Edmond didn't say anything in response to Rosie immediately after she replied. The Count was not normally the kind of person to try to comfort people. He normally just did the job and left. But Gotham had changed that, the crime here was a little more involved than most places. Edmond felt a need to question Rosie further but decided against it, thinking that anything that made her think about her mother would only upset Rosie. Instead he posed a very general question. "So do you like Gotham?"

The child tisked. "No..." she said. "We live inside a building... pretty much under ground with whatever light mommy can magic. When we're outside in the day time, it's noisy and the sky is kind of hazy. There are thugs and robbers all over the place. We.... we were supposed to move once Mommy got things sorted out here in Gotham. Someplace with a nice house... big yard to play in... have some pets." she said. Then she paused a moment and looked up at him. "Do you like it here?" she asked.

Edmond listened to her response and laughed a little, forgetting he was still wearing a mask. The laugh faded when that fact became evident again. The child did have a point, Gotham wasn't exactly the jewel it could have been. With Batman's disappearance things seemed to only get worst. When Rosie posed the same question to him he had to think hard on the answer. But in the end he came to the same impassive answer he always fell to when put in a difficult situation. The same answer that let him feel justified when he did have to kill someone. "I don't have a choice. I did my job well in the last city and then moved on. Gotham is just another city that needs to be saved. You have a point, there are thugs and robbers everywhere. Without the Batman around to protect the citizens things have only gotten worst. When I arrived I found that there was far more here than I was ready for. I made promises I struggled to keep, and now here I am, carrying a child to Crime Alley so she can find her home and I can go try to stop Batman's enemies. Not mine. But it has to be done. People have to be held accountable."

Angelica kept trying to read Jason, and then started tapping her index finger on her pursed lips, "I'll definitely need a secondary identity, if this is going to work. If nothing else, just to keep the bad guys guessing. I mean, let's face it, I don't want them to come knocking on my door. I could call myself 'Blaze' or 'Brimstone' .... I'm not sure what really fits here, and I'm open to suggestions..."

Rosie looked up at him for another long moment, then shifted in his arms and looked back towards the buildings. A thoughtful frown on her lips. Wonder how willing he'd be to help out her mother if he knew just what sorts of things SHE should be held accountable for. Suppose he should have an idea though, since he knew that her mother and Joker used to be in a relationship. One sort of had to be "that type" of person to be with someone like the Joker. The child grew quiet again, and turned her attention towards the buildings around them.

Edmond was indeed aware that Rosie's mother was not as innocent as he was pretending she was. He was aware of the type of person to be around the Joker, the only exception so far was Batman. However someone who robs a bank to feed their family was better than someone who robs a bank to kill heroes. Edmond didn't know what type of person Rosie's mother was so he was intent to find out when they met. But he was not going to tell Rosie that her mother would be in danger from him as well as the Joker. That would be cruel. Especially when he was using Rosie to find out where they staid. After a while of silence he asked. "Do any of the buildings look familiar yet?"

Rosie nodded and pointed ahead of them towards the rooftops. "That purple and yellow glow is kind of like a sign that's on the other end of the street we live on. If it's the same thing I'm thinking it is... it should be one of those long neon signs running down the side of the building, pointing towards the door. It's a... I'm not sure what it is. Momma said it's the sort of place only married men or guys with no girl friends go to." she said, her lip curling into a small frown. "Doesn't make any sense to me, but she won't let me go near it. Just know it's purple and yellow, and says Jills Club".

"Your mother is right, that is not a place you need to go." Edmond bluntly claimed. He knew exactly what Rosie was talking about and it was not a place she should go. Ever. However Edmond set off in the direction of the purple and yellow glow. "When we arrive at this club will you be able to point out the next direction we should go, or should I continue till we reach Crime Alley?"

The little one shook her head. "We have to go past the sign and straight down the street. Then, cross the road. Then down one more street. Then we take a left. Or... is it a right..." she replied, suddenly looking puzzled. "We go up... up that street, cross the road, then past that... then we went looking around here. We had to go... right? So it would be a left?" she muttered as she tried to work out the direction in her head. "... It's in Crime Alley. Sort of on the edge of it. It's an old apartment building, our building' that's like half fallen into that building, then an old thrift store right next to it."

"Then we will go past the sign, straight down the street, across the road, and down just that one more alley before we take a left." The Count summarized before he resumed walking. Rosie's instructions had been a little vague given how many streets and alleys Gotham had after the sign but Edmond made do with what information he had and continued to walk. Crime Alley couldn't be far away now. When Edmond came upon the turn that Rosie had been unsure about he stopped again. "Look both ways and tell me which way to go."

He raised an eyebrow and smirked as she was still listing off superhero aliases to cover up her actual superhero alias. "I don't know if you understand what 'undercover' is." He said with a chuckle in his voice.
"Fake Identity. We use real names. Let me explain: I'm going to walk in and use the name John Doe for myself. John Doe and your alias are going to explain to Penguin that our boss wants a good chunk of his business, and our meeting with him is his warning, so he can choose whether to cooperate and start paying up, or fight and get all of his men killed."
In the back of his mind, he still wanted to get back to the old days where he controlled Gotham's crime by making every crime lord in the city pay up 40% of their profits to him. It'll fund his necessities while also keeping Gotham safer than usual. His conquest for world power in the new multiverse he's in, however, had to be re-thought a bit.
By scaring his partner with his plans, he saw that maybe the idea was a little too world-domination-ey.

The child looked both ways, then puzzled for a moment and looked again. "I... I think it's down that way." she replied, pointing towards the left. "I think we go down that way for a bit, and there will be our house."

Firestar smirked again up at this dark hero in front of her, "Oh, I see. you want to see me out of my costume huh?" Angelica let that innuendo hang for a few moments watching Jason's reaction -- before chuckling, "Of course, I could go by Kay Frye... Unless I have to change my hair, which would piss me off. Styling is no problem, but I'll change it IF I absolutely have to."

"Well.. I'm not gonna say no to that." His face turned a little red. "But that's not what I--" He stopped talking, realizing from the face she was making that it was a joke.
He waited for her to finish her sentence before speaking again. "I think your red hair should be fine. After all, we will be working for the Red Hood." His smile hinted at his deviousness.

Firestar smirked again up at this dark hero in front of her, Firestar's green eyes seemed to be showing a bit of mischief, breathing in Red Hood's face, "You're the boss. Katie Frye, at your service. Obviously we need to work on backgrounds and prep for this sting. No need to go at this half-cocked, right?"
