This is Meyaira Firespring; she's a character I made up because I love cat people. She's also the one I have as my avatar (and ya, my username is her name, so it matches the avi, Lol) - I love dressing her up in all sorts of outfits~!

She could use a bit of editing and more development, but for now, she's my owner of pets in this world.

When I RP with Wisp or any of my other BaaBaas, she may sometimes come into the story, so that's why I'm including her here.

Oh, and she's a catgirl who was scientifically created in a lab, so sadly, she doesn't really have any special powers, apart from having feline attributes.

(The art here is by the wonderful Lucyal - an awesome artist I met on Gaia)

***

BAZIC: He is Meyaira's pet. I forgot to say what Bazic is! He's a creature I made up called a 'Lypthera' (Ly-theer-ah). And 'Lypthet' (ly-thet) is the juvenile stage. They are based off cats/felines due to my love of all things cat and they are part of Mey's mission in life (she has to help find them all). Here's some pictures so you can see what he is.

Personality: He knows his owner's voice so Wisp follows her and no one else unless they somehow gain his trust. Quiet and placid, content to meander in the meadow and munch sweet grass all day when not playing, exploring, or snoozing in a nice spot. Puts up with being treated as a fluffy toy by Mey's other pet with just the occasional baa of protest. Tends to stay close to his owner and hide behind her in new or scary situations. Kind, sweet and sometimes brave.

Likes: being cuddled and brushed, sounds of bells and wind chimes blowing in the wind, eating oats and sweet grass, being fed treats, sleeping by the stream or pond on sunny days, playing games and exploring, being given attention, dancing to music when he thinks no one is watching

Dislikes: Haircuts, wolves and other hungry predators eying him off, being clawed at (Bazic's claws are a bit pointy sometimes), seafood, being soaked through to the skin, burrs and thistles caught in coat, blustery strong winds, being left alone for too long with no one to talk to

Extra: Wisp is rather short sighted but his hearing and sense of smell make up for his somewhat poor eyesight. He smells pretty nice when he's all clean and brushed. He can be stubborn when he doesn't want to do something and will run away and hide. Has been known to bounce when hit.

How Wisp Blew In

It was a stormy day today. That was news to Meyaira. The morning had been a bit breezy but it had looked like it would stay clear despite the greyish clouds scudding about; a perfect day for a picnic and some relaxation after her busy work week. She hadn’t of course, bothered to check the weather report. They weren’t always right and she’d slept in and missed the news anyway.

The cat girl was grateful there had been a free gazebo to shelter under here at the botanical gardens. It was starting to blow up a gale.

The wind toyed with the French plait she’d tied her hair up in to stop it becoming tangled or sticking to her lip gloss. It tugged at her large golden cat ears, making her flick them in mild discomfort and hold them back at an angle to stop the wind blowing straight into them.

She squinted against the gusts to stop her eyes from streaming and peered out from where she sat at the leaves and petals blowing everywhere. It was fun to watch the birds flying in it and to see and hear all the trees and plants dancing and swaying. Things were certainly more lively…but it did make it difficult to eat her salad.

She watched in dismay as some of the lettuce greens she’d been trying to eat blew off her fork and went scuttering away. “Rats! That’s the second time I’ve lost half my mouthful. Good thing we brought you something different, hey?”

She’d come here because she loved flower gardens and needed to unwind on her day off but she also came here because she needed to get out of the house with her pet and companion, Bazic. This was who she was now talking to.

Her response was a muffled chirrup from around a mouthful of cat biscuits, and the furry white animal looking up at her with a lick of his maw around wiggling feelers. “Mrrmf! Nrr”

Mey giggled. He was constantly entertaining her, either because he was getting into mischief or being goofy and cute. He was growing up fast though and now that he was bigger and capable of doing more, some of the behaviours that had been adorable in his little kit stage were becoming destructive or disruptive.

Getting him out of the house to stretch and run around was normally the best idea. And taking her pet for walks helped her keep fit as well. Besides, she had wanted to try to preserve what un-shredded areas remained of her couch.

“Glad you’re enjoying it” she replied conversationally, “I just wish you’d eaten the salmon mousse I put out for you this morning instead of playing in it and leaving squishy footprints all up the hall” She sighed, petting his head playfully and ruffling the little ears. That had been a pain to get out of the carpet in her room. Plus her house now smelled fishy.

As it turned out, fishy carpet was the least of her worries. Another gust of wind billowed in, this time bringing a sprinkle of chilly drizzle along with bugs and leaves. Stray strands of hair that had escaped from her braid whipped into her mouth as she bit into another forkful of the Waldorf salad and she frowned and stopped mid-chew with a disgruntled sound, unable to see and certainly not wanting to eat her own hair.

“Uck…mmf…shoopid wind!” the neko cursed, picking strands out and quickly swallowing her bite. She raised her hand to clear her vision and blinked at the scud of grey cumulus as a clap of thunder made her jolt and her fur frizz on end.

It looked like a full blown storm had rolled in. A flash of lightning and another deep rumble followed the first.

Mey normally loved storms, though more so when she was dry and wasn’t trying to have a picnic.

‘I wish I’d brought my umbrella. Now we’re going to get soaked walking home, nya!” Boo. What a time to turn stormy.

She picked up her half eaten lunch box with a pout and looked around for the lid, glimpsing a cloud that scudded rather fast out of the corner of her vision.

The wind was now annoying and made her feel flustered, so she decided to give up picnicking and just wait for a break in the rain.

Bazic was content enough, wandering around the gazebo and sniffing at this or that after his meal was gone. He was standing with his front paws leaning on the side of their small hut, ears alert as he watched something intently.

“Baaaaaaaaaa~”

Mey’s ears swivelled to catch the faint bleat over the swooshing of the wind and the increasing tattoo of the rain.

“Was that a sheep?” Questioning, she looked up from clipping the lid on her plastic container, trying to pinpoint which direction it had come from.

Normally, her hearing told her straight away yet the noise seemed to travel in the storm. Odd, she didn’t think there were any farms near these gardens. She stood and walked towards the open side of the gazebo, peering out into the misted garden.

“Brr, meew, mrr-oww!”

Bazic leaped off the gazebo seat and dashed towards an opening, out into the wet. He’d spotted something and she followed his gaze to see what it was.

“What? What is it boy?” She wondered, clutching the lunchbox to her chest.

A little grey cloud was blowing in the wind and rain! It looked like it was coming straight towards them.

“Baaaaaaaaaaa!”

Wait, clouds didn’t blow around like that. It couldn’t be a real one. And they didn't baa either.

“Nyaaaa!” Meyaira screeched as something fluffy and woollen collided with her head-on, knocking her lunchbox out of her hands as she stumbled and fell over on her butt. Tiny sharp things that felt like hooves prodded at her and the soggy ball of wool wriggled and squirmed.

“Oof! Yeek! Wh-what is it?!” she shouted, pushing the thing off her out of fear.

A miserable little “Beeehhhh!” and a thudding sound as something rolled off her chest and across the floor told her it was alive. A split second after, something white dashed across her, pricking her with its little claws and she knew Bazic had ran over to investigate.

Mey sat up with a groan, holding her elbow where it had knocked against the cement floor and hissing air through her teeth at the stinging pricks to her skin. She looked around, holding hair out of her face as the wind continued to swirl and whoosh through the small shelter.

Bazic prodded the thing with his paw. It smelled funny. Like ozone and fresh laundry. He sniffed at it, nosed it curiously as the vibrissae either side of his nose traced their way delicately across the little fluffball.

“Beeh!” It made a sound. Bazic jumped back a bit…then tiptoed forwards again and tapped his paw at it again.

“Beeh!”

This was fun~! Prod, prod, pat, pat went the Lypthet’s little clawed pawpad, touching the BaaBaa’s forehead and cheek and receiving different sounds for each one. Lettuce leaves and pieces of salad covered the soaked cotton ball, clinging to its damp form after the lunchbox had broken open from Mey’s fall.

“Ohh, you poor thing…I’m so sorry!” Meyaira felt really bad now, seeing what it was. It looked like a little sheep, smaller than most sheep she’d ever seen and a peculiar yet pretty bluish-white. She could see how adorable it was, even with the dripping wool.

“Bazic, stop that!” she ordered, shooing her cheeky pet away from the animal. She was amused when he skittered back with a playful chirrup-mewl but glad when he obeyed her mock-scolding nonetheless. Ah yes, he wasn't scared of her at all.

Kneeling down beside it, she picked the woolly sheep critter up in her arms, picking off bits of lettuce and walnuts. A quick dig around in the fabric shopping bag she’d brought with her and she’d found the picnic blanket she’d forgotten to use earlier, wrapping it around the shaking creature and drying it off a bit. She checked the collar it was wearing, admiring the shiny silver bell, but found no sort of identification of any kind.

She had no idea how this animal had been blowing around in the gale all by itself but she was aware that there were all kinds of beasts in the world she still hadn’t heard of. It had to be some kind of special one. In fact, it looked like it could be someone’s pet. Maybe it had gotten lost when the wind blew it away!

Whatever the case, she wasn’t going to leave the little fellow out in this weather. Mey gathered her bag and gently tucked the bundled critter into it, pulling the handles so sides of the bag came up around it to form some shelter.

“There now, you can come home with me and I’ll try to find out who you belong to, mew”

She made a clicking sound which summoned the Lypthet to her side “Come on Bazic, we’re going home”

He had outgrown his carrier a month or so ago and she reached back into the bag for the cat harness she’d used to walk here with him. Clipping him into it quickly (from the past few weeks of practice), she looped the matching light blue diamante leash around one hand, settled the bag with its passenger on her shoulder, and began the rather awkward walk home in the rain...with a BaaBaa safely tucked in a picnic bag.

Figuring Things Out

He looked a lot better once she’d got him dried off. His wool had fluffed out into an aura resembling fairy floss and he’d stopped shivering after the warm bath she’d given him. Though, he probably didn’t enjoy smelling of cat shampoo, it was the only thing she had on hand.

She used it for washing Bazic. The Lypthet was used to frequent baths, as he was always getting something on his pale coat with its blue sheen; even with the regular grooming he performed on himself.

The storm had ceased sometime late that evening and the next morning brought gentle sunshine that made the scattered dew drops sparkle.

Right at that moment, both animals were sitting inside on Bazic’s beanbag bed, curled up together. She hadn’t wanted to let them outside into the muddy yard, so they were inside, on the sunny, tiled floor near the back door, snuggled up on the only pet bed she owned.

Or, to be more precise, her lypthet was using his new buddy as a pillow. Bazic was slightly bigger than a domestic house cat at this stage so she didn’t worry too much about squashing, yet she felt sorry for the little sheepy all the same.

Trying not to disturb them, she crept up as close as she dared in order to snap a photo. With no family members living at home (though she did indeed have a family of sorts), her pet was almost like a child to her. One of her co-workers suggested making a blog or scrap-book out of the photos she’d accumulated so Mey had started to plan it.

“Mrr?”

“No Bazic, lay back down. Close your eyes” she giggled, whispering to her pet as one pointy ear pricked up and he opened a silver eye.

She quickly snapped the photo in the seconds before he moved and stretched; standing on the other pet as though it was a fluffy throw pillow.

“Oh, you’re so mean” The neko teased, though she didn’t move to intervene since Bazic lightly leaped off before she could do anything.

The p***k of claws as the lypthet chirred and stretched startled the Baabaa awake.

Blinking suddenly and looking around with wide blue eyes, it let out a soft sound that mimicked a musical chime, somewhat confused. Ears quivering, the woolly animal stood up and wobbled, trying to walk off the beanbag but only ending up with his stubby legs sinking into the soft beans, treading it like quicksand. “Beeh?” he bleated, a questioning sound, looking up at the neko helplessly.

Meyaira stepped forward, intending to pick it up out of the beanbag bed. A couple of steps had her nearly landing on her face, tripping over something that squeaked indignantly. She gasped and looked down,

“Bazic! I’m sorry! You nearly tripped me you silly thing” she tsked in exasperation, unable to help grinning.

Shaking his head, he trotted back over to nudge her leg before weaving around her expectantly. Food? Food! Food? It was time for food now, wasn’t it?

This was their morning routine. Like most other furry animals, his behaviour around meal times was rather energetic, leaning on the verge of desperate.

Picking him up to tuck under one arm, she bent and scooped up the Baabaa, carrying them both into the back yard for some fresh air. This would get the overeager lypthet out from under her feet while she got breakfast ready.

She placed them both on the patio, sliding the screen door shut quickly and kneeling to pet their heads.

“There there, good boys. Or at least, I think you’re a boy, nya” she smiled, talking to the Baa as it nudged into her hand. He didn’t seem too worried about this whole affair, not like he was pining for an owner.

Still, her plans were to take a picture and ask around. After all, some animals were like that, they’d go home with anybody. She knew Bazic could be lured easily with food. That was something she was working on training him out of.

“Wow, you’re so soft!” She couldn’t help but notice the uniqueness of the Baabaa’s coat, gently petting the floppy velvet ears. It felt like she was touching a cloud. Not like normal wool but something far lighter and finer. It was a shame; she thought momentarily, that she couldn’t just keep it. It was a pretty little thing! And so far, he’d been very well behaved. It was cute and had a certain charm about it. She scolded herself for already growing attachments.

Leaving to get some chicken for Bazic, she came back outside a few minutes later with a tray and a few small dishes. She didn’t quite know what to feed the sheep creature, so she’d grabbed the rest of the salad that remained in the fridge. She set down the other dishes; fresh water and cat biscuits, putting the chicken pieces in Bazic’s usual bowl and refilling his water one with fresh filtered water.

Immediately, the small catlike animal had his face in the food dish, munching down whatever was in it. Her ears swivelled as she scanned the yard for the other pet and she smiled when she saw him under a tree, chewing all the sweet grass.

“There you are! Come on, do you want some of this?” she called, patting her knee as she tried to call it over. Not that she minded it trimming her lawn, (she hated mowing it), but she wanted to see what he’d do. She also wanted him close enough to take more pictures so she could show them around. It was funny he wasn’t afraid of her at all, she being a cat type. She’d had birds and other herbivorous creatures flee or try to attack before now.

Ears made of fluff flipped up when she called him and the blue and white Baa blinked with his mouthful of grass, his stubby tail wiggling. What did she want? She was calling him!

With a happy frolic, he came trotting over across the soggy lawn, collar bell jingling and glinting brightly in the sun. Clicking over the tiled patio, he stopped before her with an inquisitive chime, munching the grass that he’d snaffled.

“Aw, that’s so cute! Good boy” the neko cooed at him, giggling softly. It looked like a wisp of cloud had drifted across the garden to greet her and she couldn’t help comparing him to the bright billows that now decorated the blue dome above.

“I think it may just turn out to be a nice day after all that rain, nyao. Anyway, here, try this cutie-pie…” Pushing the small bowl of salad towards him, she knelt, pulling her digital camera from her pocket and awaiting the right moment.

He snuffled tentatively over, ears forward, sniffing carefully before nibbling around and coming up with a lettuce leaf. It flapped about as he munched on it, ignoring the small click noises that seemed to be coming from the object in the catgirl’s hands.

***

Later that day, she’d taken the images to work, asking around and even getting permission to put some posters up around the shopping centre and the supermarket advertising board. But no one seemed to know anything about Wisp, as she’d taken to calling it. She was tempted to call it ‘cloud’, yet it had been so light and buoyant she couldn’t help but think of it as a wisp of cloud instead, one that was easily blown by the winds. Especially since he had blown in on the gale. He'd also taken to trailing after her everywhere she walked. And somehow, the name had stuck.

The days passed into weeks and she was beginning to think she might be able to keep him when one afternoon, the second week since she found Wisp, she received a phone call, returning the one she’d placed to a friend.

“Yai, I think I have some info on that thing you said you found at the gardens” Aha, it was him. Same old Raiyne, jumping straight in and tossing out the formalities. She was happy to hear from the ‘exotics vet’.

The thing in question was currently snuggled on her lap with his tiny front legs crossed daintily, hooves touching together. He looked up at the sound of the phone call with a blink and a flop of his ears. “Beeh?”

“Hey, he’s not a thing, he’s a …an animal…of some kind” Meyaira answered slightly affronted, giving Wisp a reassuring pat at the same time that Bazic decided to tap the Baa’s head with a paw. (To play with or comfort was questionable).

She’d been working on her new blog when she got the call, trying to type around the two creatures that were currently both on her lap. Fortunately, she always had her mobile somewhere nearby.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t know you were a vet sometimes Raiyne, the way you label animals! Anyway, thank goodness you called back. I’ve had a few phone calls but nobody seems to have a clue what he is or where he came from, nya. This old lady scolded me for taking pictures of my stuffed toys and some other person said I had stolen him. Most of the people from work have been asking around. I’m surprised no one has anything. What were you able to find out, nya?” her tail waved expectantly, knowing he had to have something, since he wouldn’t waste time calling otherwise.

“Oh, you know I don’t mean it. Well, I discovered there’s a small farm out in the more rural areas. The pets they sell there sound highly similar to the one you described. There were some differences in appearance…apparently the one you have now is a final growth stage. However, it doesn’t seem that yours has an owner. I called them to ask if any were missing and they said none that they know of, so maybe it’s a wild one and you got lucky. In the earlier stages, these animals blow around on the air currents so it’s not too far-fetched to assume that big storm a few weeks ago could misplace any wild ones roaming about, though the buoyancy is far less than any other stage and it really shouldn’t happen” There was a pause.

“Unless they’re mistreated; the owner said that the spirits of the wind take away any that aren’t treated fairly. By the way, you said you were running out of grazing grass for it”

“Yes?” she asked curiously, sensing that while he would have a solution, there was going to be some catch. There was always some price to pay with Raiyne.

“Since your back yard is depleted of adequate resources and probably also too small, I have a meadow set aside that you might like to use. I usually keep grazing animals in it but since my last herd of beasts were collected by their owner, I haven’t had anything else in it. It’s free of poisonous plants and other herbs. There’s just sweet-grass and maybe a few dandelions. I have to let it ‘rest’ and clean it up before I bring in any new animals, you see”

The cat girl bit her lip, lightly trailing her clawed index finger and thumb along the edge of her gold cat ear while she figured out the details. “Oh, well…that sounds really good. But I don’t know…” she was too busy focusing on her phone conversation to pay much mind as the Baabaa went rolling off her lap all of a sudden.

Bazic’s ears pricked up and he leaped after his new toy with a gleeful murr. That swat with his paw had sent it flying. New toy, new toy!

The bell on the unfortunate fluffball’s collar jingled along with the soft bleating chimes as Wisp let his astonishment be known before coming to a stop near the TV. He wriggled uncomfortably, starting to fret at being on his back. Baabaas were not that good at getting on their feet from this position!

Bazic chased the ball of wool as it rolled across the living room and came to a stop, watching the hoofed legs kicking the air. It tinkled while it rolled! That was even better.

Bop!

Wisp needn’t have fretted for long. Another swift swat soon had him rolling again, bouncing a few times on his way across the living room in the opposite direction.

He landed on the tiles surrounding the back door, legs spread out underneath him and gave a little shake of his head, chiming softly. That wasn’t exactly fun. Still it hadn’t really hurt either. Mostly, the poor Baa was just happy to be right-side-up again. He was a docile fellow.

“I mean, he really seems to love having company and he follows me around everywhere. I’d feel mean just leaving him in some meadow. But I don’t really have anywhere else either, nya. I…hmm…”

Mey probably should have noticed the cotton ball and the streak of blue-white chasing across the lounge room rug. She’s assumed the glimpse out of the corner of her eye was just Bazic playing with one of his toys, fiddling with her blog post under the photo of Bazic tearing up a sock while also listening to what Raiyne was saying.

“Tell you what” the vet said, “Why not bring him around for Bazic’s check-up today. I can have a look at them both while you check out the meadow. Only condition is you’d have to visit every day and spend time with him. The rest of the time, he’s in good hands. I mean, it’s right next to the clinic and I have to check all of the animals regularly so he’ll be taken care of. Besides, what if you decide you want more of them? You did say it was cute. Adorable. Sweet…maybe we should pay a visit to that farm. Do a little research”

There was the catch. Her ears flickered uncertainly. “You just want to study him! I know!” Mey giggled, completely ruining the tone of accusation she’d been going for.

“Well, yeees. I did say that.” She blushed, admitting to her chosen descriptors with some embarrassment. Perhaps she’d been overzealous in explaining what the Baabaa looked like and why exactly she’d wanted to keep him.

“Okay. You made your point. I’ll bring them both tomorrow after work. But we’re just looking! I’m not going to make any promises about leaving him there” she stated firmly, unable to bear the thought of leaving one of her animals in a field.

The vet did live within walking distance from Mey’s house, yet she wanted to make sure she’d be able to make time to visit like he said. She had a feeling that Raiyne had other plans for that field, the way he’d offered it up so easily. It wasn’t uncommon for all of them to be in use on a rotational basis since it was such a specialised clinic, so why had he got a free field set aside just for her? She would question him once she got there.

“Good. I won’t be able to see you without an appointment, so come in the afternoon when I’m closed to the public” he continued, using the odd nickname that only Raiyne used for her “And Yai, I wanted to talk to you about something. You know, that lypthet, he’s going to…”

“Waugh! Bazic – NO! That is not a toy! Stop it, that’s alive!”

She’d finally spotted Wisp tumbling past when the jingle of his bell and a helpless baa caught her ear along with the recognition that it was a bit too large for a cat toy – it was a dash to the rescue as the poor Baabaa was batted around her house!

The phone was dropped and Raiyne heard sounds of clattering and running steps. So much for telling her his plans…she would just have to find out when he saw her and the little Wisp tomorrow.

A Visit to the Vet

Meyaira fitted Bazic’s light blue diamante cat harness and leash onto him then beckoned to Wisp to follow her out the front door. The small sheep creature clip clopped after her, his bell jingling with each step of his tiny hooves. She locked the door behind her and started walking through the neighborhood in Barton Town, towards the vet clinic owned by her friend. It was late afternoon, and Raiyne had closed to the rest of the public for the day, so she knew she didn’t have to worry about interrupting his work. Bazic trotted obediently on his leash, sometimes frisking this way or that to look at and sniff things but mostly walking alongside her.

Fifteen minutes later, she pressed the doorbell to the vet’s house. Raiyne appeared shortly after and swung open the door, stepping aside to let them pass “Come in, come in. I’ve got everything ready in the back for you, just go on through” he said in a welcoming manner. His eyes trailed the small BaaBaa trotting behind her with keen interest.

“Okay” she nodded and walked down the hallway to the vet office in the back, taking her two pets to the examination room. She picked up the Lypthet and placed him on the cold metal table. Bazic wandered around on it and sniffed at the air, his feelers waving. She petted him and smiled “Good boy. Don’t try to run away now. It’s just a quick check-up” she soothed.

Raiyne stepped into the room and washed his hands, putting gloves on and grabbing his equipment. He walked to the table and smiled, greeting the Lypthet “Hey Bazic. How’s it going lately? Been getting up to mischief?” The Lypthet returned a light chirr and rubbed on him. He chuckled softly, performing his routine examination of the furred creature. He checked Bazic’s ears, eyes, teeth and gums, his breathing, heart beats and limbs, and other things. Bazic sat mostly still and let him get on with it. He was used to this by now and knew what to expect. If he stayed still it didn’t take as long.

Meyaira decided to talk while the exam was being performed “So, how is the sun lion going? Is she happy here? How are her cubs?” she asked curiously, mentioning the other Lypthera that was full grown. Her tail swished idly.

Raiyne answered a bit absentmindedly, busy concentrating on what he was doing “She’s doing well and all the cubs are fine. They’re healthy and growing fast. All of them are glowing like their mother. You can go and visit them once I’m finished here. I’m sure they’d like to see you”. He finished the examination and straightened up “I’m giving Bazic a clean bill of health. I recommend putting some anti-flea, worm tick medicine on him, but apart from that just keep doing what you’re doing” He removed his gloves and went to wash his hands as the cat girl lifted the animal that was the size of a large cat down off the table.

“Okay, thanks” Meyaira knelt and petted Bazic, praising him for his good behaviour and producing a small treat from her hand bag. He took it and settled down to chew on it.

Dr Raiyne came back over and waited by the table “Can you lift the other pet onto the table for me? I’m curious to take a look at him”

She nodded. “Come here, Wisp” she cooed. Meyaira petted the sheep animal gently on the muzzle and ears before picking him up. It felt like she had an armful of an airy cloud; Wisp was light as a feather. Wisp didn’t struggle or try to get away. He stood on the table looking curious and a little bored.

Raiyne started to examine him the same way he had with Bazic. “Oh, interesting. This wool is finer than any sheep wool I’ve seen, even merino wool” he commented. “And it's a very pretty colour. By the way, I was trying to tell you on the phone earlier, I studied Bazic’s brain scans and it does appear to be the case that his brain is developing like a child’s. When he’s full grown, he should be able to talk like us, and he’ll have human level intelligence. But not until he’s fully mature” he said.

Meyaira grinned happily “That’s great news. Wow. Do you think I can teach him to talk yet?”

He shook his head, checking Wisp’s ears. “No, not until he’s at least a teenager. His brain will be like that of an intelligent, well trained pet until then”

He kept looking over the BaaBaa, performing all the routine checks before he was satisfied. “Well, it looks like this little fellow is in good health. He has poor eyesight but his senses of hearing and smell make up for it. Also, the little fabric bits on his head appear to be attached as a part of him so don’t try cutting them off or anything. I recommend purchasing a bristle brush and grooming him once a day to prevent mats and things getting caught in his coat. His wool is very fine. It’s beautiful. Also, I think he’s called a BaaBaa” he scowled and looked away “Kind of ridiculous but I suppose it makes sense. After all it does resemble a sheep”

Mey laughed, picking up her armful of cotton candy pet and nuzzling him happily. His little bell collar jingled. “Oh, that’s adorable! How cute. So you’re a BaaBaa” she smiled, placing him back on the ground. She brought out a zip lock bag of sheep pellets and sprinkled them on the floor for Wisp to eat as a reward for good behaviour. Wisp quietly gobbled them up.

Mey turned her attention back to Raiyne. “Okay, I’ll get a brush today. And should I get him anything else?”

Raiyne nodded “I can give you some shampoo made for sheep especially. It’s probably better for him than the cat shampoo that you use for Bazic. And I’ll give you a flea, tick, wormer treatment made for ungulates”

He paused, going to his desk and picking up a sheet of paper. He walked over and handed it to her “Here. This is the information for the farm where you can find more of these BaaBaa’s. I printed out the map with directions so you can go and check it out if you want”

She took the paper and looked at it “Oh, thanks a lot. I think I will. I see they have all different types of BaaBaa’s from the pictures. Gosh!” she folded the paper and put it in her bag. “All right, I’ll just pay for the check-ups and get the brush and other stuff you mentioned. And then can we visit the Lypthera?” she bounced on her feet a little.

He nodded and laughed. “I also want to show you that field I set aside. I thought it would be a good place for you to keep your BaaBaa’s, or any larger pets that won’t eat the smaller ones”.

“Okay, thanks” she replied, going to the front counter to pay for everything.

A short while later, Raiyne led her to the fenced in paddocks that resided at the back of the clinic and Mey put her bags down and stepped through the gate into one of the larger paddocks. She looked around, searching for the full grown catlike creature that she had met one other time.

Raiyne led her further into the paddock, and she soon saw the mother Lypthera lying under a shady tree, with her four cubs playing and play fighting in the grass around her. This animal was covered in soft fur the same as Bazic, but there were quite a few differences. The fur was bright gold and gave off a glowing aura. The wings had thick creamy and white feathers on them. The tail had a tuft on the end the same cream colour as the wings. The animal had a longer neck than a feline and long whippy feelers either side of her heart shaped nose. She looked graceful and elegant. Raiyne had been calling her a ‘sun lion’ Lypthera, and Mey thought it suited her perfectly.

She walked up to her calmly and knelt down. The Lypthera, who was the size of a medium sized car, leaned down to lick Meyaira’s open palm in greeting, trailing her vibrissae over her. She spoke only ancient Egyptian but Raiyne and Mey had been trying to teach her English words.

“Hello” the Lypthera spoke in a heavily accented voice.

Meyaira giggled. “Hello!” she smiled. “You look lovely today. Are you bored?”

The Lypthera tilted her head slightly, her ears perked, looking as though she was concentrating on the girl’s words. She finally shook her head “No”

The cat girl petted her “That’s good. I guess your kittens, I mean Lypthets, keep you entertained and busy, huh? It must be hard to keep up with four babies” her tail swayed pleasantly as she talked to her.

Bazic ran up and started to play with the Lypthets, which is what the littler versions of these creatures were called.

Wisp on the other hand, hung back, with a small series of chimes. He was nervous around the big catlike creature and didn’t want to get too close. Eventually he sidled up next to Meyaira and pressed himself close to her side. He knew he was safe with his owner.

Raiyne was walking around the paddock, inspecting it for weeds and thistles, inspecting the fence and security cameras, checking the water troughs and inspecting the trees, climbing platforms, dens and other areas. He came back after fifteen minutes or so and looked at Meyaira. She was lying curled up on the sun lion with four little Lypthets snuggled up close to her, receiving pats and attention. Bazic was on her lap, having taken the prime spot for himself. Wisp was standing on her head, looking a bit nervous. All around, the group emanated with purrs.

Raiyne cleared his throat to get her attention “Ahem! Are you ready to come and look at the BaaBaa field or would you be happy to leave him in here?”

Meyaira looked up from the purring pile of Lyptheras “Oh. Sorry. I forgot! Yes, I would still like to see it if you have time to show me around” she blushed “Sorry. We were having fun”

He laughed “I can see that. You can always come back here and play with them more”

“Go” The large Lypthera nudged her and the cat girl got to her feet, picking up Bazic in her arms because he had gone floppy and boneless.

She looked at the mother and the Lypthera smiled and squeezed her eyes slowly at her, before winking just one eye and making a shooing motion with her paw. She said something in Egyptian again that sounded friendly.

Mey went to look at the BaaBaa paddock and she was not disappointed. It had lots of sweet grass, flowers, a small lake, a stream and plenty of trees for shelter and shade. She took Bazic for a walk all around it, Wisp riding on her head and the Lypthet trotting about on his cat leash. Eventually she picked Wisp from off her head and placed him down in the bright green meadow. “What do you think, Wisp? Would you like it here? I’ll visit you every day”

The BaaBaa looked around a bit before running up and rubbing against her leg. He let out a few happy baas and chiming sounds.

“I’ll take that as a yes” she giggled, bending over to pet him. She looked up at Raiyne “You know, I think this will be really nice for him to live in, better than being stuck inside my house or my small back yard. But I think it would be too lonely for one BaaBaa all by himself. He needs friends” she said.

“That’s what I thought you were going to say!” Raiyne grinned “I knew you’d want to fill this place with as many cute BaaBaas as possible. Are you going to visit the farm tomorrow since you’re not working?”

She laughed “You know me too well! Yeah, I’m going to get lots of BaaBaas!”

Strawberry Cream Cake is Introduced to the Flock

Mey had paid a visit to the farm that sold the BaaBaas about a week after her visit to Raiyne. She was often busy with work or doing other things with her friends, so she didn't get to go to places as often as she intended. She was glad she went this day though. She learned that these pets had two other forms, one being a kind of bell and the other being a dander, which kind of looked like the Fluffs that she saw in different parts of Gaia. She came back from her trip to Woolly Windchimes farm with a lovely new pet who she was most enchanted with.

The neko went to her house and collected Bazic on his cat harness, then walked to her vet friend’s house and opened the gate that led into the paddock he had given her. She led the new BaaBaa into the paddock and softly called out “Wisp. Come here boy. Come on, I’ve got something to show you”

A jingling sound was heard as a male Baabaa came running towards them, trotting on his little legs, his light blue collar jingling the silver bell on the front with each step. He ran up to Meyaira’s legs and started nuzzling her happily. He only came up halfway up her calves so her feet and legs were all he could reach.

Bazic trilled and mewed before patting Wisp’s head with a paw and swatting him several times. Mey giggled at them both.

“Hey there little guy. I’m glad to see you too. And I think that’s Bazic’s way of saying hi, nya” she leaned down and petted Wisp gently, scratching behind his ears and pushing her overexcited Lypthet away. After the greetings were done, she turned to look behind her “Come on, then little one. Come out and say hello to your new friends” she said encouragingly, and a pretty female Baabaa stepped out from behind her dress.

The little sheep creature had white, creamy wool with pink swirls and strawberry patterns in it. She had pink speckled, white wings and a sweet tri-colour red, pink and white halo perched above her two little pink ‘bow tie ears’ on top of her head. Her face looked the delicate colour of a pale sponge cake and on the top left side of her head was what looked like a dollop of cream with a strawberry sitting on it. Around her neck was a red collar dotted with little pink dots. It had a white bell speckled with the same sweet pink that swirled through her wool and scattered over her feathery wings. The bell on her collar tinkled as she stepped forwards and let out a soft baa. She bent one leg and halfway spread her wings, giving a polite curtsey to the male Baabaa and to Bazic. Her bright pink eyes blinked as she looked up at her owner, questioning.

Meyaira knelt down and patted her, scratching lightly through the soft, fine wool that covered her back. “That was a very good introduction, nya. I’m sure Wisp will be happy to share his paddock with you” she smiled. The Baabaa closed her eyes happily “Meeh” she said.

Bazic stepped closer to her and sniffed her, taking a big whiff of her scent. He immediately started trying to chew on her wool and lick her all over.

The Baabaa bleated and tried to move away, only for Bazic to follow.

Mey picked up the Lypthet to give her new pet a break “Bazic. I know she smells nice but she’s not for eating. She only looks and tastes like a cake!” she explained, petting her armful of squirming and curious Lypthet as he wriggled and tried to get down.

“She was a special, custom, dessert themed Baabaa” she went on; putting the Lypthet down again, who only went and started sucking on the wool like it was candy.

Meyaira sighed and patted the dessert Baa. “I’m sorry. You must taste good, nya” she sympathised. “Don’t worry, I’ll put Bazic out with the field of sun lions and wash his saliva off you in the clinic. Raiyne has a bath you can use”

Wisp stepped closer to the new Baa shyly. He leaned forwards a little to sniff her. Mmm…what a lovely scent. The Baabaa’s eyes got a dreamy look in them and a faint blue blush coloured his soft wool cheeks. She was very pretty. He leaned a little closer and nuzzled her hopefully.

The dessert Baa nuzzled back with a small baa of greeting.

Meyaira looked pleased at how well her two pets were getting along. “Wisp, this is Strawberry Cream Cake. Let’s just call her Cake for short” she said. Turning to Cake she said “Cake, this is Wisp. He’s a nice little Baa so I think you two will be good friends”

Both Baabaas looked at each other and Meyaira smiled. “Look out for each other, okay? And always run to the shelter if you see any predators. I’ll come by to visit every day and take you with me if I’m going anywhere. I think you will like this place better than my small back yard. I’ll bring you toys and treats and play with you both. I love both of you” she petted each one.

Wisp suddenly turned around and ran off into the paddock. Meyaira watched him go, confused. Bazic was still sucking on Cake’s wool, drooling a bit and happily kneading her side.

Cake sat down, resigned, and let him continue, listening to his contented purrs.

Meyaira sat and waited, beginning to feel worried that maybe Wisp hadn’t taken this as well as she thought. She chewed her lower lip lightly and her eyebrows creased. What if Wisp was running away?

But then she heard the jingling of his bell and his little pattering hoofs and soon enough she saw the Baabaa trotting over to Cake with something held carefully in his mouth.

He stopped in front of Cake and held it out to her, before placing it near her feet. It was a single rose, picked from one of the wild bushes in the field.

Cake sniffed the flower before gently picking it up. She tucked it into her coat beside her wing and nuzzled Wisp, looking happy.

This was the start of a beautiful friendship. One formed to the sounds of a purring, contented Lypthet kneading and sucking on cake flavoured, cotton candy textured wool.
