Name: Rissa
Age: 25
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Minecraft (Mason/Stone Carver)
Rank: Apprentice
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Rissa is slim, with an athletic, muscular physique that is the result of her current craft. She has olive toned skin that darkens slightly in the sun. Her hair is dark and curly. She usually leaves it long, but ties it up with a scarf when she's working. Her eyes are a dark, dark brown, appearing almost black.
Personality: Being raised in a Weyr, Rissa has a strong sense of duty and loyalty; to her friends, to the Weyr, and to Pern. She has an 'if not you than who?' kind of attitude, never shirking responsibility when it is handed to her. She was raised to believe that those who live and work in the Weyr are the protectors of their world, and that they have a responsibility to fulfill this obligation in any way they can.
Rissa is not the easiest person to engage with. If something doesn't interest her, it simply doesn't interest her. Nothing will change that. Honest to a fault, she doesn't mince words or feign interest as a social courtesy. She is very blunt in expressing her opinions.
She will do anything for her friends, however, and that includes letting herself be dragged into things. Whether it's meeting new people, going to that gather, or (ugh!) even wearing a dress. She's easily led around and puts up little resistance to those she loves, however much she may grumble about things. Subtlety and compromise are somewhat lost on her. Either she'll go along with everything, or dig her heels in utterly. Even when it comes to her own craft, if she isn't interested in the particular project, she needs to be dragged into it sometimes. She always does her work, if begrudgingly, but it can take her a great deal longer when she simply can't find the motivation. She finds it hard to make herself care about things, even when she knows logically that it has to be done, and she may spend days or more simply staring at the stone, waiting for inspiration.
Rissa is not a terribly interesting person to talk to. Her passions are slim, and even then she doesn't see a lot of point in going on about them. She's a good person to talk to when you have a specific problem or need to get something off your chest. She'll always listen attentively, and offer her best advice. But when it comes to small talk, she's never shy about stating when she's bored by someone, or when she doesn't find what they're saying interesting.
Positive Trait List Loyal, Artistic, Hardworking
Negative Trait List Disinterested, Unsympathetic, One-track mind
History: Rissa was born to two riders, and given up to the creche as one would expect. She never really connected with her foster parents, and was left somewhat emotionally stunted. She didn't really come out of her shell until she made friends with some girls who could see past her cold exterior, who more or less dragged her out of it.
Though seemingly unfeeling, simple-minded, or stoic, Rissa was artistic ever since she was a child. She kept a sketch pad and made frequent drawings of her friends, dragons, or various scenes around the Weyr. She would make art of anything she got her hands on- metal wire, her lesson books, even a cave wall and a bit of charcoal. When she struggled to connect with people, it was a bridge that often let her in.
Rissa tried several crafts when she came of age, but the only one she showed real promise or interest in was stone carving. The stone shop was one of her favorite hiding spots as a child, and she liked to listen to the crafters work. The first time she sank a chisel into the stone, she knew she'd found her medium. There was a mason at the Weyr that she was able to apprentice under, and took to the work eagerly, excited to learn.
As an eligible weyrbrat, Rissa stood for a several turns when she was young, but gave it up in her late teens to focus on her craft. It's said that masonry is a craft that can take a lifetime to master, and Rissa is still an apprentice after so many turns. The return of thread has caused an increase in demand for stone buildings, and Rissa spends a lot of time travelling to near by Holds as well as working in the Weyr.
Growing up in the Weyr, Rissa has several friends (and family!) that are dragonriders. Being raised at High Reaches, she wasn't overly surprised when thread returned, as they'd always been taught it would. She worries for her friends, but believes they are doing their duty as anyone should. She might've considered returning to Candidacy, but being only a little more than a turn away from aging out, it didn't seem worth the effort. Instead, she's doubled her efforts building stone homes and volunteers to help whenever an opportunity arises.
