Has anyone ever read a book and liked it but then saw the movie and hated it? If so, which one?

I loved the book 'Salem's Lot..but then I saw the movie, the older one mind you..I hated it.

I usually don't like a lot of books that I know of that are turned into movies, like the Harry Potter ones. Sometimes movies just can't do justice to the book, and it's sad.

So true. While I did like the Lord of the Rings movies, compared to the books... *shakes her head* Disappointing. Extremely disappointing. Unfortunately a lot of things from books get "lost in translation" when being converted into movie format.

I saw the Harry Potter movies and... ugh. Just ugh. I regretted spending that money on those tickets - I could have bought decent-sized paperback books with it.

I consider myself sort of lucky that I never read the LotR books before the movies came out. My friends told me to, but I didn't..since I KNEW I would be disappointed. I did read The Hobbit, though..about a dozen times over the years.

The Harry Potter movies..just..no. No. They disappointed me everytime I saw them, all of them I went to see in theater with people. Sure, they provided some entertainment..but the number of things that get left out or changed around bothered me. I'm not a fan of the movies at all, I nearly hate them..but I love the Weasleys in the movies, so what can I say? I have a thing for a red-headed family. The books, though..will always be higher up on my list. sweatdrop

The Shining. Even Jack Nicholson's wonderful lines, "Wendy, love of my life, soul of my heart, can't you see I'm writing?!/I] and "Heeeeere's Johnny!" can't make up for the sleep-inducement of everyone else.

I'll agree with you on that. The Shining..great book, not so great movie. Did you ever see the newer version of it that was played on television?

The Stand... wonderful book... horrible mini-series.

Dinotopia... wonderful children's story... lovely art... horrid ABC series.

Flowers for Algernon. That's like my favorite book ever... but when I saw the movie, I was just steamed that Miss Kinnian (sp?) looked like that. And the book, I think Charlie's like... 30? The guy in the movie was just... ew... sweatdrop

The movie version of "Les Miserables" was horrible - it was far more laugh-worthy than it should have been, and Eponine was left out altogether! When Marius started squishing Cosettes cheeks and spitting on her when he talked, it was the last straw - our entire class was in fits of giggles.

The book is tremendous, though. Don't read the abridged - you're only denying yourself important details!

Almost all of them. The biggest had to be Island of The Blue Dolphin. The worst book movie ever.

Harry Potter movies leave out so much important stuff. Especially the 3rd movie, it wasn't very interesting to me. The first and second were a bit corny.
