Stuff happened.

(XD Elsie was handed a wiki link)

Elsie was interested in Hogsmead, but any questions were silenced when the class started. She instead tried to stand still while she waited for the class to all call their broom. The downside to knowing what she was doing, she had to wait. While she looked around, she was starting to be uncomfortable when she realized how many of her classmates were struggling and how easily she was able to get her broom to come. Not liking any eyes on her, being reminded of her embarrassing morning, but she quickly pushed those thoughts aside. She tried to not watch others, since it felt like many were watching her as well. Elsie was starting to wish she had taken it easy. But a tiny part of her was really happy she was not out of place. Which made her glance at Kyra. Poor Kyra... Elsie thought. She was wondering how she could help her friend without saying anything. Frowning slightly, she realized there was nothing she could do at the moment. She tried to not draw any attention to Kyra, and planned on offering help after class. Hoping Kyra would not take any offense. It sounded like a reasonable plan when the muppet spoke. Loudly. Slitting her eyes in fury, Elsie realized it was going to be very hard to not smack that slimy git. She was very glad she had talked to Markelm earlier. She took a calming breath but gripped her broom wanting to smack him with it.

Her anger stayed when she heard Professor Normal instruct them to do the next step. Not wanting to be ahead of anyone, Elsie waited until most of them were busy trying to kick off before she slipped the broom between her legs and kicked off; sliding her feet to the metal stands and she hovered. The rush of flying healed her anger while the memories flooded to her mind. She remembered the tiny flying lessons, how Markelm told her to control the broom. Slipping her hand along the broom to keep it steady; Elsie forced herself to not fly off. She did not want her broom taken away. Oh; this is a tease... she thought with a sigh and she tested the limit as she hovered a bit higher. There was a burst of giggles coming from where the cute Slytherin boy was. She leaned forward on her broom to sneak a glance seeing another boy had crashed and fallen. Elsie hid a smile, not wanting Kyra to think she would be teased by her. Speaking of the muppet, Elsie glanced at him and had a brief daydream of him being the one that crashed. She almost got her wish when he saved himself. Bullocks. She thought with a slight scowl. She glanced at the other boy she had noted earlier and saw he was keeping his cool; though wobbling as he could not get the broom fully off the ground. Glancing at Kyra, Elsie saw her friend was not even close to taking off the ground. Dismounting with a sidestep, Elsie whispered to Kyra, "Try to trust the broom. It listens if you relax."

Professor Normal went over to a young Ravenclaw, a young lad that was adjusting his glasses with annoyance as he once again set the broom on the ground. The broom hardly left the ground, and when he called it to him; it moved too fast for his comfort. He noticed the Professor was walking over and tried to regain his cool. He heard others talking to the broom; one was even cussing. Why was he singled out? He thought with a heavy sigh. His father would never let him hear the end of this. He thought while he was gently told how to fix not only his stance, but his hand placement and tone of voice. Professor Normal then walked to another child and tried to help her not fall; but got there too late as she fell backwards and almost knocked over a classmate. "I want you all to take care in your commands. Don't feel the need to force control; the broom will listen to your slightest touch." she said to the class, while she suggested to the girl getting up, to try and hold the broom handle as if it were an egg. Professor Normal paced a little watching as eventually the majority of the class were hovering in some form. There were four students that were unable to kick off. The silver haired witch Kyra was the first the Professor came to. She overheard the redhead Elsie try to give advice and watched to see what Kyra would do.

Fawn did just that as she was tasked with leading the way. Asking Fawn to lead anything was bound to either end in disaster, or just become far more complicated then need be. Unfortunately for Gina, Fawn had no clue where the Owlery was. She just knew it was outside somewhere and even getting that far became a daunting task because Fawn had a tendency to stop and look at random objects. And Hogwarts had a lot of random objects. Pictures, glass cases, or suits of armor all seemed very fascinating and it didn't help that Fawn engaged in many conversations with the people in the paintings. Fawn found the people in the paintings very intriguing and only ended her conversations and continued on their quest because Gina prompted them forward from time to time. Even having a linear conversation with Fawn was difficult as Gina would soon find out as she'd either answer questions with random non-related answers, or half truths or even lies. She had the tendency to talk about random things, like Unicorns. Eventually they did exit the castle out into the cool breezy air of the clock tower courtyard. This courtyard was encased on three sides by walls with open arches. Straight north, heading away from the castle was the very distinct wooden bridged walkway that took students over a deep crevice in the ground and into another building, right outside of which was a circle of stones with 3 different path ways leading away from it. To the west was the Groundskeepers hut, and to the east the Owlery and further east the quidditch fields.

Fawn was forced to once more equip her glasses as greens, blues and buildings blended into one indistinguishable image. Having the world back in focus made it easier to focus also as she ran from one side of the entrance to the other, looking at the various buildings and landscapes on both sides of Hogwarts castle. Fawn could make the forbidden forest out to the north, and without looking at her traveling companion behind her she excitedly began to babble. "Do you think they'll let us go there?! The forbidden forest? And what exactly do you think its... Ooooo... I bet there are all sorts of fascinating things in there, like Tyrafinkles and Goosewiggles and lillypounds. OH oh oh! I think that's it, that tower over yonder!" Fawn exclaimed with more excitement as she pointed north west towards what appeared to be a raised rocky out crock with a tower stationed upon it and stone steps leading up to the tower. "I do hope Mr. Hooters is doing alright.. He's such a little owl.. I'd be most terribly upset if the other owls are picking on him.."Fawn made one last lap around the courtyard before stopping right next to Gina. "Well, lead the way!"

Kyra began to feel herself fill with a combustible mixture of anger, frustration, embarrassment and depression and fear at her continued failure of getting the broom to cooperate. She could only wish that he broom was broken and despite a couple more feeble hops up off the ground she knew it was all an facade. She didn't want to fly, she didn't want this broom in her hands, her fingers digging deep into its grainy texture. Tears began to form at the corner of her eyes as she bowed her head forward, her hair swaying in front of her face to hide the swirl of emotions. She was locked between her desire to succeed and be the model student her mother expected of her and her fear of flying, heights and broomsticks. Even without looking up she could feel the red hot gaze of eyes looking her direction, and Professor Normal's gaze was the worst. The last thing Kyra wanted was for a teacher to think she was a failure.

Kyra began to tremble every so slightly as her knuckles turned red and her heart began to speed up. She was now no longer even trying to fly, just standing there frozen with a broom handle grasped between her fingers, her mind frantically trying to process the best way to handle this scenario. Elsies words did far more harm then good as Kyra finally snapped, her head snapping up as anger filled her eyes. "RELAX? IT LISTENS IF I RELAX? HOW CAN I RELAX WHEN I CAN"T EVEN FLY A STUPID BROOM!" she screeched suddenly in anger, fear and frustration, yanking the broom out from between her legs. "NO ELSIE, I CAN'T TRUST A BROOM. I HATE FLYING!!" She continued, her barrage being wrongly directed at her friend even if the fault lain within herself. Elsie wasn't even aware of Professor Normal, or at the kids who were stopping to stare at her. Some even lost control of their brooms as all eyes went to the silver haired girl loosing her temper and cool. Kyra raised the broom up in both hands and angrily tossed it on the ground, then stomped on it as if it was all the brooms fault. She then rounded back on Elsie and pointed at the broom. "If your so good at flying then why don't you just take my broom too! I'm not learning how to fly, EVER!" she finished in another angry fit before finally noticed that Professor Normal was standing right in front of them. Kyra panicked as she went quiet and tears began to freely spill from her eyes and down her cheeks to land on her robes and feeling no other option was left to her she twirled around and started to run back towards the castle, though in her panicked state and with tears blurring her eyes she more stumbled away from the class. Kyra couldn't quite control her legs and was beginning find it hard to breath between her sobs, causing her lungs to burn. The pounding in her ears drowned out all noise behind her as she feebly attempted to escape.

Clyde was continuing to enjoy his boast of confidence as he finally got the hang of just free floating on his broom, now taking care to keep both hands on his broom as opposed to one. Clyde was in the middle of quietly talking quidditch with the boy next to him before his, and the rest of the classes, attention was suddenly diverted to the frantic screaming girl who seemed to be unleashing her anger out on the red headed girl who was still hovering on her broomstick. Clyde's mouth dropped open in astonishment as the scene unfolded before him and with his attention suddenly diverted his broom dropped to the ground. Clyde grunted as his butt hit grass, but he didn't take his eyes off the screaming girl who was quickly unraveling.

Joanoah, like the rest of the class looked across the lawn at Slug who suddenly exploded. Some people gaped, others whispered to their friends, and his fellow slytherin responded to the situation by pointing, joking and then laughing while chanting SLUG SLUG SLUG. Joanoah didn't participate in the laughing as his narrow keen eyes watched, his mind mentally filing away the information he gained from this. If he was going to win Slytherin the house cup this year, every detail about every student was valuable and to know that Slug was both a horrible flyer and could crumble under certain stresses was very good to know. A smile spread across his lips as he continued to hover on his broom. It would take a lot more than that to interrupt what little concentration it required to sit on a broom.

Gina immediately regretted letting Fawn lead the way, but she followed nonetheless. She was actually finding herself interested in the conversations held with the portraits. She was glad her first guess about the girl was right, well second guess about the girl. Fawn was fun. Though, her first guess was correct as well. Gina thought as she yet again pulled the easily distracted Fawn back on the path to the owlery. Anytime she tried to talk about school or classes, Gina found that Fawn was just too random to keep focused on a single conversation. Gina was alright with that though, she did not mind the topic. She liked the company. Even if she sometimes felt like she was going in circles.

Eventually they exited the school. Gina was surprised to see Fawn pull out glasses, which explained the lack of personal space and her talking to statues... well it hopefully explained some things anyway. "I hear students get lost in there all the time. But I don't know much about it..." Gina said with a slight blush, hidden by her darker skin. She glanced at the woods and was rather glad Fawn did not suggest they go in. It looked scary, and sounded dangerous. From all the stories she had heard. Gina cleared her throat, and refrained from asking what a Tyrafinkles, Goosewiggles and lillypounds, were. She had never heard such names, but she had a lot to learn about the world of magic. At first Gina started to follow Fawn then she stopped and watched the girl wander around talking about her owl. "What type of owl is he? I thought all owls were big. The ones at my farm sounded large at least, they hide a lot so I only get to see them in the shadows." When given the lead, Gina gladly took it and glanced up at the only tower visible. She hoped that was the owlery; there was a bird flying out. So it made sense. She nodded then led the way to try and find the entrance to the tower.

She found the entrance and pointed to the door above them which was connected to a flight of stairs. The stairs were outdoor leading all the way up to an open door showing there were owls all over the place. Gina circled the tower to find the entrance of the staircase, then started walking up. Glancing at the steps; she was disliking the bird poop and was trying her best to avoid stepping in it. "How long have you had your owl?" She asked trying to make conversation; to distract herself from the gross.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elsie noticed Kyra was upset, but she did not realize how upset until she spoke and Kyra exploded. Eyes wide, Elsie just stared at Kyra while the girl said how much she hated flying. She even took a step back when Kyra started to stomp on the broom. "Kyra..." she started to say, wanting to comfort her friend and explain she had a few lessons. Though, she did not struggle with flying. She struggled with even being in this school, with all the new experiences. So she understood somewhat what it was like to feel like an outcast. Elsie felt like that a lot at her old school even. Kyra then freaked, Elsie also noticed all eyes were on Kyra. Before she could say anything, Kyra started to run off. Elsie had no idea what to say, a part of her wanted to run after her friend. Then she froze, panic swam through her mind wondering if she even had a friend anymore.

Professor Normal watched the fit calmly; she always had one or two students who have hated flying. It is usually connected to a fear of flying, though it was drama. And Professor Normal disliked drama. She would have to try talking with the girl to have some one on one lessons. To prevent the girl from flying off the handle down the road. Especially since Abby Normal knew Veronica. This would be an interesting conversation... Abby thought trying to hide her unease. "Miss. Hallow... ". She started to say when the girl scrambled and was running off. "Miss. Hallow, if you leave this class you will have detention. The rest of you, eyes forward and focus on your brooms. I want you all to summon your broom to you; feet back on the ground. " the Professor said, acting quite stern. If Kyra stopped, she would go over to talk; but if Kyra left, the Professor would have to focus on the children before her and finish the class. She would not let them go flying now though. She would try to calm Kyra, if the child stayed. If not she would command the class to simply do broom summoning drills. If Kyra stayed, Professor Normal would state, "Miss Hallow, you may take a moment to collect yourself; then we can talk. Take heart, there are many who struggle with flying. It is something one can overcome with patience."

Gripping the broom, Elsie's heart was not into flying anymore. She felt a lump in her throat as she tried to not panic about losing her new friend. She saw the other kids were still looking at her, whispers were arising while the Professor demanded they go back to their broom lessons. Elsie was unable to focus on her broom, she felt ill and was dreading the end of class now.

"That's all the more reason to go into the Forbidden Forest! To unlock all its mysteries and hidden treasures! That's probably why they don't want anyone to go in there.. too greedy to share the good stuff inside it." Fawn tried to reason and was apparently oblivious to the actual dangers of the forbidden forest which she figured she'd explore soon enough. Fawn was also oblivious to how her current exploration buddy responded to the ideas of exploring the forest, and didn't even notice the blush on the dark skinned girl. "Type of Owl? Uhhhhh Hrmmmmmm Emmmmmmm Guhhhh.. I think the guy said it was a Eurothian Beagle Owl or something.. I dunno." She replied, not quite remember that the person she got it from named it an Eurasian Eagle Owl. It was an overly complicated Owl name anyway, not something simple like "Barn Owl" so Fawn didn't sweat the details on what its species was.

The closer they got to the Owlery, the more excitable Fawn became, almost jumping with joy as the circled the tower and found the steps. Fawn took the steps with wide strides, not a care in the world about the heinous amounts of Owl droppings that covered most of this structure. The smell didn't seem to bother her, nor the loud noise of the many Owls inside the building. "Got him two days ago. Just before leaving for Hogwarts. But were already best friends and eternally bonded." She replied as they crested the steps to the domed building that housed the owls. A archway with some stairs leading down led into the main building of the owlery and the bird poop here was far worse. Sitting above and around them were dozens of owls perched in little alcoves that lined the walls of the structure. On each side of the room were open squares to allow the owls to fly in and out but most of the owls were inside, away from the day light and many were sleeping despite the noise of many owls that were still awake. As Fawn pranced down the stairs she called out loudly, much to the annoyance of the Owlery's occupants. "MR. HOOTERS! COME HEEEEREEE" Her call was answered almost immediately by very large female owl with the wingspan of almost 5 ft. The owl fluttered down off its alcove and landed on Fawn's head, making the girl let out a light oooof sound as the 6 lb bird used her head instead of shoulder to sit upon. The bird was obviously being very ginger with its talons though as Fawn didn't show any signs of discomfort, instead she giggled and pointed up at Mr. Hooters, the female Owl. "She seems to be doing pretty well."

The voice behind Kyra began to fade the further from the quidditch patch she ran, and even the calling of Professor Normal did nothing to slow her stride. Long legs carried her across the ground rather quickly even in her panicked state and for once she wasn’t moving slow with trained proper steps. Only after she had returned to the interior of the castle did she began to gather her calm as she realized the halls weren’t empty, and those students she passed ,most older than herself, were giving her queer sideway glances. Kyra began to sniffle quietly as she brought her robes up to her face to clear her face of tears and to catch her breath. She veered off into an empty hallway and found a bench to sit on, her head swimming still with emotions and negative thoughts. She couldn’t believe she just ran out on a class the way she did, and she didn’t think about returning because of the fresh memory of laughter coming from some students, mixed with a huge dose of embarrassment. It had been a long time since she had a panic attack as strong as that one, but it had also been a long time since had been on a broom, and that experience ended horribly. Enough so the put a permanent fear of brooms, and heights into Kyra. Both her parents had probably figured she had gotten over her fear of flying, but her mother was sure to hear about this… and now she dreaded seeing her mother next. I’ve already skipped one class… I could always skip Herbology she thought, but knew that would be futile. There was no way she could dodge her mother for a week.. much less a day even. If her mother came for her, then Kyra couldn’t run or hide. Several minutes went by as Kyra sat on the bench and continued to calm down. She felt silly.. embarrassed.. but worst of all she felt like a failure. Her parents placed high expectations on her and just one day in and she was already failing them. She almost decided to just walk the plank and go to her mother now but wasn’t sure if she was teaching a class or not.

”I've really made a mess of things... oh noo..” Kyra groaned as the memory of yelling at her friend suddenly resurfaced and the shocked expression on Elsies face. Now she felt even worse than before as a new pile of guilt dropped on her consciousness. She just hoped that Elsie didn’t take her yelling too hard or personally. Kyra would apologize of course and she knew the sooner the better. Slipping off the stone bench she poked around Hogwarts castle for the nearest bathroom. As soon as she found one she took several minutes to make herself presentable, fixing her hair and trying to wash the redness from her eyes and face. She found a couple scrapes on her knees and legs, having apparently stumbled and fallen during her panicked fleeing and she did her best to wash and dry to scrapes before she left the bathroom. Near enough time had passed now that flying lessons would be over soon. Thankfully nobody had come for her yet so she made her way towards the large doors that led back to the quidditch patch. Kyra didn’t want to be noticed when class returned… especially by the slytherin students so she found a alcove with a bench and placed herself in it in a way that would shadow her from passerybys. She’d just have to wait for Elsie to walk past and then catch her as students scrambled in other directions.

The professor managed to quickly regain control of the class and Clyde didn't have to worry about getting his feet back on the ground, as his butt was already there. He coughed and stood up, but it seemed nobody had noticed or even cared, after the fiasco the girl named Kyra just put on. There were some groans of disappointment as those who were still hovering were ordered to stop and there was still a good bit of quiet snickering coming from the party of slytherins. The rest of the class became quite the bore as it became quickly apparent that they wouldn't get the chance to go airborn now.. and Clyde found himself resenting the girl for her little tantrum. He didn't seem to be the only one either. Clyde continued to chat on and off with those around him as class went on and winded down, waiting for the bell to ring or the teacher to dismiss them. Once class was over he'd go off somewhere outside. No use going back to the castle on such a nice day.

The Slytherin, Joanoah joined in on some of the merriment of his friends, though his laughter wasn't as genuine as those surrounding him. But he did have to keep appearances and he had to admit, Slug's childish tantrum was somewhat amusing and very informative. Reading reactions of the entire class was also a good bonus since he could gauge those who showed sympathy or find other students who found this funny. The red headed girl was none of the above... she looked.. crushed and defeated and sad. He partially expected her to be angry at being yelled at and it only made him question how long the two of them had been friends. The professor finally got his slytherins back in line and on the ground which was a shame. He really did enjoy flying and that would have been a perfect chance to show off his flying abilities. Now he just had to wait for class to end so he could return to the Slytherin common room. Or maybe he'd find more productive ways to spend his days rather than listening to Andrea, Varlen, Derlyn and Marta regale the class with Slug's overdramatic escape from class. He was sure the entire school would know about this flying lesson before the day was over. Slytherin were notorious at spreading rumors. No.. Joanoah decided that he'd forgo in listening to over exaggerated versions of what happened. Maybe he'd try to engage the red head in conversation. Find out exactly who she is.

Gina blinked multiple times, unsure if she heard correctly. Oh no, no no no. Gina thought while she worried about her house losing points, at the same time worrying about Fawn dying. Well, more getting them into trouble. Then guilt swam through her mind as she put the trouble over death. Her thoughts were interrupted as she tried to make sense of the breed of owl. Was it a new breed only wizards knew about?

Gina tried to ignore the disgusting smell getting stronger while the number of owl droppings increased the higher they went up the steps. It was just like back at the farm. She had been hopeful to be away from all that. It reminded her of the last thing she was told by her family. Gina forced herself to look up so she could stop seeing the bird droppings, but the smell constantly reminded her of so many things. Once they entered the room, Gina was unsure what owl was Fawn's. She looked around and saw so many different owl breeds, which made her curious. She had never seen so many owls before, the few owls she had seen at the farm were tiny and usually hidden in the shadows. Fawn called for her owl and a giant owl swooped down landing on Fawn's head. Eyes wide, Gina took a step back intimidated by the giant wings and talons. "Wait, she? Mr.Hooters... is a she?" Gina asked, not sure why she noticed that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elsie was surprised to see Kyra run even after the Professor threatened detention. It actually eased her worry of their friendship, when she realized that Kyra, who had not even an hour ago nagged Elsie for having her clothes all rumpled, would never make a scene like this. Something was wrong. Kyra would never risk detention. They only knew each other for two days, but Elsie knew that much about Kyra. She started to cheer up as she called the broom to her for the rest of the class. It was rather dowdy, and she could understand the complaints that were being whispered from other students. She hoped that the mixed emotions were fixed by the time they were dismissed. After time passed, they were told to gather and return their brooms to Professor Normal.

Elsie glanced around as the class scattered; with some talking to their friends, some walking back to the school and some went to enjoyed the beautiful day. Elsie felt a bit awkward and alone. She wondered about heading back to the school and try to find Kyra, but she also was considering trying to make friends. Give Kyra some time alone to calm down.

Professor Normal hid her frustration while she watched all the kids leave their brooms with her. She counted them to make sure they were all brought back, she then waited until the class scattered off a bit before she put them all away in the shed. Walking off, she went to find the Head of Ravenclaw. Professor Quagon. There would have to be consequences for Kyra. If she left it alone, the other students would take control of the class. Abby was not the most aggressive teacher, it made her feel uneasy when there was any drama. Usually students were excited and willing to learn to fly, but there was always at least one who was bad at this. One who tried to get out of class. One who brought drama. Sighing, Abby was annoyed as she walked to the school. Professor Quagon, it seemed, stayed hidden in his room and slept until the late afternoon. He should be awake by now. She had started working there around the same time as him, so she knew how to talk to him. He was a bit... odd to talk to... But he was a good teacher and quite brilliant. She should find him in the Astronomy tower, and hopefully explain what happened. He would have to have a talk to the young Ravenclaw and get her detention in order. Abby sighed as she walked the long walk to the astronomy tower.

Fawn gave Gina her best grin as she nodded her head vigorously, the Owl perched on top of her head being forced to relocate, spreading its huge wings and flapping down to land on a large pile of hay that was spread about the center of the floor. The animal didn’t seem to mind when Fawn reached out and scratched her feathers on the top of her head. The bird seemed to rather enjoy it actually as it quietly made hoo’ing noises. “Well of course she’s a girl. Can’t you tell by looking at her? She’s friendly too if you’d like to pet her or just come up here and talk to her from time to time.” Fawn retracted her hand and Mr. Hooters took once more to the air and flapped upwards to one of the higher larger alcoves in the wall and returned to the place she had been before Fawn showed up. Fawn skipped back towards the steps that lead to the buildings exit and stopped in the archway. “Well, I’m satisfied that Mr. Hooters is settling in well with the other owls. I was most terribly afraid she’d be picked on but looks like I didn’t need to worry. So what do you want to do now?” Fawn asked as she waited for Gina to exit the buildings. Once they were on the stone walkway that led to the stairs that wound down back to the green grass below Fawn began to look around. Half the world seemed a blur till she realized her glasses had gone lopsided so she reached up and pushed the left half up her face. It was in the process of doing that, whiling slowly spinning around that she saw two figures off in the distance emerging from the Forbidden Forest. Excitedly, Fawn grabbed Gina’s robes and pulled her to the ledge as she pointed off to the two small figures. “Look! A couple people just left the Forest! And I thought it was supposed to be Forbidden… Shady.. real shady.” Fawn exclaimed, her voice dropping to a quiet mutter when she said shady. She let go of Gina’s robes and placed her palms on the stone and leaned forward, in an failed attempt to get a closer look at the two. It was impossible to tell if they were kids or adults from this distance but they seemed to be heading back towards the castle. “I think if we leave now and cut across the lawn we can find out who they are. If they are students, I feel its our job to tell a teacher that kids have been in the forest! What do ya say partner, wanna investigate with me?” Fawn didn't really give Gina much chance to answer as she produced her wand and sped off down the stairs. Fawn didn't exactly need her wand, but if you were chasing someone you should have it out, right? Isn't that something Professor Shimpett said?.. always be ready or some such nonsense? Fawn didn't really know any of the spells the teacher taught... or well.. any magic really but it couldn't hurt to look prepared. Fawn took the steps three at a time, almost at a run as her robes bellowed out behind her. When she hit the bottom she paused to wait for Gina to catch up, impatiently waiting with her foot tapping the ground. Every second they had to wait was a second the two shady figures had to get further out of reach!

Class finally came to an end with much disappointment and a lack of flying. Joanoah gave up his broom with a sigh. He really did enjoy flying, but hogwarts had some pretty low quality brooms. Maybe he'd bug his father to buy some better ones for the school, or at least get him the new Cleansweep One broom that's been rumored to come out in the next year. The timing seemed perfect since he was sure to get into the Quidditch squad. All the students around him headed off in different direction and he turned down the offer to go back down into the dungeons and instead urged the other Slytherin to go on without him. He had other things to do and would only find boredom down that path. Some students stayed outside, a few went back indoors but the red headed girl he was eager to talk to stayed around, as if confused as to what she should do next. Joanoah had expected her to go flying off into the castle to find Slug.

The red head was facing the opposite direction as he came up from behind, stopping a few feet away. Putting on his most winning smile he greeted her loud enough to get her attention. "You must have had flying practice before. That or your a natural. You handled your broom well, especially on one of these shoddy practice brooms."

Gina was still intimidated by the large bird, but she found herself watching Mr. Hooter with interest. The bird was sweet tempered and seemed to really like Fawn. "Never been around owls a lot, I would not know the difference between a male or a female bird. How can you tell?" Gina asked while she slowly stepped closer to watch the bird. She was nervous to be too close, and it made her somewhat uneasy with the ones flying above her. But she was starting to get used to them when Mr. Hooters flew off. Gina scurried a few steps back as she bird take off and glide through the air. Such a large bird, and flight is so easy for her. Gina thought watching the feathers slightly move. She had always liked how birds could fly, though she was not too fond of being close to larger animals. Gina thought back to when she was told she was a witch, and when she learned she would learn to fly on a broom, she was excited for tomorrow. The day Hufflepuff learned to fly.

She followed Fawn out of the owlery and watched, slightly amused, while Fawn finally realized her glasses were slanted. When she was grabbed and pulled to the ledge, panic blossomed before she paid attention to the words Fawn spoke. Although Gina was not nearly as curious as fawn, she was interested. She had thought the Forbidden forest was just that. Forbidden. It was a bit shady. This is true. With the lack of schoolwork she needed to do, and her lack of talent for finding adventures, Gina decided why not. She was about to answer when Fawn ran ahead, wand out at the ready. "Wait! Wait for me!" she found herself saying and she scurried down the steps as fast as she felt safe to, obviously slower than Fawn who seemed to be speeding down the steps. Gina reached the bottom of the steps, somewhat thankful for the large farm her parents owned. She had run through the fields with her siblings all the time, and all that exercise helped her chase after her new friend. Still, she did not have the same speed as Fawn.

Finally reaching the bottom of the steps, Gina followed Fawn as they cut across the lawn, trying to find the mysterious people who had left the forbidden forest. What had they been up to? How did they even get in? Gina had been told there were barriers in place. She was finding herself curious as she followed Fawn into this adventure.

Elsie was discovering it was harder to speak to these kids than she had planned it out in her head. Hello. It was pretty simple enough to say, but she instead said nothing as she watched everyone wander off or go to talk to others. She was about to give up when she heard someone talking; she turned to make sure they were talking to her then she blinked as she slightly blushed seeing a handsome smile attached to the cute boy she had spotted earlier. She was also realizing he was complimenting her on her flying. She started to realize she was staring for too long and she had not answered yet. "Oh, um I... thank you. I was only taught the basics back home. I have a broom, but never got to fly in such an open field such as this. I rather wish I brought it so I could really fly. Oh? The practice brooms are that different? Well, I noticed it had a pull to the left a bit, but any shonky broom has some problems. Mine wants to be a little shite sometimes when it rains. Listen to me go on, have you flown before? " Elsie caught her run off the mouth and tried very hard to not babble in nonsense. She also tried to avoid looking at his eyes; they seemed to pull her in. She was blushing slightly while she forced herself to not fidget like normal. She had no idea what to say or how to act.

Professor Titus Quagon was reading when there was a knock at his office door. If he remained really quiet, hopefully no one would notice he was in his living quarters. Especially since he was sitting on top of a stack of books, having made a couch of sorts with the book pile. He tried to remain still while he scanned the page and read the next page just as fast. He hated being interrupted while reading, though he seemed to forget he had responsibilities as the new Head of Ravenclaw. The previous Professor had retired, the former potions teacher. Now Professor Quagon was representing his former House, Ravenclaw. He adjusted his glasses while he heard the faint creak of the classroom door open. "Titus?" he heard and involuntarily sighed which gave away his location. The guest was Professor Normal, one of the few people Titus considered a friend. Though, only because she rarely bothered him. "What is it Abby?" He asked and glanced at the clock. There was still plenty of time before his class started. He had wanted to read a bit more then get something to eat before playing Wizards chess with the Alchemy Professor.

"A student of mine, a Ravenclaw, walked out of class even though I warned her if she left she would receive detention." Abby said with a sniff, as if she were annoyed by the thought of it once again. "A Ravenclaw you say?" Titus asked, glancing up from his book, his eyes over the rim of his glasses. He had soft kind eyes that complimented his dark skin. Wearing a casual suit and tie, he acted very like a muggle when he was not teaching. "Yes, she claims to hate flying. I don't know how anyone could hate flying. Always get one every year though..." Abby muttered then sighed as she added, "Her name is Kyra Hallow. Veronica's daughter." Curious. Titus thought as he closed his book, remembering the page he was on. "I see. Well, simply punishing her only hinder things. I will sort this. Would you be willing to train her after class? " He said while he stood, some books slid while he tried to get off. He did not seem to remember how he got up there in the first place. Abby sighed watching him, then pondered his question. "f she is willing to still come to class, of course. I want her to be able to learn." She said with a nod. Titus nodded as well and finally managed to get down. He took his teaching robe off the coatrack by the door of his room and straightened it. He paused a moment, forgetting his train of thought. He was still thinking of the book. "I will let you know the results of the punishment. Good day." He said with a nod and wandered off. He had no idea what the student looked like, probably it would be best to locate her mother first. It would be easier to find Professor Hallow in the Herbology greenhouses. Nodding to himself, he decided that was what he would do.

Joanoah wasn’t expecting such an earful right after such an awkward silence, or for the girl to talk so much about herself so quickly. He could only stand there and listen as she rambled on about the flying and brooms enthusiastically. He had honestly pegged her as shy since he didn’t know who she was, and didn’t think that Kyra would choose to befriend someone as low born as an mudblood or someone of an low class wizarding family and Joanoah, knowing the high standards Veronica Hallow put on her daughter didn’t expect the silver haired witch to get with the sort that caused troubles.. But then again.. Slug was always a little different and never did enjoy the parties her parents attended, nor fit in with the other kids who attended fancy wizard get togethers.

Joanoah managed to get quite a bit of information already. She had her own broom, she had practice even if it was indoors and she did indeed have a knack for flying and a good feel for brooms. When she was finally finished he replied, keeping his cool smile. “Yes, of course. My father taught me how to fly years ago. But I’m afraid I didn’t catch your name? Mine is Joanoah Marabelle. And was it your parents who taught you how to use a broom?”

At this point in the conversation he began walking back towards Hogwarts castle, making a light motion with his hands suggesting to Elsie she should tag along. He didn’t want to just be standing around like a goof while all the other students were off doing other things, so they may as well walk while they talk. He’d wait till after she answered his questions and gave her name before speaking again. Joanoah had a way with words and they seemed to roll of his tongue smoothly, effortlessly. He was also very good at carrying on a conversation and guiding it where he wanted it to go. ”So you like Quidditch I assume?” of course.. every wizard liked quidditch. ”Who is your favorite team and player?” he asked as they continued up the slope and towards the gates of Hogwarts.

Veronica Hallow was most predictably in one of the greenhouses of Hogwarts, tending to a patch of Mimbulus Mimbletonia plants that were to be used later on in the year for her 6th and 7th year students. The plants were still very young, their bulbous cactus like srpouts still tiny and few in number. Though young, that didn't stop the plants from squirting out foul smelling stinksap when it felt threatened and for this reason, Veronica Hallow was very careful when dealing with these rare and valuable plants. She wasn't alone in the greenhouse, as a couple of her more gifted sixth year students were in here with her, tending to other plants and giving her a hand in preparing some of her lessons for some of the younger students. These two, both girls from her house of Hufflepuff could be heard giggling together at the other end of the greenhouse, no doubt spreading rumors about boys. Veronica found older students easier to handle even if they could often be distracted by romance. Veronica stood up from and smoothed out her black and gold robes, which remained spotless despite the fact that Veronica spent most of her time digging around in dirt. She was extremely diligent and careful but also had a host of easy spells that could remove stains and dirt from her clothes and she used these spells frequently.

Veronica was pulling off her dragonskin gloves when the door opened and Professor Quagon admitted himself. It was a rare sight to see the bookish Titus Quagon in the greenhouse and the man was rumored to be notoriously hard to find anytime you needed him for anything. Veronica hadn't had many dealings with the man yet but since he was the head of House Ravenclaw.. and her daughter was in the same house.. she could only assume what this visit was going to be about. Veronica slipped her gloves into robes and with a glance across the Greenhouse to make sure her two helpers for the evening weren't in any need of help, she walked down the row of potted plants and hanging ones to greet her visitor. Veronica walked with ease and grace as she came around a large work table piled high with empty unused pots. "Professor Quagon, to what do I owe the pleasure of this rare visit?" She asked in greetings as she stopped short of the man, her eyes giving his appearance a quick once more. He didn't look much what she thought the head of a House of Hogwarts should, but she was told he was more than capable of the job, even if he didn't seem to take responsibility all that serious.

"I can't" Fawn replied with a slight shrug when asked how to differentiate a male owl from a female. "The man who gave it to me just said it was a she and he didn't seem like the kinda bloke to lie." She explained as Gina watched the bird, unaware at the unease such a large bird caused in her fellow Hufflepuff compadre. Fawn waved her pet owl goodbye before they made her way out of the building. She was curious how often the owl would swoop down into the Hogwarts banquet hall and deliver her messages or packages. She didn't really have anyone who would write to her but maybe if she made enough friends this year then she could get plenty of letters for the following years. Or maybe she'd just write herself some letters and have them delivered to herself periodically throughout the year. That seemed like a perfectly acceptable idea.

Fawn waited for Gina to catch up at the bottom of the steps before she readjusted her glasses once more and looked out across the grounds, squinting despite her glasses to try and relocate the two who had come out of the forest. They seemed to be walking past a two building hut that sat on the edge of the forbidden forest and Fawn was slightly curious what that building was. There was a couple hills between here and the circle of rocks that the two of them had passed through to get to the Owlery. That might be a good place to do some eavesdropping. "They aren't walking very fast.. I think if we can get back to that stone circle area, then maybe we can hide behind one of those big rocks and try to find out who they are there." Fawn suggested, giving Gina time to chip in but would shoot down any other plans if the girl offered any. Fawn was always c**k sure of that her ideas were the best ideas but it was always good to listen to input even if you didn't plan on giving anyone else credit. Trees dotted the grounds between here and the stones and so Fawn ran from one tree to the next, pausing each time to allow the two of them to catch breath before continuing. Gina did better at keeping up than Fawn thought she would, seems she wouldn't slow the girl down which was great. From tree to tree they continued until they reached the large stone circle, well ahead of the two men who had emerged from the forest. But it gave them good time to get situated behind one of the rocks without being spotted. "Now we wait.. but we shouldn't talk since I think they're almost here. Peak around that side and let me know if you see them or if you know who they are!

"......never seen anything like this before. And you are sure you don't know the cause of it, Professor Nicholais?" The two men who had left the forbidden forest walked up the path leading back to Hogwarts, one of them the grounds keeping and Care of Magical Creatures teacher Professor Nicholais who was being accompanied by the other man. A regal well dressed man with a thick brown beard who could obviously be identified as the Headmaster himself, Headmaster Armando Dippet. The headmaster was the one speaking as the two of them walked, his hands clasped firmly behind his back as he continued to have a quiet discussion with Professor Nicholais.

"Again Headmaster, I wish I could give you a solid explanation as to what's been causing the Bugbears in the Forbidden Forest to go into such a frenzy... but I haven't had enough time to investigate. It.. could just be inner faction warring but I won't know for certain until I can get in contact with the Centaurs. Your old games keeper left me a note saying he's explained to them that I'm a friend and the new grounds keeper, but you know how untrusting centaurs are of wizards. It could be another year before they choose to make contact." Markelm replied with unease. He was more than familiar with Bugbears.. savage creatures and ones he didn't look forward to dealing with if this problem continued to escalate. He was told it was unusual for the bugbears to be this close to Hogwarts and the amount of bugbear corpses left behind in whatever struggle took place suggest something other than inner factions warring. He wasn't even able to identify just what mutilated some of the bodies he had come across.

"A year is too long Professor Nicholais. But at least the protective enchantments have kept them from moving further out. I'll put up a special notice to remind students not to go near the Forbidden Forest and I suggest you take no classes very far into the forest." The Headmaster finished with a sigh as they passed through the stone circles and headed towards the stone and wooden walkway that led back to Hogwarts. "And I'm sure I don't have to remind you, but try to keep this matter to yourself. I'll inform those who I best deem to know but I want no rumor of this to reach students ears." The Headmaster finished as the two of them stopped inside the small stone structure before the bridge.

"Headmaster, one other thing.. are you sure it was a good ide.." Markelm started before he was cut off by a the wave of Armando Dippets hand, telling Markelm that this matter wasn't open for discussion anymore.

"Hogwarts is the safest place for the girl. I'll hear no more of it Markelm."

Professor Nicholais and the Headmaster parted ways here, Markelm turning about and heading back towards the two building hut that sat right outside the edge of the forest and Dippet returning to the castle.

Elsie was mentally kicking herself after she realized she was blithering like a ninny. It was bad enough her day started the way it did, but this really was worse. So much worse. A million questions swam through her head as she wondered about his father while she repeated his name in her head a few times. The question of her parents dragged her back out of her head and she paused. He motioned they walk back to the school, like a giddy school girl she followed unable to hide her smile. She took her time thinking of the right words to say this time, and found herself saying instead, "Your father? That must have been a lot of fun! So you are probably years ahead of us all then..." She inwardly scolded herself before she introduced herself as Elsie Nicholais. She paused a bit longer before she said, "My parents are gone, I was taught by Professor Nicholais." A mental celebratory dance at remembering to call Markelm Professor, then she slipped her arms behind her back while she followed Joanoah. She caught herself watching him walk as he talked about Quidditch. She had very little knowledge about the sport, other than the times Markelm swore when his team lost him money. "Uhhh, I don't really have a favorite... I, um, never really watched a game before... From what I know, I want to watch, I mean I plan on watching the ones here at school... learn a bit more..." Once again she blurted and once again showed how little she knew about this world. Her voice trailed off as she forced herself to can it. Once again she wished she could hide or become invisible. Though that would probably make things worse. Is it too much to ask for someone to interrupt this mess? Elsie thought to the universe.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Titus entered the greenhouse, eying the various plants and noting the names he knew. He made a note to refresh his memory on Herbology before he gave a tentative smile in return to the Professor's greeting, ending with a nod. He was not known for a social nature, which sometimes left awkward silences. He was better at teaching, gushing about the stars and planets in the sky above. "Yes, well. It is about your daughter. Professor Normal gave her detention for walking out of flying class. I don't know the exact details, but Kyra claims to hate flying. Now, I was able to get Abby to agree with private lessons after class but she will want Kyra to come back to class." He paused for a bit, giving Professor Hallow time to speak then said, "I was hoping you would be willing to deal with this detention, due to the obvious cause of her leaving class. I don't see the point in harshly punishing someone for a fear. Though, she needs to not run out of class." He also did not want to try finding a student he had not met and tell her she has detention. He had hoped there would be no need for punishment during the first few weeks of school. Sadly, he was mistaken. Already his House lost points and now had a student in detention. He would have to have a talk with them in Astrology that night. Advise all his students to do extra credit and work hard in class to make up for the points they had lost. He knew who the troublemakers were; Elsie Nicholais and Kyra Hallow. As the head of Ravenclaw he got reports on all the class points, either removal or gain. Once he met the two girls, he would decide if he needed to give them a secondary scolding after class.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gina smiled and nodded. Well that makes sense. She thought to herself. "Were there a lot of animals there? I heard about Diagon alley, that is where you got your owl right?" she asked somewhat curious. She had been given very basic second hand items, from students that no longer needed the items. Muggle born Wizards and Witches, she was told, sometimes got help. She remembered creeping over to the staircase as her parents talked to the stranger. They were against her going until they were told the supplies would be provided. She now wondered if she did not find baby Me, she would have gotten an owl. Thinking of the mouse, Gina was very glad she did not bring him to the owlery. He was only a few months old after all.

Gina too squinted to try and spot the people that had left the forbidden forest. It was hard to see if they were adult or student. If they were students, it was their obligation to notify a teacher. Rules were there for a reason after all. She glanced ahead at the stone circle and paused. Would they get there in time? "Well... I guess that can work." She said and Fawn ran ahead to hide behind a tree. Following not far behind, Gina found it rather silly to run from tree to tree like this, but eventually she was having fun. She grinned as they reached the stone circle and saw the people who had left the forest. From the looks of it, they were almost at the stone circle. Gina recognized the headmaster as she ducked behind the stones. Now she felt silly again. Spying on a teacher and the headmaster. If they were caught they would get in trouble, but it was too late to run off now. Sh realized as she heard them talking about Bugbears. Curious, she wondered what Bugbears were. She held her breath as they walked through the circle slowly. It looked like they were heading back to Hogwarts. Guilt swam through her mind as she realized they overheard very secret information. She waited until they seemed to be on their way back into the school before she crept over to Fawn. Before she spoke, she saw the teacher Professor Nicholais was on his way back. She hid behind Fawn while she waited for the Professor to be back on his way to the two huts. "Let's go back... I don't want to get in trouble..." she suggested.

"I suppose it was fun." He replied, brushing the question off slightly and acting as if learning to fly at such a young age was really no big deal. In truth it was one of the things he really enjoyed and looked forward to the most. It was a shame he had to wait another year to try out for seeker for house Slytherin. "And I may be more advanced in flying but I haven't had any real experience playing Quidditch and won't until next year." Joanoah finally got a name and it wasn't one he knew aside from the last name. He knew who Professor Nicholais was.. but there seemed to be another something attached to that name.. He could swear he knew the man from somewhere.. or maybe he had heard one of his parents mention that name before. It doesn't matter. He's just a professor. he told himself but did wonder who the girls real parents are and what had happened to them. He decided not to pry too much into it as the girl fumbled over her words as she revealed she actually had little to no experience with Quidditch which actually surprised Joanoah. They had just entered the gates of Hogwarts when he stopped and faced the red headed witch, a slight look of distaste coming over his face at the possible thought that he could be consorting with someone not pure blood. "You're kidding? You've NEVER watched a game before? Have you been living under a rock or something? Your not one of those filthy mudbloods are you?" he asked but before he could get a reply a silver haired blur appeared.

Kyra waited.. and waited.. and waited a couple more minutes as the students filtering into the great hall ceased and everyone who was in her flying class that decided to come inside had gone inside.. all except Elsie. Maybe she decided to stay outside.. she thought to herself as she sighed and slid off the stone bench. She was just about to head back to the commons room when FINALLY Elsie, accompanied by Joanoah appeared through the door. That was one Slytherin boy that Kyra knew she'd never like, he was vile, and rude and slimey and icky but worst of all he was manipulative and Kyra couldn't prove any of that. She could clearly recall any of the times that both their families had gotten together be it at a private occasion or at a large fancy wizarding party. Joanoah was one of those children who just attracted attention from adults much in the same way Kyra did. The only difference between the two was that Kyra wasn't foul and rotten and Joanoah was. He'd always trick or convince other kids to do bad things as if it was some sort of contest to see just how far he could push his luck and every single kraken time blame would fall his way he'd somehow manage to wiggle free of it and play innocent. Kyra could never fathom how all the adults, INCLUDING HER PARENTS, could be taken in by his lies and his innocent act and no matter how many names she called him or all the things she'd tell her parents they never believed her. She had even overheard adults talking about a possible "marriage" between the two and just that idea alone almost made her gag and filled her with revulsion.

She could stand the sight of him when he was with his own friends, but seeing him there with Elsie, and acting so cool and casual made her forget about being embarrassed as she balled her small hands into fist, grabbed her bag and stomped over to the two of them just in time for her to hear Joanoah use the term mudblood. "No Joanoah, she is NOT a mudblood. And it shouldn't matter if she is anyway. I won't have you playing with Elsie like you do everyone else. You keep away from my friend. You might have others thinking your a good boy but I know who you really are!" Kyra said almost too loudly. Luckily they seemed to be the only persons in the room so nobody would overhear them. Kyra turned, obviously aggitated, to Elsie and grabbed the girls hand. "And you shouldn't be talking to this greaseball. Were going." Kyra left no room for discussion as she pulled Elsie away, dragging her if need be. Joanoah said some words back as she marched Elsie away but she was too hotblooded to make them out. Kyra was muttering words such as slimey, evil, vile, and other words she could think that accurately fit who Joanoah truly was as they got further away.

That silver blur was none other than Slug herself, making her triumphant return. Great.. I had hoped she ran off crying to her mother, or better yet, had just dropped out of school altogether. Joanoah frowned at the hot tempered tirade but put on a innocent smile and shrugged. "That's no way to treat your childhood friend, Slug. I can't imagine why you'd say such hateful things. Your mother would be displeased to hear you speak such venom.: He replied, his innocent smile curling into a sly one as Kyra jerked Elsie about and the two of them marched off. "I hope we meet again Elsie. And watch who you make friends with. Kyra isn't as goody two shoes as she'd have you believe!" he shouted after them, his smile fading as a dark look overcame his face. Maybe it would be fun to try and pit those two against each other... Joanoah mulled the thought over as he turned and went in the opposite direction. I guess I'll go to the commons room afterall.

Elsie was slightly jealous at how he treated flying as if it were nothing special. He must be a really good flyer then. She assumed while she watched him talk. He had a really nice face, she found herself thinking. At the mention of Quidditch, Elsie was trying to hide her embarrassment. She glanced away, missing the look from him. She also seemed to not notice his tone of voice as he practically insulted her. She was more focused on her incompetence as a Witch. Before she could answer Kyra arrived to save her from the horrible conversation.

When Kyra defended her, Elsie realized then he had asked if she were a mudblood. She never had heard that term before, but judging by Kyra's reaction it was a bad word. But that can't be right, why would he insult her if he was being so nice? There had to be some kind of mistake. While Elsie would not call Joanoah a good boy, she found him better than the boys she had known back in London. He smiled a lot and seemed to listen. Elsie was still thankful for Kyra's interruption. She felt so out of place in this world, it became glaringly obvious anytime people asked her questions about anything magical related. Despite what Markelm had said at lunch, Elsie felt like she did not belong. Being pulled away, Elsie was surprised by Kyra's anger and strength. Maybe she was still upset about the class. Had he made fun of her sometime before? Was that it? Elsie wondered as she skipped to keep up with her usually slow friend. "Ya don have to yank my arm off." Elsie said slightly annoyed. She was glad Kyra had called her friend earlier though. It made her smile and calmed some of her earlier worry. She glanced back at the handsome Joanoah while he spoke. She let the words sink in and frowned slightly. He made it seem like Kyra had a dark secret. She was unsure if she wanted to mention it to Kyra, or ask any questions. Not when Kyra was still obviously angry about something. Elsie waited until it seemed Kyra calmed down a little; no longer spouting off words that had at first slightly shocked her to hear Kyra say. "Um... thank you... for the save I mean." she said awkwardly before she added, "He's gone, you don't need to pull me anymore." She waited until she was released, then she smiled. "I'm glad you came back... you're not mad still... are you?" She asked awkwardly.

She let Kyra explain, "I'm s**t-scared of water. If we were told we had to learn to swim I would have done the same thing. No big deal. I'm not mad." She then snapped her fingers, getting a brilliant idea, one that might fix everything. "I want to help. I have my broom with Markelm. If you want, I can show you some of the tips he told me when I first learned. Best thing, no plonkers to distract you. And you can take as long as you want. Markelm has this huge field by his hut." She completely forgot to call Markelm, Professor Nicholais.

Veronica stiffened at the news, the corners of her mouth tightening into a frown as Professor Quagon broke the news of her daughters surprising first day suspension. Veronica started to mindlessly reorganize the stack of empty pots while the man spoke and she was at least relieved to hear that professor Normal had agreed to give the girl private flying lessons. Veronica would make sure that Kyra would continue going to class and if her daughter knew what was good for her then she'd listen and still attend class. Veronica waited for Titus to finish but let a long silence pass before she replied. "I... see. I'm afraid Kyra developed a fear of flying years ago after an.. unfortunate accident with one of her cousins. I had just assumed that it had passed and would no longer be a cause for concern. I even asked her before school started if it still bothered me and she assured me that it wouldn't.. But that doesn't appear to be the case." Veronica explained as she finished restacking the empty pots once more. She turned around and approached a table behind her that housed some young Devil Snare which was to be used later in the year by the first years. At such a young stage the Devil Snare wasn't a danger even as the plants fines and tendrils started to wrap around the fingers of her left hand. With her right, she picked up a pair of shears and began trimming the plants to ensure they didn't grow too uncontrollable and cause havoc all over the green house. The plants reflexively tried to pull away from the garden shears but were no match for Professor Hallows experience. Vernoica waited till Titus had finished requesting that she take care of the detention, to which she agreed would be the best course of action since they were dealing with her daughter. The only thing that bothered her about the situation was that Professor Normal didn't come to speak to her but instead went to Titus Quagon. She supposed it was appropriate since he was the Head of Ravenclaw. "I see it only fair that I deal with it. Thank you for informing me Professor Quagon, I'll be sure to have a talk with her before your astrology class tonight." Veronica finished as she laid the shears down on the table, satisfied that the Devil's Snare was at a more than maintainable level. "I've got some work to finish up in here, so if you'll excuse me." Professor Hallow excused herself as she turned around and left Titus to attend to the two students who were at the other end of the building.

After a time, Veronica and her two evening helpers finished their tasks, having gathered up the potted plants of some of the more dangerous plants and moving them to the correct greenhouses. Greenhouse 1 was usually reserved for the first years, and thus it contained most of the simple or non-threatening plants but she still preferred to do most of her work here when possible. It was easier dealing with work when you didn't have plants that could kill you surrounding you. Once they finished their work, cleaned up and put all their tools away she dismissed her two helpers before she herself closed up the greenhouses, locked them, and went out to look for her daughter. She was unsure where she would find her, but would check the most obvious places first.

"There is a lot of everything at Diagon Alley and yup, I got my owl in one of those alleys there. Its a fantastic place! Even if I didn't have enough knuts and sickles to buy all the things I wanted. I thought all wizards shopped for their school supplies there? Did you go somewhere else?" Fawn inquired. The truth is that a lot of her stuff too were hand me downs but that didn't stop her from still walking around Diagon Alley and looking at all the stuff she could only dream to have. She got her own wand though, which was good enough for her. The textbooks, robes and other material things didn't have to be new but the wand maker man made it a point to talk about how a wand choose the wizard and what not and she was very happy when a wand choose her.

Fawn was only a slight bit out of breath as they reached the stone circle and hid behind one of the large stones. A huge grin was plastered upon her face. The first day of school had been filled with much great adventure and she could only hope that the rest of the year would follow the same. Maybe not every day would be as filled with fun but she would do her best to make it so.

After what seemed like an eternity, the two older men finallllllllllly made it to the stones. Why did adults walk so slow? She made a vow to never move that slow when she was old. She'd run everywhere until she was 900 years old, she just knew she would. Fawn recognized the Headmaster and thought she knew the other man from yesterday but couldn't put a face or name to the professor. But just a single look was all she took as she giggled and ducked behind stone as the two men came up the pathway. Fawn slapped her small hands over her moth so she would stop giggling, and after a second she did as their voices reached where they were hiding. At least these two weren't students who were breaking rules by going into the forbidden forest, but even Fawn wasn't unaware of the fact that they were overhearing things they weren't supposed to hear. She knew what a Bugbear was, but had never met, or seen one. To her, they were more like horror stories that friends or parents would tell their kids to keep them from going out and getting into trouble. If you do that, the bugbears will get cha! that kinda thing, but Fawn never knew that they actually existed in the world, or that they could be so close to them now. The two men passed through the circle and continued along the path and even though Fawn peaked around the stone to try to catch more of what they were saying, she couldn't decipher anymore of their hushed words. The two parted ways and Fawn ducked back behind the stone as the one named Professor Nicholais turned and came back their way. As he walked past them, unknown to the two students behind the stone, she mulled over their words, wondering just exactly what it all meant. Such a mystery.. she pondered but kept quiet till the man was well out of earshot. She looked over at Gina. The girl seemed uneasy, and her suggestion of going back so they didn't get into trouble seemed pointless since nobody had found them out yet. But Fawn wouldn't press the and well... she was kinda hungry and with the Hufflepuff common room being so close to the Hogwarts kitchen, or that's what someone had told her, she was curious if she could get a house elf to give her some food or not, so she nodded in agreement, slipped around to the otherside of the large rock and pointed back towards Hogwarts. "We shall investigate this matter further at a later time then! Right now.. I'm actually hungry.. so lets just head back." Fawn would let Gina take the lead since she wasn't honestly that good at navigating Hogwarts yet in the quickest and easiest manor. Gina looked like she would know the fastest ways back, or at least one that didn't send them to the third floor before the basement.

Kyra continued to drag Elsie away, ignoring the remark about yanking her arm off and for the time being, not realizing that she was hurting Elsie as she continued to storm across the room and into a hallway, out of sight of Joanoah. Kyra’s tirade finally came to a halt and she slowed down and eventually stopped. It wasn’t until Elsie spoke again that she realized what a strong hold she had on Elsie and all in one instant it felt like all the strength in Kyra’s arm gave out as she let go and her arm went slack, falling to her side. ”Sorry…” she mumbled as she looked away, bringing her other hand up and clutching her arm at the bend in an insecure manner. She wasn’t at all sure what was going on with her today, being late to class, panic attacks, exploding in anger and potentially scaring her friend. Even the language that was coming out of her mouth was just so… not how she was raised.. If her mother could see her now she’d be extremely disappointed and considering she did run out of Flying class she expected her mother to show up soon to have some words with her. ”No.. “ she answered, took another deep breaths, smoothed out clothes, straightened her robes and tried to explain. ”Joanoah isn’t as nice as he looks. He may be all smiles but don’t let that… wait.. do you think I’m mad at you?” Kyra asked with a sudden look of shock, and then remembered Elsies face when she had left flying class and how she had just gone off at the girl, shouting and stomping on the broom like an idiot. ”No no no!.. Of course I’m not mad at you! I.. I should even be apologizing. I just.. I just panicked and I didn’t mean any of that. I just.. I just don’t like flying and I’m scared of heights and I couldn’t get the broom to move.. and everyone was staring and I just.. I don’t know.. I just freaked... I thought before class started that I would be fine and that I had gotten over it.. but I guess I haven’t..” she tried to explain before apologizing again.

Kyra let Elsie get a word in and only wished that she too had a fear of swimming. At least they weren’t required to swim for one of their classes and she was glad to hear that Elsie wasn’t mad, which was a huge relief. The girls finger snap got Kyras attention and she listened to her idea. Honestly she felt hesitant, especially after having such a bad experience less than an hour ago. If it was up to her she wouldn’t have to touch, let alone see a broomstick ever again but she felt guilty for blowing up at Elsie and maybe trying it again without the pressures of expectation, or having others around could be a good thing. She knew she’d have to learn sooner or later.. ”I.. I don’t know Elsie. Are you even.. sure.. well.. I guess its worth a shot. I mean.. maybe even seeing how you fly could help or something. Will Professor Nicholais even let you use it though?” Kyra had her doubts but still motioned Elsie onward to lead the way. Maybe some lessons without the plonkers could do her some good, and besides, she felt she owed it to Elsie anyway.

Titus mulled over how long it would take to get to the library. He had a few hours before he would meet the Alchemy Professor for chess. The Professor had too much time on their hands and lived outside of the school, they only taught a small group of sixth and seventh year students a few days a week. Titus was pulled back to the now, when Professor Hallow spoke, he nodded mutely while she spoke. He had suspected that was the case, and with this things should be fixed soon. He would hope that the Professor would help her daughter through this and Kyra would be back in class next week. "No problem. I will let Abby know. She had some other students to teach; three second year students that did not do too well last year. This will ease her worry." He then glanced at the plant the Professor had been dealing with. The Devil Snare plant was a fun plant to learn about. His home back in Australia was near a cave with the plant that became local legend of being haunted. Wizards were often sent to deal with it once it got out of control, for some reason the plant kept returning. No matter what was done.

He waved and walked off, leaving the greenhouse then stretched taking in the fresh air. It was the second time he had left the school since he had arrived. He knew the school quite well, so taking a shortcut he knew he walked slowly towards the library. There were a few students who took the long way; but Titus had found this path with his friends on their third year. He liked that he worked here. It was a nice place; and had a wonderful book selection. He got to work on his studies and true focus. Plus, teaching children to appreciate learning was another wonderful thing. He walked, lost in his thoughts as he walked to the library. He would stop by the Owlery sometime before dinner and report to Abby.

Gina did not want to say she had nothing; so she kept quiet on the knuts and sickles. She was actually thinking about asking on how she could earn some currency for this world. Not that she properly understood how it worked. Knuts into Sickles? Or was it the other way around. The farm was her parent's dream and life, though they were barely making ends meet. They had expected all three of their children to simple work at the farm, and all money would go back into the farm. Instead their oldest went to London to go to school, and their youngest was a Witch off at the magical school Hogwarts. "It sounds wonderful! I hope I can go there next year. I ... I was given my items." She said hesitating. She had been told by some that being Muggle-born was not something you talk about to others. But she hated lying. She just was not sure Fawn would understand, or if it was really something to hide.

During the long wait, Gina was trying to reassure herself she was not going to get caught or in trouble. She was not quite sure what she overheard, but usually when adults spoke alone it was private information. Not that she would ever repeat what she overheard, she still felt guilty. Once the Professor left, Gina was hoping Fawn would listen. She was antsy as she waited for an answer, and while she was a bit nervous about the investigating at another time remark, Gina was glad Fawn wanted to head back to the school. Gina had enough adventure for one day. Her stomach perked up at the prospect of food, so she nodded. "I think that is a good idea. Pretty sure if we head this way, we can get back to our room. Mom sent some cookies with me; I have some left..." she offered; having the feeling Fawn might get into mischief if left alone. Besides, Gina wanted to start working on her homework. Get it out of the way. (think they got any homework from charms?)

Walking towards the covered bridge; Gina wondered if there were quicker ways to get back to their House. She had a lot to get used to; she realized as she walked along the bridge. She looked out to see the view and stopped a moment, appreciating the splendor. The farm she grew up at, had very little trees where here; trees were everywhere. She found the misty fog sweeping through, added to the magic of this place. Was it because of the school, or was Scottland just that much different. There were hills near her farm, she always looked out seeing them from her bedroom window. But here, here they were all around and held many secrets. At this angle it was hard to see the lake she knew was there, but she saw it's mysterious waters. Gina continued walking to the courtyard near the hospital wing, glancing out once in a while to absorb she was really here. She glanced back at Fawn and asked, "Did you always know you were a Witch? I never in my life thought I would be at a school like this." Gina hid the fact she never thought she would be allowed in school, let alone a magical school.

The two chatted about Hogwarts in general, and being a Witch as they walked back through the many corridors before they found their way back to the staircases. The staircases led to everywhere in the castle, somehow. She was told this by their Prefect, which had to be truth. Somehow, if you took the right stairs you could find your to the Library. If Fawn wanted to explore the castle, Gina had no objections.

Elsie tried to not rub at her arm when she got it back, and she eyed Kyra. She listened and understood. She loved to fly, so she did not understand that. But her one fear was the open water, and she knew how terrifying it was to face a fear like that. It made her glad they did not need to learn to swim. The lake near the castle made her uneasy but the water was so cold, most people did not swim in it. Pleased that Kyra was not mad at her, Elsie was slightly curious what Kyra had to say about Joanoah but she left that alone. Hesitating, Elsie leaned back on the heels of her feet wondering if she should ask. Pausing, she decided she would learn another time, or on her own. She did not think Kyra was a liar, but maybe Joanoah was misunderstood. Elsie smiled and nodded at the apology. All was forgiven, and things were right again.

Elsie's suggestion did not go over as well as she had hoped, but she was now determined to help Kyra not be as scared. She would at least be able to call the broom to her by the time they had their next class. Or so Elsie thought. She was hoping Markelm kept the hut unlocked, but if not there were some windows she could pry open. She had assumed he would be busy with his duel job of Groundskeeper and teacher. Nodding, Elsie shrugged slightly while she said, "Well, it's my broom after all. I doubt he would care." She looked around and wondered how they would get to the groundskeeper hut from here. "The hut is in that direction, think we can reach the road from here? Or do we have to go the long way?" She pointed to the owlery. She had been shown it the night before, and they were on the other side of it. There had to be a path from this field to the owlery right? Liking things faster paced, Elsie was hoping it would not take a long time to reach their destination. Not wanting to stand around all day, she started walking towards the owlery. Best way to learn was firsthand, right? Besides, if they made it to the owlery, Elsie could write the letter she wanted to write and learn how to use an owl. She wondered if she could write to muggles this way. She was wondering how Mrs. White was doing, and if the cat was good company. She missed that little furball, but Pyx was a wonderful new friend. Maybe Markelm could mail the letter for her. Though, relying on him to do such a thing... Elsie paused then shrugged. No harm in trying. Elsie glanced back at her slow walking friend and realized this might be a long trip for Kyra. "Hope you don't mind a walk. I mean, I can do this on my own and we meet up later. If you really don't want to go." Elsie said, noticing Kyra looked very uncomfortable at the idea of flying again. Elsie though was hoping she would have some company but she was not sure Kyra would like such a long hike just to try flying.

Pyxis woke with a toothy yawn and saw something interesting on the bed. It was a metal cage; the little door was cracked open and the smell of food was coming from inside. Bouncing on the bed as she ran, Pyx curiously examined the cage then sniffed it a few times before she climbed up the ladder made by the open gate. Sniffling around, Pyx was curious and dug around; kicking out litter and food onto Elsie's bed.Pyx did not know a Prefect brought the cage upstairs, knowing Elsie was the only first year who had a ferret. Pyx did not not know Elsie was at flying class, and did not know that Brandy Bryan left a snotty letter for Elsie on the cage. Pyx only knew, this cage was fun! She bounced around and climbed the stairs to the upper floor and found something soft and fluffy. Pyx chirped and pulled it down the stairs, dragging more litter and knocked over the water as she dragged it out of the cage. Taking the pillow over to Elsie's pillow; Pyx then tunneled under it and curled up to fall asleep on the now messy bed.

”Cookies!?! Merlin’s Beard that is great! I know dinner time is supposed to be soon but I may just deflate and vanish before then so cookies sound just like what I need!” Fawn exclaimed, even though it was probably a bad thing to give this overly hyper girl sugar. Its not like anyone can stop her from pigging out on sugary foods during breakfast, lunch, and dinner though.. Fawn had no such aspirations of getting homework done (Yeah, maybe a reading assignment or something,) so the thought of using their free time that way, or even the rest of the evening for work never appeared to her. She just figured she’d get it done last minute or something.

The two of them headed onto the wooden bridge, the wind whipping up and blowing their hair and robes about as they crossed over the deep valley. Fawn almost kept walking when Gina stopped to take in the view from the bridge, but did stop and walk backwards till she was standing next to Gina again. ”Whatcha looking at? See anything weird?” she asked as she rocked back and fourth on her heels, awaiting a reply and for them to move on. Every second they lingered was a second she could be eating a cookie. Finally they kept moving onward, off the bridge and into the courtyard. ”Well, yeah. I mean, I came from a wizarding family so I guess I always knew I was a witch.” Fawn replied but like Gina, she too was kinda surprised when she had gotten a letter from Hogwarts. Even though she knew she was a witch she didn’t dream of being in such a well renown school such as Hogwarts. As the two of them continued to talk, Fawn kept any information about her past pretty well guarded, and that she did give seemed sometimes farfetched or was disguised in half truths. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Fawn didn’t like talking about herself but she did like talking about Hogwarts, often wondering and speculating on what juicy secrets the castle held and how long it would take her to find them all. Fawn was convinced she’d find them all.

Fawn didn't lead them on some wild exploration adventure into the castle, and mostly let Gina take lead as they made it down to the Hufflepuff basement and to the large stack of barrels that were the doorway inside. Fawn skipped forward to open the door before Gina could get a chance too, tapping the barrels in correct order and humming the name Helga-Hufflepuff while doing so. The correct barrel door opened and Fawn dove headfirst into it and crawled through faster than a cat chasing a mouse. She popped out into the lovely, dimly lit common room and sprang onto her feet. The room was far from empty at the moment, as most students weren't in class and since school just started, there was no need for kids to be locked up in the library for studies. Most of the chatter were friends conversing with each other, or first years introducing themselves to some of the older kids. The hufflepuff house was always known to be accepting, and always felt like the closest knit group. They may never win the Quidditch cup very often.. or the house cup.. or well.. any cup, but they were usually the closest bonded.

Kyra didn't think Elsie sounded so confident in Professor Nicholais being okay with this idea, but it was Elsies broom so the girl had the right to use it whenever she wanted, or so Kyra figured. "If you say so.. and I don't see any reason to take the road when we can just walk across the grass. I think the hut is on the other side of that building." Kyra pointed to the Owlery, which she wasn't completely sure was an Owlery but considering it had birds flying in and out of it, made that the most logical choice. Either way, it seemed like a good direction to go and if they didn't end up finding the groundskeepers hut, then at least they would be more familiar with the grounds of Hogwarts. "I really don't mind, just walk slow.. and don't go skipping on ahead of me."

Kyra let Elsie take the lead but stayed by her side as they walked. Silence seemed to have followed them though as Kyra ran out of things to say. She thought about apologizing again, but didn't want to really speak about broomsticks anymore and there was always more time later in the evening to apologize again. Instead she fumbled for something to talk about, and probably landed in the wrong puddle. "Is there any reason your scared of water? she asked, omitting the *s**t* part of Elsies vocabulary.

Markelm walked at a brisk pace back to his cabin as he mulled his conversation with the headmaster in his head. He knew that the bugbears could indeed just be fighting within themselves, but he would have no way to know if that was the case. It was very possible that two or more factions were fighting for control, or that whichever Bugbear had been the current chieftan, had either been slayed or wounded. The Centaurs could probably tell Markelm what was causing the inhabitants of the forest to be in such a state of unease, but as he had explained already, they found you, and not the other way around. Markelm let the thoughts drop as he reached his cabin and went inside. He still had much unpacking to do and many letters to write. He still didn't have an owl of his own and this weekend would be a good opportunity to get to Diagon Alley and get one, and other much needed supplies. It would be incredibly convenient having a Owl again after being without for so long. He never did understand how Muggles managed their mail system.. it was just so slow.. Markelm slipped his wand from his hand and started opening more trunks filled with some of his belongings, many of which are things he had to take out of remote places he was using as storage, things he couldn't have around while he was trying to life as muggle a life as was possible. He still had plenty of other things hidden away in various parts of the world, but some of those things were best left where he put them.
