How to request a donation
(POST 3)


It's required that you read all of the rules before requesting a donation. Once you've done so, take all of the required information from Rule #3 in Rules and Regulations and paste it into your post window, filling in the fields with your own info where required. Then submit your request in the thread.

In the ideal situation where we decide to donate to you, you'll receive a trade from Jellyfish Pirate April labeled 'Jellyfish Pirates!'. Please reply to the trade with

'Heaven or Hell? Let's rock!'

Failure to reply to the trade with 'Heaven or Hell? Let's rock!' will result in us canceling the trade, ashamed and bewildered that you would go to such great lengths to get a donation and forget the most crucial part. You only get one chance for a donation.

This post is to no one in particular...

READ THE RULES, DARN IT!!! ALL OF THEM!!

I've been gnawing a lot of people here for posting donation requests without reading through all the rules (meaning, you did something wrong because Delfire has his ways of telling...as we all do in the crew as well as past recipients).

Delfire is kind enough to donate such a large amount to each recipiant....the least you people can do is read the fuggin rules!!! Delfire doesn't play favorites...but he also won't give you gold if you don't take that extra step to follow directions.

'Why' you may ask...well it's his charity. He's also the cap'n. You guys gotta remember here, you are the ones making a request for help!

In summary...read the rules and just follow them! If you either:
a) get ignored
b) get gnawed domokun
or
c) get made fun of or laughed at

You've shown us all that you didn't do as asked and you therefore get no donation...I'm also pretty darn sure you get no second chance...this is a one shot deal for the most part.

Lastly, I'll be making rounds in here pretty often (mostly in the evenings) so you may see the onslaught of gnawing. I'm going to start being more specific in who gets gnawed (no more general gnawing, now it'll be person directed). I don't like gnawing...people who don't read usually taste like jelly beans..but not the good ones; those nasty Harry Potter ones. So please for the love of your chances of getting a donation, your gnawless-state, and my poor taste buds....

Now, onto the rules (These rules were originally written by Delfire, and were formatted for the new JPF.):

  1. We do background checks on everyone we donate to. (Just like Santa Claus, we know where you've been sleeping!)

  2. We don't donate to everyone. Since we're donating out of the kindness of our hearts, you're not entitled to anything.

  3. When you request a donation, please include your name, who your friends on Gaia are, the date you joined Gaia, and the amount of posts you have when you made the request. Like this, without the extra fields added to throw off people who only read what's required to score a donation:

    Your name is so that we can keep track of whether we've donated to you; therefore, we only need your sceenname, not your real name. We ask for your friends' names so we know you're actively participating on Gaia and aren't just another gold hungry lunatic. We use your post count to protect us from scammers, and the amount of posts you have doesn't always effect eligibility. In the Guilty Gear games, the characters have a variety of weapons, like Johnny's Mist Finer, May's Anchor, Venom's Pool Cue, Faust's scalpel, or Bridgett's Yo-Yo to name a few. Of course, that last sentence has nothing to do with anything and helps fill out this paragraph. In an odd twist of fate, you won't be penalized for listing your favorite jellybean color. Your favorite item means nothing to us, in regards to our decision of whether or not to donate to you, so do not fill out that field. Amount of gold could be the amount of gold in your account or the amount of gold you want, but we actually don't want you to include that field at all either. The point we're trying to make is that the last 2 fields aren't wanted and are used as a filter to test who's read. Don't even include their headings and leave them blank. Just put in the four fields that we actually want you to fill out. This paragraph is loaded with text as a way of showing tough love. It's very common for someone to say that they've read all of the rules and still fill out the form wrong, so please read all of the rules if you want us to consider you. If you've read this far, we like you already. biggrin


Please don't include any of the following in your request:
  • Additional fields other than the ones we've asked for.
  • Your gold count.
  • Messages used to gain sympathy.
    • This includes telling us about the charity you're running. If you have one, we'll find it in our background check. You telling us about it will be taken as a ploy to gain sympathy.
    • Also, don't tell us if you were hacked. While this is a sad thing and we are sorry it happened to you, it doesn't effect us wanting to donate to you.
    • Information about your quest, if you have one.
      • The reason why we ask that you don't tell us about your quest is because it doesn't help us decide whether to donate to you, and more often then not is used to gain sympathy. If you're questing for an item, we'll find out ourselves when we look at your sig or run a background check on you, so please don't bother us with your quest, because we have many donations to carry out and little time. Plus, Captain's not too fond of hearing about quests in here, and you don't want to anger him!


  • The friends you post do not have to be people you know in real life.
    • Most of the time those friends aren't very active on Gaia and that doesn't help you or us. A long list of friends doesn't mean we think more of you.
    • For the sake of our sanity and your donation, do not put more than 5 Gaian friends in your list. People that filled out a form before page 100 shall not be punished for not following this rule.


  • Please post your donation request form in the thread itself.
    • If you PM it to a crew member, you may not get a reply, and you certainly will be ineligible for a donation.


  • Please ask donation related questions in the thread. Don't PM them to crew members!
    • Our crew visits this thread daily so if you'd like to ask a question before submitting your form, please post your question in the thread, and don't private message any crew members with your donation inquiries.


  • No whining.

  • No begging. If you ask for gold or items, this will be treated as begging, and your name will be recorded on the Whiners, Beggers, and Advertisers list. Once on the list, you'll won't be considered for a donation ever.

  • NO ADVERTISING. If your post is an advertisement for a different thread, we will visit your thread and ask politely that you not advertise here again. We don't mind what's in your signature, however, please don't advertise in your posts, and don't tell people to click the link in your signature either, especially if you're filling out a donation request form.

    • Links to quest pages are considered advertising also so don't include them in your post!


  • We will not bump your thread.

  • Please keep in mind that requesting a donation is a lot like sending a letter, which means you won't get a reply right away, or because of the volley of requests that may happen at once, in some cases you may not get a reply.

  • In the case that your request becomes lost, don't make another one, since it only adds to the pile of requests we have to sort through daily, making the possiblity of another request being lost that much greater. Just give us some time to catch up, as we're predicting we'll have quite a bit of pages to sort through.

  • If you've been waiting forever and still haven't received any sort of donation or reply, please just give up; sometimes we ignore requests intentionally, for the sake of not having to go through the reasons why we won't donate to you. We try to make an effort to donate to everyone who we think deserves a donation. Thank you for understanding.

  • You have two weeks to respond to the donation. We understand that you have a real life just like us and that it might be a while before you can get to the trade. Especially if the bank goes down or something else happens. However, we don't want to have sort through a long list of unfinished trades and the gold that is sitting there can be given to others.

The Jellyfish Pirates are good natured sky pirates who live aboard the Mayship, an airship outfitted with guns and a large cargo hold for storing gold.

How have you been able to earn so much gold?
We're pirates. Having gold and getting gold fits the job description.

Why are there so many rules and regulations?
To prevent scamming. As many people as there are out there who'd like to receive a donation, there's that many more people just looking to make a quick buck. These are the people we've been compelled to stomp on every day through our rules and regulations designed to filter through the many requests for gold so we can get to the people who really deserve a donation.

Can I please have some gold?
No, but we'll kindly add you to the beggers list for begging.

I'm not begging.
If you don't want us to pass you off as a begger, just fill out the request form. We treat "asking politely" for gold the same as "begging politely", so do us both a favor and use the request form instead of not using the request form or using the request form and begging. We already know you're looking for gold by coming here, there's no need to reiterate the fact by filling out a request forum and then taking a spot out to beg for gold for X item you need more than everyone else.

Do I get a second chance?
No.

When do I get my gold?
First of all, it's not your gold, and second of all, for being so expectant, never.

I want to be a member of the crew! Will you let me be a member of your crew?
If you're asking, no. But, if you're contributing regularly, aren't getting into arguments, and are generally a good person, we'll consider you. If we like you enough and we really do think that you deserve a place on my crew, Delfire'll ask you himself to join the Jellyfish Pirates.

I read all of the first page and put in the extras anyway. Will you still donate to me?
Since you've wasted our time, no. We put the extra feilds there for a reason, and filling them in is like asking us not to donate to you. That, and it's a bother to have to donate to a smartass, so if you already know we don't want the extra feilds, do us a favor and feed your ego somewhere else. We don't care what the extras are to be blunt, and filling them in so you can feel special only causes frustration. If you really want to feel special, try chatting with the crew, we're friendly and good natured. Just don't get on Amber's bad side.

You already donated to me before but I'm on a new quest. Will you please donate to me again?
If you can afford to go on a new quest that easily then you should consider donating back to the fund. We helped you out in the past, and we won't be able to help others if we continually give gold to the same people every time they're on a new quest, plus Delfire won't tolerate anyone becoming dependent on the Jellyfish Pirate's Fund as a means of a second income. In short, if you're on a new quest, we can't help you. And if Delfire donated to you before, we can't donate to you again.

I have trouble with the English Language because I am not a native speaker. Can I just skip the rules? Who can I turn to for help?
We understand that not everyone on Gaia is American or from the UK where English is the most commonly spoken language. However, we can't let you just skip the rules. Post here that you are having trouble with the rules because of a language barrer and one of our Crew Members will try to help you out as soon as they get to it! 3nodding

    Hi! My name's Delfire. You can call me Delfire. Or Delta Fire. Or maybe even Takayuki. Everyone likes to call me Captain.

    When I first started the Jellyfish Pirate's Fund, I thought I had already experienced everything that Gaia had to offer. Boy was I ever wrong. It wasn't until I was able to undertake the task donating to so many people on a constant basis that I was able to receive a greater sense of awareness for different aspects of Gaia. Some of these aspects include gold, other users, and how opting to being kind even in the most trying situations produced positive results.

    After donating 310,000 gold to 300 different users, I have no regrets. True, while on a constant basis I was working to keep our funds healthy and there were some trying times, the end result was worth it. During the process I feel that I was validating what I had believed all along: that on Gaia, gold is secondary and what matters more are those close to you.

    Why else would I donate so much to so many? While at the beginning in the back of my mind I saw donating as an excuse to get rid of my excess gold, after subsequent donations I was starting to notice that even though I had placed such a low value on gold, there were people on Gaia who would absolutely brighten up at the idea of receiving the gold.

    This made me want to donate more, if not to use gold as a catyclyst that inspires positive change. While not everyone I donated to thanked me, those who did returned to provide support, and in an act that suprised me, continued to unconditionally provide support well throughout the charity. What had started as just another charity turned into something much more. A community, and in my crew, a family that would help me even when discouraged, and inspired me to advance past 100 donations to the grand total of 300.

    This charity exists now because of those people. The pirates, the regulars, the people who came, saw, and requested a donation, who are all a part of the Jellyfish Pirate's Fund. While I've had my fill of donating, I want the Jellyfish Pirate's Fund to continue, if not for myself, then for the people, whose selflessness and desire to help has left me in awe.
