The Book of the Ancients

"Long ago, there existed a jewel of immense power, a sentient Crystal that endured outside of time and space. The light of this Crystal spread into all dimensions of conscious reality. Every world, every moment in history felt its presence.

It was from this immaculate light that the Elysians were born. Beings of unimaginable strength and beauty, these divine creatures were charged with the protection of all that fell under the Crystal's radiance. In times of strife, they were summoned by the most courageous of heros to battle the malevolent forces that gathered within the Crystal's shadow.

The legend of these exalted saviors differed widely between many worlds and races. Tales of magic, spirits, and guardian forces surrounded the mysterious entities. They were called eidolons, avatars, aeons and many other things. Their true origins remained obscure for centuries.

Until one day, inexplicably, the Elysians vanished. The light of the Crystal faded until only the smallest glimmer twinkled over a little world called Gaia..."
