Name: Diryas ibn Hanan ibn Fakhir Castaneda al-Baksh, Ph.D. // (DIp + pRay + YArn + Sit) + (fELL - BOX + SHell)

Nickname: Dise (deece) (because your professor mushmouths your name ONE TIME…)

Age: 30

Birthday: October 29th, 1988

Sign: Scorpio

Gemstone: Opal

Blood Type: A+

Fav. Food: Tree fruit. Pears, peaches, bananas, apples, citrus, all of these. He likes berries and shrub/vine fruit well enough, but if it grows on a tree, chances are he adores it.

Hated Food: He’s lactose intolerant, so a lifetime of forced digestive conditioning has made him dislike how milk/cheese/etc. tastes.

School: Diryas went to Destiny City University and graduated with a doctorate in chemistry, specifically organic and biochemistry. Nowadays he works as a toxicologist with adjunct professorship at the university.

Hobbies:
Jigsaw Puzzles - And the harder the better. He won't typically consider anything less than 10,000 pieces a proper challenge and prefers to work on landscape, celestial, or aquatic themed pieces. When he's finished, he tends to glue them together and frame them for display or sell the finished puzzles through private sales.

Keyboarding - His parents insisted he learn at least one musical skill, and he chose the keyboard. He’s not at a level that could be considered competitive, but he’s competent enough to play intermediate pieces and compose some of his own. He doesn’t care much for a traditional piano, however, feeling it lacks versatility compared to his electronic keyboard.

Botany - If not winding down with a puzzle or music, he’ll be tending to a small garden of plants, the majority of which live on his balcony. This is where he supplements some of his fruit, especially the berries. He keeps a couple other plants that aren’t, well, remotely edible, but keeps them well away from the edible ones. These are carefully tended, and he sometimes brings them to class if lecturing on nature not being all warm and fuzzy.

Virtues:
Patient - If there is something he wants, he'll get it; it's just a matter of time. It's relatively rare that he gives up on something purely due to how long it’ll take to obtain/accomplish. Instead, it usually has to be dangerous, impractical, expensive, that sort of thing--something that makes it not worth the trouble. His patience also extends to social situations, making it easier for him to navigate them despite being fairly introverted. Trying his patience typically involves people not taking the “hint” when he blatantly ignores them, blatantly tells them to go away, or blatantly leaves.

Self-Sufficient - Diryas doesn’t generally need other people. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t like other people, prefer the company of friends and loved ones, or strongly desire the presence of certain others. But he doesn’t need to be surrounded by people, and he won’t feel lonely if he goes days or even weeks without a friend checking in--though he might be concerned if that’s unusual behaviour for that friend or loved one. When he was a child, his tendency to play by himself did raise some eyebrows, but school counselors concluded he was fine, just quiet, so he was eventually left alone to do as he pleased.

Unflappable - He is very hard to bother, and showing him something to see his reaction to the shock factor is probably only going to end in disappointment for the person trying to shock him. This extends into more contentious arenas, and Diryas doesn’t debate politics because it’s pointless to him. What do people think they’re going to convince him of, anyway? You want to be paleo? Sure, cool, he doesn’t care. Your job takes you into the red-light district? Stay safe! He might see you there later! You need help getting to the clinic for your E or T? He’ll give you bus fare. Now, if someone’s actively getting hurt, then he’ll do what he can, and there’s been a couple times the bus fare was to a shelter (after which he placed an anonymous 911 call), but in general Diryas stays level. He can, after significant time and pressure, be pushed to losing his temper, but the effort it takes to do so isn’t something people tend to want to invest.

Studious - It’s not just that he’s observant, but also that he has good powers of recall. It wasn’t that he didn’t have to study in school--anyone who says they don’t need to study the TCA cycle is a liar--but moreso that he can pick up changes in body language, intonation, that sort of thing, and notice very quickly when someone’s having a bad day if they’re someone he knows reasonably well. He can follow connections and pathways of thought to quickly reach a conclusion and move onto the next problem that needs solving. He doesn’t need to rely on as much rote memorization as long as he has the time to properly devote his attention to a topic.

Flaws:
Mischievous - Diryas is just over five feet of bad science jokes. His 'keep calm and carry on' exterior hides a mischievous streak many miles wide and he tends to tease mercilessly with people who will tend to recognize the banter for what it is. Pranks, traps, these are all things he enjoys and will quite happily go along with most things of that nature. It can get him into trouble, though, as even people closest to him can misunderstand a light-hearted comment as an act of spite, or just not appreciate the timing of a joke. As he never breaks an 'act' to grin reassuringly or wink, he is very easy to take seriously when he doesn't mean to be. He has lost friendships due to it, especially when he was younger, and this was very distressing to a boy who didn’t have many of them to begin with. He will certainly apologize if someone lets him know they’re bothered, but that hasn’t always happened.

Self-Contained - Diryas does not emote much, open up much, or lean on others much. For those who need to be able to read the other person to be comfortable talking to them, he is not an easy conversation partner, and not just because he’s not given to conversating. He doesn’t like to talk about what’s going on in his life unless he knows the other person very well, well enough that they honestly probably don’t actually need to ask because they were probably there. However, even still, he doesn’t like to feel “burdensome”, and he has to be reminded that there are people he can come to when he needs it. It does take a measure of watchfulness on the part of his loved ones, because Diryas just isn’t likely to say anything, himself.

Quiet - He is not shy in the least. People close to him would laugh at the notion. However, because Diryas isn’t someone who talks much, people can assume he’s shy. This usually has one of two outcomes: either someone thinks he’s shy and tries to baby him because of it (his least favourite is when they try to speak up for him without establishing that he’s okay with it) or they try to push him around because, mistaken premise or no, they equate quietness with shyness and shyness with timidity. He’s perfectly capable of advocating for himself, thanks, and he doesn’t appreciate the insinuation that he can’t take care of himself. Being talked over is just generally frustrating and tends to make him quite grouchy--especially when the other person won’t stop talking for five seconds so Diryas can flatly tell them off.

Focused - On the surface, this would be a good thing. However, Diryas can easily lose himself in his work, forgetting to eat or sleep. More extreme cases can involve him forgetting about other people around him. He has to finish what he’s doing, he has to solve the proof, he has to calculate the molarity of a very specific, niche solution. It's been remarked that he would never hear a fire alarm. He simply is not thinking on the 'present' plane when he does this, and rarely ignores someone out of malice or annoyance, and almost never even remembers someone trying to get his attention. However, even after he’s made aware of someone trying to talk to him, he has occasionally brusquely dismissed them. No insult intended, of course--he’s busy! He can talk to them later--it’s probably not even that important. He’s learned to moderate this somewhat, because his job does necessitate working in teams sometimes, but it’s all too easy to fall back into his own little world when working.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: [Garnet] ⓿⓿⓿⓿⓿ and almond-shaped

Hair: [Red Dahlia] ⓿⓿⓿⓿⓿ from the root, fading into ⓿⓿⓿⓿⓿ towards the ends ([Cerise]). His hair is chest-length in the front and shoulder-length in the back as well as slightly curly/wavy.

Face: A medium warm tan at base, he can get several shades darker if exposed to the sun frequently. ⓿⓿⓿⓿⓿ (#B5684C); he has light facial hair growth, thankfully not patchy, along his jawline. His facial structure is not the most masculine, but he's really only androgynous from behind due to his height. A reasonably good face-claim is [Imran] [Abbas].

Clothes: When not at work, Diryas prefers denim shorts and cotton t-shirts. Due to only being 5’3” and 125 lbs, Diryas occasionally (often) has to shop in the boys’ section, leaving him with a somewhat eclectic array of graphic tees. He also wears a pair of silver thin-framed glasses and a gold wedding band in the shape of a serpent wrapped nose-to-tail.

Knight Title: Imhotep, Page of Mercury

Imhotep: Egyptian physician/sage c. 2686-2613 B.C. // “[...] only Egyptian besides Amenhotep to be fully deified, becoming the god of wisdom and medicine (or, according to some sources, god of science, medicine, and architecture). Imhotep was a priest, vizier to King Djoser (and possibly to the succeeding three kings of the Third Dynasty), a poet, physician, mathematician, astronomer, and architect.”
[...]
“Although his Step Pyramid is considered his greatest achievement, he was also remembered for his medical treatises which regarded disease and injury as naturally occurring instead of punishments sent by gods or inflicted by spirits or curses. He was deified by the Egyptians in c. 525 BCE and was equated with the demi-god of healing Asclepius by the Greeks.” [x]

Challenge: "If you can’t Helium and can’t Curium, then just Barium."

Uniform: The dominant colour of Imhotep’s uniform is silver-blue, with light blue accents and strong elements of medium-dark blue.

Top -- Imhotep wears a long silver-blue tunic, fitting to his arms and ending at his wrists with the hem falling at mid-thigh; the hem itself is a thin line of medium-dark blue
Bottoms -- silver-blue pants
Gloves -- medium-dark blue gloves with silvery-blue fur around the wrists
Belt -- a sash worn around his waist that is light blue and edged in medium-dark blue
Shoes -- thick padded med-dark blue fabric strapped to and wrapped around his feet to mid-calf
Shoulders -- a silver-blue fur stole with a blue clasp at his throat
Accessories -- a small light blue snake pendant with medium-dark blue eyes

Weapon & Magic Imhotep’s weapon calls back to the [Rod of Asclepius]User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show., which is often confused for and used interchangeably with the Caduceus .

Page Weapon: A piece of driftwood about the length of his forearm, carved crudely with a snake wrapped around it. The wood is not very strong--similar to balsa wood in heft--and is a pale silvery brown.

Squire Weapon: A piece of wood about the size of a cane, with the serpent now possessing a defined head and body outline but not much else improved from its page form. The wood is sturdier and more silver than brown.
Imhotep whirls his weapon in a circle, the head of the wooden serpent tracing a glowing holographic snake along its path. Once the circle motion is complete, the holographic snake appears on the ground, forming a glowing circle about 10 feet in diameter. A translucent dome appears over the encircled area. Allies within this area may begin to feel their energy returning to them, as if they are having their batteries recharged, and they may find injuries easier to ignore with a temporary boost to their natural healing. After a limit of 40 seconds, the dome sputters and fizzles out, and the healing effect ends.

Knight Weapon: A wooden staff with an articulated serpent coiled around it. The wood is solid and is entirely silver.
Imhotep, like before, whirls his weapon in a circle. This time the hologram forms a circle 20 feet in diameter before turning into a translucent force field dome. Like before those allies within the dome may feel their energy returning to them as if they are having their batteries recharged, as well as boosts to their natural healing capacity. Additionally, the force-field component to the dome protects those within from physical attacks. His magic has a total limit of 50 seconds.

Hello! I believe that this is a quest for the White Rabbit civ from the Halloween Raffle, so please correct me if I'm wrong as I proceed with my crit!

Civ side of things -- everything is good to go! Looks like you've put a lot of thought into him and he seems pretty well balanced!

For the powered side -- Imhotep is currently available as a Wonder! If you haven't already obtained a slot for his powered side you'll just have to double-check this to make sure it's still available when you do get a slot, as receiving stamp doesn't reserve the Wonder.

Uniform-wise, the description that you've got should work for the theme, although your artist may have to make some adjustments to keep it in line with 'sc-fi/Ice Tron'. The colors that you'd like to use are where there changes might need to be made the most. Recent updates to the knight uniforms can be found here and are as follows:

Quote:
White can be used in moderation for Knights of any alignment. Colors that had white on the swatch have had them replaced with another color. All knights can have up to 30% white on their uniform, except for Cosmos Knights which can have up to 60%.

You'll most likely have to substitute some of the white you're looking for in his uniform with some of the paler blues, or work with a colorist to make sure that no more than 30% of his uniform is white.

Weapon and weapon progression is good and will work out just fine!

When it comes to his magic, what you've got currently reads a little more like Senshi magic than Knight magic. Knights channel their magic through their weapons and doing so should not produce anything other than the magic effect itself. For a Mercury Knight the themes that the magic should revolve around are Technology and Intelligence. Taking what you currently have,I would recommend the following changes:

Squire: Imhotep focuses his magic and a holographic circle 10 feet in diameter forms beneath him. Allies within this area may begin to feel like their batteries are being recharged, so to speak, as though their injuries are easier to ignore and their natural quick healing time is temporarily boosted further.

Knight: Imhotep focuses his magic and a holographic circle 20 feet in diameter forms beneath him with a force field rising up around him. Allies within this area may begin to feel like their batteries are being recharged, so to speak, as though their injuries are easier to ignore and their natural quick healing time is temporarily boosted further. With the addition of the force field they are also protected from incoming physical attacks.

I would also consider making the magic pool 40 seconds for squire and 50 seconds for knight.

Keep in mind that the above is just a suggestion and you do not need to stick with that at all! If you have something else in mind that you think would better fit the themes of technology and intelligence and you would like to go another route, you may certainly do so!

If you have any questions, please feel free to either quote me here or send me a PM! Whenever you're ready to move on, just quote me!

Hi there! Yes, this is for the civ!

For the uniform, I changed the white to a light silvery blue. I'm cool with possible adjustments, and wouldn't mind working with whoever arts him on it.

I made some adjustments to the magic to make it clearer what I was going for--the snake is purely a hologram and a visual for the area of effect he sets up! It's a call-back to the background behind his name and the weapon itself (an image of which I included for clarity's sake). Other than that, I've made some of the changes you suggested owob

I understood where you were going as far as imagery was concerned in connection with the overall theme of your knight concept! My concern is that the overall theme of a Mercury Knight's powers should be 'technology' and 'intelligence' and currently the only nod towards that you have are the holographic snake visuals. The suggestion I'd made was to lend more of a 'circular wireless charging pad' feel to it in an attempt to bring in more of a technically inclined aspect.

Otherwise, a circle of healing/protection might lend a bit better to either Chronos or Cosmos.

Hey, Ama! This seems good to me! Please consider the civilian side stamped (you can set up a journal for him and begin playing as long as the art is finished! However, I do have a question about the powered side that I wanted to go over before I dropped a stamp! You mention that his magic improves natural healing; did you have an idea of how much it would improve natural healing/what the cap of this would be? For example, it would be fine if he healed minor injuries, such as light scrapes or bruises, or lessened the severity of heavy bruises/deeper lacerations, but he shouldn't be able to heal life threatening injuries completely, or heal broken bones. I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page about healing and get a concrete understanding for exactly how much he could heal if he channeled all his magic to heal someone!

Please give me a quote and I'll be back as soon as possible to work towards stamping his powered side, too!

Hey Kyu! Don't worry, his magic primarily operates on an augmentative front. He'd be able to heal minor injuries like cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc., lessen the more severe ones, but would only provide a sort of helping hand when it comes to the most severe parts. Even at his knight form, he can make it easier for someone else to heal themselves if they have the ability or persevere through it (mostly through analgesic effects) with direct effects limited to reducing swelling, etc., but he can't actually fully heal an injury that severe. Basically, when it comes to the really bad ones, he's relegated to pain/symptom management. He'd be able to, perhaps, stop the bleeding of a life threatening cut or stab wound or take some of the edge off, but he can't actually knit the skin back together again or restore blood already lost.
