Week 11: 075 Wheelchairs February 3, 2013

"Why are you in a wheelchair?" John asked as Jubilee focused with her tounge slightly out of her mouth on spinning her new method of moving in a circle.

"Wheelchair race down the stairs, broke my leg." She said as she succeeded and threw her arms in the air with a celebratory 'huzzah'. John shook his head.

"Why are you in the chair again?" John asked, "You have the flow of time at your control, why not zip along it a couple of months when you get out of it."

"Yes, all of time, the entirety of existence is my playground." Jubilee said as she crossed her arms, "I still have to travel through it though."

"So travel back and stop yourself." John said, "you eat paradoxes for breakfast you said so yourself."

"It was fun and it was worth it." Jubilee said as she fumbled with something in a bag, "Besides now we get good parking." She added as she pulled out the blue placard with a white figure in a wheel chair.

"You were told you had to live with the consequences by the old man." John said as he grabbed the handles and began to push the chair.

"He put me in time out."

Week 11: 077 A Panic Attack

My eyes open and the vivid colors of where I had been disappear. I can feel and hear my heart beating faster than my thoughts as I stare at the chandelier on the ceiling and the shadows caused by light from the cracked bathroom door form brambles on the white paint.

A stray hair blows across my neck and the shadows are reaching and stealing the air from my, wrapping around my neck, closing off my throat. The darkened trees outside morph into monsters, the branches outside scraping against the brick and glass as they try to get in. The blankets wrap around my limbs, restraining me, constraining me.

My thoughts race and I only know that I have to get away, that I must run, that I must find safety. I am exposed, far too exposed on my bed. I feel the tears fall from my eyes as I thrash and kick the blankets away and pull the collar away from my neck.

In the midst of all the movement I make it to the side of the mattress and fall to the floor. I am wedged between the wooden frame and the wall, the mess of blankets follow. I am hidden, I am safe.

Eventually my heart beat begins to slows down and my breathing comes back under my control, the tingling and numbness in my limbs and face remains as does the fear. I lean against the wall and wait for it to pass.

Week 12: 078 Black and Blue

"Ow ow ow owowowow," Jubilee whined as John dabbed a wet cloth on her eye, "what are you doing?"

"Trying to figure out how you managed to get yourself beat up?" John said as he placed a separate cloth on her eye that sent a jolt of icy pain through her face, "and why you wanted to go as a bruise for Halloween?"

"I got punched by a ghost." Jubilee said as he took her free hand and placed it over the icepack, "Apparently the house it haunted or at least it was." She leaned over as a wave of dizzyness and headaches passed over her. The explanation did not make much sense to her and she doubted it would make any aloud.

"Let me guess some babble about you both being out of the standard timeline allowing him to give you an exctoplasmic beatdown." John said as he pulled out something that rattled around and made her head hurt worse.

He held out his hand to her and she took the painkillers,"Something like that." She mumbled before she swallowed.

"What no quip about how fast a learner I am?" John asked before he leaned down and pried her eye open, "are you certain you don't have a concussion?"

"Certain."

Week 12: 079 A Beautiful Place

The door opens letting out a blast of warm air and with it goes my breath. The building stretches up and up and up and from my partial view in the entrance it appears that it never ends. The levels stack on each other, stair cases wind their way from one slab of poster covered concrete to the next, and covering every inch of the space in between are shelves twice my height lined with books.

I had once described the most beautiful place in an assignment for school as a library of the universe, a place that had every book that ever was, would, and could be. A place where books wrote themselves and flew around perpetually organizing and filing themselves away. It had been what I had imagined as the most wonderful place, what heaven had looked like.

This place was not it but it had come close.

Week 12: 080 Innocence and Guilt

Who is at fault, who feels the shame?
Who is there to take the blame?
The innocence of the innocent falls.

They say justice is fair, justice is blind.
Justice comes, the guilt-ridden to bind.
The innocence of the innocent falls.

The guilty betrayed, the guilty walk free.
The fallacy of justice when blind men see.
The innocence of the innocent falls.

The innocence of the innocent falls,
when it is the innocent that feel the guilt.

Week 12: 083 Mockingbirds

Lell let the calm waters of the estuary lull her to sleep as the gentle breeze caught the passage of time and lost it among the reeds. She let the flat boat drift and listened to the lapping of the water on the hull as she stared up at the sparse wisps of white clouds as they passed over the bright yellow mass of heat and warmth that was the sun. She let out a whistle and smiled as the sound of the birds called back, another whistle and more joined in.

The sound of an alarm call gave her only a moment's warning before the sky was filled by white birds with grey tipped wings that when outstretched reached longer than her arms. On reflex she sent out her magic into the water as she tested the winds, there was no danger, just the lurking forms of predators that posed no threat to her. She rested her head back on the rolled up red robe she had somehow managed to keep clean and listened as the birds resumed their songs.

It was nothing compared to the song birds her mother had told her about, and that she had been given the chance to hear when she had traveled to the far north in the last war, nothing compared to the song birds in the Lands of the Huethe. She had loved those birds, but she had loved the call of the sea and the wind had beckoned her back. With a wistful sigh that echoed many a thought of the wind she whistled back the songs and in the distance it repeated again and again as the birds picked it up.

She was the fisher, the wader, the crane and the heron. She was the gull and the loon, she was the mockingbird.

Week 12: 084 Always a Bridesmaid February 12, 2013

Always a bridesmaid never the bride
perpetually single, that's just how I ride.
If you ask me out I'll just tell you no,
I have my own drum and I am out of the flow,
No I won't give you my number and digits of phone
No I won't go out just leave me alone.

Week 13: 085 "Break a Leg"

"You know you were not supposed to take the comment literally." John said.

"I know that." Jubilee said as she waited for the elevator door to open, "Stupid superstitious lot you humans."

"So I suppose you never did anything strange to avoid bad luck or bringing bad luck down." John said as he stepped onto the elevator and let Jubilee wheel herself onto it.

"Never." She said, "mine are not stupid as they actually work."

"Right." John said as he pulled the jar of clock hands out of the bag and handed it to her, "because we are going to get our souls sucked out by the alarm clock."

"Not mine, just yours." She said.

Week 13: 086 Taking Initiative

"Moor rats." Lell said before she wiggled her mud covered toes and took off at a dead run down the wood of the dock, she reached the last plank and lept in the air. Her hands outstretched she managed to grab the end of the piling that stuck out beyond the end of the abandoned wooden structure, her fingers hit slime and she felt the sharp edges of barnacles press into her skin and puncture it as she pulled herself onto the top. She looked back at the group she had left and shook her head at them before she turned back to the wooden logs that jutted out of the water at regular intervals. After that is was an easy process for her to jump from one to the next and reach the last log.

The log covered with years of carvings and countless names of wharf kids who had left the boats and the docks for the academy. The log that a name meant grandeur and glory and a chance to become something more. A log that legend said a name would grant the person power over the wind and the waves and the mud beneath the sea. A log that promised a lifetime to land her name among the great spirits.

She stamped her foot on the log and pulled the knife from her belt. She bent down, balancing herself precariously over the edge as she carved her sign into the wood. "Remember my name." She said as she stood up covered in blood, mud, and slime, and barnacle goo. "Remember my name, Lell De' Lae!"

Week 13: 087 College February 15, 2013

"The sedentary vials hat, at, law. Call Ledge? That makes no sense how is that a clue? Who is Ledge" Jubilee said at the silent screen as two people ran after a breakthrough. An annoyed John walked into the room, removed the remote from her hand, turned the volume back on the television and rewound the last few minutes.

"The secretary files at the college."

"Wow, you got one word right." John said as the characters on the television had a scene cut that set them in a college.

"I had two." Jubilee said as she grabbed the remote from his hand, "And I did better than you could have."

"Really?" John asked, "You can match me with lip reading?"

"Yes." She said as the televison was placed on mute once again, "I have had thousands of years to practice."

"And only a few months with English." John said as he grabbed the remote back and returned the sound.

Week 13: 088 Drama Queens February 16, 2013

Thath blocked the blade of his opponent and went in for a strike as he heard what would amount to the cause of all the trouble in his life, the sound of a bucket hitting the ground and a woman shrieking as she was drenched in dirty water.

He lowered his sword as did his opponent as the verbal lashing of a city mage cut through the wind and the heat of a still summer and he joined his class in their excuse to skip practice. He reached the scene to find a red robed mage yelling at a white haired student, one who he would have guessed was old enough to know better than to run into a mage, and a mage who knew better than to yell at a student over the accident.

A quick glance at the face of the white haired student though stopped him from acting, her face was set in an expression of shocked disbelief. "How dare you speak to me like that, I am not a child to be chided. You ran into me." The student said as she picked up the bucket and shoved it into the arms of the mage who had been reduced to stunned silence, "You can clean your own robe." The white haired student then turned on her heel and strutted away.

"Who was that?" Thath asked as the crowd parted to let the student leave and the mage threw the bucked to the ground with orders for someone to clean up the mess.

"That would be Theline De'Lethe highly high strung, slightly slighted, and much to the terror of everyone a drama queen in every sense of the word." One of the students said with a round of agreements from the others who could hear. Had Thath been smart he would have listened to the advice of his teammates, and had he been lucky he would have followed it, but as fate had it neither happened.

Week 13: 089 Unforeseen Tragedy February 17, 2013

No one had foreseen a broken child,
a child that no one noticed.
No one had thought a child could break,
that a child would break,
and still grow up strong.

No one had seen the child shatter and break
and hide the dust from the world.
No one had watched the child pick up the rubble
glue the pieces together

No one had noticed the bits that were gone
or the cracks that always showed

No one had foreseen the tragedy
the tragedy of a broken child
a child that no one noticed.

Well that one almost turned into its own unforeseen tragedy, I think I wrote like three or four different things for this before I just settled on whatever this turned out to be.
