Checkmate is a comic adapted from an original short story written by enchantedsleeper some six years ago. The main characters are chess pieces: ordinary people of two kinds, Black and White, who have never known anything except hatred for the other side, locked in an unending battle out on the Board. Each side fights for their King against the other, never imagining that the balance of their world could be so easily upset.

Cast

Davey

Nineteen-year-old White Pawn; childhood friend
of Danny and Dina. He has been serving his King
on the Board (also known as No King's Land) since
the age of sixteen, when his mother died of an illness.

Dina

Danny's younger sister and childhood friend of Davey.
She is sixteen and has also recently been conscripted
to fight on the Board. Davey, who has been away from
home for several years, does not know about this.

Danny

Danny is a twenty-eight-year-old White Knight, who
was promoted from Pawn status after he crossed from
one end of the Board to the other. He is currently
retired from action due to an injury.

Black Knight

This Black Knight is seen Capturing a White Pawn
in the beginning of the comic.

White Bishop

This White Bishop is seen Capturing a Black Pawn
in the beginning of the comic.
