Esperanto is a language designed by Dr. Zamenhof to be a neutral universal second language. His goal was to achieve more international peace and understanding.
Today Esperanto proves useful as a neutral second language with negligible to no exceptions, and a very straightforward and easy to learn grammar.
Its vocabulary has roots in many languages but it has a lot of Latin based vocabulary. Anyone who speaks a Latin based language will find the vocabulary very easy to learn as well.
Because of its ease it is learned in a fraction of the amount of time it takes natural languages to be learnt. It also provides a good example when studying other languages.
