Already starting to get burnt out by such a fruitless search, Gage started thinking about other pokemon and his pokemon, wondering where he needed to go next on his search. Bored, he yawned. Even Houndoom was being bothered by all the useless common birds squawking and generally pestering him. Doom shook his head side-to-side, and Gage decided to give the poor thing a break.
Recalling Houndoom, he picked off a new pokeball from his belt. Who else would be good at tracking down other pokemon? Well, Pikachu maybe, or at least, well, Gage wanted to shoot down a few birds for a meal. His Peek formed out of the light and started grooming her fur, stretching, and happy to be out of her pokeball. Gage motioned Peeks over, and she hesitated at first, but then clumsily climbed up Gage's arm to sit on his shoulder.
"We're looking for Eevee, Peeks. Keep your eyes out, and do a good job and I'll probably evolve you today. You know your Thunderbolt, right?"
She nodded, but wasn't sure either about being evolved. Sounded scary.

Gage was already fingering a Thunderstone, the same one he had practically swindled from that Chael kid. He bet Chael wouldn't be taking pity on him a second time like that again, but Gage had gotten what he wanted. Still bored, Gage was yawning again, having had been out all night long.
After this, he was going to go sleep in Blyse, get a warm meal, and then it was out to the Ruins for him. Maybe he'd find something rare over there just to make up for the fact that his luck had soured so much when it came to Eevee.
So Pikachu was doing a rather good job at finding nothing. Her nose twitching, and her big eyes scanning the bushes and grass, she wasn't near as good as tracking as Doom was. But maybe a new pair of eyes was what it would take to find Eevee this time. Gage wouldn't be surprised if just the sulfuric stench of Houndoom was scaring away all the Eevee.

(( Going for broke. Last try. Rarity, coloration, ability x6 ))
Rattata, Bidoof, Patrat, Zigzagoon, Sentret, Pidgey, Spearow, Taillow, Pidove. Hoothoot, Starly, Ledyba, Lillipup, Poochenya, Shinx, Skitty, Audino, Abra, and Ralts - Gage had officially seen everything that Route 1 had to offer. He even once spotted a wild Eevee but didn't have the luck to catch it. So there, if he had a pokedex, it would be chock-full of new entries.
"Peeks, zap down one of those Pidove."
Pikachu jumped off of Gage, and concentrated, aiming carefully - still not used to using such a higher power of electricity yet. Then she let it rip, the voltage sparking off her body and the Thunderbolt electrocuted a passing Spearow. Gage walked over and finished it off by stepping on its neck.
"I said Pidove. Whatever. Ah haha, it's even half cooked already."
Picking up the dead Spearow, now Gage had lunch for later, and he tied its feet to his belt, walking on for one last good search for Eevee.

Well, that was that. Turning to Alyss, he said,
"I think this is getting ridiculous. Let me go get Ralts to give to you." Holding one hand over his heart. "I am a man of my word. Wait out here, I bet you'll find the Eevee by the time I get back. Or well, you never know."
Walking off of Route 1 and into Blyse, Gage didn't waste much time. He grabbed the pokeball with Ralts in it, dropped off the dead bird at a local butcher shop, bought a soda pop, and headed back out to Route 1. He did find a shiny Ralts on the way back, which was just hilarious, considering that he was planning on giving away that female Ralts. One pokeball, one capture. Pikachu clapped her hands, back to riding on Gage, and made her trainer laugh with the applause.
"Please, I have luck when it comes to everything EXCEPT Eevee."
Tossing and catching the pokeball, Gage sauntered back up to Alyss. It was easy to find her. She was the one finding all the Pidgey and Ralts. Gage held out the pokeball for Alyss.
"Here you go. I haven't nicknamed her, and she has Trace, so I think she'll make a strong member for your team. Only level 7 but that means she knows Confusion now. You can keep my empty pokeball too, just in case, yeah?"

"Elusive buggers."
Gage was hiding his own excitement, hands back in his pockets, loving to watch even other trainers attempt to catch something rare. However, before the Eevee got too far, he threw the pokeball for Houndoom, letting the beast out.
"Quick, follow the trail of that Eevee, but don't harm it, got it?"
Houndoom coughed in disagreement, but his trainer was the boss after all, so let Gage worry about actually catching the thing. Doom sniffed the ground, and galloped off in the direction the one other Eevee had gotten off to.
"Well, might as well try, right? I suppose we should head to Blyse to make an official trade, unless you've decided you want to keep the Eevee instead of get a Ralts for it."
There was no wonder Eevee were so hard to capture. They had the best places to hide, that even they could escape a huge unholy wolf many times their level. Houndoom was already back, angry and covered with prickers and burrs. Gage winced, but already started to pick them off of his black fur coat and tossing them aside.
"Good try anyway, chief."

Yeah, Gage had a feeling that after all that hard searching that Alyss would be tempted to keep the second for her own, but he breathed his own little sigh of relief when she still was going to go with the trade.
"Thanks, you really don't know how big that is of you to keep our deal."
Houndoom shook hard, dislodging the rest of the burrs, once Gage had gotten the difficult ones. Clean again, now Gage walked with Doom, and Peeks attached onto the brown poncho over his shoulders like a big rodent Joltik.
In the pokecenter, he was right behind Alyss, fighting the happy smile when he saw the Eevee's pokeball. But then he went ahead and grinned that he finally had one of his own. Maybe he would make a sudden change to his team, keep it as one of his mains, just to rub it in Chael's face when he had a better trained Eevee evolution.
"Now I know I'm in your debt. You gotta understand, it's better to make friends around this place than enemies, and you certainly made one guy really happy. Can I buy you lunch to celebrate, or is that too weird for you, kiddo?"

(( ... I just rolled for Eevee's coloration and ability, and I got a 98 for ability. You just got me my Magic Bounce Espeon by catching the Eevee. You ARE my favorite person right now. ))
"What do you like to eat? If you don't know, then I know this great sub sandwich place not far from here. You can totally pig out, all on me."
So the Ralts was officially traded for the Eevee. Deal done. He didn't except it to be a high level at all, but with the Eevee in his possession, Gage checked the stats on the newly caught little fox to see what ability he was dealing with.
Gage choked and looked woozy. This Eevee ... it had Anticipation. That meant he could evolve it into an Espeon with the godly Magic Bounce ability. Gage had to sit down, and Pikachu looked at his face, pulling off his sunglasses to see if he was alright. She tilted her head to the side, confused, and for fun, put Gage's sunglasses on herself. Gage didn't care, he was still in shock.
"Wait ... y- ..." Gage dry washed his hands over his face. "You know you just traded me a Dream World Eevee, did you? I have a shiny Ralts that would be a more fair trade ... or well, let me see. Any of my pokemon look like a better trade? I wouldn't want you to come back and say that I ripped you off. Hell, I'll buy you a steak dinner if you want."
