      xxxxxxxx「 For years the Soul Society has been the more dominant power in the four realms. Maintaining the balance of souls, and keeping the power of the Hollows in check by culling their numbers and protecting the souls of the Living Realm, The Gotei 13 was unchallenged in their authority, that is until their numbers were divided between themselves.

      xxxxHistorical records have been unreliable in establishing the cause, but 500 years ago a major conflict developed that divided the Sereietei. Noble families, Captains, and their entire Divisions turned against one another as sides were taken. The bloody Shinigami Civil War raged on for years, decimating the Soul Society and the Shinigami's numbers. By the time the war came to an end, nearly a century later, the victors took power and established a new ruling power.

      xxxxThe war had the Shinigami so engaged, the balance of souls went unregulated. Hollows were allowed to feed freely, growing in number and power. The remnants of the Quincy in the Living Realm, once hanging by a thread had a resurgence, silently establishing a new foothold among the Humans. The Soul Society however would spend nearly another two centuries rebuilding and re-establishing themselves.

      xxxxThe survivors of the war would find their opportunity to restructure the Shinigami assets as they saw fit. Abandoning their more traditional practices, The Central 46 was abolished. The 13 squads of the Gotei were reduced to 7, the duties of multiple divisions combined to form a more efficient structure. The surviving defeated Nobles and Captains were banished from the Sereietei under penalty of death. The era of reconstruction in the Soul Society was largely successful, despite the various uprisings from Traditionalist sympathizers and estranged Nobles. But the progressive new Gotei 7 drove on into the future, cementing their control over the Sereitei.

      xxxxTwo hundred years ago the Shinigami celebrated the completion of their Reconstruction and the official dawn of their new age. Soul Reaper duties resumed in the world of the living, and the Shinigami struggled to pacify the emboldened and empowered Hollows feeding upon spiritually aware humans and abandoned souls, unable to cross over into the Soul Society. With their hands full, the Gotei has handled the challenges pitted against them due to their own past mistakes with hope for the future. 」
