I think that it was more of a "Hey, you're both wrong. Shut up." Intimidate check and not a "I will murder both of your faces" intimidate check. I don't see why it would be a problem.

Quote:
Hobby [hob-ee]
noun, plural hobbies.
1. An activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation:

Just relax and allow us all the pleasure of roleplaying our characters. Half the fun of D&D is cleaning up the messes that you get yourself into. If he wants to piss off the level 30 gate guard, let him. Gam3r and I live together, and neither of us are finding this game pleasurable or relaxing with you constantly freaking out about my character being a d**k and now about him using the skill that his character is proficient in to try and steer this back on course.

Walking up to my character and calling him a corrupted genasi was interpreted by him much in the same way as a white guy walking up to a black guy and saying "Whats up ******?" So yeah, I am not going to play nice with the gate guard because this is a roleplaying game and I am playing the role of the character that I created. Instead of posting warnings saying "ooooh you shouldn't do that" just go with it. So what if we get into combat and Gam3r and I get killed, we probably deserved it in your mind for not being hardcore LG enough. Which ironically is what Gam3r is playing and if you read the post the only reason he is intimidating at all is because his character feels as if there is a bit to much chaos here and is trying to hit the reset button.

If Sage want to athletics and climb the wall, its a viable option, if Gam3r wants to fly in, its a viable option, if Southern Cross wants to Barbarian smash through the wall or I want to acid blast the wall and melt it away, its a viable option. There is no one set way. Just because you didn't plan it to happen that way doesn't mean that it can't happen. Welcome to being a DM 80% of the time your players don't go from point A to B to C like you want them to.

Blue Moon, you are entirely and 100% right on your first post. Something to consider, though, is that Kowsauni might be used to DMing for different people who play differently. Part of roleplaying is getting used to our DM, part of it is getting used to each other, and part is the DM getting used to us.

But like I said, 100% right.

But as the active Captain of this guild, your second post, as well as Gam3r's, were entirely unnecessarily antagonistic, and I have scrubbed them.

Every DM has to deal with situations where the party goes awry and off-track, and the only way we'll "learn" is by facing the consequences of those actions, even if it comes down to in-party fighting until half of us dead, or the law tracking us down and executing us (so help me if I get executed for being an 'accomplice'). Sometimes those campaigns, while completely different than what the DM has planned, can be fun in of themselves. It's unfortunate for any planned campaign story that they wished to run (to which, I recommend starting over once the devastation and heartbreak are complete with new players with harsher restrictions as to what they can play, and excluding players you deem to have bad experiences with).

Ultimately, its this kind of stuff that made me refuse to DM for my old gaming group, because they would seek to blur lines and break boundaries in an effort to 'hack' the story, and not behind PBP, without experience, I was unable to keep up with it and do anything resembling an adequate job.

As a player, however, I've always strived to experience the story, rather than beat it. I'm fascinated by what the mind of another can write, and I want to see it unfold from start to finish like a good book. But I understand that it is MY way, not everyone else's, and not necessarily the best way. However, it's what makes this hobby pleasurable and relaxing to me.

***

Okay, I started to ramble and drone on a bit there. TL;DR version: Kowsauni, don't pull punches, because that's what you're doing. Save your story for another attempt if it becomes unsalvageable so early on. Let this be a shenanigans adventure instead, if that's what your players push for.

And if none of you read the comic Knights of the Dinner Table, by the gods, you should, because this is exactly the kind of stuff you see in there.

I think Kowsauni should have resolved this via PM rather than posting about it to clear up the confusion - in fact, he still should. Intent is an easy thing for a DM to miss in PBP format, but that's no one's fault. smile

I don't see, how my barbarian could add to or subtract from the drama at the gate. Besides... scream *rage, charge a treant, and practice barbarian style hedge trimming; or lighten the party* (which is outside his personality; unless someone started with an actual damaging attack. So far it is a bunch of huffing and puffing.)... Or, offering to buy everyone an quart of the strongest ale the town has.

Besides, there are different ways to communicate, and even more ways those communications can break down. Starting with corrupted as a defining trait of someone, who has a god complex, would be one of those ways. She wouldn't know, he wouldn't say it was offensive to me, and now we are at the impasse of two alpha personalities. It is part of gaming and real life. To fix the situation a third and forth jump in. One by placing a zap collar on the 'god', the other by yelling at them to play nice.

What about full frontal nudity? I'm in Full Plate, it'd take me at least 5 minutes to get out of it (with assistance!), so I'm going to have to rely on Thork's light-armored expertise.

I'm amused at the prospect of this turning into a clusterfrak shouting match, and at one point, someone makes a perception check and Thork is just standing there casually, in the buff. No one saw him undress, and he's just waiting patiently.

Silence befalls Lupa once more...

Should this continues, Thork will... should it continue after that, he will start hugging people!

As an official representative of Sehanine, Goddess of Love, the paladin gives you her stamp of approval to proceed.

Just note that his armor is +1 Frozen Plate Mail.

He is one of the calm ones, thus wouldn't need to be hugged

Big Group Hug!

Also, for the record, Dungeons and Dragons is probably the most racist RPG/Campaign setting I've ever played in.

Evidence provided by Gary Gygax himself.
