The girl had leased her Poochyena using some rope and a tent stake. Well, that was one way to set up a watch dog. Pretty fierce little guy too. Just imagine a Mightyena.

"Oh, that's awesome!" said Graham with a grin. He watched as Lee teased the Dark-type by feeding her Turtwig some food, and it looked like it was partially working taming the little beast. "Looks like you're a cut above the other Trainers I've seen around here. Couple of them were completely unprepared for their journey like forgetting to bring camping equipment and making time to actually set up camp before it got late."

He paused. Whoopsie, he forgot the most basic thing to do when talking to new people that he could befriend. "I'm Graham, from Sootopolis."

Yes. That was how it was done.

"Lee from the Orange Islands," she responded easily enough. Wasn't it always funny how Trainers introduced themselves and included their birthplace? She wondered why that was and then shrugged it off. Probably had something to do with determining how far one had come from home. Her father's fame (and her own by association) hadn't followed her from Kanto and its surrounding regions. She'd grown more at ease with herself in Unova, where everyone was famous for something it seemed, but it was still a relief to be unknown. "This isn't my first journey so I know what to expect."

With an irritated "woof" the Poochyena belly-crawled a little closer to sniff the can. Lee pushed it closer to Poochy - there was no way she was hand-feeding the little monster yet. With some suspicious sniffing he took a few experimental licks at the soft food before deciding he liked it.

"Good boy," Lee cooed as Poochy finished the can off and laid down to glare at her with a little less poison in his gaze. She pulled a small bag of hard food out along with a bowl and dumped some out within the makeshift leads reach. Twiggy and Poochy would learn to share and hopefully the Turtwig's own docile personality would rub off on the Poochyena's natural ferocity. "So what's up kid? You just wanted to talk or travel together? My guys aren't strong enough for battles against Trainers yet."

"Orange Islands, huh? Isn't that somewhere between Kanto and Johto?" Graham mused, trying to remember his geography. "Nice to meet you, Lee."

He watched as the Poochyena eventually gave in a little and the girl started feeding the pup. Yeah, it definitely looked like this was not her first journey, like she said. He wondered which region she had gone through before Etrua. Probably Kanto... that was a good starting place for people from the Orange Islands.

Her words snapped him out of his thoughts. "Hm? Oh, no. I have no interest in starting a fight. Especially if those are your only Pokemon. I was gonna suggest travel together. It's more fun traveling with others, I think."

"An archipelago off the coast of Kanto," Lee corrected nicely. She couldn't expect people to know exacting geography after all. "Pleasure's shared. It's been four years since I was on a journey and the last time I traveled with others I had fun." No need to mention that she'd been stalking a Legendary psychic and helping her group root out some Team Rocket hiding spots. Things like that were best left unsaid for now.

Traveling with people meant safety in numbers from the various crime organizations that littered every region along with halving how much one person had to carry. Lee knew she'd appreciate only having to carry one length of rope no matter little the thing weighed.

"Yeah I'll travel with you. Is this your first journey?"

She didn't have to worry about anyone slowing her down this time. She'd given up chasing.

After finishing his riceball, Night would be up and ready for more adventure. "Hey Silver!" he called to the newly captured Pidove. "You mind scouting ahead to see how much farther we are until civilization?" The Pidove nodded and flew ahead, though she would return not but ten minutes later. "Are we at least close to Route 2?" Night asked. Silver shook her head and Night sighed, standing up. He didn't know it at the moment, but there was a small Poochenya who was staring at them from close by.

"Ah. Well, I was close." said Graham, rubbing the back of his head.

Looks like it had been a couple of years since her last adventure, and it seemed like she had traveled with others. So she could totally vouch for the 'more fun traveling together' reasoning. Lee said she would travel with him and asked if it was his first journey.

"Yeah. Kinda hard to go on a journey when your hometown is an island with a natural wall of rock reaching into the sky, with no land around for miles and an angry Gyarados with a grudge against you guarding the entrance. But I did learn a bit about survival skills and it never hurts to be prepared." he said.

Graham then slid his hands in his pockets. "I've got a full team, but it wouldn't hurt to gain a little more battle experience. And you could probably use a few more Pokemon on your team. Shall we explore the tall grass?" he suggested.

Patch could feel that eyes were staring at him, but as he looked around he saw nothing. Even so, the Tepig tried to alert its trainer. "What's up Patch?" Night asked feeling Patch pulling on his pant sleeve. "You find some-." Night cut off when he felt something hit him in the back and knock him face first on the ground.

Moments later, Patch would see a small Poochyna up on his trainer's head. "Do something," Night said through the ground. Patch nodded and turned towards Poochyna, growling to try to get him off. However, the Poochyna simply stayed in place and growled right back. Putting his hands to the ground, Night would push himself up and spit out a mouth full of dirt.

"Yuck," Night said, wiping his tounge with his hands. Turning around, Night would see he'd knocked the Poochyna over and it was growling at him now. "Black," Night said, seeing the Poochyna's black and gray body. "Looks like we've found our next teammate. Silver! Gust!" Flapping her wings, raging wind would spring up and blow the grass backwards. As the wind began to howl and pick up, Poocheyna would find itself carried off its feet and sent flying backwards.

"No one called for Trainers with electric types? A Gym Leader didn't try to handle that issue," asked Lee, shaking her head in astonishment. "Weird."

Lee stood up and stuffed her trash into yet another plastic bag before packing again and dusting off. Tentatively she reached down and patted the Poochyena. He glared at her but allowed the touch and didn't try to snap at her leg when she pulled the stake up and packed it up. It might have had something to do with Twiggy's (relatively) menacing glare and something said in their language that neither human present understood.

"I'm gonna keep you on the lead for now." More trust would come later when Lee was sure Poochy wasn't just going to run back into the wild.

Lee misunderstood, it seemed. Better fix that.

"There was no need for since the Gyarados ignored everyone else. It just doesn't like me at all. I'll probably gain its respect after I complete my journey." he said with a shrug. It was a great story, complete with epic struggles between Man and Beast for survival. But now wasn't the time for it. Maybe during storytime around the campfire when it got darker after a couple of nights.

Graham watched as Lee cleaned up before taking the rope leash the Poochyena had around its neck, then waved her to follow him into the tall grass. Alyss could come too if she wanted.

"Yes there was. When a dangerous Pokemon is a threat to one person then they are an inevitable threat to all people. How did your local Gym Leader not get their license pulled for not stopping the beast?" The disgusted look on Lee's face was justified. What respectable Trainer allowed any Pokemon, especially a Gyarados, a creature known for being a literal sea monster with a foul temper, to terrorize even one person? Did the Trainers where Graham came from just not care about the people around them? That kind of insensitivity to one's surroundings would've gotten severe punishments in the Orange Islands.

"If the beast doesn't like you now then just because you complete a journey somewhere else doesn't mean it's going to automatically respect you. That kind of ignorance is what gets people killed." Was she being harsh? Probably so but she was at least being honest. People only really seemed to interact with Pokemon that regularly were around humans. They didn't usually come face to face with the feral ones that didn't care about badges and only saw anything they could kill as food.

Lee continued walking off into the grass with Poochy on his makeshift leash (not pulling or acting foolishly surprisingly enough) and Twiggy a few steps to his left. It didn't take long for a new potential teammate to charge them.

The newest possible teammate was a Hoothoot that had been startled from its nest. It squawked angrily and charged. Twiggy responded with Tackle and knocked the bird to the ground before it could launch an attack at his Trainer and Poochy. Lee and the Poochyena dodged out of the way before the young woman responded by throwing a single Pokeball at the bird.

The 'ball hit and enclosed the bird for all of five seconds before it popped open again. Lee hissed something uncomplimentary under her breath and pulled two more from her pockets. By then the owl had had enough and it took flight in the opposite direction. Lee gathered her failed 'balls up and tucked them away.

"Oh well. There's more where that came from."

Graham sighed.

"It was my fault the Gyarados was pissed off in the first place. I tried to catch a Magikarp with my fishing skills but it evolved in my hands. I guess it didn't like me clinging to its whiskers after that and one of them might have been ripped off while it was flailing its head around trying to get me off of it? But yeah... Juan's a useless Leader. Wallace was way cooler. Too bad he went and became the Hoenn champion." he said with a shrug.

He wandered in the tall grass as well, but found nothing for the time being. Maybe he should actually roll some dice this time. It didn't seem like Lee had any luck this time catching whatever she was fighting.

"Kid it doesn't matter that you were the one to push the beast's buttons someone with the power to do something about it should have done so. It was careless and reckless. It was evil. Didn't anyone think to call in reinforcements if the Gym Leader was incompetent?" For the moment Lee felt too riled up to properly train anything. The kid's story left her burning in fury. What idiot left a child to face a sea monster alone! If Hoenn's leaders were incapable of protecting their areas then maybe other regions needed to step in and do something.

"Let's talk about something else or I'm going to blow my top." That was the best idea she'd had all day.

Uh oh. Lee was getting upset. Not good. The wrath of a woman would be devastating to all the Pokemon nearby. There had to be something he could do to switch the subject. When she suggested talking about something else, Graham was all too willing to do so.

"So you said you're from the Orange Islands. What's your island like?" he asked curiously.

Just then, the grass rustled and an Audino poked its head through the grass, having sensed Lee's increasing hostility but didn't have the right mind to stay away from it. With a flip of his Pokedex, he learned that the Audino was a Normal-type and it could hear people's heartbeats. That was pretty cool. He had heard something about the people of Unova using Audino as replacement Chansey and Blissey in Pokemon Centers since Chansey and Blissey were not natives to that region. But did he want to fight it though...?

He sent Kippers out for some battle experience, and after a Water Gun to the face, had pushed the Audino back through the tall grass and out of sight. Looks like he wasn't going to get that one. Considering how he only had a single Pokeball left, it would have to have been a shiny for him to actively try to catch.
