Hunter grimaced slightly as the creature's teeth sunk into his ice covered arm and even though the wounds were just punctures and a couple scratches, he shuddered at the thought of what would have happened to his arm if the ice hadn't of been there to soften the attack just as he noticed the claws being swiped at his stomach he swung his sword knocking them out of the way at the last second and, hoping that he had caught it off balance, threw the creature into the floor of the palace and jumped away seeing Sierra make a beeline for the creature, sword swinging, he didn't want to be caught in the arc of that thing.

Re'nah, being thrown from Hunter, stood back up quickly what remained of her slick black fur standing on end. Her eyes only focused on him so she never noticed Sierra coming up at her side. She never felt the blade rip through her torso until it was lodged into something hard and crystal like inside her chest cavity. Then she felt it, searing pain from every wound she had received, from every action she had forced to do. She let out a screaming howl and grabbed the blade with her clawed hands and ripped it out of Sierra's grasp before tearing it out and tossing it away from her. Black liquid ran out of the gruesome wound and flowed like a river down onto the marble floor along with a black crystal that seemed to push its way out as Re'nah howled in agony her legs crumpling beneath her and her head thrashing back and forth, her tail tucked between her legs.

When the crystal fell to the floor with a loud clinking noise and shattered, Re'nah red eyes became wide and her howling stopped and she slumped to the floor laying in the puddle of black ooze that had once been blood. Her jackal form seemed to slide off of her in a wave of mist, that seemed to swirl around her for a moment, hiding her before dissipating, Her red eyes fading to a dull glazed gold that stared directly at the direction of the Champions. a few of her dreadlocks slipped from their position and fell around her face, the familiar sound of the gold ornaments attached to the ends jingled around her as if to signal her final passing.

Sierra could feel the blade sliding through the creatures body then suddenly stopped jarring her arms a little bit, she was dazed for a second then snapped back to attention when her sword was ripped out of her hands. Eyes still focused on the creature she made sure to watch the direction her sword flew off in before returning her full attention to the creature not wanting to turn her back and get attacked, besides she had her other minor weapons to fight with should the need arise.

Her attention was drawn by the crystal that fell and shattered to the floor disappearing in the black blood, when she looked back she could see the figure before them in her usual form. She stood standing in place for a moment in silent respect of the passing of a companion then moved forward and knelt down before Re'nah, though her face was expressionless she could feel the emotions whirling around her as she looked at the other, and whispered, "You fought well, and I thank you." She was referring to when Re'nah had stayed behind to let the others escape. "May the Gods grant your soul peace and a rewarding afterlife." She blinked and felt a tear escape her eye and slide down her face, she moved so that her hair would hide it from the others. She stood and moved back and spoke out loud, "She deserves a proper burial."

((I hope that wasn't to much gonk its not often words just flow into one's head.....strange))

The elation that Hunter felt when the creature appeared to be killed and the jewel slipped out of its chest was short lived as the dark mist lifted and revealed the jackal's real identity.

"N-no, t-this can't be happening..." He whispered silently as his sword fell to the floor and he dropped to his knees doing everything he could to fight back the tears, "That c-can't be her, i-it's gotta be a trick...an illusion of some kind.."

As he looked up and saw Sierra go over to the corpse and say some final words to it two realizations hit him and he looked up at the elf.

"Y-you...you knew? All this time you knew I was fighting HER and you didn't tell me?" Not waiting for an answer he stood up and looked at Vestakia and Firion, "Did you two know that was too?"

Between the hounds earlier and Re'nah's bite, Hunters arm was beginning to drip blood on the marble floor, but he didn't notice it or the pain as other emotions took over and he felt his the tears fighting harder now.

Vestakia looked down at the cracked marble floor when the jackal girl passed, her hand folded in front of her and she wrung them together nervously as Sierra spoke, the red fading from her right eye. she felt out of place, she could not grieve this wasn't her friend, she lifted her eyes when Hunter spoke but quickly dropped them again. "I-I could smell it...I could smell her, I saw the lock of hair you carried back at the camp, it carried her smell, I was used to the sent of Death so I could smell her sent lying beneath." she half whispered she looked up again, but this time at his bleeding arm. 'so pretty...' the voice echoed in her head. "You have to understand...it wasn't her, whatever Jasper had done to her, it wasn't her any more."

Instead of looking at Hunter, her eyes travelled around the room, without the fog of her other self now she noticed someone was missing. "Where is Zanth?" she asked her nose twitching as she sniffed around for him, only to smell his blood on Hunter. the hairs on the back of her neck rose and her eyes widened. "Hunter...where is he?" she asked worry for her Goblin friend removing anything else from her mind.

Sierra stood in silence her hair covering her face and the few tears that streamed down her cheeks not wanting anyone to see. She clenched her jaw but kept her mouth shut when Hunter accused her of knowing that it was Re'nah. She listened to what Vestakia had said to Hunter then remembered the first time she had come face to face with the undead Re'nah and remembered the corpse saying 'Help me' but she did not say anything to anyone about it, especially not now and not to Hunter.

After a few moments she looked up and glanced back at the others, then turned away and walked to her sword in silence, picked it up and stood there with the tip touching the ground, "I was hoping for your sake that you wouldn't find out," In one smooth movement she sheathed her sword in the harness on her back and let her arm drop to her side. "I was trying to spare you the pain." Taking a deep breath she turned to face Hunter and stared at him.

Hunter picked up his sword and sheathed it, his head still down and his voice slightly agitated as he answered Vestakia's question.
"Last I saw he was half-conscious and riding towards the festival grounds on Sheera" He responded to the she-wolf, "but given my luck with 'friends' today he's probably dead by now or worse..."

Without saying anything else he turned to look at Firion and Sierra, gritted his teeth and just shook his head at the elf and dragon as they told him what they knew about Re'nah before turning from the group and running out the shattered castle doors and into the city, it had started to rain but he didn't care, it just helped mask the tears and gave him a back up so he didn't have to tell anyone that he had been crying, but that was something he'd deal with later right now he didn't care where he went he just had to get away, away from the pain, away from the hurt, away from the death to think to clear his head and to refocus on what to do next.

((No worries Firion, just wanted to make sure you didn't get lost in the shuffle and have us go too far ahead for you))

Firion, or what used to be him, looked at the group, almost unaffected by what had happened recently, but when Hunter asked him if he knew that the possesed being was Ren'ah he only grunted, "Yes, I knew. However I never intended to let you know. Your kind is soft, especially the owner of this body. If I hadn't taken over he would have probably stopped you from ending her, but I guess we will never now will we?" the deathly voice of the Guardian who possesed the dragon echoing through the room.

After the Guardian had finished his duty, he removed himself from the body, Firion's eyes turning back to their original shade of blue. When the dargon saw Hunter running out of the castle, he was about to run after him, but stopped himself and looked to the group. "What happened while Marfedelom, was in my place?" he asked nervously. Whenever the Guardian of Death took over he knew no good came out of it.

Vestakia turned to glare at Firion and waved her hand to Re'nah corpse. "How about you use your eyes for once...what do you think happened!" She snarled. "Get ready to leave by sunrise, The Kings sons should return tonight and i have to salvage whats left of the supplies from the caravan..." She walked over to Sierra and sighed. "You heard his offer, it is definitely a trap, but its all we have...we'll head towards the Arena, we'll wake at dawn and bury your friend properly before we depart...I'm going to find Zanth, your welcome to join me and bring her, we can at least get her ready for burial along with the rest who fell today." with a final glance at the corpse on the throne floor, Vestakia turned and left the throne room. moving at a steady pace she made it to a small group of medical tents that had just been set up around Grandmothers.

She followed her nose into the old Elf's tent and let out a sigh of relief as she saw Zanth resting peacefully on one of the cots a bandage wrapped around his middle. her eyes flicked to her guardian as the old woman stood up from a stool next to Zanth and smiled warmly at Vestakia holding out a cup of tea. "He'll be fine, tough little creature he is and the fairy magic that flows in him helped greatly." she explained as Vestakia knelt by her friends side and moved some of the red hair out of his face. "and thanks to Hunter's wolf, she got him here quickly without moving him to much so i didn't have to heal anything extra. now he just needs rest and his own magic will do the rest." Vestakia said nothing and only nodded, she knew whatever she told the elf would be old news, she saw things before they happened even if she couldn't reveal what she saw. "You already knew this was going to happen didn't you." Vestakia whispered. "Yes." again Vestakia only nodded and opted to remain silent before standing up and moving over to a cot next to Zanth and laid down, needed a good nap before she got the others together and left Argonos to go after the King and Jasper.

Sierra looked over to Firion as he returned to himself and asked what had happened, she stood in silence even as Vestakia came over and spoke to her then nodded in agreement to what she said, when she had finished speaking Sierra walked over to Re'nah's lifeless form and looked over to Firion, her voice but a whisper, "Someone had to set her free from his curse." She knelt then and gently, like a mother would pick up her child Sierra picked Re'nah up and slowly raised to her feet, her hair covering her face, "Now she will get the peace she deserves." She turned and walking with care followed after Vestakia back to the tents.

When she arrived she entered a tent and laid Re'nah down on one of the beds, the trip from the castle and carrying her friend tired her, but she did not show it. After she had arranged the other on the bed she sat down nearby and remained there in silent contemplation as she guarde over the warrior in her eternal slumber.

"You know, it's okay to cry for a fallen friend," Hunter said to Sierra from the door of the tent that she had entered earlier, "and not a sign of weakness either to show it as well as get some rest when you're tired besides I don't think Rae would be too happy if she knew that we were hurting ourselves on her behalf."

He walked over to where the elf was sitting keeping an eye on Rae'nah and sat down in a chair that had been left by the cot that the body had been placed on.

In all the running away that he had done from the castle, Hunter had somehow found himself back at the tavern where this whole crazy day had begun and saw that because of the fighting and some other bigger creature that he couldn't figure out, it was badly damaged. He had spent some time looking around the clean-up crew until he he found Kisuke helping how he could without injuring himself further and filled him in on what had happened at the castle and extended the invitation to come stay with the gypsies until they left. It was then that he finally felt physically weak and, after making a temporary wrap to stop the bleeding from his arm decided to head back to the festival grounds where he assumed everyone else would be. He had just barely arrived when he noticed Sierra carrying Re'nah's body into one of the tents and decided to follow her.

"Given all the magic wards I'm sure that are up in the city and being placed as we speak I'm sure nothing will happen to Re'nah," Hunter added quickly, "but if it would make you feel better, I'll keep an eye on her for a while, I don't think I could sleep right now even if I wanted to." He gave a slight smile thankful that she couldn't see the redness in his own eyes from his own tears for the friend that had helped saved both their lives.

((Just a side note in case anyone is confused about this post, the middle paragraph about Hunter's return to the tavern and meeting up with Lunar's character happened before the first sentence in this post, Sorry about the wall-o-text... sweatdrop ))

Zanth groaned and shifted in his sleep his mind being forced into a state of awareness and his body immediately took up the opportunity to start hurting again. He opened his eyes slowly and turned his head towards he entrance of the tent he found himself in, all he could remember was Hunters shouts at him to stay awake and then the ride on the giant wolf before he slipped out of consciousness. his eyes roamed around the tent where he found Vestakia sleeping in the cot next to him, but she was the only person there, who even had attended to him left.

Carefully he sat up, biting back a whimper as his middle throbbed, he stared down at the bloodied bandage and sighed. 'right...death hounds...' he whispered to himself in his own thoughts. He stood from the cot and made his way to the entrance of the tent and pulled back the flap, the bright sunlight blinding him momentarily until he was able to take in his surroundings. Everywhere healers were bustling around ordering a cot to be moved to a different tent or yelling for more bandages or aid when a patient wouldn't stop thrashing around from the pain of their injuries. Zanth lowered his head, he had caused all this and tears threatened to fall from his eyes as two men walked in front of him carrying a stretcher with a body on it, he couldn't see who for they were covered in a while cloth, but the body was small and the hand popping out from under it was a child's hand. after the stretcher passed Zanth wandered into one of the many tents, and found Hunter and Sierra sitting there near a dead body and from the atmosphere, he could feel the loss.

Vestakia had relayed to him their story of escape and he heard of the Jackal woman and the half Blood Demon that had died. and now it seemed she had died again thanks to Jasper's horrible magic. Zanth shifted uncomfortably, hoping the others didn't see him yet, he didn't know if he should leave or not but his abdomen twinged painfully and he held in a sharp intake of breath and made his way over to one of the cots and sat down. "I'm sorry..." he said quietly to Hunter and Sierra his eyes fixed on the corpse before him, this hadn't been his fault but he had helped Jasper with the distraction so he could take the Dragon King and give the champion's their 'present'. he didn't know why he was serving the Dark King, a clean death just wasn't a reason someone betrayed his friends and Jasper was going to kill him and his family no matter what he did to serve him, maybe he just did it to live a little longer, to keep his family alive for just a few more moments to give them a chance to say unsaid things or to tell each other how much they cared for one another. He felt a tear run down his cheek and wiped it away quickly. 'what am i doing...' he thought quietly hanging his head in shame.

He thought about tell Hunter and Sierra what he had done, and maybe out of pity, or hate, he didn't care which, they would end his pitiful life but the words would not form as they got stuck in his throat so he remained quiet his sensitive ears picking up the cries of others just outside the safety of the tent and causing more of the salty liquid to run down his cheeks.
