Marcus swallowed, unsure of whether or not he should laugh. Instead, he glanced out of the window and spotted the cool, moonwashed slope. "You can see it from here."

Terryn craned her neck and looked out the window. "It looks peaceful enough. Are you sure that your grandmother will not know we are coming here at all?" Terryn used to a have secret spot, in the backwoods of her manor, where she could practice archery. Well, Serina had uncovered that soon enough and reported her to her father, who kept her in her room for a month.

Marcus shrugged. "There's a very slim chance of her finding out. But really, you don't think that they'll be at all disappointed if they discover it? They'll just take it as yet another indication that we've absolutely fallen in love with one another," he said, this time, a very real scoff leaving his mouth.

"Yes, that is true." Terryn sighed halfheartedly. "It is getting a little too easy to bend them to our will. There is no challenge in it." She looked at the rose for a moment before yawning and leaning slightly on Marcus. "See now it would be interesting if we actually did love each other and had to hide our feelings."

Marcus blinked and looked at her for half a moment before giving a noncommittal shrug. He shifted slightly as to make Terryn more comfortable."Yes, that would be interesting." But love was an impossibility. Love did not exist. There was affection, and friendship, and lust, and Marcus was quite convinced that the combination of all three misled people to believe that they were in love. But Marcus had also convinced himself that never, ever would he be a fool and deceive himself into thinking he was in love, and deceive himself into marriage and a predictable, horrible life.

Terryn stayed silent after that point, her mind racing with thoughts that were actually quite similar to those in Marcus's head. The thought of falling in love was rather ludicrous, especially with someone so open with his conquests and overly arrogant in his demeanor. Still, he made for good banter.

And those three qualities were certainly present in Terryn. She knew him better than any girl he'd ever met, and he did care for her (even though he would never have admitted it), and there were most definitely times that he longed to explore her, the times having become more frequent since the last time he'd seen Arianna. "We're here," he said abruptly, when the coach stopped.

"I can see that." Terryn took her time getting up as the carriage stopped, slowly pushing herself up and allowing the coachman to help her out. She stepped onto the soft grass and looked around her. Even an ice queen like her had to admit, it was rather beautiful. "Lovely..." The way she said it was different than normally. Instead of it being sarcastic and rough, it was soft, breathless, sincere.

Marcus smiled at her, and it was genuine. He stepped down lightly. "Comparable even to the DuBois's castle?" he asked, turning his head slightly.

Terryn shivered, both from the cold and the thought of the DuBois family. "The castle has nothing at all on this place. They have two servants, both well past their prime. The entire manor is covered in dust and they do not even have the decency to bathe or at least wear some pleasant perfume." She frowned. "They are insufferable."

OOC: Ooh, they should fall asleep. Like, for the night.
Marcus nodded. "Their eldest daughter is worse looking than their fattest pig," he said, quite honestly. He sank down on the grass. "Come, sit. Unless you're afraid of soiling your gown."

((ooooo yeah))
"Soiling my gown?" Terryn sat down next to him, running her hand through the grass. "Have I ever given off the air of a woman who cares whether or not her gown is soiled? As a matter of fact..." She leaned back, laying on the ground to look up at the multitude of stars. "I wish I could rid myself of this accursed thing right now."

Perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad idea, mused Marcus. He lay down now, spreading his arms. He closed his eyes. "This is nice," he murmured, as the cool grass tickled his cheek.

Terryn had a somewhat dreamy, relaxed look on her face. "It is..." She took a deep breath, feeling a sort of relief that she hadn't felt in a long time. Normally, she always had her father and stepmother breathing down her neck, but now, with Marcus, she had an escape. As long as they kept up appearances, they were pretty much free to do as they pleased without fear of too much added stress. And besides, it wasn't like Marcus was the hardest person to fall for...well, pretend to fall for.

It seemed to him, as he reflected upon it, that in that moment the wind carried away all of Marcus's wits. "Do you...recall what you were speaking about in the coach?" he asked, his words inarticulate and quiet.
