The Skyclan camp

Crowstar
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXEven the hardest stone has it's cracks

The large black tom rolled over in his nest and opened his dark amber eyes. The den was dark, not sunlight coming in at all, yet the cat knew it was morning. He let out a long sigh and blinked a few times. He was a young cat, not even twenty moons old, yet here he was... as leader. It had been a shock when, in the midst of the large battle, Mudstar had turned to the newlymade warrior, on his last breath, and told him he was to be SkyClan's deputy. The past deputy had just passed on and then it was Mudstar. Leaving SkyClan with a terribly young leader that wouldn't be deputy for a day and had never mentored an apprentice in his life. Everything about his leadership was against the warrior code, yet StarClan had accepted him. So, the newly made Crowsong had become Crowstar in less then one moon. He now had a few moons of leadership but he was still young and unexperianced. Crowstar knew his clanmates doubted him and he didn't blame them. They had a the right. Only moons ago, he had be the rebellious apprentice that had disappeared on a journey with five other apprentices. His journey had been long and hard but he had found himself on that journey, along with love and friendship.

The large cat stood up and padded outside of his den and into the bright sunlight. He took a deep breath of freak air and sighed. It was a beautiful day and the tempature was great. Crowstar padded into the center of camp and gazed around. Hopefully some cats would be up soon so the patrols could be sen out and things could get moving.

Violetpath woke up and padded out of her den, blinking in the sun light. Her eyes fell on a firmiliar spot and she frowned slightly. Had it only been 12 moons or so since she had sat in that very spot as an apprentice and talked to Fallenpaw? It seemed so much longer since she'd been that... Care free. The death of her mentor and her gaining her own apprentice had added a lot of pressure on her. Not that it wasn't unwelcome though--She loved being a medicine cat. Suddenly, a movement caught her eye and realised she wasn't the only one awake. Crowstar stood in the middle of camp and she dipped her head to him in respect when he noticed her. She walked over to a patch of sunlight, going over what herbs in her mind that she'll need to get that day, along with her apprentice. We're almost out of chervil and daisy leaves. Also, we should probably grab some tansy while we're out...

It was astonishing how quickly young Crowstar grew from an apprentice, into a warrior, and finally found his way among the ranks of leadership. It was not only some moons ago that the young tom had dissapeared after some mysterious prophesy, leaving his clan mates in wonderlust. However the young Crowpaw had returned a changed tom, having grown and matured on his journies, it was astonishing. However the changes were for the better, as Crowpaw was no longer a rebellious young tom, but a feline who finally understood the world, he was a leader. Even so, it came to a great surprise when Mudstar appointed the newly made warrior to be his deputy in his dying breaths. And with that, Crowsong became leader of Skyclan, perhaps the youngest leader Skyclan had ever seen. Crowstar was still so young, and inexperienced, yet he had learned well from the world around him and would make a fine leader. Upon recieving his nine lives, Crowstar appointed Fallenheart's former mentor to be his successor, which perhaps wasn't such a bad idea. Quailfeather was a senior warrior and had seen much in his time. He could assist Crowstar when he needed it, for age came with wisdom. However Quailfeather was no longer a spry and young warrior, for time was wearing at his bones. A few moons later, the humble tabby carefully stepped down from his rank, where he would take up residence in the elders den.

And that's when Fallenheart came along. The young tom was just shy of twenty five moons when he was appointed Crowstar's new deputy. It had come by surprise, naturally. And with fumbled words, the charcoal tom accepted his leader's request. Now, he padded in the paw prints of his mentor, and many deputies before that. Crowstar and Fallenheart had both settled into their positions, neither exceptionally experience, but surviving nonetheless.

Even now, they were surviving. The dark warrior padded briskly along the edge of the camp, making haste toward the warriors den after just having assessed the fresh kill pile. The tom looked up through bright honey golden eyes, as if just having noticed Crowstar and Violetpath. A purr rose up in the tom's chest, and he dipped his head in greetings to the leader and medicine cat. Now, Fallenheart ducked his head into the warriors den, frowning at the dull and sluggish light as compared to the bright of the clearing. Clearing his throat, the tom sat back on his haunches. "
Rise and shine! I'm going to need some warriors for a border patrol, any takers?"

The tattered tom ducked out of the elders den, his movements stiff from having been still after a long night. The tabby was no longer the spry young tom he used to be, but rather a seasoned warrior, neigh, elder, residing in the heart of Skyclan's camp. Quailfeather had seen many moons in his time, the great rises and falls of Skyclan, and somehow lived through it all. He'd been a young warrior once, full of ambition and drive. Perhaps the greatest achievement any warrior could have, was mentoring a young one and seeing them become warriors themselves. Quailfeather had done just that, having mentored many ambitious apprentices that would one day become the future of Skyclan. The last apprentice the old tabby would ever possess, of course, would be young Fallenpaw. A mild natured tom who carried the blunt of the world on his shoulders, yet had a resilience to walk with it all on his back.

Quailfeather was once proud to be Skyclan's deputy, but after Mudstar's death and Crowstar's rise as a young leader, his body wasn't what it had used to be. It had been a great honour, to be chosen as Crowstar's successor. But Quailfeather would never live to see the day. His joints didn't move as they should, not anymore. Eventually, the lanky tabby would retire to the elders den. He did no regret his decision that day, as his very own former apprentice would be appointed in his place. Fallenheart had a lot to learn, both the young toms did, but they would allow Skyclan to succeed and thrive.

Quailfeather often missed the days when he felt young and unstoppable. But never did he fret about it, because he relived those days in his memories. Even now, as the raggedy, unsteady tom sauntered out of the elders den, he carried his head with a dignity and mild grin upon his maw.
