitedly for the change of pace. It was much the same as gathering for Jito's future craftsmanship, but they would more than likely move carefully now that the day's heat had risen. Still, it was ample time to find some flowers that she would want for herself.

"Yes, a good day to dry some beautiful flowers for gifts later. Let us begin!" she said with renewed vigor, leading her mate towards the grassier areas to see what they could find.

A productive day indeed.
