THE DAFFODIL MOVEMENT
This is a cancer awareness movement originally brought to Gaia in support of Long Vo (aka VO, art director and admin here on Gaia), whose father died from cancer April 2006.
The Daffodil Movement is usually held through the month of April. Traditionally during the event, users equip a daffodil bouquet on their avi to show support. The yellow daffodil is a symbol of renewal and hope, chosen by the American Cancer Society as an icon for the fight against cancer.
One of the most unique things about TDM is that we very much emphasize diverse and intelligent awareness in order to make people see just how widespread and serious this disease is. We stress that awareness is more than just knowing, it's understanding. We do this with different cancer teams that compete during the event as they talk and learn more about the type they're representing.
The guild is where the awareness teams can meet up and chat. It's also where we hold contests and stuff. Please send your join request or post in the forums any time! We'd love to have you. ;3 In the off season, when April's over and the Movement's not going on, the guild is still a place where people can come make dedicated memorials to their loved ones in the Memorial forum, or participate in random chatter in the Chat forum.
Current reigning spirit champs: The 2017 winner of the spirit contest is the advocates of Children's Cancers, specifically the mother of a young girl with Wilms' tumor. The donation will go to St. Jude's or another hospital once we can look more into them.
"Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, Wilms' tumor is the most common cancer of the kidneys in children. It most often affects children ages 3 to 4 and becomes much less common after age 5." Sadly too little funding goes into Cancer research and hospitals, especially those for children.
Please do not donate to the guild. If you'd like to donate, send donations to the guild mule The Daffodil Movement
The only cure for grief is love.
To all those lost, rest in peace. We will never forget you.
There is no form to join. However, as many people like to explain their reasons for joining, the guild is not set to auto-accept. If you do not want to explain, you don't have to. :3
