The standard rules:

  1. Anyone caught unintentionally breaking the rules may be greylisted on a case-by-case basis. Anyone caught intentionally breaking the rules will be blacklisted.
  2. Anyone unable to take two minutes of their time and read the first page before posting is AUTOMATICALLY greylisted without question. This includes people who ask "How do I buy a pet?" or "How much are they?" when instructions and availability are posted on the first page.
  3. Be respectful of other owners and their familiars and other pets.
  4. No In Character fighting unless it is a situation the owners agree upon. No OOC fighting period.
  5. No godmodding. Your familiars do not go super saiyan, they cannot toss ki balls, and they do not modify others' reactions or actions by themselves.
  6. No posting "Is anyone here?" or anything similar. This is a forum, not a chatroom. People do not watch the thread 24 hours a day.
  7. Art theft of any kind will be punished to the full extend of our powers to include calling upon the moderators.
  8. No whining, drama, rudeness, or other un-nice things. We dont care if your boyfriend left you for another guy, or that you were not the winner in a raffle. Keep the negative things out of the threads and the positive things in.
  9. You must name your familiar within 3 days of the talisman carving or we will consider it abondoned and put it up for adoption. There will be no refunds for familiars you abandoned.
  10. All sales, unless otherwise noted will be pure gold only.
  11. Do not ask for a job. If we are hiring we will state that plainly on the front page. Asking for a job any other time will just annoy us and make us want to blacklist you.
  12. The senior staff reserves the right to modify any of these rules as we see fit.
  13. The staff follows a strict hierarchy. If a Warrior Mage (colorist) says one thing, and a Guild Elder (shop manager) says another, the Guild Elder is always right. In a similar vein, any concern you might have should be directed toward the proper person via PM. If you have comments, questions, or concerns about a specific coloring, ask the Warrior Mage in question. If you have questions/concerns/suggestions/whatever about breedings or sales, contact the Guild Elders. If you have complaints of any kind, they are to be directed toward the Guildmaster only.
  14. No co-ownership of any familiar. One owner per familiar. This makes dividing up ownership of babies extremely difficult, especially when there is an odd number of children.
  15. By buying (or obtaining as a gift) a familiar or a talisman, you are agreeing that it can be requisitioned at any time for any reason. Do not forget that if you choose to be an arsehole, in or out of Gaia, your familiar's ownership will be put in peril. If your familiar is taken away for breaking the rules, there will be no refunds, even if you voluntarily give up your familiar. Arseholes beware.

The guild rules:

  • If there is a thread that says "Do not post here", DO NOT POST THERE.
  • On the same note, if there is a private roleplaying thread between two people, please respect them by asking via PM before joining in.
  • If your post was edited, it was edited for a reason. If you wish to contest this, send a PM to the Guild Elder explaining what happened.
  • The guild is primarily for roleplay, announcements, general chat between owners, staff, and potential customers about their familiars or the shop itself. Please do not turn this into the Chatterbox.

  • Small Familiar - No requirements, buy as many as you like.
  • Large Familiar - Ownership of two Small Familiars for at least two weeks each (per Large Familiar).
  • Dark Familiars - Ownership of two Large Familiars, and special permission is required from the Guildmaster.
  • Fir Familiars (coming soon) - Dont call us, we'll call you.

Familiars start out life as normal animals. When a Warrior Mage carves a wooden talisman and infuses it with magic, the animal is infused with magic and is compelled to join the one who summoned it. Often, only death can break this bond between owner and pet.

Small Familiars

Small Familiars are the very basic of the Warrior Mage servants and pets. The reason for this is because they are the easiest to summon, requiring only a specially-prepared wooden block, a carving knife, and a little determination. More often than not, these Familiars are in the hands of beginners, though a few of the more-experienced Warrior Mages keep them around long after they have "upgraded" their talismans.

Large Familiars

Large Familiars are often the core of the "Familiar Army", as some would call it. Though not as numerous as their smaller cousins, Large Familiars do have more use and utility. Only experienced Warrior Mages are able to summon Large Familiars, as it requires a wooden block, a specially-prepared potion to cure the block with, a hefty amount of gold coins, and a lot of skill in the workings of magic.

The Bat, the Rat, the Crow, the Piglet, the Rabbit, and the Squirrel.

Barbarians
The Barbarian's life is a simple one, but not an easy one. The field of combat is our crib; the blood of foes is mother's milk to us. Stand with us, and flesh your sleepless sword in training in the field. Live with us, and steel your mind against the taint of Magic's aid. Die with us, and drive your body to a warrior's dogged end while those of lesser mettle cower at inglorious range! Inner Fire is the measure both of rage and of control, and the substance of Barbarian heart and guts; in purity, it fuels the bloodlust of the battle-hardened and stills the mind of the meditator. But be wary - the taint of magic will disrupt this fragile balance of body and soul, so leave the mana-meddling to those who lean on magic as a crutch!

Bards
Masters of Music, and well schooled in a wide range of skills and lore, a Bard drinks in all he or she can of the happenings of the lands and uses it to their advantage. To attempt to define a Bard is to try to put order to the sands on the shore -- they are warriors, performers, wanderers, teachers, scholars... and much much more. A boon to any adventuring group, their area-affecting magic can be instrumental to its survival and success. Be sure to bring extra libations, for a Bard's job is thirsty work.

Cleric
The Clerics of Elanthia are a vastly diverse group, as different in their beliefs as there are combinations of the dozens of Immortals that manifest in everyday life. Clerics span the spectrum from the benevolent worshipers of the Light gods to the malevolent minions of the Dark gods, as well as the Keepers of Balance in between. We are the Priests of War and the Patrons of Peace. We are the menders of the soul and the force that shears it like fresh meat. We are the most feared opponent of the Undead and the summoners of ancient spirits.

Empath
Empaths are highly attuned to other living creatures, allowing them to heal the wounds of others. Such powers have their drawbacks, however; since Empaths are so close to the pain of the living beings around them, if they so much as try to harm another living creature they will lose their ability to heal for a time. If they kill, such ability can be lost forever. That doesn't mean, however, that Empaths are barred from combat. Many choose the path of the Battle Empath, with defensive skills and abilities often outstripping those of the hunters they seek out to heal.

Moon Mage
Moon Mages are an esoteric collective of magicians, scholars and soothsayers from several different sects. Known for the versatile and powerful magic that flows from their fingertips and their ability to foretell the future, Moon Mages are among the most potent spellcasters on Elanthia. Their abilities are tied closely to the rising and setting of the three moons Xibar, Yavash and Katamba, as well as the motions of other heavenly bodies. Thus when the skies smile down upon a Moon Mage, his powers are strong; yet when all the moons have set, he is considerably weaker.

Paladin
A Paladin is a Holy Warrior, touched and graced by the gods themselves. Through a path of righteous dedication to the guild's teachings and through service to the Immortals, the worthy are rewarded for their valor and honor with abilities blessed from the deities and emerge into an extreme force to reckon with. Woe to the villain who stands before the Paladin submerged in deceit and evil ways!

Ranger
The Rangers of Elanthia eschew the comforts and conveniences of civilization, making themselves at home in the wilderness. They stand guard over the provinces, holding back the hordes of terror that live on the flesh of the innocent. They most often stand alone, yet in the bleakest moments of battle no other sound can offer comfort like that of a whistling arrow fired from his bow. For these silent hunters, no fame or fortune can match the pride they take in the mastery of their own abilities or their unity with nature.

Thief
Beyond skulking in shadows and relieving the careless of their burden of coin, Thieves' superior stealth, hyper-aware senses, and familiarity with locks and traps make them valuable additions to any adventuring party. A life in the shadows is like no other -- never above the law, but always one step in front of it.

Trader
Traders are all about making money, pure and simple. The Guild rules the transportation business with an iron fist, and through contract work and playing the commodities markets, a Trader earns (or loses) his fortune.

Warrior Mage
Wielding both blade and arcane evocation, Warrior Mages are masters of combat wizardry whose origins are shrouded in the mists of an ancient past. The "Guild of Elemental Mages" traces its roots to the Age of Myths. Despite the severe temperament often attributed to practitioners of elemental magic, down through the ages Warrior Mages have stood guard over Elanthia, protecting her towns and cities from the scourge of invaders and the forces of darkness.
Nursery

For two familiars to breed, several conditions must exist:

  • A breeding slot must be open.
  • The male and female pair must have roleplayed being mated for at least one week
  • A breeding fee must be paid. 6000 gold if the couple are two Small Familiars, 9000 gold if they are a Small and a Large Familiar together, and 12000 for two Large Familiars.

Once these conditions are met, the two are taken away from the owners for a short time while they... uh... breed. The Warrior Mage on duty will take care of the arrangements and ensure the babies are healthy.
Each mating produces two to four babies. Two is the usual number, whereas three babies are very rare. Four is almost an impossibility.
The usual chart for the number of babies is below:
Two - 85%
Three - 13%
Four - 2%

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Am I required to roleplay these pets?
    No.

  2. Can I roleplay pets from other shops?
Due to conflicts with other shops, no, unless written permission is given.

  3. Can my familiar breed with another pet?
No. Familiars cannot breed with pets from other shops due to legal and artistic complications.

  4. Can my gerbil familiar breed with a rabbit familiar?
Yes! We have no restrictions on interspecies breeding. Just be warned, however, that when a Small familiar is bred with a Large familiar, a good majority of the babies (if more than 2) will be Small. Try not to breed a bear with a mouse, otherwise the mouse would explode.

  5. Are there any restrictions on roleplaying?
Yes and no. We do not impose restrictions on how you roleplay, but we still do not like l337speak. If you think "Ur" is a word meaning "Your" or "You're" instead of an ancient Mesopotamien city, you are not welcome here. Go away. Please do not interupt two people who are engaged in a private roleplay without first asking permission via PMs. Anyone who does so will be dealt with quite harshly.

  6. Can the familiars speak?
Yes! The magic that infuses them increases their intelligence to human levels, granting them the ability to understand and speak english (or, as called in this world, Common). They also have a limited form of telepathy, which is restricted to the familiar and the owner only.

  7. What else can familiars do?
Familiars, like miniature humans, can do many things thanks to their intelligence and magical infusion. Some specifically craft arms and armor for those familiars adverturous enough to go wondering away from their owners. Like humans, familiars are also proficient in the special abilities of their select guild. Regretably, Commoners are left out from these guild goodies.

  8. None of the images (shop, familiars, anything) show up except as Red Xs!
Blame my webhosting provider. Occasionally something like this will happen. Usually it only lasts for about 15 minutes, sometimes an hour. Be patient and everything will return to normal.
