I admit it, I hate managing the shop, I can't keep track of 75 fairies AND draw them all! So I'm looking for a motivated shop manager, preferably an existing owner, but I'm desparate, I'll take anything. Your job will basically be to run every part of the shop I don't want to deal with. The parts I do want to deal with are: the art, the certing, the Ancient/breeding RPs, spell design, the metaplot. But I don't want to have to keep track of anything else, I want someone else to tell me what work needs doing and keep a list of the things that need to be drawn and what needs uploading and updating. You will be doing all this through the Feien mule account. Tabulating of points not included in the job -- that's already taken care of and will not be a part of your duties. I want to be able to just sit back and DRAW and rp. And your job would be to make sure I'm drawing the things that need to be done first. The catch? I'm not offering anything at the moment except gratitude. But hey, at least it isn't a totally thankless job? To apply, uh... post in the thread? I warn you, this is not a part-time job, you have to keep track of everybody at all times, don't offer to take the position if you have a bunch of other shops to take care of or you're not going to be around much. And you will be required to bug me about three times a week. Any takers?

Oh, yes, and I have to be able to trust you to keep conversations confidential. I use conversation to work out what I'm doing and plotting and throw out ideas and explore every possible avenue, including negative ones. I'm the kind of person that has to consider every course of aciton before choosing one. In the past few months people have abused the trust I placed in them by selectively repeating things out of context in such a way as to hurt others, namely, by only mentioning the negative things and portraying me as having reached cruel conclusions I had in fact not reached at all. If you can't keep your mouth shut (and I apologize for putting it so bluntly) DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS JOB.

10/29/04 - Congrats to Sycorax, the auction winner, who chose an Ancient gemstone. The other four Ancient gemstones left over will now be sold, but this sale is a little bit different! This time, the gemstones will be raffled off for free, and you need only pay if you win. Remember, each gemstone costs 20K and 1 QP. An individual feien may only enter one of the four raffles. If you have more than one feien, you may enter once for each. Non-owners may enter once if they wish (but there's not a lot of incentive for non-owners, I'm afraid) The price for a non-owner is 25K. If you own a feien, you can only enter your feien, not yourself. If you already have a gemstone, I politely request you try to restrain yourself, but I'm not making this a rule. Anyone caught trying to buck the system and enter twice will be PERMABANNED and lose ownership of their feien, if any. Raffles will be conducted Tuesday evening (to allow for the upcoming server-clogging Halloween event).
--- For roleplaying purposes, in the event you win a gemstone, your feien will discover it hidden somewhere in the shop. Feel free to roleplay this event!
--- If you don't have the QP because you are a new owner (feien less than 2 months old) you can still enter the raffle. You'll just get a -1 QP modifier -- in other words, you've already spent your first QP.

6/07/04 - This is just a friendly reminder that I do require everyone to post in their diaries at least once a month. As that is all of TWELVE POSTS A YEAR, please make sure you do so. I've had to send out several notices of late, and while these are just warnings, please remember that I will only give you a warning once. The second time you fail to post for a month (and I kindly give you 2-3 days leeway in addition to that) there is no warning and your fairy will die. If you feel once a month is too much to ask, please switch your fairy to Sig-only. Thank you.

7. All feien owners have my permission to edit images of their own feien drawn by me (RikProwley/Em) or edit the images of any feien items they own. If you wish to edit another feien's image, you must ask the owner. Owners may authorize anyone they wish to perform image modifications provided my art is never resold in any way, shape, or form for real money or Gaian gold, and that my art is always displayed WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE FEIEN UNIVERSE. In other words: you can't use my items for anything outside of feien stuff. (Unless you like, asked me and had a reason.)


Shop Roleplay Rules
1. Anyone may come in to roleplay, feien owners and non-owners, provided you follow a few simple rules.
2. We do not use chat-style roleplaying in this shop. We use story-format roleplaying. We type actions in complete sentences and enclose speech in quotation marks.
3. You are expected to abide by the General Roleplay Rules given below.
4. Both owners and non-owners must ask permission before bringing non-feien pets into the shop. In addition, you must have prior permission before using ANY non-feien magic in the shop.
5. The following pets are always welcome: Pixapets.
6. The following pets are forbidden: Faekats and all other Meeki-deritive pets (due to an ancient altercation with Meeki which I would prefer not to dredge up again).
7. There are certain minor magics which are permissable, including: minor healing abilities/spells, minor telekinesis, empathy (if you don't know the difference between empathy and telepathy, do not use either), small light spells.
8. The following non-feien magics are absolutely forbidden without prior consent: invisibility, stealth spells, energy blasts, mental attacks, telepathy, kill spells, blinding spells, combat spells in general, teleportation.
9. Please keep the roleplay centered on feien-related events and subjects. This doesn't mean you have to talk about feien 24/7 if you don't have one, but you should be coming in here to try and interact with feien and feien owners. If none are around, that's fine, but please don't make this shop your hangour or something. It's not that you're not welcome, it's just that pages and pages of non-feien roleplay distract (and detract) from the feien roleplay. So please keep it in moderation!
10. Roleplay in the shop is real-time only. You cannot RP in the shop and then backdate or antedate it. If you get signed off in the middle of a roleplay, sorry, but you missed it and them's the breaks. It really doesnt make sense to continue a roleplay started two days earlier and try to pretend it's the same day. If you want to continue the roleplay, you may do so privately.
11. This thread is ONLY for roleplaying IN the shop. The applicable areas are all those described in the shop description below. They include the roof and the back alley with the portal. That's it. (Of course, you're welcome to include a bit of the street in front of the shop, but no roleplaying in here and making the setting over in Durem or anything like that.)


General Roleplay Rules
1. IC/OOC: Recognize that a difference exists. What people do in-character should not reflect any out of character sentiments. Furthermore, you shouldn't hold character actions against the player. It is perfectly fine if, because of OOC situations, you wish to not roleplay with someone, but do not roleplay your feien being angry at another feien because you are OOCly mad at the player. Keep OOC fights OOC, and IC fights IC. Particularly the second part. Not everyone plays a nice, flowery character.
2. No godmoding. This means not only should you not come in, go "MY CAHRACTR IS A LVL 999 SUPR SAYIAN I KILL U ALL!!!!11" but you also should never roleplay another character's actions unless you've planned it with the other player. For example: if your character punches another character, you only roleplay the punch -- the OTHER player decides if the punch lands, how much damage it does to their character, etc. If, however, you asked the other player beforehand and they agreed to the punch, you could roleplay both the act of punching and the reaction of being punched. While you SHOULD try to keep in mind stats, which stats a character uses are up to the player who controls the character. For example, if you roleplayed a punching action, I could choose to dodge using Dexterity, Speed, and/or Luck, or to have the punch do little damage based on Endurance and/or Wisdom (knowing how to minimize damage from combat). Stats are very versatile in this regard.
3. Character death is controlled by the character's player. You are free at any point in time to voluntarily kill off your feien as part of roleplaying. You may not, however, kill another feien unless the owner has given you permission. Obviously, you must inform the shop before killing your feien.
4. Don't try to engineer a reaction from another player or character. Never, ever play the game of "I bet if I do this, the other character will do THIS." You do not control the other character's reaction. You cannot plan on another character doing anything and you shouldn't try. Never, ever go into RPs with preconceptions of this nature. Just start roleplaying and see what develops.
5. Don't try to force roleplay. This goes hand in hand with #4. As great and fun as it is to make long-term plans, when roleplay is done right, unexpected things happen. You just have to learn to adjust and adapt and create new plans. When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. The same goes for roleplaying. You may want your character to eventually hook up with another character, and the other player feels the same, but somehow or other, things might end up differently. Don't get mad or upset. Just find another avenue of attack!

The Shop

Nestled among the streets of Barton Town is a small shop with a deceptively simple sign hanging by the door: "Feien Fairies." The timber-frame building is small and rustic, like most Barton structures, but deceptively so. The faded yellow walls are actually two planes of a synthetic reinforced veneer with a bit of stucco thrown on top. Occasionally, someone manages to get between the walls, which are mostly hollow inside.

The majority of the shop is empty. Several cheap plastic chairs are stacked up in the corner near the window. There's a glass counter with a cash register in front of the far wall. Behind the counter is a door leading to the office and a number of shelves, most empty, but some with small piles of insignificant trinkets. Behind the counter the shelves turn into a series of drawers, locked, inside which additional items are stored. On the opposite side of the office door is the door leading to the bathroom. While small and fairly dark, the bathroom is clean. A first aid kit can be found behind the mirrored cabinet over the sink.

On the wall next to the counter is a notice board. Here are posted a variety of messages, many of them in handwriting almost too tiny to make out, including such things as "Shop Rules," "Genetics," and "Magic Teacher Wanted" notices. Clearly the board is for public use. There is a long scroll trailing nearly to the floor with the title "Spellbook." Another scroll includes instructions on how to reach the management. These instructions are as follows:

Go out the front door, turn to the right, and follow the edge of the building until you hit the alley. Enter the alley and walk to the rear of the building. In the small clearing are four white stones, next to the sign that says "Portal (for emergencies only)." Step into the area marked by the stones.

Feien wishing to enhance their powers or embark upon quests may speak to Julius. He can be found in the vicinity of Em's house. See the emergency portal around the back. Ring the bell on the porch.

Aside from the front door, entry to the shop can be had through the large window next to the door or the smaller round ventilation window around the side near the roof. There is a dirty window around the back which leads into the office, but it has been locked to prevent entry.

Around the back of the shop is a small courtyard with a barely used trash can and the four stones marking the portal's location. It's rather dank back there. The roof of the shop appears to be some sort of hammered metal plates nailed together. The uneven, warped plates are dull and smooth, worn by the weather.



The Story
Quote:
There exist in this world magical creatures, born from flowers, with strange and wondrous ways. These beings are the mythical feien, or fairies. Miniature winged folk who live but a few years, they bring to their owners luck and happiness.

But the feien are in decline. Magic has all but disappeared from the world, and to survive, the fairies must bond their souls to those of humans.

Long a friend of the fairies, I was visited by the great and wise fairy Juli. He was a leader among his kind, one of the last fairies alive without a human bond, but his thoughts were troubled. Without help, the fairies would soon disappear. He needed someone to help him find special humans to ensure the survival of their race. He asked me.

Of course I agreed. A world without fairies would be too sad. Juli handed to me a single blossom, a black lily, and instructed me to care for it, telling me that this fairy was very special.

With only those instructions to go by, I put the flower in a vase of water and set it in the sun, but the bloom wilted slightly. Apparently this flower didn't like the sun. When I moved it to a cool, shady place it returned to its original luster. I watched it for several days, barely able to keep my eyes off it. Then, around dusk of the sixth day, the flower began to glow with a dark energy. It trembled and shook in its vase, as if straining to do something. Amazed, I watched it closely, and less than a minute later a little black ball spilled out of this tiny maelstrom of energy and into my waiting hand.

Ever so slowly, the tiny black ball unfurled its wings and stood. It was a fairy! He, for it seemed to be male in form, stood a mere four inches, with black wings resembling a hummingbird's attached to his back. His pale skin was covered in tiny black markings and his little dark eyes glinted in the faint light. "My name is Corvus," he said simply, looking at me.

"I'm Emperial," I replied. His little face looked at me incredulously.

"Emperial? What sort of a name is that?" he demanded.

And so I met Corvus, who quickly revealed himself as a smart-mouthed, grumpy sort of fellow with a vicious and sarcastic sense of humor. It was love at first insult. Corvus quickly explained to me that he was a summoner fairy, a very special type. His magic enabled fairy plants to bloom, resulting in the births of new fairies, but he was still a new fairy and would need some time to develop his full powers and completely bond to me.

For two weeks we talked, watched TV, and got to know one another. Then, during an episode of MASH, Corvus announced it was time. His body was enveloped in the same black energy that had surrounded his flower at his birth, and then he shot up in height to a full six and a half inches, now a fully-grown fairy.

Not more than a day later, Juli returned with another gift. He presented Corvus and I with a fairy plant already sporting five blossoms. Now, we had to find five humans to raise them...



What Are They?

The Feien are fairies, plain and simple. They have long lived in this world secretly, hiding from the onslaught of industry and development to the point where few now remember them. If they are ever to return, they need our help!

General Info: All feien are unique. No two are alike! Each has a different marking style, hair style, and adult image. Though they appear male or female, they are in actuality genderless. There's no real limit on how many Feien you can own, but be warned! If you have too many and neglect one, it might grow weak, or even die! They need human energy to survive, and if you have too many, their lives may be in danger!

They're all as intelligent as any humans (moreso if you ask me), capable of speaking the languages of their owners and their own fairy tongue from birth. (This is partially due to the bonding process.) While too small to perform great physical tasks, they all possess magic and are capable of helping you tend to other pets or doing small chores around the household. Some fairies are more powerful than others and can cast defense or attack spells.

Warning! Don't let your little feien near large predatory pets! Feien can (and probably will) die if they are chewed up or eaten! If a pet attacks them, they will defend using any spells in their arsenal, and can wound or kill other pets. Either way, please make sure any pets you own won't hurt your feien.

Feien have several stages of life, as follows:

Blossom: Unique Stage! All fairies are born from flowers with the aid of a summoner fairy. These blossoms are infused with a fairy?s magic and resemble the fairy that will emerge. Fairy blossoms can be snipped from the plant and sold or traded. Fairies emerge from their blossoms after 4 - 10 days.
About Blossoms: There are a few things you can tell by looking at a blossom. First, the fairy's color. The most dominant color of the flower is the fairy's elemental color. Hair or eye colors may also appear. Sometimes you can tell what the fairy's wings will look like, or get a glimmer of their personality. Fairy blossoms don't require any care-- you don't need to put them in a vase or anything-- but some will prefer sunny places, some prefer dark places, some will want water. If you can figure out what your blossom prefers, it might benefit your unborn fairy!

Juvenile: This young fairy has emerged from its bloom and started the bonding process. It can be traded, but doing so will stunt its growth into adulthood. Its genetic traits are starting to show and it has a personality. Juveniles range from 3" to 5" in height. After 2 - 3 weeks with a single human, it will evolve into its adult form.
About Juveniles: All fairies are born with full knowledge of speech and personalities. They all have the same base image, but each one has unique markings and hair. You'll get a pretty good idea of what your adult fairy will look like from its juvenile form. You'll also get your fairy's first stats, which increase or decrease as a fairy ages, depending on how your roleplay. Please be careful with your juvenile fairy, as they are just learning to fly.

Adult: Unique Stage! This fairy has grown up and can now breed. All visible genes have made themselves known. An adult fairy cannot be sold or traded, as fairies bond to their masters for life. A fully-grown fairy stands anywhere from four to nine inches in height. Fairies live for three to seven years (barring accidents or abuse!), after which they turn into gemstones.
About Adults: Every adult fairy has an unique image. They have the same hair and markings as their juvenile forms, but differ in a variety of other ways. Depending on how/if you roleplayed with the fairy as a juvenile, the adult form may have additional bonuses. All adult fairies (barring mutations) can fly, usually by a combination of their wings and magic.

Enhanced: Unique Stage! By merging with a gemstone, a fairy can take on new traits and powers.
About Enhanced Feien: Enhanced feien cannot breed. They gain new powers, their appearance changes, and sometimes personalities change as well. The effects depend on the gemstone. All Enhanced images are unique.

Gemstone: When a fairy dies, its returns its energy to the universe, leaving behind a beautiful magical gemstone. This gemstone can be set into jewelry for the owner to wear, protecting him or her with the love of their fairy, or given to another fairy, changing that fairy.
About Gemstones: Living fairies can merge with gemstones with undetermined results, or you can keep your fairy's gemstone. If a fairy died due to neglect, the gemstone reverts to the store, where it will be sold. In other words, if you want to keep your fairy's gemstone, roleplay with it and treat it well! Sig-only gemstones always revert to the store. Gemstones can be reincarnated. Every once in a while, there may be an auction for a gemstone resurrection in lieu of a rare element. If you own a gemstone, you may request that it be used if you win the auction. If you do not own a gemstone, you will be allowed to choose one from a small selection.

Immortal: There is a great forbidden magic which can allow fairies to live forever... but at a price. Immortal fairies cannot breed and suffer mutations from embracing this unnatural process. This magic can be found by a truly determined feien and bond, but for a price...


Roleplaying
If you just want your fairy to stick around in your sig looking pretty, there's no need to roleplay. If you want to breed your fairy or cause mutations or try to find the secret to immortality, you'll have to roleplay. Roleplaying fairies gives fairies lots of advantages, like increased stats and special abilities. You have to put effort into it, though, or bad things can happen...

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT ROLEPLAY WITH SIG-ONLY BLOOMS. That would be why they're called "Sig-only" and "Non-RP" feien. Hopefully this clear up any confusion.


Trading, Selling, and Auctioning:
Fairies may only be traded or sold in their blossom or juvenile form. Once they are adults, they bond with their human permanently and will not leave until they die. You may trade or sell your blossom or juvenile feien at your discretion, but you MUST inform the shop. Fairies will not emerge from blossoms or bond to unauthorized persons! Trading or selling a juvenile fairy will stunt its growth. Feien must spend 2 - 3 weeks with a single owner in order to mature.


A Little History
Feien are based on the fairies from my old online comic, There Be Elves, with the notable exception that these fairies can breed. I came up with the term "feien" because I didn't want to use fairy -- too generic -- and I didn't want a word too close to Anya!'s Fa'e Children. So, after some dicitonary scrounging, I found a word, "fay," which means to join or fit closely together. It comes from the Middle English "feien." Since it's similar to "fae/fairy" and since these fairies are bonding with owners, I thought it made the perfect word choice!

Fairies can be custom-summoned for you for the starting price of 9000g. It takes a lot more effort to summon up a fairy with specific attributes!

Rare Attribute: If you would like to introduce a rare attribute (see list below), it costs 2000g per rare attribute. You can have a max of three rare attributes per custom fairy. Rare attributes include colors not listed, feathery wings, and numerous other things. (I don't want to say too much!) There's a small list of rare attributes below the form. For more, PM me!

Mutation: For 1000g more, you can add a rare mutation to your fairy! Be warned! It's random, and there's a small chance (1/25) it'll result in infertility. You can have up to three mutations, and it may screw up part of your customization. For example, if you wanted striped markings and the mutation landed on marking type, you won't get striped markings... Also be warned that if you wanted a rare attribute and the mutation landed on that gene, you might not get the rare attribute! Combine mutations and rare attributes at your own risk! For more info on mutations, see Genetic Research.

The difference? Rare attibutes are introduced genes that are otherwise only available randomly, where mutations are new genes.

Known Rare Attributes
Horns: Small Unicorn, Small Single Horn
Elements: Life, Heart, Sky, Metal, Shadow
Hands & Feet: Claws, Webbed
New Colors: Mix any two listed colors. If blue and red are listed, you can make purple. Yellow and blue makes green. I cannot, however, give you a reddish purple, because that would mean mixing red and purple, and purple is not on the original list.
Dual Colors: Any two existing colors can be combined for a two-color effect. If red, blue, yellow, white, and black are listed, you can choose red and white, yellow and blue, etc., but you may not choose any color not listed, e.g. purple, green, orange.
Other rare attributes are available! But they're secret, so you have to ask specifically when ordering, and have an idea of what sort of rare attribute you might like...

Rares and Commons
To have an attribute go from rare to common, at least four fairies must possess the attribute. When you order a custom, you are paying to not only have a fairy which matches your specifications (versus being random) but also for the privilege of having an attribute before it becomes common, if it ever does. There's also a state for attributes known as overcommon -- if too many fairies have something, it will cost 3K to get that attribute. You have been warned. Overcommon is generally defined as occuring more than five times more than the least common common. So if one fairy has red hair and six have black, black becomes overcommon. Dual colors count twice, once for each color.

Feien require the help of a summoner fairy to breed. Using magic, the summoner fairy joins the essences of the two breeding fairies with a plant, resulting in 1-5 fairy blooms. Fairies look male and female but are actually genderless, meaning you can breed any two fairies so long as there is love present. If the fairies do not get along, breeding will not work! Love doesn't mean just true love. Fairies who are very good friends can breed as well. Feien may breed a maximum of once a month.

Be warned... the process of summoning has been known to alter fairies!

Breeding Options
You may keep up to 3 blooms from your feien breeding. The first two cost 6k apiece and the third 5k. By keep, I mean you may decide to whom they should go, trade them for other pets, etc. You may also decide to give all the blooms to the shop; breeding will then cost you nothing. 6k guarantees you one bloom. 12k guarantees you one bloom, and in the event the breeding produces more than one bloom, will give you a second. 17k guarantees you two blooms, and in the event the breeding produces more than two, gives you a third. All participants in the breeding must agree on what is being paid, who is paying, and to whom the blooms will be delivered.

Selling/Auctioning/Trading Offspring Blooms:
You may give your offspring blooms to anyone you like or trade them for other pets. You may not re-sell or auction them - selling and auctioning is reserved for the shop. You could also raffle off a bloom or hold a contest in which it is a prize, provided you do not charge entrants. If you are found to be exchanging money, you may be subject to severe penalties, including having your feien taken away.

Why? Because the feien are fairly popular, and the person doing the work is me. Given what feien fetch in auction, the flat sale and breeding prices are comparatively low. Somehow, it doesn't seem fair to me for somebody else to be reaping a profit off my work, unless that person hapens to be me.

Trading your feien bloom is free if trading for any pet worth 7K or less. If the pet you are trading for is worth more, there may be a small trading fee, up to 50% of the value difference.


Bloom Preservation:
If, for some reason, a bloom needs to be prevented from blooming, special stasis magic can be used to stunt its growth. This gives more time for auctioning or trading, or can just be used so a fairy blooms on a certain day. This is a completely free service. Once removed, the bloom will quickly blossom into a juvenile fairy.


Summoner Fairies
Summoner fairies are the basis of fairy creation and procreation. In the future, a new summoner fairy may appear if someone shows up who wants to create new feien or do breeding. This requires artistic skill, since you'll need to be creating unique images for the adult feien. If you have any interest in doing this, please contact me privately.

Fairies, though they do not reproduce sexually, possess genetic codes. There are 26 genetic markers determining every detail of their appearance. A fairy's genetic code is a SECRET that can only be revealed by careful testing. Testing is recommended before breeding, as there may be genetic factors that affect how many blossoms result.

Genetic Testing: 2000g
Your fairy's genetic code will be revealed to you. Any factors affecting blooming will be noted. You may choose to reveal your code to others or keep it secret. Of course, the code is just a string of letters and numbers. In order to unravel it's meaning, extensive research is required.

Genetic Research: 16000/20000g acquired
Research is very costly. At present, 9/26 markers have been revealed. In order to reveal new markers, surveys of fairies must be taken. 1000g of every Genetic Test and 2000g from each attempted breeding goes towards research. You can also donate to research to speed up the process. (Small note: the price does not continually increase; some genes simply cost more to unravel than others due to complexity.)

About Genes:
There are three types of gene.
Primary: an appearance gene that shows up in juvenile form
Secondary: an appearance gene that shows up in adult form
Tertiary: a gene that influences a statistic or is otherwise invisible

Mutations:
Every so often, certain genes may mutate into new forms. These can be as simple as a new set of color genes to something much, much bigger... Mutations can occur when ordering a custom with the mutation option or as a natural result of breeding. Sometimes they just occur randomly.

Revealed Markers:
  • A - (Primary) This first letter indicates a fairy's gender appearance. AA is female and Aa is male. This is the only gene which is independent of the parents, as it is determined randomly. Mutations on this gene cause further mutations, but often with disastrous results.
  • B - (Tertiary) This gene determines a fairy's magical power. BB indicates strong magic, and gives +1 blooms when breeding (not cumulative). Bb is average magical ability, and bb is weak magic ability, which gives -1 blooms when breeding (again, not cumulative). Breeding a BB with a bb cancels out the modifiers. This gene cannot naturally mutate, but will mutate due to inbreeding or overbreeding. It also has a special double mutation form which results in summoner fairies, who are exceptional magically but cannot reproduce at all. The B gene also controls life expectancy. The stronger the natural magic, the shorter the lifespan. Furthermore, even weak fairies may earn a magic stat of 10 through dedicated roleplaying.
  • C# - (Primary) This marker determines the prellan (fairy marking/elemental) color. The following colors are on record: C1=blue, C2=red, C3=yellow, C4=black, C5=white. If two different recessive colors are combined, the fairy ends up with dual-tone coloration. If two different dominant genes are combined, the result is a new color. Mutations on this gene cannot occur randomly.
  • D# - (Primary) This gene determines a fairy's skin tone. Mutations can occur on this gene, but are presently unknown. Known genomes: D1=pale, D2=medium, D3=tan, D4=oriental, D6=medium brown
  • E - (Primary/Secondary) This gene determines ear length and style. Currently, EE=long, Ee=medium/average and ee=short. EE and Ee appear similar in juvenile form, but ee is recognizable, therefore this gene is part primary, part secondary. Mutations can occur on this gene but are presently unknown.
  • F - (Secondary) This gene affects a feien's fingers and toes. All feien in juvenile form appear to have normal digits, but when they hit adult stage, they may be revealed as having claws or webbed fingers and toes. Mutations can occur on this gene but are presently unknown. Known genomes: F=normal, f1=webbed, f2=claws
  • G - (Primary) This gene determined the type of prellan. Mutations can occur on this gene but are presently unknown. Known genomes: GG=squared, Gg=stripe, gg=round.
  • H - (Primary) This gene determines a fairy's hair color. A combination of dominant genes will result in a new color, and a combination of recessive genes will result in dual colors. Mutations can occur on this gene but are presently unknown. Known genomes: H1=blue, H2=red, H3=yellow, H4=green, H5=black, H6=white.
  • I - (Secondary) This gene determines a fairy's eye shape and number. Mutations can occur on this gene and include three eyes. Known genomes: II=round, Ii=oval, ii=narrow, I1=oval 3rd eye.
  • J - (Primary) This gene governs the texture of a feien's hair. Known genomes: JJ=curly, Jj=wavy, jj=straight.

Diary Basics
In order to roleplay with your feien, you will require a diary in which to record events and keep track of stats and abilities. Your diary will be created for you in the guild. Only guild members may post in the guild; if you have a friend you would like to involve in your feien diary, simply have him or her submit a request to join the guild detailing why.

The Official Post
The first post of your diary is your Official Post, or OP, which provides all of the information about your fairy. At the top of your OP is a link back to the main thread. Below this are the Updates. Changes in your fairy's stats, age, and abilities are reflected here.

After this is your official feien image. It shows a graphical representation of your feien, the name of your feien, the element, the Date of Birth (DOB), the developmental stage, and your Gaia username. You may direct-link this image in your sig or on your website to observe your feien's growth.

<img align="left" src="http://www.drowtales.com/galleries/f/heights.thumb.gif">After this are your feien's stats, beginning with height. The height chart to the left can help you envision how big your feien is in relation to other feien and in relation to yourself. Simply grab a rule and use your favorite graphics program to adjust the image so the stated heights are accurate.

Arguably the most important area of the stats is the personality. This is your "base personality" and defines the major characteristics of your feien. The base personality is not a rulebook on how to play your feien. It is merely a starting point upon which you can build your own character.

Why? Because unfortunately, it has been my experience that most folk roleplay the same character archetypes, so in order to ensure a varied cast of characters, the base personality is required. It helps keep characters more consistent, though most characters soon grow and expand beyond this base personality, and keeps up from having three dozen brooding heros, twenty exuberant airheads, and four hundred Mary Sues. But again, the base personality is merely a starting point. It gives you a cornerstone on which to build. You could have "egotistical, driven, bibliophile, superstitious" as your base personality. This does not mean your fairy cannot have an obsession with turtles, or enjoy charity work, or be a compulsive neat freak. You could do any of these things with the character, just so long as s/he is still an egotistical, driven, superstitious bibliophile at the same time.

In other words, base personality traits do not exclude personality traits not included in the base. Unless you attempt to play your feien diametrically opposite the base personality -- it would not be wise to portray your supresitious, driven, egotistical bibliophile as giving up after only one try because a driven character does not give up. Similarly, a cheerful, bubbly little feien probably shouldn't walk into the shop and throw curse words around and threaten to drop rocks on people. There can always be mitigating circumstances, but you'll have to convince me of that, and anyway, people usually bounce back to their basic personality after the situation has resolved itself. (Recent research in the area of psychology supports this.)

Moving along, next we have the Stats. Stats rate your feien in nine different categories and allow you to unlock special skills and abilities. Stats are detailed further in the next post.

Spells/Abilities lists the various skills your feien qualifies for and those your feien currently knows. All feien begin their lives with one to three abilities: usually flight and one free skill based on their element. (Feien with dual elements will have two free elemental skills.) These are free skills. Free skills are listed in green. You do not need to roleplay to unlock them.

Stat-based skills are listed in blue. These are abilities that depend on a particular stat, for example, a feien with a STR (Strength) of 8 has the skill Giant Strength. Stat-based skills must be roleplayed to unlock, but are automatic. If you feien has a STR of 8, s/he will learn Giant Strength, provided you roleplay enough to unlock it. (More on unlocking skills below.)

Elemental skills are in black. These are skills which depend on your feien's MAG (Magic) score. Every element has a set of skills associated with it. If your feien possesses that element, s/he can learn the skill, but to do so uses up one magic point. Your total number of magic points is given at the top of the Spells/Abilities section and is equal to your feien's MAG. Unlike Stat-based skills, elemental skills must be picked out by you. You may choose as many elemental spells as you have magic points.

School skills are in brown. There are several schools of magic in the feien universe, giving you even more spells and abilities to unlock. You may only choose one school and you may not change it. The school skills are set for each school and can only be unlocked in order. Further details on school skills are given below.

Artificial skills are in olive. An artificial skill is any skill which a feien does not actually possess on his or her own. They are usually acquired by means of artifacts which grant the user additional spells. As such they are free skills, requiring no roleplaying to unlock, but if you lose the item or do not have it with you, the abilities granted by the item are not accessible.

This covers all of the information in the OP.

Diary Set-Up and Modifications
When beginning your diary, it is recommended that you reserve a few posts for the purpose of creating a more detailed feien profile. For examples of how to do this, browse around and look at the existing diaries. If you see something someone has done which you like, ask them if you may use it, be it formatting, layout, or profile setup.

You don't have to reserve posts for a profile or add graphics to your diary, but it does make it looks nice and helps keep things organized. If you make diary graphics and wish to have a title banner added to your OP or simply want your diary's title changed, post a note to the Spell & Stat Update Request thread and it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

In addition to being pretty, an extended profile can help you get a better grasp on your character and his or her abilities, particularly as they relate to roleplaying, and adding profiles on other characters your feien lives with greatly aids anyone reading your diary or roleplaying with you. It really is strongly recommended.

Starting Off: The Feien Bloom
Well, so you've paid for your feien, now you have this lovely, one-of-a-kind flower. What do you with it?

If you choose to do nothing, your feien will emerge happy as can be. If, however, you'd like to get to know your feien better as a flower, you can try to find out what the flower likes!

Variables: light, darkness, heat, cold, room temp, water, no water, dirt, no dirt, more...?

If you'd like results to go with your experiments, you'll have to IM me. You are responsible for both roleplaying performing the experiment and roleplaying the experiment results. I hold you to the honor system - if you IM me an action and it has a negative effect, I expect you to stick with it!

For experimenting, your feien may have bonuses when it hits juvenile stage... or there may be downsides...

Please note! Fairy blossoms subsist on elements. They do not need to eat! They don't even have mouths. sweatdrop


Part Two: the Juvenile Stage
Your young fairy has just emerged into the world. S/he may be confused or disoriented at first, but thanks to your caring during the bloom stage, the fairy will already have a spiritual anchor: you!

Your juvenile fairy has full speech and reading capabilities and a personality. You are given a base personality, three to six words that describe your fairy, which you may build upon at your leisure. You can write up a longer personality description at this point if you like.

At this point, you get to see what your fairy looks like! Things like markings and colors will be visible, but your fairy's growth is not complete and some traits don't appear until the adult stage, so please note that there may yet be a few surprises in store for you!

A juvenile fairy will still be able to subsist on elements, but will probably start wanting some tidbits of actual food. Just a bite or two from your dinner will be fine. You might discover they have favorite foods or music or anything... at this stage, their preferences and actions are up to you! They have become your character to play with. You're still expected to hold to the base personality, though, and anything too out of character might be penalized. (Like if you got a shy fairy and roleplayed him as the loudmouthed life of the party.) Personality development is, of course, allowed, over time. (People change over time, and likewise do fairies.)

You can basically consider your juvenile fairy to be your own character at this point. You can also start buying items. Buying items and then roleplaying with them can change your fairy's stats or adult appearance. Please note that any appearance changes due to items will not appear until adult stage!

A juvenile fairy will also begin to uncover its magical abilities, a process that continues into adulthood. All fairies start off with the appropriate 0-level spells, as listed in the spellbook. Roleplaying unlocks more spells. To unlock spells, you don't have to roleplay your fairy researching new spells (though you can): the spells will unlock over time with roleplaying of any sort.

Please note that since abilities and spells are rewarded based on your fairy's experience, non-feien stories (however wonderful) will not add to your feien's skill development.


All Grown Up: the Adult Stage
Congratulations, your fairy is an adult! At this point, a fairy has a totally unique image. All visible genetic traits appear. If you roleplayed any items on during juvenile stage, they will appear on the adult fairy. If not, your fairy will have its default image.

At this point, fairies require food. They can no longer subsist on elements.

Adult fairies may breed with other adults of any gender (remember, gender is only apparent, not actual). In order to do so, they must have a close bond with with other fairy. This can be romantic love or simply a love between friends. The desire for two fairies to breed must be roleplayed in order for me to give permission. It can't just be one fairy walks up to the other and says, "Let's unf!" Breeding is not to be taken lightly. (Especially given the price tag.)

Concerning adult images, you can request an image update once every two months. This will remove any items your fairy is no longer using and add new items s/he may have acquired. The first four image changes are free. That's enough for eight months if you change every two months. After that, there will be a fee, as yet undetermined. (It won't be excessive.)

Feien Sex? - No, sorry, they don't have the necessary bits for anything besides snogging. Their erogenous zones are where the ears meet the skull, where the wings meet the back, the mouth and the back of the knee.

Quests and Special Items? - Your adult feien may receive a quest or a special item. These are rewards for good roleplaying. There are a number of ways to complete quests, and we can discuss which is the right one for you and your fairy when the time comes. You might get a quest to complete items, write a story, complete a task, etc. Quests can yield special items or stat increases. And, of course, there's the ultimate quest for immortality...

Feien Death? - Yes, your feien can die, either in an accident or due to old age. It takes a long time. Your feien may die prematurely if you have an RP feien and you neglect it. What constitutes neglect? Not posting in your diary for two one-month periods will cause energy starvation. (Bad way to go.) Feien can also die by being eaten, crushed, impaled, severed, or even by suicide. Don't worry too much about this -- I won't run around looking for chances to kill your fairy. If, however, you commit some sort of crime (like art theft) or misbehave extremely and are banned from Gaia, you might very well have your feien killed and the resulting gemstone repossessed by the shop. But we're all nice folk here, so no need to worry!

Help! My feien is losing points like mad! There are a few reasons this may be happening. The most common is roleplaying against your feien's personality. If your roleplaying doesn't seem to reflect the set personality traits, watch the points drop a lot. The second reason is lack of roleplaying a stat. Regardless of personality traits, if your feien has high wisdom and acts foolish or immature, their wisdom will decrease until it's at the level you're playing at. If you have the high stat, use it or lose it! Usually, though, you'll find the stat is replaced by points somewhere else... The third reason is lack of interaction. If I don't see you around the thread much, your feien's stats will drop, generally in charisma or luck. Just dropping by once won't be enough to raise the stat back; either involve yourself more often or accept the loss or switch to Sig-only. Finally, the fourth and last reason is godmoding or other roleplaying gaffes. If your feien does something that's impossible or too powerful for the feien, stats will drop. If you suddenly pull a wacky stunt like afflicting your feien with a wasting disease, stats will drop.

But I'd like to do such-and-such with my feien! Wonderful! PM me and tell me what such-and-such is. If it's a good plot idea, I'll give it a go-ahead. If it's not, well, back to the drawing board!

I do a lot a roleplaying, but my stats don't increase much? Feel free to tell me, and point me in the right direction. I do miss things. Also consider that you might want to select a few spells for your feien to learn. I generally award stat points for specific roleplaying actions, like practicing some skill. Spells and abilities, however, can be awarded in a number of situations, even for just regular posting, and are much easier to get.

I'm going to be gone a while, but I don't want my feien switched to Sig-only! Tell me. I can always help you if you tell me. I'm willing to put your feien on hiatus, effectively freezing him/her until your return. I will not put your feien on indefinite hiatus longer than two months, though, and I will not extend a hiatus more than three weeks longer than your initial request. (Furthermore, requesting hiatuses for periods longer than three months may very well result in my asking you to switch to Sig-only instead.)

Every fairy, both sig and roleplaying, has a set of stats. They are all on a scale of one to ten. These stats are as follows:

STR - Strength - brute force
DEX - Dexterity - reaction time, fine physical control
STA - Stamina - endurance, constitution
WIS - Wisdom - depth of thought, patience
INT - Intelligence - quickness of thought
CHA - Charisma - charm, people skills
SPD - Speed - movement throught space; flying or running
LCK - Luck - tendency for good or bad things to happen

All stats are rated on a scale of 1 - 10. You can increase or decrease stats depending on how you roleplay. (More details below!)

Though they are generally ferred to as "spells," a numberof these are actually more like enhanced innate abilities and don't require any sort of actual "casting" to perform.

Fairy spells are classified by element. Your fairy's element and magical power determine what spells s/he may cast. Some spells are independent of element or magic ability and rely on other attributes.

Choosing Spells
You can choose one spell per point of magic ability, with an extra point if your magic ability is 8 and two extra points for 10. Each spell has a level number, corresponding to the number your fairy must have in magic ability to cast the spell. Spells with 0 are free and do not count towards spell total. So, a fairy with a magic level of 3 can pick three spells level three or under from his/her element selection or the non-element list.

Though you get to pick your spells freely and at your leisure, spells are only awarded with roleplaying. Any unavailable spells you've picked will show up in a fairy's spell list in parentheses. Try to pick spells that actually work with your fairy and do good roleplaying to unlock your spells. (You don't have to roleplay your fairy learning the spell, just roleplay normally and the spell will eventually be yours.) Please post your spell request lists on the thread or PM them to me.

For stat-based spells, the level is the stat value required. Stat-based spells do not require a point of magical ability to learn. They are totally independent of magic ability. (They still require roleplaying to unlock.)

Practice and study of spells might have benefits...

Known Spell Types: Non-Elemental, Earth, Air, Water, Light, Darkness, Heat, Cold, Sky, Heart, Metal, Time, Ice, Life, Lightning, Shadow, Stat-Based

Elements listed in parenthesis are those which a fairy of the element can pick with Panelemental. So, "Earth (Darkness, Heat, Metal)" means nd Earth fairy with Panelemental can also learn spells from the Darkness, Heat, and Metal elements, but at a cost. See the Panelemental Skill (under Stat-based) for more information.

Non-Elemental Spells
These are general spells that any fairy can cast regardless of their element. These spells are based on magical ability.

Quote:
0: Flight - Perform aerial acrobatics regardless of wing size! This spell allows fairies to propel themselves through the air at will. Can only be cast on self.
1: Magic Detection - Sense nearby magical objects or creatures.
2: Minor Healing - Cause cuts and bruises to heal faster.
2: Cure - Cures poisons and infections.
3: Levitation - Gently levitate self or others with this handy little spell. Uses MAG instead of STR for lifting, length of lifting dependent on STA. Moves objects slowly and surely. Not combat-useful, as can be easily escaped.
4: Enhanced Bond - Fairy is especially attuned to their owner's thoughts and feelings.
5: Magic Hand - Lift small objects or strike foe from afar with this invisible hand. Magic hands have a strength of 5 and dexterity equal to their caster's.
5: Heal - Heal cuts and bruises on the spot, and improve the condition of more serious wounds, speeding up the healing process.
6: Mark Object - Place a magical rune on an object marking its ownership. The fairy who placed the marker will always be able to find the object.
7: Free Bonding - Fairy can bond with up to three other fairies, pets, or individuals. Note that these bonds are permanent, and are not Enhanced.
7: Shield - An invisible barrier orb, up to twelve inches in diameter, surrounds the target. Can be cast on self or others.
8: Growth - Fairy increases 50% in size for a brief amount of time, about two minutes. (Increases with practice.)
9: Teleport - A short-distance teleportation spell. Move self or object up to ten feet instantaneously. With practice, destination can be controlled.
10: Mimic Spell - (Requires Magic Detection) By watching another feien perform a spell, the spell can be duplicated within 30 seconds of the original casting. The feien trying to mimic must have Magic Detection and have been actively paying attention to the spell. The mimic spell's effects will be up to half as strong as the original spell.


Earth Spells (Darkness, Heat)

Quote:
0: Stoneskin - Skin turns hard, temporarily increasing STA by 5, but decreasing SPD by 2 and DEX by 1.
1: Mud Poultice - Cast this spell on a bit of damp earth. The damp earth can then be applied to wounds, removing poisons and infections and speeding up healing.
2: Stoneshaping - Mold hard earth and small stones into new shapes. Results depend on DEX. Only works on small amounts of earth and stone, enough to fit in a fairy's cupped hands.
3: Sinkhole - Slip safely into any sort of earth and back out again. A bit like swimming through dirt. Easily deposit items under the ground or hide.
4: Dirt Clod - Summons up a handful of nice, black dirt.

7: Natural Barrier - Mud rises up from the ground, encasing the fairy or target in a cocoon. The barrier dries instantly, forming a hard, protective wall around the target. Can encase something up to a square foot in volume.

Air Spells (Cold, Light)

1: Purify Air - Clear toxins and harmful agents from the air.
2: Small Gust - A small gust of air, useful for sweeping small things away.
3: Advanced Flight - Improved flight spell, for fancier maneuvers and tricks.

5: Air Burst - Cast while throwing a punch. The punch connects at a distance as a burst of air, but loses strength depending on distance. If the punch actually connects, Air Burst adds +1 STR to the blow. Within an inch, it has power equal to the caster's STR. Every inch after that it loses 1 STR in strength.

8: Gale Force Wind - A strong, concentrated gust of air, capable of knocking over objects, or blowing feien from the sky!
9: Tornado - Summons a whirlwind of air about three feet high, capable of lifting objects up and throwing them randomly into the air. Hard to control.

Light Spells (Heat, Water, Air)

0: Lightvision - See easily even in the brightest, most dazzling light.
1: Illumination - Summons a small ball of light to illuminate dark places.

3: Minor Illusion - This spell can duplicate any object the size of the caster or smaller, including the caster herself. The illusion is intangible, stationary, inanimate, will not cast a shadow, and has a very weak magical signature.

5: Imbue Light - Cast on a small object to cause it to glow for a time.
6: Blind (Light) - Cause target to be unable to see for a short period of time. Doesn't work on other Light fairies.
7: Invisibility (Light) - Makes something disappear for a few minutes. Can be cast on self, others, or objects.
8: Light Energy Ray - A bolt of powerful light energy that stuns a target.
9: Major Illusion - Create an illusion of anything up to twice the caster's size which can move, casts a shadow, and has a magical signature identical to the caster's.

5: Impart Emotions - Cause another to feel happy, sad, fearful, or any other emotion the caster wishes to impart. Lasts a few minutes only. Does not work on strong emotions.
6: Free Bonding - Fairy can bond with up to three other fairies, pets, or individuals. Note that these bonds are permanent, and are not Enhanced. If taken with Non-elemental Free Bonding, increases number of free bonds to six.
7: Placate - Calm someone who is angry, upset, hysterical, or otherwise disturbed. Can be used to negate the effects of Berserk.

9: Major Recall - Touching objects or people can bring visions of specific memories. The caster must focus strongly on what they wish to know from the past. Visions can last up to a minute, but are severely draining to the caster and occasionally traumatic.

With sufficient force of mind, an unwilling target’s memories can be changed. Several small details can be changed in one go; successive attempts can change more details. Memory modifications are never perfect or absolute and can be broken by the target.

6: Greater Darkness - Turns an area of up to ten feet in radius dark, increasing the power of dark spells in the area and causing normal dark effects.
7: Poison Air - Creates a poison cloud in the air up to a foot in diameter which inhibits breathing, thinking, and sight for any feien trapped inside. This poison cloud can expand at the caster's whim, but effects lessen the larger the area the cloud occupies.

Blood Spells (Earth, Air, Water, Heat, Cold)

2: Energy Drain - This feien can drain energy from others by touch and use that energy to bolster their own reserves. Weakens the target slightly.
3: Heal - Heal cuts and bruises on the spot, and improve the condition of more serious wounds, speeding up the healing process.
4: Rend Flesh - Simply by touching another, this feien can cause skin to rupture. Much like causing small papercuts, the wounds are superficial but bloody.
5: Blood Binding - By ingesting the blood of another, the other's movements can be remotely tracked for a month. Depending on how much blood is ingested and how many times this is performed, sometimes emotions can be sensed.
6: Energy Transfer - By touching others, this feien can transfer energy from one person to another. Those who have energy taken from them are slightly weakened, whereas those who are given energy are slightly strengthened.
7: Knockout - Cause a target within one foot to faint completely.
8: Subdue - With sufficient force of mind, the caster can force another feien to do his or her bidding for a short time, ranging from one the fifteen minutes depending on the caster's practice and skill. If the subdued feien resists the action, s/he may simply freeze up and not perform it. Less effective against feien with high wisdom.
9: Regeneration - Wounds heal and energy recovers more quickly.
10: Control - With sufficient force of mind, the caster can force another feien to do his or her bidding for a short time, anywhere from half an hour to half a day depending on the caster's practice and skill. If the subdued feien resists the action, s/he may simply freeze up and not perform it, but is less likely to freeze than with Subdue. Less effective against feien with high wisdom.



Respiration Spells (Life, Air)

Fire Spells (Heat, Light)

Quote:
0: Fire Blood - High temperatures and flames do not affect this fairy.
1: Fiery Illumination - Summons a small ball of fiery light to illuminate dark places. This ball does not give off heat or burn, it merely illuminates.
2: Imbue Light - Cast on a small object to cause it to glow for a time.

3: Third-degree Burn - Hands grow hot enough to lightly burn flesh.

5: Fire Shield - A shield of flames erupts around the caster, protecting him from close-range physical attacks and water and cold spells.

7: Pyromancy - This feien can control existing fire, making it dance or erupt, withdraw or even disappear completely.
8: Combustion - Objects, even ones generally not flammable, erupt into flames on touch.

Stat-Based Spells

Strength
1-2: Weakling - Capable of lifting small pieces of paper or strands of hair at best, this feien can sap the strength of another nearby with a bit of thought.
8: Giant Strength - Gives a +2 to strength for a few seconds, enabling a fairy to perform feats of great strength.
10: Berserk - Adds a temporary +3 to strength, -1 to wisdom and intelligence. A fairy under the influence of this spell is especially dangerous in hand-to-hand combat, uncovering hidden reserves of power and doing more damage. Can only be cast on self.

Dexterity
1-2: Clumsy - This feien drops everything and trips a lot. With a bit of thought, they can cause another to temporarily be a klutz, too.
8: Mend - Joins two objects of similar material together. Simply hold them together and cast. Useful for fixing things. Can also be used for healing.
10: Form - Join two objects of any nonliving material together. Useful for creating new objects.

Stamina
1-2: Shortness of Breath - This feien can scarcely do anything without having to gasp for air, and with a bit of thought, can force others to experience the same.
8: Resist - High fortitude enables you to better withstand spells, attacks, bad weather, and any other force that might physically affect a body.
10: Regeneration - Wounds heal and energy recovers more quickly.

Wisdom
1-2: Foolhardy - This is the feien that sticks his tongue on a pole in winter. He can cause others to engage in similar acts of foolishness.
8: Enhanced Senses - You are especially perceptive and are more likely to notice things. In addition, you get a bonus spell point!
10: Advanced Knowledge - Your wisdom enables you to cast spells as if you had one more point of magic, and you get a bonus spell point!

Intelligence
1-2: Idiocy - This feien has trouble understanding things, even after it's been explained three or four times. They can cause others to experience similar symptoms with a little bit of thought.
8: Greater Casting - Your spells have greater effect.
10: Panelemental - For two spells points or one point for a 0-level spell, a fairy can learn a spell from an element connected to their own, up to magic level 5.

Charisma
1-2: Repulsive - This feien sends others running away with her lousy personality. She can also temporarily decrease the charisma of another with a bit of thought.
8: Dazzling Smile - People find it hard to resist your dazzling smile. Turn it on and watch their hearts melt. Less effective against people with high wisdom.
10: Charm - Entrance the mind of a person, animal, or fairy for a short time. Less effective against people with high wisdom or intelligence. If you try to make them do something they dislike a lot, the entrancement can break.

Speed
1-2: Slothy - This feien moves almost excruciatingly slow, and can cause the speed of others to decrease with a bit of thought.
8: Head Start - Launch suddenly forward with a burst of extra momentum and speed.
10: Flash Motion - Move so quickly it almost seems like a teleport. Heavily drains STA. Can only be cast on self.

Magic
1-2: Disrupt Magic - This fairy is so bad at magic, she can mess up other spells cast against her or in the same area. She can also lessen the boosts given by abilities.

Luck
1-2: Bad Luck - Bad things seem to happen to this feien a lot. By concentrating, this feien can direct bad luck at an enemy. Anything that can go wrong for the target usually does.
8: Good Luck - Good things are more likely to happen to this feien. The dice always seem to go his way and anything that can go right usually does.
10: Bad Luck - By concentrating, this feien can direct bad luck at an enemy. Anything that can go wrong for the target usually does.

Other:
Adrenaline Rush - STR:8 SPD:8 - Charge towards the enemy very quickly, inflicting extra damage if successful.
Quick Maneuvering - INT:8 SPD: 8 - Execute a very fast maneuver in midair or on the ground. Good for preventing collisions.
Good Luck Charm - DEX:10 LCK:8 - Craft a small charm that increases the wearer's luck. Can also be used to imbue good luck into an exsting item.
Bad Luck Charm - DEX:10 LCK:10 - Craft a charm that curses the wearer, decreasing their luck. Can also be used to imbue good luck into an exsting item.
Sustained Speed - STA: 8 SPD: 8 - This feien can run quickly, and for a long time.
Extended Spellcasting - MAG:8 STA: 10 - Spells cast by this feien will last an extra-long time, up to twice as long as their intended duration. (Does not work on abilities.)
Sustained Strength - STR: 8 STA: 10 - This feien is strong and can maintain that strength for extended periods of time.



Elemental Specialties

Dual Elemental: Every once in a while, a fairy will be born who is dual elemental. This feien can take spells at normal cost from either of their elements, and can Panelementally learn from elements connected to either element.
Multielemental: Through melding with a gemstone of a different element, a fairy can gain an additional element. This functions exactly the same as Dual Elemental, the only difference being that one is natural and the other artificially induced.
Enhanced Elemental: If a fairy merges with a gemstone of the same element, she becomes an Enhanced Elemental. She can now pick spells up to level five from linked magic circles for one spell point (and gain 0-level spells for free, though must roleplay to unlock them), and if she has Panelemental, can add spells and abilities above level 5 for two spell points and can Panelementally add spells from magic circles one more circle away than usual. For example, if she is a Life feien, she can now get Water, Air, and Heat spells, and furthermore can Panelementally add spells linked to Water, Air, and Heat. Normal Panelemental rules apply.

Finally, the secret post revealed!

We now have a new point system with the feien, to both help me give credit where its due, and give you guys some rewards! Like what, you might ask? Like gemstones and quests and immortality!

First, the points system. Every post in your diary earns you between 1-5 points. Generally, 1-3 for journal entries, 3-5 for RPs and story entries. Points reward both those who post a lot of short posts (you get one or two points per short post) and those who prefer to post fewer long posts (you get three or four points for long posts). It also rewards greatly those who write with others, with collaborative RPs getting 3-5.

You can also get bonus points for adding feien info to your front page, drawing pictures, commissioning art, really any creative venture.

You won't get points for roleplaying in the shop unless you compile it, and you won't receive credit for roleplaying in another feien's diary thread, either. Though roleplaying in diary threads is perfectly acceptable, please remember that only the diary's owner will get credit, unless you place a compiled story in you rown diary. Also note that it's extremely unlikely that you'll get more than 1 point per post when roleplaying in the thread, and that one-line responses may not earn a point at all.

There is one exception: If your feien is involved in something in another diary belonging to you and you link to that diary in your main diary, you may receive credit for posts made there. This only applies to roleplaying in your own diaries and linking it. Roleplaying in other diaries or shop threads does not count.

In short: you only get credit for those posts made by you in your own diary (or by your mules).

So that's how you earn points. Now what do you do with them? Normal points are like qualifiers, enabling you to unlock things. Please note that you do not "spend" points. Gaining an ability or a Quest Point does not deplete your point total. It's like running a marathon. Your point total is your progress, and depending on how far along you are, you have certain rewards.

  • Every 15 points unlocks a spell or ability.
  • Every 50 points gives you a Quest Point.
  • If you have more than 25 points, you can arrange to talk to Yanvir.
  • If you have more than 50 points, you can arrange to talk to Julius.




Spells, Abilities, and Stat Appeals
So long as you just continue roleplaying, stats and abilities will unlock automatically over time, one for every 15 points. Since it's proven to be too difficult for me to keep track of where to put stat points, though, you may now make an appeal at any time to have a stat upgraded or switched instead of earning a spell or ability.

To appeal, you simply need to PM me, tell me what stat you'd like increased, and provide links as proof that your feien has actually been working on this stat. If your appeal is approved, next time you're up for a spell or ability, you will instead get a stat change. PLEASE DO NOT FLOOD MY INBOX WITH APPEALS OR ASK FOR INCREASES ALL THE TIME. Limit yourself to one request at a time. After you've earned the stat upgrade you may ask for another. There's no guarantee that I'll grant consecutive changes, though.


Quest Points
Every 50 points you earn a Quest Point. What the heck is a QP you ask? Quite simply, you can use quest points to earn special items by questing! Questing involves first speaking to Julius, who will give you a task, and then writing the long, arduous journey by which you complete the task. Assuming you do it well, you'll earn a nifty item, something designed specifically for your feien. Normal item rules apply to quest items: if you switch to Sig-only, they will still appear in your feien's image, but if you switch back to RP from Sig-only, the items will disappear. You can re-quest for them, though.

OR... if you don't feel like writing a long, involved quest, you can use a quest point to buy a gemstone. Gemstones cost 20K from the shop. They're not cheap for a good reason. First, they improve your feien without you having to do any work. (Well, you have to earn the 20K, but I mean you don't have to write out a quest.) Second, they improve your feien like mad. Stat bonuses, new skills and abilities... and physical changes, too. Your feien will take on traits from the feien in the gemstone, which could mean anything, really. It's like gaining a bunch of mutations. Your feien will look really cool and unique. And did I mention much more powerful? It'd take you years of questing to end up like this.

But there are restrictions. Once a feien has melded with a gemstone, s/he cannot breed ever again. Furthermore, you can only meld with one gemstone, so pick wisely. (There will soon be an example of a melded feien.) You don't need to use the gemstone immediately, though. You can hang on to it for as long as you like. If your feien has died and you own a gemstone, you may give it to a living feien or sell it, but it will cost the feien receiving 1 QP.

And, of course, there's also the ultimate quest. The quest for immortality. Unlike item quests and gemstones, it costs two Quest Points to attempt the immortality quest, and even then you still have to work for it. A lot. These quests are different depending on the feien -- there's no one way to gain immortality. Melding with a gemstone will not prevent you from taking on the ultimate quest. (:

The immortality quest does not remove normal diary posting requirements! All immortality does is take away the natural lifespan of your feien, which is from 3-7 years, and changes it to as long as you live (or until you want your feien to die). Your feien can still die from neglect. Furthermore, you can still switch your feien to Sig-only, and the immortality will not go away.

There may be limitations on the immortality quest, but they are presently unknown...

The Schools of Magic
In addition to elemental spells, there are five schools of feien magic. These five schools were magical arts developed outside of the elemental realm, and thus are open to all feien. Of course, at the moment, all knowledge of the five schools has been lost... but perhaps some brave fairy might recover it?

Unlike elemental spells, which use MAG to calculate power, each school uses a different set of stats to calculate point values. There are fifteen spells per school, called ranks or levels. Unlike normal spells, which you pick, spells and abilities from the schools are automatic. You do not choose individual spells. The only thing you get to choose is which school to follow. A feien may only follow one school of magic. Once you have picked a school, you cannot change it, even if you switch to Sig-only. Spells and abilities must still be roleplayed to unlock and use the same 15-point system of earning.

When calculating your points for a school, half-numbers are rounded down. To request a school assignment, post in the Spell & Stat Thread. I recommend you not pursue any school in which you have less than ten ranks.

Information on the schools is NOT posted in the shop! Sign-ups are posted in the shop, and if you sign up, you will be given the "handbook" which contains the school's information and instructions on how to learn the skills of the school.

The School of Artifice
Most artifacts of great power were in fact created by skilled Artificers. Artificers are those who have learned how to weave magic into their crafts, be they carpenters or stonecarvers, weavers or jewelers.

Points: DEX + 1/2 MAG

Handbook: The Artificer Tablets; students will receive a printed copy of the translated tablets done by Julius and Emperial.

Spells:
1: Detect Binding - This feien can identify existing enchantments on an item by touching it.
2: Elemental Binding - This feien can give an object an elemental signature his or her own element.
3: Basic Binding - This feien can give an object an elemental signature of any of the basic five elements (Darkness, Light, Earth, Air, Water).
4: Advanced Binding - This feien can give an object an elemental signature of any element and can additionally bind objects to a single master.
5: Direct Activation - The enchanted object can be activated and deactivated by touch or other direct method.
6: Minor Enchant - This feien can attach to an object a spell from his arsenal up to level 5. The object must first be elementally bound.
7: Remote Activation - The enchanted object can be activated and deactivated by sound or other remote method.
8: Enchant Object - This feien can attach to an object any spell from his arsenal. The object must first be elementally bound.
9: Thought Activation - The enchanted object can be activated and deactivated by thought alone, but must be bound to the user.
10: Greater Enchant - This feien can attach to an object any spell from any element, provided he has someone who can cast the spell on the object. The object must first be elementally bound.
11: Minor Charm - Attach a +1 stat modifier to an object.
12: Minor Curse - Attach a -1 stat modifier to an object.
13: Greater Charm - Attach a +2 stat modifier to an object, or two +1 modifiers.
14: Greater Curse - Attach a -2 stat modifier to an object, or two -1 modifiers.
15: Mastercraft Item - For a cost of 1 QP (paid by the recipient), this feien can create an item worthy of a quest, with multiple modifiers/enchantments. All Mastercraft items are subject to GM approval. There is an automatic 35% chance mastercrafting will fail, and the QP is not returned.

Now that your feien is an adult, it's time to get his or her items added to the picture! There are several types of changes that can be made to your image. You may get image services no more than once a month. This once-per-month rule counts by player, not feien. So if you have four feien, you can only get one modded per month or as my time allows. As I am generally overworked already, please be patient and understadn if all this art stuff takes time.

I reserve the right to turn down applications for image mods. Rejection reasons might include insufficient detail, impossible item construction, and lack of roleplaying. THERE IS NO CHARGE TO ADD QUEST ITEMS. THEY'LL BE ADDED AUTOMATICALLY. if you have no more free image mod points, there will be a 500g base fee.

I'm currently done with all the customs and flatsale feien I'll be doing for a looong time, very possibly for good. At the moment, there is only one custom feien left to be had: the one available in my art contest. There's also a single flatsale-type (meaning predetermined) flower to be had in the contest.

Regrettably, it is necessary to bar certain individuals from the shop due to misbehavior. Blacklistable offenses include:


  • Posting in a diary without authorization. Diaries are personal things for owners and feien, and we here at the shop feel it to be an invasion of privacy. Go ahead and complain about this being a public forum. I don't care. There's a horrible feeling that emerges in the pit of one's stomach when some stranger waltzes in and goes "ooh!1 i wnat 1!"
  • Asking for a feien when there are none available earns you one week. Similarly, trying to buy an existing feien will earn you a one month ban (unless the owner is actually selling). Don't complain. We don't want to hear it.
  • Not bothering to read at least the first post. I put a lot of time and effort into writing all this info and developing the feien (several months, in fact), the least you can do is read it. Reading the posted information is the most basic requirement for owning a feien.
  • Including a dozen quotes in replies.
  • PMing me about anything on this first page earns you a week ban.
  • Retracting an order or bid earns a one month ban.

  • Repeatedly posting size-1 font messages, which are a pain in the a** to read and make it hard to police the thread. It's public anyway. What's the point in posting so tiny besides annoying folk with bad eyesight?
  • All rules may be applied retroactively.
  • Whining about how long it's taking for me to deliver or type up something will earn you a week. You can -ask- about it, just don't complain and whine and guilt me over the duration of time. >_< So ask but don't be impatient.

Additionally, lack of patience. All that was required was to wait the first blacklisting out. And finally, when I gave you the chance to make a good impression in this shop, you did just the opposite, deciding to harass feien owners instead. Permanently banned. No chance of appeal.
