Welcome to Gaia! ::

It was meant to remain a secret forever, hidden deep beneath a condemned house never to be unearthed by human hands. For reasons beyond the comprehension of the regular, immense and dangerous power is trapped in the words of a prominent old book: one entitled The Forgotten documents..

But two foolish thieves in search of a luxurious and well concealed home fall victim to the lures of The Library. What was once a mere myth of the town, folklore of strange children originating from the books of a library no one has seen, turned into a hushed truth.

And this is where our story begins.

Welcome to the Headquarters of the Forgotten documents. Everyone here is dearly welcomed, however you must be cautioned that the occurrences of children originating from books has fluctuated since we've moved in.

Be forewarned of this, and do not go down to the Library.

July 29th: Oh dear. It's seemed that, with the disturbance of The Book, things are starting to heat up. Many of the Forgotten are in very bad moods today, acting out of character or with dangerous amounts of magic. What on Gaia could be happening to stir such changes? Could.. could The Book have something to do with this, or perhaps the mysterious timepiece..

It's working its way backwards from twelve hours. The meaning or significance of this is completely unknown.

Maybe it'll become clearer once time is up.

June 29th: Welcome, Aki Ana and Reyna Crelos into the guardianship of two fine new female Forgotten. Also, a custom auction is underway, be sure to drop by! Auction thread.

June 18th: "This is some very strange business.. just take a look at that Book.. @_@.. "

May 14th: Letters are overflowing in the mailbox of Pippin and Ciara's residence, newspapers piling up on the front porch. It seems that concerns about the building's structure have been sifting about at City Hall, and a decision has been made to tear down the mansion and rebuild it completely, with no charge to the couple for doing so.

In true Pippin fashion, these warnings of building condemnation have been ignored, as if they'll just go away if he decides not to pay attention. The deadline for the couple to temporarily move out for the demolition, May 25th, is soon approaching.. On top of this, the Book has been sporatically leaking out words, even whole sentences, for short periods of time.

All guardians are called to pitch in their support. If the building is destroyed, the threat to both the discovery of the Library as well as damage to the timeless collection is also threatened. On top of that, is the Book trying to tell us something? Is this its own panic, knowing its own untimely destructive future? Can we risk the exposure of these books as well as the existing Forgotten documents, knowing this Library may be the only chance we'll get into insight of their purpose?

Everyone is called to action. Something must be done!
SEEKING A CO-OWNER/GENERAL MANAGER.
What does this mean for the Feedee? Well, as I'm sure everyone's noticed that, since entering college, my time for Gaia has rapidly decreased. I love the Forgotten Documents. The project has flourished into something I could never have imagined would have been possible for Lizzi and I to achieve. And though Lizzi is no longer an active part of this project, the concept and characters she helped to breathe life into still remain with us.

It has come to a point where I feel the need to begin my search for a suitable successor to the Feedee. A second-in-command, if you will. I will never leave completely, but with my time constraints as they are, it is unfair to the project we love so much to be neglected as it has come to be.

What are you looking for in a person?
    - Ability to make and follow through with deadlines, proposed events. This is something I'm guilty of, myself, so it'd be hypocritical of me to expect too much of someone else. However, saying one thing and meaning or doing another is NOT what the Feedee needs.
    - Honesty.
    - Someone who can set aside personal bias and not let it interfere with shop issues. It is impossible to be perfectly unbiased, but going out of your way to avoid favouring one party or another in time of conflict [unless, of course, one is being completely unreasonable.. use your judgement.] is highly commendable.
    - Commitment. I want to know that you will be around, that you will be a highly active and involved person [barring unforeseeable personal issues], and that everyone, not just me, can come to rely on your being around for many aspects of the shop's life.
    - Creativity.
    - Patience. There are many, many aspects to this job, and most of them are not shiny and rewarding. So, patience is gold.

What would my duties consist of?
As a general manager, you would be the head of everything, the one running the show. This is why appointing this job to anyone has been daunting, if not completely unnerving. I have named temporary shop leaders during my mid-semester absence, and you may ask any of them how contributing to a shop like this can be. [They are allowed to apply for this position, as well. In the event that someone completely new is appointed, they will still be major players in the metaplot and shop activities, so do not think they can or will be excluded from such.]

To name a few: front page maitenence, guild upkeep, event hosting, quest giving, roleplay/journal activitiy enforcer, median between conflicting parties, metaplot progressor..

One thing that I ask sincerely is that you respect my and Lizzi's wishes in the direction the Forgotten Documents is and will be taking. I will not hesitate to step back in and sever your management ties if I hear or witness radical changes in plotline, for example, or if I see or am informed of incidences in which you were out of line with your power and influence.

On that looovely note, if I haven't managed to frighten you off by this point, and honestly wish to apply for the position, please send me a private message. You need not say anything more than notify me of your interest; I'll respond with any and all questions I see fit to ask. Hopefully from there things progress smoothly, and I find person suitable to take the reigns.

Remember - I'm never gone! Just think of it as.. overseeing from a distance, ehehe. Now.. back to the fun, ^0^!

All was supposed to be lost forever..

As the saying goes, you should not judge a book by its cover. The building owned by Ciara and Pippin is in definate need of repairs. Both sides of the mansion are lushed with tall trees, their green beautifully complimenting the orange hued, aged wood making up the exterior as well as the spacious porch. But the outside tells nothing of what is on the inside, for the building itself shows a passer-by nothing of extraordinary life and the mystery that surrounds it.

Instead, one must take a closer look inside. A staircase, unsafe by the look of it, sits directly inside the hallway upon entry. To the right is a large and quite spacious Stalker Hall, complete with makeshift seating areas and entertainment systems to keep visitors occupied. It has a doorway directly linked into the kitchen, which takes up a great deal of the rear of the mansion itself. Every imaginable useful appliance, tabletop surface, seating arrangement, and utensil can be found here, though in desperate need of co-ordination. The dining area is surrounded by scuffy glass windows and is elevated to overlook the backyard.

But if one were to take a left at the entrance instead, they would find less habitable rooms. The building itself hasn't completely, nor even half completely, been repaired, thus the home owners left the rooms less often used alone for the time being. A strange and often eery hallway is full of doors with limitless possibilities, and at the end of the hall a lone window marks a dangerous passage to the right. Cobwebs lock this path off - obviously no one has explored even this far yet.

Up the stairs would bring a person to more unused rooms, though up here they are often locked. [Loot behind these doors, perhaps?] Another set of stairs are available for use in the master bedroom, whose door is left open slightly. Other than these facts, the two upper levels remain the property of Pippin and Ciara, for their "home" purposes.

But, surely a grand place like this would have a basement, you insist! Well, perhaps it does.. but as they say, curiousity killed the cat.

Those who aim to hunt end up the hunted.

No one has ever determined the exact age of the building before. If they would, perhaps they could then link the approximate age of the building to that of the Library is conceals.

Those who are drawn to the Library often say they were lured there, driven by a force often too compelling to miss out on. Music, noises, lights, movement -- an extensive range of bait is just part of the game to catch the perfect prey. Indeed, the exact entrance down to the Library can never be pinpointed - if one goes in search of the Library, they will more than likely waste hours trying to find it and end up empty handed. The Library chooses its pick of the litter, exposing to them more than they ever intended on finding.

What can be said about the entrance is that it opens to a spiral staircase. At the bottom is a single, uncovered light bulb, often not able to sustain a frequent source of electricity. At the foot of the stairs are two immensely tall frosted glass doors. Etched into them is a golden and pale green design of ivy and other assorted leaves, the handles themselves twisting up into the shape of vines with the part meant for a thumb shaped as a leaf. The size alone can leave someone breathless, but to stop and ponder the time required for these designs and the structure, also taking into consideration the time in which they probably were built, would be astounding to imagine.

It is beyond the doors that the magic even begins.

Rows upon rows, endless to the eye, millions upon millions of books. As impossible as it seems, if someone considered how few stairs there really were, the ceiling seems to go incredibly high that one cannot even see where the books end and the ceiling begins. The doors rest almost in the middle, farther to the back than to the Reading end. Behind the square structure are three completely different locked doors, one barred off halfway by another bookshelf. Directly in front, and often the first things one would notice, are the many rows of reachable book shelves. All of this would easily make someone feel insignificant.

At the far end of the Library, a reading-room-turned-office is set, usually the escape room of choice for Pippin. Whether he is there or not depends on the time of day and what is scheduled, but for some reason he can get upstairs and downstairs at an incredible speed, which makes one wonder if he has his own passage, yet another secret..

There is still more to discover. Why don't you?
User Image
And in much simpler terms..

Just in case you're super lazy and don't want to read the above story, and for those who just want a simple break down, here's one for you.

These are high roleplay pets.
They are all custom drawn at every stage.
They are trapped souls within a very ancient library.
Only one person is able to open a single book from a library. [In other words no co owning and no more than one per person.]

They are based on an excerpt, a short paragraph or two extracted from the book the guardian read before they came into being.
This excerpt shapes their lives, but in which way? One must determine that for themselves.
They are accompanied also by a daemon.
Although the excerpt is only description, it is not true that it describes the Forgotten. It merely was born with the piece of paper, the page torn from its own birthplace. Thus, an excerpt can refer to a male and the Forgotten can indeed be female, and vice versa.
The full significance of the excerpt is not clear to anyone.. everyone understands it differently.

No one has access to the library unless they are a Guardian.
When you receive a Forgotten Document, you must be present to roleplay the encounter, the discovery of the library and the choosing of your certain book in the massive library. It usually doesn't take that long, but your character will have to find the Library by means of roleplaying as you are lured.
Although there is no book stage [too cliche and too short of a time for us to bother with one] it will be described to you.

Our goal is to release these Forgotten souls.. so that not only we find them the best environment to occupy and develop in, that we may read the pages of The Forgotten Documents.

Stages___

Stages of the Forgotten Documents are Baby, Toddler, Child, Preteen, Teen, Young Adult, Adult.

Baby
Duration: Minimum two months ; Real Life Equivalent: 2 months - 1.5 years old.

Babies are limited in their ability to communicate. While the Forgotten and daemon's connection is flawless and their ability of understanding one another also so, they are limited in what they can express to the world outside their selves. Both the daemon and Feedee are at the mentality of very young children; they do not come as fully developed people. Therefore, everything that is introduced to them in this life is experienced as if new and bewildering to their blossoming imaginations.

Toddler
Duration: Minimum two months, then quest ; Real Life Equivalent: 2-5 years old.

Toddlers are mobile on their own, and learn how to speak from their caregivers and those around them. During this period, toddlers learn a great deal about social skills, and develop their motor skills properly. It is during this time which the Forgotten toddler and daemon experience a period of independance from their primary family and caregivers, and begin to test the limits of the world around them. It is crucial for the pair to endulge in the company of others besides one another, and to develop their imaginations.

Child
Duration: Minimum three months ; Real Life Equivalent: 6-10 years old.

By the time the Forgotten and daemon have reached child age, they have broadened their social horizons and become more engaged with those around them. Children are taken by impulses, and it is the responsibility of the guardian to help maintain a balance between their newly found self expression with the development of responsibility. However! This stage of life is also one of great adventures, new friendships, and all around having fun!

Preteen
Duration: Minimum four months, then quest ; Real Life Equivalent: 11-14 years old.

At the rough age of preteen, the Forgotten and daemon begin to develop a more realistic view of the world. They gain more realistic and wordly as opposed to fantasy fears and take on more responsibilities in differing ways. And while they are still thinking as children might, their view of others begins to sharpen and contrast, just as their developing sense of self as a unit has become just a little trickier to understand. While it might sound like they are embracing teenage years, preteens still think similar to how they did as children; they are only just beginning to see their world for what it really can be.

Teen
Duration: Minimum five months ; Real Life Equivalent: 15-18 years old.

Ahh, the infamous stage of life that one wishes he or she could simply skip over. Being a Forgotten and daemon teenager means drastic physical, social, and psychological change, much like it does for anyone who reaches this stage of life. Besides the obvious speed bumps - sexual tension, awkward new bodies, and the like - being a Forgotten means asking questions about one's origin. This, especially, is where the pair's excerpt comes into play. It could be the bane of their existance, or it could be the answer to all of life's questions. The only problem is in the interpretation. As if they needed something else nagging them!

Young Adult
Duration: Minimum seven months, then quest ; Real Life Equivalent: 19-34-ish years old.

Phew! You've made it! Young adulthood is a road much smoother than those the Forgotten and daemon pair have become accustomed to travelling on. If all goes well, and teenage demons aren't still reappearing for another round, this is a time of taking the reigns in life and finally embracing full responsibility for one's actions. This doesn't mean the Forgotten and daemon have to settle down and become boring bumps on a log; on the contrary! Find love, strive for compassion, and secure the bonds with those friends and family who'll be there through thick and thin!

Adult
Duration: Forever. ; Real Life Equivalent: 35+.

What's left to say? A Forgotten and daemon pair have a choice to make. If they have not yet deciphered their excerpt by now, it is very likely they never will, and will instead go on to live out a normal, respectable life as two halves of a whole. If not.. well. We'll see what comes to pass.

There are certain rules that we go by, here in the Library.

Hopefully, the occupants of the Headquarters comprehend the basic rules and follow them accordingly. If not, there is a such thing as being banned from the HQ and the Library.

Such rules are basic and those everyone should know already, and yet they have to be said anyway. They are as follows.

User Image

Basic Rules___
Rule One: Positivity is key within the Headquarters. If there are any disagreements, fights, rants, name callings, etc. we will warn you only once to take it elsewhere.
Rule Two: No spamming up the board, please. Bumps, while I suppose they're thoughtful, are unnecessary. Roleplay is more acceptable, as well as out of character talk.
Rule Three: Please don't alter, take, or change the original artwork of the Forgotten. Just don't.
Rule Four: There is no co-owning and neither can a person own more than one Forgotten. Think of it this way: only one person can open a book, and they can open a book from the Library only once. However, another one of your characters may open a book. The only way to achieve this is through auctions only.

User Image

Roleplay Rules___
Rule One: All Forgotten roleplay is formal. Anything silly and not serious roleplay can be informal, but don't forget brackets around it.
Rule Two: Stalkers, lurkers, and any non Guardians are not allowed within the library. Down there, it is a place of magic and lore. Every other part of the Headquarters building is available to you, except the library. It would just take one person to accidentally touch the books to put everyone in a frenzy and plunge people into confusion as to why that book didn't grow.
Rule Three: All roleplay off of Gaia should be documented. We can't read minds, and if someone comes in one day claiming this or with such-and-such a story, we'd like to know what the heck happened to cause it.
Rule Four: Journals should be updated regularly, unless there is something legitimate to prevent this from happening.
Rule Five: You have two months of legitimate hiatus time. If you cannot provide the time for your Forgotten, it would be best to appoint someone else to be their guardian. Similarly, disappearance without explination or lack of attention to your Forgotten will result in loss of guardianship.

User Image

Auction Rules___
Rule One: No discouraging others on bidding. They are free to bid of they would wish to.
Rule Two: You can add to other people's bids, but for confusion's sake please, only the person who is going to be the guardian should be the one making official bids. If you want to contribute to a friend's bidding, please tell them this elsewhere n_n
Rule Three: On the same note, there isn't any co-owning. Just to clarify, because for roleplay sake, as said above, we want to keep things simple.
Rule Four: Calculate your bids for us, please! Use Mid-LD for pricing, too. We accept donation items/letters, event items from '03, fish worth at least 20k, and pure gold. There are exceptions, depending on the value- if you're confused, just ask. (:

User Image

Contest Rules___
Rule One: You cannot edit your entry after it has been submitted. Be sure of it before you submit it, as it is finalized once you hit "Submit."
Rule Two: Try to refrain from getting someone else to proofread your entry and suggest changes. We're looking for your roleplay capability, not your friend's or parent's.
Rule Three: Make sure your entry completes what is being asked of you. The worst thing would be for you to do your entry, only to find out you misread something and end up bugging us for a second chance..
Rule Four: Leave the drama at the door, please! We don't want to have to deal with any disputes or arguments, so if something does arise, don't duke it out in our thread, please. This encompasses anything that gives off negative vibes, </3.
Rule Five: Keep the chatter to a minimum once the contest starts. We appreciate your attempts to keep the thread afloat, but it simply becomes a headache trying to keep up with the entries when there is conversation in between.
Rule Six: IT WILL COST 1K TO ENTER. If you don't confirm the entry fee trade, then your entry will not be considered. Send all trades to me, quietsnooze. 1k is a very low amount for art as fabulous as Lizzi's, so it shouldn't hurt to have to give that much.
Rule Seven: There is no limit to what you can write. We judge on quality, not quantity, however long or short your entry may be. If it effectively wows us, then that's a good entry!
Rule Eight: This is important. Respect the connection between Forgotten and daemons. You should fully understand this connection before you should proceed to portray it. Made simply, the daemon is part of the soul of the Forgotten, embodying an animal form. It is named after a single word in the excerpt. It is the opposite gender of the Forgotten, and can only speak directly into the mind of its Forgotten child. For more details, research at the main thread. Points WILL be deducted for inaccuracy.

There are moments where we look back and wonder where time went.

Collection of stage pictures reside here, and will hopefully be kept up to date.

CREDITS:

Liz-liz is the original artist, and all of her artwork should not be destroyed in any way. Guardians are allowed to manipulate their child and daemon's artwork for banners and other artistic displays.

These same rules go for the guest artists's artwork.

The Forgotten Documents is an original concept imagined and developed by quietsnooze and Liz-liz. Please do not blatently copy, steal, and what not to it. We have our sources and will find out~.

Daemons are a concept developed by quietsnooze and Liz-liz. See this commentary also for the discussion of daemonology. Fantastic authors who have used similar daemon/familiar concepts include Tamora Pierce, Philip Pullman, Dianne Duane, and C. S. Lewis.

All excerpts are copyright their original authors. If you have serious concerns about their origin and want to spoil our fun by forcing me to having to publicly credit each, well then you're not fun at all. If you do hold serious concerns, I can tell you via PM, but I just hope it never comes to that.
