Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Hunter's Log
Entry 1
October 23, 2014

There used to be more of us. Hunters. People that knew what they were doing. We traveled the country with nothing more than our cars, the weapons we Jimmy-rigged ourselves, and the fake Ids we forged. It was a family business. One Hunter had kids. Those kids were raised to hunt. They became Hunters. Those Hunters had kids. The cycle continued.

My sister and I were part of that circle. Both of our parents were Hunters. We spent more of our lives learning to hold a gun than we did how to write cursive. By the age of nine I could take apart our dad's semi-auto rifle, clean it, and put it back together again faster than most military trained men. As the older sibling, I was always left in charge when Mom and Dad left to go Hunting. It was my job to watch over Samantha. I'd keep an eye on her until they got back.

Then one day they left on a job. And never came back.

I moved Samantha and I into our aunt's home. She raised us. Put us through college. Samantha graduated and became a Preschool teacher. I dropped out. Got a job as a mechanic. Got married. Had a daughter of my own.

We were normal.

That all changed one fateful night on December 22, 2010. I had been working late at the garage, trying to get a few of the jobs done so we wouldn't have much to come back to once the holiday was done. It was dark when I entered the house. Nothing was out of place. But I could tell, from years of still checking under the bed, that something was wrong.

I found my wife half eaten on the floor of our bedroom.

The Ghoul was dispatched out of pure instinct. Gabby was hidden away in her closet. Cleaning up the mess, we packed up and left.

Samantha housed us for a while. I started hunting again. Samantha kept a close eye on Gabby. Of course, things are never simple. Once your name is out there, they will come. Hunters were never safe. Not even their family. After the minor possession, Samantha joined us and we traveled around.

Life continued. Gabby went to different schools ever few weeks. In her spare time, she learned how to hold a knife. How to fire a gun and kill. Her own home life became her dirty little secret. She was only six.

Samantha died on March 26, 2012. A Siren convinced the Hunter she was seeing to bash her skull in. He never recovered from the Siren's Song. Instead, he continued to go on a homicidal rampage. I had to put a bullet through his brain. Ironically fitting.

A week later, I learned there was a massive Demonic movement.

In 2013, I met the demon known as Asmodeus. He mentioned the comings of Lucifer and Abbadon. I exercised him. He killed the seventeen year old boy in the process.

I didn't want to believe it. But the signs were all there.

The final straw happened on December 31, 2013. Right before the stroke of midnight. The Gate was opened, the locks broken and the Legion released.

Plagues swept across the land. It killed most. Some managed to avoid getting sick. The rest became something right out of the Walking Dead. They weren't human. They weren't dead. They weren't living. But they had an uncontrollable hunger for flesh. Of any kind.

Beasts, monsters, creatures lurk everywhere. It's a Hunter's nightmare. Our own personal brand of Hell.

I've met a few survivors along the way. Some have set up small refugee towns that remain heavily guarded. Hunters have become the new sought after hero. Very few places will turn away anyone with Hunter's skill and knowledge.

Demons walk around, possessing people to their fancy. Angels hide among us. Neither side seems to care that people are dying. There are the select rare few that seem to have some compassion, but it always ends the same. The human dies if it means a victory for their side.

It's chaos. And no one is upstairs waiting to save us.

My name is Daniyel Edward Enis. My Hunting name is Gambit. I was born in the back of a car in a small town in Minnesota. I was born to Mary Annabell Enis (ne Collins) and Randall Joseph Enis. I was married to a woman named Alexis Jade Enis (ne Hendrikson). I am the father of a daughter named Gabrielle Eileen Enis. I am one of the surviving Hunters left on Earth. And I am here to tell you this.

We are alone.
